Everything went really well. I ended up not having any drains! That made me happy. I had a rough time coming out of anesthesia, but once I did I was up and moving and didn't stop. I thought I would be in the hospital for 2 or 3 days, but I came home the next day. The gas pain wasn't fun, but I got through it no problem. So now what I'm wondering is how do I sip and not take in air. I have been trying, but I always end up burping every time I drink. I'm not worried about loosing weight. I'm mostly curious to see how quickly it's going to come off.

Finally got my surgery date - 5 September. I'm so excited!

Hey everyone: i am in the very early stages of my weight loss journey and I have been referred to a surgeon. What I'm afraid of though is my weight is 437lbs, with a BMI of 65. From the research I've done, it looks like I would need to lose a significant amount of weight before they would even do surgery. Is this accurate? Was anyone at this BMI prior to surgery?

Hi everyone. I had my modified duodenal switch (SIPS) with Dr. Mitchell Roslin at Lenox Hill on Monday. Pretty routine except bad nausea reaction to the anesthesia which led to vomiting (NOT fun after stomach surgery let me tell you!) I'm back at home now but still in a bit of pain - it's changed from being mostly trapped air to general achiness and stabbing if I move too quickly or adjust positions. Trying to walk as much as possible (made easier by the fact that I have a young retriever mix named Moses who loves his walks!) Having some trouble eating/drinking my liquids (sticking to broths, sugar free popsicles, and Atkins protein shakes.) Basically no appetite and eati…

Hi Everyone. I'm CJ and I'm new here and thought I'd introduce myself. I am scheduled to have a SIPS modified DS on September 14th. I've been lurking, trying to decide which forum I liked best. I finally decided to join here, because people on this site seem warm and friendly, without judgment. I see lots of support, without too much advice giving (except when asked). A few forums I looked at seemed to have some very dominant personalities that were very anti SIPS which kind of scared me off. I'm excited and nervous about this new phase of my life. Today, I had my pre-surgical Upper GI series...gotta love that barium. The radiologist promised me he'd have som…

Tomorrow is my surgery day, and I am super nervous. Not really sure why, I have had surgery before. I think most of it is because I remember what the gas pain is like. I had my galbladder out and it was the one thing about pain that really stands out to me. I am also concerned about what life will be like after surgery. I of course want to make the change or I wouldn't be doing it, but regardless of that life will now be completely different. I am very much looking forward to feeling better. I already do just being on the liquid diet. I am also looking forward to being able to do things that are very difficult for me right now. Like hiking, sight seeing, traveling, just l…

So I am on day 3 of my liquid diet. My surgeon said that I might need a stool softener for constipation, but I am having the other spectrum. It's loose and several times a day. Is this normal, or should I worry about IBS. I know that sounds crazy, but my surgeon said that if I have IBS that my trips to the bathroom after the surgery would be very frequent. I have never had a diagnosis, but have had issues with loose stools when I don't eat right. I am just a few days out and letting my mind play with me a little. Thanks!

Hey guys, so I have been overweight ever since I can remember, I barely heared last year of the existence of all these surgeries that can change morbid obesity patients.. I went to a weight loss doctor in Texas and begun my procedure and had to quit half ways.. due to financial stress. it's so frustrating being this way, I'm facing so much depression due to my weight I feel like a human mistake sometimes, I have no money nor good credit to get my surgery, I definitely do not want to post a gofundme page in my Facebook page to have everyone make fun of me... I do not feel good about myself , dieting and excersizing has lead me to loose 10 pounds all year it's ridiculous ho…

Hi Everyone, I am new and enjoying what I am seeing so far. It has been awhile since I have been involved in a forum. It is nice to be part of another one. I also have my surgery date scheduled, it is Aug. 18th. So close, and I know it is going to go by very fast. I also know that being nervous is part of this. I am more nervous about after the surgery, then the surgery itself. I am not worried about the pain or how long it takes to recover. I am more concerned about what it is going to be like after the surgery. I have read what to expect, what can happen, and what will likely happen. I have also read many people talking about their experience and I have to say so…

Just curious how people are holding up to this....I do not drink soda often at all. Honestly maybe 1 time a month or if I get sick I would have a sprite to settle my tummy. Now that I am not allowed to have it seems more tempting. Just wondering what others did to satisfy that need. Honestly I would rather have a club soda with lime....yum. I am sad to give up sparkling water...I drink Propel to switch it up. But I am open to other ideas, PLEASE!

