I couldn't wait! Dreamt about egg and cottage cheese. Today after 3 weeks of liquids, I made my first meal. Scrambled egg with fat free milk and mixed in fat free cottage cheese. Only managed 5 spoons. Is this the way it is going to be???

I have been out a week today, and have been feeling really great up until today. Yesterday I had visitors most of he day, managed to sleep in the late afternoon, but had a not so great night. TodayI have barely been out of bed, feel dizzy, have extreme pain around the drain area and just feel lousy with no energy at all. I am keeping liquids up..... Has anyone else experienced this?

Finally got word on insurance approval for my surgery. Yay! I'll be joining you all a week from tomorrow. I'm trying to make sure I'm prepared once I get home. I was told that while on the post-op liquid diet I would need a chewable, liquid or otherwise crushed multi-Vitamin and that once I move to the soft foods stage I'll start all the other vitamin and mineral supplements. Question 1: While on the liquid diet, would this be a good vitamin choice: http://www.amazon.com/Centrum-Chewable-Multivitamin-Flavored-Tablets/dp/B000RKVS5E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432565917&sr=8-1&keywords=centrum+chewable Question 2: I'm trying to order a variety of Protein suppl…

I am one year post op and have battled constipation since month three. I went on Thursday to see my surgeon regarding this issue. He has me drinking Miralax everyday now and has ordered a stool analysis to check fat content. He was very shocked when I told him about the constipation. I have also had a significant weight loss stall for the past 5 months. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Im a type 1 diabetic that did the band a year ago. I initially did well with it. Went down from 320 to 250. Well for some reason it slipped. Been recommended the rny gastric bypass. Somehow it was mentioned to me this new SIPS / SADI procedure that Dr. Roslin does and looking to hear if anyone has any experience or will be doing it. What I understand is that the weight loss is better than the bypass and doesn't have the unpleasant dumping syndrome.

Hi I am new to this forum, I come from South Africa, and we unfortunately don't have wonderful sites like these! I am pre-op, and having my surgery on 25 May. For the first 4 weeks, it was great. Gave up smoking, red wine, eating habits etc etc. Last week, I started dipping into a low that I cannot seem to pick myself out of. 12 days to surgery, and I need to be okay. Did anyone else go through a dip pre-op? I am on anti-depressants and stress related meds, but still feel down.

I read about it from a local bariatric patient that had lost too much weight and was having health problems. Her doctor put her on them to help her with Protein. They are pure protein with 99% absorption. Suppose to reverse aging, help with hair loss, brittle nails and sagging skin (and tata's)...LOL Helps with acid buildup in your throat. Following is an article I found interesting.... http://www.orgoneproducts.org/map.php Study results have shown that the use of MAP, in conjunction with the ANC/OMP regimen, has proven to be safe and effective by preventing those adverse effects associated with a negative nitrogen balance, such as oversized or flabby tissue, str…

So I've been having a down day or two. I'm just shy of 4 weeks post-op from the SADI/SIPS and I've plateaued for the past two weeks. Which I can live with although it is a bit disappointing. The harder part is my energy levels, I can't seem to get through a day without needing a nap around 1. When I skip taking a nap I'm so exhausted by the time 7 pm rolls around I'm ready to crash which doesn't work with a kindergartner and a 2.5 year old. I go back to work tomorrow (mostly sedentary) but, I'm not looking forward to the mid-day tiredness that will follow. The tiredness is really making me an emotional mess. I was expecting hoping by this time I'd have all this extr…

Hello all! I've been lurking and reading for a couple months and now that I have my insurance approval, and have my date scheduled I guess it is time to get active here! I will be having a DS on April 1st, yep April Fool's Day at Orlando Regional Medical Center. My surgeon is Dr. Muhammad A. Jawad of the Bariatric & Laparoscopy Center. I am so excited to start this journey and scared to death at the same time. I'm a mom of two wonderful children (6 y/o girl and 2 y/o boy), they are my most important motivation for having this surgery. I want nothing more than to live a long, healthy life and be there for them as they grow up! A quick question for all you pro's …

As anyone who has ever been overweight can tell you, heat and skin friction is a constant battle. Luckily last year I found "Gold Bond Friction Defense". It has been the best think since sliced bread. It has worked with no recurrence of that nasty friction rash we all get. Anyway, this weekend I noticed that I no longer needed this. I can now free myself of this burden. My point is this, we need to not only Celebrate the fact that our numbers are decreasing, but we need to also celebrate the small victories that make our life better. So Gold Bond Friction Defense stuff you have been great to me and helped me in so many ways, but now it is time to say adios.

