Surgery scheduled for Nov. 22nd! Steps and timeline that it took for me to get here...

My surgery is approved and I am scheduled for November 22nd! I couldn't be happier!

I thought I would share the news and my steps that it took to get here. While I only signed up on Bariatric Pal recently, I have read along to many of your stories since May. It's nice to hear the steps to the process and I know it helped me so here goes my process so far :).

My journey started on May 25th, my file was submitted to insurance on October 31st, I was approved by Cigna on November 4th, and my surgery is now scheduled for November 22nd.

May 25th=Attended seminar, heard from the surgeon, and learned about the different types of bariatric surgery.

June=Had my first appointment with the surgeon where we discussed my background, family history, and what type of surgery I was interested in.

August 3rd=Psychologist visit where we discussed what type of support I have for the surgery, my background, and my feelings towards the surgery.

August 3rd, September 2nd, & October 7th=Monthly dietitian visits. We would go over my food log for the month, any questions that I might have had, and discuss my progress.

July, August, September, October=Monthly appointments with my primary doctor where we discussed what I am doing to lose weight.

November 11th=Pre-surgery testing including an upper GI test, chest x-rays, EKG, and blood work.

November 11th=Pre-surgery dietitian visit where we discussed what I will be eating post-surgery.

My surgery is also November 22. Just wondering how all of you are doing? Any nerves? I am unusually calm, though I'm sure I will be a ball of nerves the day of.

Clear liquids only afternoon tomorrow, that's going to be rough. Probably should go to be early!

My day is the 22nd also! It is finally here There are days I wondered if it would ever here. My Dr. had me on 2 Protein shakes and a small meal (3 oz meat and sm serving low carb veggies) for last two weeks. Today I am restricted to clear liquids only. Glad I didn't have 2 weeks of clear liquids! Today is also bowel cleanse. Joy!

Wishing you all the very best! Will lift you up in prayer. I am excited to have this opportunity to have this surgery, gaining a tool to once and for all reduce my weight to a healthy level, be active and live a full life. And yes, I'm nervous too. food, has been my "go to " activity when I have been stressed, sad, tired, etc. I have done well over the past 5 months. With this tool, I plan to permanently alter my coping mechanisms to meet my real needs, not just stuff them down with food.

Just being honest. Praying for health and happiness for each of you!

Congrats to all of you having surgery along with me tomorrow (and any other day)!! :D

How's everyone? I'm waiting on a prescription and then will be in my own bed. Agony.

I'm doing ok, pain meds are working but make me itchy. Rumbling in the tummy and very sore but manageable. I've had some unexpected crying, sometimes for no reason.

Overall it's not too bad but then again this is only my first day at home. How about you?

I'm good other than having a cough. It feels like my insides are going to explode out whenever I do. Pain meds really aren't working much, which sucks, but that's how my body is.

I, um, fell out of my chair because I was sitting too far forward. Don't do this. Getting up off the floor was ridiculous.

ISalithe, I hope you were not hurt. It did make me giggle though because that sounds like something I would do, especially on pain meds!

I had a giggle too once I knew I was okay. I was extra sore for a couple hours, but everything seems good now. Falling is super scary now, even that tiny distance.

I am not doing well since my November 22nd sleeve. I was in the hospital four days and had complications. The surgeon put my sleeve too tight which was determined during my GI test the day after surgery. Liquid enters my stomach but takes a long time to exit and at a very small stream. I was told another surgery was an option or holding it out and wait for swelling to go down which could help.

While in the hospital I had maybe 3 ounces of apple juice each day which was forced. I'm home now without any pain medication and it is a struggle. I'll be on clear liquids at least two weeks. I'd estimate that I'm driving maybe 10 ounces of liquid per day for the last 48 hours. I'm really getting concerned for when I will be able to drink more. It's hard to take in anything at this point because the stomach flips are so bad.

My SW was 300.1, day of surgery 286.4, and today I am 274.2. I'm very surprised to be down 12.2 pounds since surgery Tuesday. I was told in the hospital to not be surprised if I go home and get on the scale to gain ten pounds. I know I haven't been eating but they gave me a lot more iv fluids because of my tight sleeve.

That's my update as of now. Definitely a struggle and taking it day by day!
