What to bring to the hospital

Recommended Posts

So I've heard before to bring like the dis-solvable gas x strips to help pass the gas test, Anything else I should be bringing? I'm hoping to be discharged the day after surgery, since I'll have to stay overnight at least the first day.

I didn't use much... Phone charger, blistex (something for chapped lips)

I didn't use most of what I brought. My PJ pants were used once my catheter was out. I agree with lip balm & a phone charger. I used my own slippers but they gave me the nonslip socks so I really didn't need them. I brought a pillow but the surgeon requires the bed to be sitting up at all times so I couldn't really use it.

What a great question!

Also, should I take like a pajama gown or pajama pants and shirt?

@@Rachel412 Okay, so, this has nothing to do with the question. But did having the catheter out hurt??

Only thing I really used was my phone and the charger. I wish I would have brought my own nonslip socks because the hospital ones were useless.

It didn't hurt, but it pushed up against my parts every time I moved so I constantly felt like I needed to pee. After they took it out it was a little sore, but I was on good pain meds and it really didn't bother me at all.

I saw that YouTube video about GasX strips also. I took a bunch to the hospital and didn't need a single one. Each of us is different.

Consider taking a light book containing your favorite inspiration. Instead of staring at your phone for hours, give yourself a break and read something else. Or maybe listen to an audio book.

Thanks for the audio book idea. I'm definitely going to do that!

I was told by a friend to bring a good moisturizer because pre-op soap gets you very itchy

I brought pj pants and very glad I did. Also brought deodorant since they wouldn't let me use it before surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
