I'm not sure where else to go to ask this because my insurance doesn't give me clear, straight answers (I have UPMC For Life Dual) they said "We don't have access to that information but your doctor does." So I called them and they told me they didn't know, call my insurance. The question is while you're on the 6 month program and say your BMI gets down to 30-35, can you still get Gastric Bypass? What do they go by? Your current weight at the end of the program or your starting weight? How do they determine that? I'm sorry if this was asked somewhere else before or if this is in the wrong forum... Feel free to correct me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPa…

6 days till I start my pre-Op Diet. Surgery is Dec. 19th... My question is... I have severe IBS, I would say my stomach hurts 70% of the time. There is no one things that sets it off. Does anyone else have IBS? If so, how did you do after surgery? My neurologist said that the sleeve would not correct the IBS but it would decrease the discomfort tremendously! However, I have not been able to find any information on-line to back up his statement. It does make sense, changing your diet and decreasing food intake. Dana

Just in the first week of my pre-op diet I have lost 16lbs. and my fasting BS has gone from 119 (pre-diabetic) to 89 (normal). I am stoked!! The fatigue, dizziness, and diarrhea stopped around day 4 and I am just enjoying feeling so well. I kept away from everyone on Thanksgiving so that I wouldn't be tempted. Since I'm a widow and my kids are grown and out of the house, I'm sure it's been easier for me than for those of you who have to cook for your families. I gained 90% of this weight over the last 7 years since my husband was killed by a drunk driver. I've always struggled to keep weight off but when I lost him I went into such a horrible depression that all I did was…

Consult weight 237.6 Surgery date weight 229.2 Home and feeling pretty good. First day after surgery I was not able to walk as I was so loaded up on meds. 2nd day had severe back pain but walked 6 times that day and was doing much better. I did have major issues with high blood pressure even in recovery room. My bp was 220 over 105 so they kept me in recovery longer. Then next 2 days in hospital room my BP kept sky rocketing. I was able to come home but I have 24 hour care till post op on the 11th to keep an eye on my bp. Even with all that I say this is the best thing I have done for my health. Feeling well, walking, stretches and liquids. Definitely make sure you get…

Hi there! I've tried researching this on my own and I can't seem to find much. My insurance (Anthem BCBS) will only cover in-network providers at one of their approved centers, and since there are none in my state I'll be traveling about 8 hours each way. My employer doesn't accept doctor's notes, and everything would have to be FMLA approved. Should those doctor's visits be covered since I have to travel for them...? I've been doing some research and I've heard people recommending these strips for the gas pain. I know walking is the key but has anyone tried these? I plan on walking but if these help also it would be good. I'm on board for Monday the 14th. I have to be at the hospital at 5 AM! Spending the weekend getting everything in order. I will be on full liquids when I get home for the first week. Then puréed stage for the second week, soft foods for weeks two and three. I'm so excited for this new journey in my life. I'm telling you I'm so tired of hearing this and if I had a dollar for every time a person says this to me I would be rich! Anyway as usual I didn't reply to the ignorant statement but in my head I just wondered what will people say about me once the weight is gone? I have a pretty low bmi and weigh about 210. Hoping all of this pre hard work is worth it. I admit I'm concerned about not losing the 50-60 lbs I'm hoping for because I don't want to lose much more than that. Generally, those with more to lose easily lose after surgery. I'm just concerned that the weight that needs to fall me will happen quickly and not over an extended period of time. Last year I started the process of going for the gastric sleeve but then found out I was pregnant last Halloween and had my 3rd child, a baby girl, July 5, 2016. I go this Friday December 1st for my introduction meeting. I'm excited because I'm finally going to finalize the process and also because I have new insurance through my husband's job and found out that they do cover the surgery and that I won't have to pay much out of pocket. How long has it taken everyone to do the process?

My surgery is approved and I am scheduled for November 22nd! I couldn't be happier! I thought I would share the news and my steps that it took to get here. While I only signed up on Bariatric Pal recently, I have read along to many of your stories since May. It's nice to hear the steps to the process and I know it helped me so here goes my process so far . My journey started on May 25th, my file was submitted to insurance on October 31st, I was approved by Cigna on November 4th, and my surgery is now scheduled for November 22nd. May 25th=Attended seminar, heard from the surgeon, and learned about the different types of bariatric surgery. June=Had my first appo…

JessDen I'm hoping to have the surgery in the 2017 calendar year, the only thing I'm worried about is a past surgery that I've had. When I was 16 I had some of my colon removed due to colon polyps. I now have what's left of my intentines ran to my rectum so I don't have to wear a colostomy bag. I worried a dr won't give me the surgery due to this. Does anyone know or heard of anyone that has had a similar concern? Thank you!

Apparently I'm dealing with my anxiety about surgery (12/19) by stocking up on Protein powders to be prepared. I'm nervous that the two I like right now I won't like after (and one is a pea protein so I'm only supposed to drink 1/day). Is (or did) anyone else feel like they might be overpreparing like this??

Hi all! Scheduled for 12/13. When I first scheduled all of my appointments 6-7 months ago, the bariatric coordinator at my doctors said that I could do a 12/13 surgery being that my last nutritionist appt is 12/1. Now I'm really worried my insurance won't approve on time being that its only 12 days.. I have Affinity if that makes any difference. Here is why I'm concerned: 1. I'm a student in a really competitive program and work part time, intern full time and school full time. So this is like a 2 week break where I can have my surgery and recover, and I really needed to use this time. 2. My surgeon is leaving days after my surgery to vacation for a whole mon…

I'm curious if anyone has any insight. I'm on a pre-op diet (High Protein, low-carb) that has been very successful up til now. My SW was 398 and I'm down around 360 now. I've been vacillating between 360 and 362 for a couple of weeks. My surgery is in two weeks, and my goal weight for surgery was 375 so I'm not terribly worried about regaining that much in two weeks if I keep with the diet. The problem is I've hit a stall for the last two weeks and I can't seem to break past 360. I've increased my exercise and my Water intake is solid. I'm pretty much doing the same thing I did to lose the first 38 pounds, but the stall is lasting a while. This may be a non-issue with…

It looks like everyone is on a liquid diet for pre-op? Is your liquid diet low carb? My Dr prescribed a low carb (solid food) diet - 30grams of carbs per day. Surgery is on December 1st and I've been on PreOp diet for a week and lost an incredible 12.5lbs in that amount of time. I'm wondering if anyone else is doing the same thing? I assume this next week won't be as much weight loss? TIA -kelly

I am on day 7 of my 2 week pre-op diet, I did well the first three days of the diet, then I did extremely bad for three days while I was extremely busy and stressed out and I admit I just completely threw the diet out the window for those three days, I was supposed to be on all liquids, and I did more than just eat solid foods, I ate fast food for most of those three days, now I feel awful about it and I feel like I have sabotaged my surgery, I don't know what I can do other than be good for the rest of the diet because if I postpone the surgery then it probably won't be in the month of December and then my insurance is changing so I would have to go through approval all …
