DS Youngster

Hey there! I'm currently pre-op for the DS. When I went into my first consult I was dead set on getting the VSG, but after learning about each, I'm leaning more towards the DS. I'm 24 and weigh 308 pounds with a BMI of about 46.7. Anyone out there have the DS at a younger age and had success? I haven't found many and am interested to hear some success stories!

Heck! Anyone who's had the DS feel free to post your stats! For example: start weight, current weight, surgery date, protein used, etc anything you think would be helpful! :)

I think it's amazing that you are trying to take control over your health! I had vsg & I was 25 and 235 pds with bmi of 48 and I am now down 41 pds in 8 weeks! Gl to you!

The DS is usually used on those with a BMI of 50+.

Personally I would be very concerned about the lifetime malabsorption. You have 60+ years ahead of you in which you'll need to pay utmost attention to your nutrition Every. Single. Day.

The sleeve is much more forgiving. And the sleeve leaves room for conversion later if something isn't right.

Your BMI is about the same as mine, and I've been having good luck so far. (8 weeks out)

Good luck!

I am 23 and had a bmi of 47 at surgery date, and I had a sleeve. I've been doing very well on it (bmi is 38 now!) and it was only a little over 3 months ago. I didn't think DS was appropriate due to the malabsorption part either! But it's up to you :)

I was 23 when I had my DS, but I weighed around 650 lbs. I am now a few months shy of 8 years post-op. There's an AMAZING DS group on FB if you're interested in me adding you. I've seen about 65lbs of regain, but that still puts me at maintaining over 70% EWL.

Hello My name is Jackie,

I had my surgery on May 22, 2017. My first week I question myself, what have I done? I am feeling much better now,

I have lost 24 pounds and feeling better. I am starting to wear some of my old to little outfits.

The only problem I am having now is constipation, does anyone else have this problem that had the DS?
