My paperwork has finally been sent to insurance for approval. I have worked so hard to make sure I got everything exactly how the insurance company and surgeons office requested. I'm so anxious waiting, I want an answer so I can get a date! I could use any good thoughts and positive vibes you can spare that I get approved and don't have to wait long to find out!

This is my first post. i am 11 days out and down 21 lbs. since surgery. Very happy about that. Overall I would say I feel good, but I do not have much ptience with myself. At my post-op visit I had to be reminded that Not only did I have an extensive bariatric surgery, but I also had an extrnsive hernia repair. So I need to give myself a break. My biggest issue is the drain. Hopefully it will be removed in 3 days.

  3. I had a gastric sleeve two years ago and am hoping to have a Duodenal switch next month. My confusion is the various different options Traditional DS Loop DS SADI What are the differences? What are the pros and cons for each? Can anyone direct me to a website to find this out as I am just confused many thanks davina

  4. How did you decide on which surgery to have? The VSG seems to be the most popular and pushed surgery through my research. I'm 49 BMI and can't seem to loose weight on any diet or exercise program since my hysterectomy 5 years ago. I am concerned that the sleeve will not be enough and know that I could convert to DS later but I don't want to waste anymore time trying something that may not work. I know this is a conversation best with my doctor but I don't want to be pushed into a sleeve if it's not going to be effective. I'll be self pay in Mexico.

  5. Hey all... I have been struggling the past 6 months. I am only 1 year post op so that is kind of sad that I have struggled 1/2 of the time, and have only lost about 15 lbs in the past 6 months. Overall I am down almost 120 (1lb away!), so I can celebrate that success, but I have hit a major plateau and nothing I seem to do will get me past that 195 mark. I only have between 30-40 left to go!! I know I need to get my exercise into a higher gear. My main concern is what should my macros be at 1 year post op. Anyone at my point continuously still losing a good amount of weight, what does your typical day of eating look like? I am still not sure if I should be focusing…

  6. Hello, This is my first post here. I am one week out from my DS surgery. I'm really surprised at how I'm feeling. I'm so disconnected and sad and irritable all at the same time! All I keep thinking is "What have I done to myself???" I had LapBand surgery in 2007 and never felt this depression. Is this normal? I just want to be my happy, positive self again. Thanks in advance for any replies. I'm feeling so lost right now.

Hi there - Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm someone very early in the process (just had my first consult with my surgeon yesterday) but I wanted to start being active in the forums now so that I can learn from you all and not make too many newbie mistakes. I look forward to talking to you and learning from you in the days ahead.

Sorry long post.. lol I started my journey in Jan 2017. I went in for another unfill for my lapband that I've had for 8 years! They asked me if I had considered a revision. I have- but ins didn't cover Bariatric surgeries previously. So- I never checked into it again. They checked for me, and it was covered!!!! Of course, I would have to go through all steps.. so I started my 3 month monitored diet & exercise. Plus psych eval. Then my stuff was submitted in late April. I was busy with work- so I didn't have time to realize how much time has went by. Then realized it's been almost a month. I almost was starting to get frustrated I called ins & they said they haven'…

  9. Started by Short N Sweet,

First off, I am excited and nervous that its happening, I mean where did the time go? I am trying to pack everything I would need and leave the things I won't. My biggest worry is getting my water in and soreness. I have to be at the hospital by 730 am and my surgery is suppose to start at 930 am. I already had my gallbladder taken out but this feels like its on a whole other level. I just can't wait to see how this is going to change my life for the better!

  10. I am scheduled to have surgery on May 31, and my husband broke his foot today, the heel bone. He may have to have surgery as soon as the end of this coming week, so I'm not sure yet but I may have to postpone my surgery. I feel so sorry for him, he even feels so bad about it that he keeps apologizing to me for his foot being broken, and it's not his fault. I would never let him know that I'm crying inside at the thought of having to wait after all my hard work to get to this point, I just said we'll figure it out, no big deal. He is looking at being non-weight bearing on the broken foot for maybe two months with or without surgery. We see the orthopedic surgeon on Monday …