Buh bye band, hello SIPS! Arrived at hospital at 5am, surgery started at 715a... was up and walking by noon. Had my cat scan and swallow test by 3, discharged by 530p and home a little after 6.... I'm super nauseated and sore but dealing ok. Now laying down in bed. I don't like this weird pulling feeling in my tummy and I am having a heck of a time completely emptying my bladder (thanks to the catheter) but I'm managing. BAND out SIPS DS in, one operation. I'm ready to get this journey on the road! Woohoo!!

I had the sleeve about 8 years ago. I have gained most of my weight back now so I was thinking about finishing off my VSG with the DS now. To me it seems logical: Since I have already had a sleeve I am already half way there so why not just finish it off with a DS? Unfortunately, the surgeon that did my sleeve got killed in a plane crash about 3 years ago so now I am looking for a new surgeon. I have contacted a few places to see what there cost would be and whatnot so I can decide. When I contacted one of the places they tried to talk me out of it telling me that the DS is a very extreme procedure and it is performed only as a very last resort. They told me that u…

Hello all, I had DS surgery 6/10/17 and am having a heck of a time consuming enough protein. I’m to the point that protein shakes make me gag but I force at least one down a day. Does anyone have a sample menu to get all required protein in without going crazy over the calorie/carbohydrate/sugar/fat limitations? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What am I doing wrong or missing I have done pro biotics and watch my simple carbs nit even coffee if I lay on my side will sound like a tiger in my stomach.

As much as I've prepared myself today in going into my first appointment to meet my surgeon, dietician, nurse practitioner, and psychologist, I still was thrown. I kept telling myself to keep an open mind, knowing the doctor may want a different surgery from what I had my mind set on. I thought I was completely open minded and prepared for whatever happened. I wanted a sleeve and both he, and his nurse practitioner, felt I should have the DS surgery done. It was like he wanted me to say 'Yes, I agree to the ds.' When, in actuality, he's doing the sleeve first, and in six months to a year, the second part. So why are they trying so hard for me to accept this instead of s…

I'm post-op day 4. Twice in the hospital they had to give me intravenous dextrose because my sugar was in the 60's. I didn't have symptoms, they found it on routine blood sugar checks. The doc thought it would even out once I got off the clear liquid diet and started having my protein shakes. Today I got dizzy and shaky, checked my sugar, and it was low again. I don't really have anything with sugar in the house, so I mixed protein powder and a teaspoon of sugar into some unsweet applesauce to get it back up. Now I'm just sipping protein shakes continuously because I'm on full liquids for 2 weeks post surgery. I'm going to call the office tomorrow to let them know it…

Phew! What a week it's been! I got notification of a work investigation on me last Thursday, and had to sweat it out without pay until Tuesday, when I was notified that I was fired. (It's a long story, but it wasn't anything bad or shady on my part - more like a technicality.) I was so dejected, thinking I'd lose my surgery, which was scheduled for August 15, since my insurance ends July 31. Well, I called my surgical center and they worked hard for me and now I have my surgery on WEDNESDAY! This Wednesday! Ahhhhhh!!! I was supposed to be on a 2-week pre-op diet, but now it's going to be 4 days. I have to get all my last appointments done in the next few days instead of …

I'm almost finished with my requirements for my surgery center, and I have an appointment Monday so I will also ask then, but the nutritionist said that after surgery you can only take dissolvable Vitamins, no pills at all for (I think) a couple months while you heal. But what about current meds like thyroid supplements and blood pressure pills? Do they make an exception for that, or do you have to get prescriptions for some type of liquid replacement? Thanks for sharing your experience!

I am Pre Op and surgery was approved and set for August 17, 2017. My surgeon highly recommends the Single DS for my case. I have not been able to find hardly anything online. Can someone give me some information based on your own experience. I completely trust my surgeon but just want to know a bit more. Thanks....

I'm scheduled to have surgery April 19! I'm so excited yet so extremely nervous about the after! The doctor made it sound like I'd be ok ( I've had 2 c sections) but the dietitian made it sound like I'd be in hell ( excuse the language) !! I'm active now and have a pretty high pain tolerance. But I'm just super nervous about the following week to month after surgery . I joined a few FB support groups but they have done nothing but scare me even more! Any advise or comments about after surgery?

