Don't slam me for this question... I do bite back????

Please don't slam me for this question, but at 5 weeks post op, can we eat pork skins? It's meat, 0 carbs and it gets soft, eventually? I'm just wondering ... when I did low carb years ago , I kept me some pork skins. But just wondering if it's ok now.

I've never eaten them, but the concerns with foods safety-wise while advancing your diet are (generally speaking): hard/sharp edges & seeds can damage a healing incision - I don't know how hard/

  • Lmao... a vivid memory from my mother's RnY journey is picturing her throwing up into a toilet and saying 'Those damn chicharrones!' ..... be careful! I admit because of that memory I'll be scared to

  • Is he Jewish, maybe? That would do it.

I asked my doctor about pork skins hence the word skins he looked at me like I had 12 heads. His look alone told me my answer.

I don't remember when I started eating them, but I eat pork rinds all the time. They were on my list of recommended foods as an alternative to chips and crackers. The only chip I have ever really liked is tortilla chips with salsa, but I don't use them for that (I use celery). But I eat pork rinds frequently now with my hummus.

In my opinion, when your surgeon says you are cleared for all foods, then give them a try. There is no rush to experiment right now.

I still haven't had pork rinds post op. I used to eat themore as a low carb eafter, I used them for breading for fried chicken.

If you want crunch. I like the Quest chips, they melt in your mouth.

Pork rinds are a good snack if you are a choice I think. I just don't think at 5 weeks they are.

Okay thanks. I've purchased turkey jerky. I decided against pork rinds. I will try that later in my sleeved life.

I wouldn't even want to eat those just because I would be afraid of doing all this hard work just to have it gained it back. This is an opportunity to get back on track and I'm giving up everything that has to do with chips fried in oil, pork skins fried in oil, if it's not a meal with protein or on my list then I know not to bring back all those bad behaviors. I've worked to hard to undue the benefits that will come once I have my surgery.

I have to say I can't recommend Quest chips, they have a terrible aftertaste...like this dusty flavour. I do like the Kay's Naturals chips though...more tolerable, left of that powdery aftertaste.

I decided against it once @@jenn1 posted the nutrition information. I decided against it now , so I'm good. I'm very disciplined with my sleeve that's why I was trying to incorporate a snack that I thought was low carb with good protein content. I have no desire for junk food or I would have asked could I eat little Debbie snacks. I have gone through a lot to get this sleeve and I'm not that one to sabotage my efforts to become healthy and reach my goal because of a piece of pure sugar. I'm trying to see my goal by the end of March. Only 41 lbs to go. So I'm focused . I just ask questions on here to get advice from the vets due to they have been around the block once or twice.

Where can one purchase them?