  11. Hi all, I am still planning to have surgery, maybe in a few months (cash pay, trying to save my pennies!). I have looked under the "file" for vitamin suggestions, etc. but don't see anything that answers my questions. I hope that I am not violating any rules here, but... My question has to do with the vits and supps that I am already taking. I usually order 90 days worth at a time. I am running out of some things, but I don't want to waste money and reorder something that I can't use after the surgery. Could you please review what I am taking now, and comment on what you think...and what I will not be able to/need take after DS surgery? I am having my surgery in Mex…

So I'm 9 days post op and I feel great. I've been walking and sipping as much as I can. The protein doesn't go down as fast as water but I'm getting there. Had my first visit with my surgeon today and I have lost a whopping 17 pounds. I'm so happy for myself I'm telling everyone I know like look at me! Lol! Although, I don't see where it's coming from, but I do feel it in my clothes. On another note to those who are about to start this journey and looking to this site for any clue of what's next to come. Be patient, and always remember everyone is different. As I was looking into this site trying to gather information about what's it supposed to be like post op and I fou…

  13. Hi everyone, I'm new here. I am approaching 8 years post-op (July) and am looking to maybe meet some people who are as far out as I am, or who are experiencing weight gain with the DS. I've started "back to basics" by eating smaller portions and watching my carbohydrate intake. If anyone has any similar experiences, I would love your input. HW: 650+ SW: 636 LW: 213 CW: 278

  14. Hey y'all! I have my pre-op upcoming and I am really nervous, has anyone ever gotten to pre-op and been approved by insurance and your doctor and then told oh no we cannot do the surgery? Or maybe if there is a hiccup what can I expect? I guess the unknown is scaring me/consuming me. I am very excited but I feel like I am not prepared and I need to know what can I expect worst case. Any and all advice is welcome! TIA!

Hi! First post here. Next Thursday will be exactly 4 mos from my DS surgery date. Since that date I have lost 46 pounds from my SW of 261.4. While that is more than I have been able to do on my own, I feel like I am not losing at the same percentage/rate that many WLS patients who are members on my surgeon's face book page--and they had surgeries that typically lose less than DS! (shoutout I the other Rex in Raleigh patients, woot woot). Some had their surgery around my date and weighed very close to me and already have busted the 100 club wide open. I'm exceedingly happy for them, but it makes me feel like my surgery is not as successful and fuels the fear that I will st…

Hi. I just got a prescription for CBD, cannabis. I tried an alcohol based tincture, and "ganja glycerin". My main malfunction is pain, then insomnia. I don't think I'm feeling the CBD at all. Is it an absobtion issue? Anyone tried it? You can PM me. Supposedly under the tongue it absobes, entering the blood, affecting faster than inhillation. Of course higher CBD is less THC, so I obviously didn't feel high, but I am not out of pain or soo sleepy, either. Drinking alcohol since my surgery hits hard and fast, and then leaves fast. I don't know I thought I'd at least be sleepy.

  20. Hey y'all. Now that I have a date, this is real and I'm stupidly beginning to second guess myself. I know this is dumb behavior, but I kind of just need to ask this in the hopes that I'm not alone and someone else can quell my nerves. I've mentioned on here before that I'm in perfect health - just 130lbs overweight! Right now, I'm healthy. I'm not on medication, I'm normally active (I currently have a broken foot so I'm less active right now unfortunately), my blood pressure and cholesterol, are normal, I'm not a diabetic, etc. So I guess the question is - are there any other people on here, pre or post op who got the DS when they were still heal…

  22. Hi everyone! I had sleeve surgery in May 2013. Initially I lost about 140lbs, but then about a year and half post op I got pregnant. I gained some weight during and after pregnancy, and then lost some weight as well, and now I'm having a complication of some esophageal issues where I'm not able to swallow correctly. I have an appointment with a really great surgeon at an exceptional hospital in the Chicago area. I will have my first visit with them in April. I was hospitalized in January for Fluid build up and severe infection of my right lung. This was caused by aspirating food and fluid due to my esophageal problem. They did an esophogram and upper GI while …