Hey guys! My name is Robert, today I just saw Dr. Jawad at ORMC, in Orlando, Florida. At today's appointment, we discussed three possible procedures. I currently weigh 430 pounds, and he decided that the best operation for me, would be a duodenal switch! I'm super nervous about the operation, but I can see nothing but the results, and amazing responses about the operation! I absolutely love this community that I have found, do you guys have been absolutely amazing with your support! Any tips or feedback about the surgery that you can give me I would love to have! Thank you so much!

I was banded several years & knew what me "full" feeling was (tightening in the chest). I know I'm 7 days PreOp of the revision to DS. So, my neighbor brought me some beef stew "juice". I had my 2 oz cup worth. But I feel kinda bloated. Guess I'm not familiar with new signs from my body.

I recently tried watermelon, and did it on 3 occasions. Each time, I thought I was going to get sick and had to lie in an easy chair for a couple of hours until the nausea subsided. lso, I got the same feeling from eating raw fish (sashimi) , but for the first time since sleeved 7 months ago, I was able to put down some Hawaiian poke tuna with no side effects. Anybody have similar food problems?

I am really having a tough time making this decision, and I could really use some advice maybe from some vets or people that started out with a lower BMI (like 32). I would really appreciate any input you can offer! Thanks so much! I was sleeved in Mexico in Dec 2014 with a bmi of about 32, at 5'3" and 182 pounds. I thought I had found the miracle cure! I Lost about 30 pounds (out of the 50 that I wanted to lose) in the first four moths, and had to work hard for about another year to keep it off. Then I tore my meniscus in June of 2016, and was unable to do my walks/hikes, and have since put back on 15 of the original 30 that I lost. So probably not really worth it f…

I had the duodenal switch on Monday, June 19th. Yesterday June 23rd, I fixed a smoothie and added several strawberries and 1/2 of a banana. Clueless that I wasnt supposed to add fruits in. I know...dumb....my husband is post op on hos sleeve surgery by several months and I had been watching him. What should I do. Im going to stay to the guidelines strictly now that I aware more clearly of what I should be doing. I probably only drank 4-6 oz total with the fruit. Feeling really dumb. I wasnt trying to be reckless.

Hey all! How do you and your doctors pronounce 'duodenal'? My surgeon says 'doo-uh-DEE-null," so that's what I say, but I hear a ton of people at my other appointments say 'doo-wODD-null.' Just wondering what the majority is! :-)

This whole process has not been scary at all, except the thought of not being able to eat for an entire week. I am mortified that I will fail and will have my surgery postponed. How did y'all cope and get through that week on the liquids? I am such a creature of habit and probably a bit OCD. SO when things get out of order, I get nervous. Any tips, tricks or things to help me focus are appreciated. Thanks!

I am starting to buy my supplements and I was curious if anyone bought their stuff exclusively through Bariatric Pal store and if they have tried GENEPRO Medical Grade Unflavored 30g Protein Powder - 2nd Generation. I am kinda overwhelmed as to what to purchase- also if any women can offer insight to the soft chews (as far as good flavor) I was going to buy the three pack- but then put it back and just stuck with berry. Any information is welcome! TIA!

Hey there! I'm currently pre-op for the DS. When I went into my first consult I was dead set on getting the VSG, but after learning about each, I'm leaning more towards the DS. I'm 24 and weigh 308 pounds with a BMI of about 46.7. Anyone out there have the DS at a younger age and had success? I haven't found many and am interested to hear some success stories! Heck! Anyone who's had the DS feel free to post your stats! For example: start weight, current weight, surgery date, protein used, etc anything you think would be helpful!

I am sooo super stoked- I have only told a very select few that I have this up and coming. One of which was my boss, I was wondering if any of you have experienced questions from co workers or anything like that and how you approached it. I am not by any means hiding anything, I just want to wait until after the procedure is completed before I let the cat out of the bag so to speak. I am already super emotional, just because this has been a long process for me. (found a doctor I like a year ago and he was NOT COE approved-so I had to find another doctor) Any advice is welcome, I am just more or less trying to be positive and not let my worry overwhelm me. TIA
