Questions before weight loss surgery. Compare procedures, get through insurance approval, prep for the pre-op diet, and find out what to expect.

Not too bad, however, I struggle with type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea. I'm wondering how my previous tummy tuck will effect me getting this surgery? Has anybody done this completely backwards like I am... ugh.. I wish I had known I could have qualified for the WLS years ago when I went through the tummy tuck...I would have done this first but because my BMI has always been borderline I had no idea I would qualify because the comorbidities.

My surgery will be happening on the 23rd as in the day before Thanksgiving so no turkey for me...lol. I was a bit nervous but then I took some time and read threw my bariatric journal, I realized just how far I have came and how last May I had thought it was going to be impossible to get where I a standing now. Last May I thought that it was going to take forever, now it seems that the time went by fast from there to here has been a whirlwind. I'm excited and I'm ready, I feel like I have been training for this surgery and that I'm in the best shape I have been in in at least five years. I'm confident that I will be successful and that I am in fantastic hands with my me…

  6. I am back in the group, my lap band was a failure. I am going to have the gastric sleeve procedure. I would like to know how you decided on your Medical Tourism Group used for procedure outside the United States. I know the procedure and the surgeon I would like to use. I am finding it difficult to determine who would be the best group to utilize for this journey. The surgeon is affiliated with more than one group, so any advise, suggestions are welcome, questions to ask, details to be aware of, criteria for travel, etc.

  8. Hi All! I'm in the process of getting sleeve, probably early spring. Have had PCP write Medical Necessity Letter, had psych eval, endoscopy, getting stress tests next week, going to 2nd NUT class tomorrow, but I am really struggling with developing a concrete diet plan--like clearly spelled out--- to follow for now. Some part of my brain says "have it all, one last time". That's not going to cut it, I'm sure. I need help please.Could anyone please share what they ate daily, including work lunches and night Snacks, that helped them get ready?? and how do I get a counter? I'm not that tech savvy

  10. Started by sleevelm,

Went to my first appointment on Tuesday. Need sleep study, nutrition visits, psych, EDG and physician visits for 6 months for Aetna approval. BMI is 49.5. Concerned about loose skin, not being able to enjoy family ethnic foods and regretting not trying again on my own. The more I read, the more confused I get. One minute I am all in the next I think it is too drastic of a surgery. Can some one please help me ease my mind? I am tired of being sick and tired and not living life.

Also i find it kinda distracting me from my goal to have this weightloss journey but at the same time it feels good that i have someone in my life who cares about me. I just dont know what to do with the whole issue at hand Anybody some advice in what to do or say? Or just plain insight what's the best thing to do with the situation at hand. T…

Hi all. My dietician now has me doing a protein drink a day whether a meal or a snack. I bought Celebrate packets of latte and cookies and cream thinking they would taste good. Yuck. The only thing I can drink without a gag is the Premier Protein which I know I really shouldn't drink. Any suggestions on great tasting drinks that are comparable in taste to Premier. Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone. I can't believe I'm posting on this board! I woke up 2 days ago and decided to have WLS. Now it's not as bad as it sounds. I've struggled with my weight for 20 years (I'll be 42 in February) I've never had any major health issues and have always looked at weight loss from the vanity side of things. But I've been steadily gaining weight and am now staying around 240. I am right on the edge of the BMI of40 for insurance to cover the surgery. But what prompted this is over the past few months I've noticedI just feel like crap, I hurt constantly, and my BP has started to creep up. I feel much much older than 41. We have 2 young children (5,4) that I can't keep…

Soooo... First time posting ... My surgeon's office (Beltline Bariatrics- ATL) submits my paperwork to insurance today for gastric sleeve approval and I've gone from being super anxious to getting sooo nervous. I'd really hoped to have the procedure prior to new years to avoid extra expenses. But at this point that would require a "smooth" and swift approval, which I realize might be wishful thinking. I've put myself on the pre-op diet 4 days ago to test my will power. Oh how it's been rough (irritable as hell!!!! ), but I'm completely committed. I can see that this is going to be far from a walk in the park... Is anyone else playing the waiting game ? PLEASE REMEMBE…

Hi all - I used to be on these boards a lot in the beginning to middle of last year, then decided to postpone my surgery until summer 2017 after my mom had to go to the hospital (and now a nursing home) this past summer and then I started nursing school (Holy stressful!). I was cowardly when I backed out of the surgery, originally to take place summer 2016 - I just canceled my final meeting with the dietitian and never notified my surgeon. I was embarrassed because I hadn't been losing weight at the clip they wanted me to and having serious second thoughts about what it would be like to be just learning how to live with the sleeve at the same time as nursing school. …

Maybe small things you won't necessarily hear from a doctor or nurse. Something maybe you brought with you to the hospital or the days after recovery that helped? Helped with energy or healing? First, let me say that I know my health and happiness come before any financial burdens I may face as a result of WLS. With that being said, the more I think about it, the costs keep adding up. My surgery will cost me approximately $2300 with my insurance. I am fine with that and the hospital takes payments. I will have enough time off of work saved by the time I have the surgery to have 3 weeks of paid time off. I should be okay there. However, I am starting to think of the costs of the Protein shakes, broths, sizing down in clothing for a year or two, etc and worry if financials became an unexpected concern for anyone post-WLS? I know my surgeon's office pro…

  40. OK some background. I am pre-op just started my 2 week liquid diet on Monday for my surgery date on December 6th. I had my preadmin testing at the hospital yesterday then I had to go to a class about the surgery. In the class, we were told to make sure our Protein powders/protein drinks after surgery contain whey isolate and not whey concentrate. Now the information I got from the nutrition classes specifically gave pictures and names of acceptable Protein Drinks. Why did they have Premier Protein on there (which is what I ended up getting) if is doesn't have whey isolate? I lost 6 pounds in the following months. So I am showing a 9 pound gain and suppose to be submitting to insurance next week. I met with my surgeon yesterday but he didn't mention the gain or that it was an issue. He told me in the beginning of program that insurance only looks at starting number. He also has to perform surgery on a severe incisional hernia at the same time. So I'll need surgery no matter what. I met with my nutritionist today ( last appt of 4) and she seems to be concerned…