  28. I just started the process of looking to get DS Surgery in Mexico. I know there are a lot of different organizations that can coordinate this process for you, the one I filled out the Health form for is Tijuana Bariatrics, using Dr. Fernando Garcia at Hospital CER. I got a response that I have been cleared for surgery. I am an RNY Gastric Bypass member (10 years out) and want to do a revision to the DS (I gained all the weight back in the last 3-4 years). When I first submitted my form, their response was they wanted to "revise" my gastric bypass because they don't recommend the DS because of gas issues? Has anyone else heard of this? I want the surgery, but only if …

  29. I want to hear from you! I'm going through with a modified, less extreme version of the DS! I've done my homework, grilled my doctor and his nurse for multiple hours and I'm prepared for this 100%. I have no fear of committing to Vitamins, diet or anything else. Still, I'm dying to learn from personal accounts. So DS post-op people...what important things did you learn that you wish someone had warned you about beforehand?

I have been trying to stay away from sweets since starting this journey, and for the most part, I have done pretty good. But sometimes those hormonal cravings kick in and watch out, I NEED chocolate or I'm cranky and feeling deprived. I found a very satisfying way to have a treat for not a lot of calories or sugar. I got the nestle sugar free hot cocoa mix (50 calories), which by itself doesn't taste all that great, but adding 2 tsps of unsweet cocoa to it makes it rich and chocolatey and only adds 13 more calories! Hope if someone is struggling with cravings this might help. BTW, I'm pre-op and currently on a 1600 calorie diet, but I bet some unsweet cocoa can also…

Hi everyone! I'm struggling a ton with head hunger. I'm almost four weeks post op, and still staying within my prescribed food list, but I find myself constantly thinking about food. Is it normal for DSers to be hungry this early post op, or is it head hunger? If it's head hunger, what do you guys do to combat it?

  34. Hello all! I'm Sarah, age 30, from northern Illinois, and it looks like I will be getting the DS this late summer! That is my track so far. One of my good friends got the sleeve last summer, and then summer activities were harder than ever for me, so I said enough is enough and went to her support group with her this January. I was inspired to get a referral from my PCP and now here I am, on the path to surgery! I went in asking for RNY, but the surgeon - one of the best in the region, I understand - suggested the switch for me, thinking I am a great candidate for it, and could have great success. He thinks I can do 100 lbs. in 3-4 months post-op!…

Last week I spoke with my Surgeon. I'm scheduled for March 14. He asked if I wanted the sleeve or sleeve plus. I asked what is the difference? He explained that the plus was quicker weight loss with better long term results. Of course I immediately said the plus. It was thru my insurance company that I found out plus was the duodenal switch. Not many surgeons do this. Can anyone tell me about the pros and cons with this surgery? I still have 50-60 lbs to loose so maintaining at this weight is not a option yet! I just saw my Dr and he didn't seem worried at all and said I was trucking along fine. I rarely ever feel really hungry, but when I sit down and eat 3 oz of food, I don't feel the sensation of being full. I stop at that amount because I don't want to over fill my stomach. Anyone have any comments on what the "full sensation" feels like now? Or what to expect?

I had the VSG in 2014 and lost 110lbs. Unfortunately a mix of sleeve failure (after an egd my gastroenterologist said if he hadn't known I had the surgery he never would have guessed, my stomach was normal sized) and emotional eating cause me to gain back about half. My surgeon offered a revision with option to do resleeve, RNY, or DS. I don't wanna do an RNY because I need frequent EGD'S. I've always wanted the DS so that seems most logical. Vitamins and bowel movements don't worry me. What worries me is the amount of Protein malabsorption. Has anyone had issues with this? I already have a protein losing enteropathy so this is a concern. I've done alot of research, and its possible Im looking too much in to this, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer on how much of each Vitamins are required daily. I found this list.... -Adult Multivitamin, w/100% of the recommended daily allowance -1800 mg to 2400 mg Calcium citrate (divided into three or four doses of about 600 mg each, taken at least two hours apart) -18 mg to 27 mg Iron for menstruating women -10,000 IU Vitamin A -2000 IU Vitamin D -300 mcg vitamin K -B-50 complex is optional Is this accurate? Ive read alot of posts of people taking alot more so I have a hard time believing this is a comprehensive list.