Trying to find out if anyone has had DS in Texas who may have had medicare medicaid. I previously had the sleeve and am looking for a new doctor since mine is rude and hours away. I live western part of texas but I interested in anything. I'm not even sure where to start to find a doctor For DS in texas but all my surgeon wanted to do was gastric bypass. tells me it isn't medically necessary even though i still have all the same co morbilities and now my knees are worse then they were 3 years ago.medicare will allow a second surgery so i was told if it is medically necessary so i would like a second opinion. I'm frustrated at how the surgeon blames me for not losing wei…

Well, I had my surgery on 4/21/2015. The DS went well, but once I received a lovenox shot my clotting factor vanished. Turns out I have Von Millebrand Disease which is a type of hemophilia. Never knew I had it even though it is hereditary. I ended up being in the hospital for a week, and lost only .5 lbs due to the massive amounts of fluids administered. After all was said and done I received 6 units of blood, 4 units of plasma, and DDAVP. During this whole time I questioned my decision to even have surgery. Now that I am home I can look at it with a clearer head, and I know that the my health is worth all of the issues I encountered. Plus it was a blessing because …

Have you found that you are real sensitive to the sun since your surgery? We had company last Sunday and I was sitting outside with them. I got a little cold so I pulled my chair over into the sun. I never got what you called hot. I felt a few hot spots from the sun. When we went inside I told my husband I thought the sun did a number on me. It burnt my stomach through my underwear, jeans and tshirt. By night I had huge Water blisters forming on my lower stomach. They later burst and then got infected. Went to the doctor and he said it looked like deep chemical burns. I had on old jeans (too big) that I had for a long time, so they had been washed a lot....I we…

I am new to this. I am in Indianapolis, IN. Margaret Inman will be my surgeon. I have my psychological evaluation completed, my insurance approval, and today I paid the deposit for the surgery. I will be scheduled for pre-op testing within the next day or so. I hope to have the surgery before the end of the February, and I am having the DS. I know three people that had the same procedure I am having. Two did very well with it, one did not and ended up in a coma for 26 days, and then had to go to physical rehab for 60 days more. We found out later that his complications were caused by his lying about quitting smoking. All three people have lost tremedou…

Quick question for anyone who might know: My insurance has a BMI requirement of 50 in order to meet approval for the DS surgery. I was at 50.5 at my first doctor visit and actually gained about 10 pounds because I was so afraid of dropping below 50. My question basically has two parts: 1) If I were to begin at 50.5 and then drop down below 50, would I automatically be disqualified? My surgeon's office seemed to almost be telling me to maintain my weight and not lose any and that it would not affect insurance approval if I did not lose weight. Which brings me to: 2) My insurance requires a 3 month doctor assisted "weight loss" program prior to surgery. January is my …

What vitamins do you Ds'ers take daily. I was going over my packet from my surgeons office and they have me set up for the DS but gave info on the gastric bypass. I will be calling next week to ask for the right packet to be sent since I live over an hour away. I was just trying to plan ahead and buy in bulk with my tax return.

Hi everyone, I am new to the group. My name is Rosemary Mann and I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am having a BPD-DS on the 23rd Feb. I'm not new to WLS. I had a band fitted 5 years ago and initially things went well. However, after my first fill a bacteria had sneaked into the port area. After several more surgical procedures to drain abscesses that formed the band was removed and I was left with an open wound for about 6 months thereafter. What went wrong? Well I don't think I did my homework, the surgeon was not professional and the after care was non existent. After 5 years I have plucked up the courage to give it another go. But, this time I have done an eno…

My tastes for things have changed. But I also can't do certain smells. There was a woman next to me eating Doritos and they were terrible. Cigarette smoke has gotten to be too much. I've gone out and had to leave early because the smokiness in the venue makes me gag. Is anyone else having these issues?

Hello everyone! :-) This is my first post here. I was recommended to check out this site after posting on OH. Some info about me: I'm 25 years old, female, 5 feet tall and 263 pounds. I want the DS surgery. So far I've had my surgeon consultation and first dietitian appointment. I have all my other evaluations scheduled in the next month. My first issue I'm hoping for advice with: I went to my consult adamant that I want the DS surgery. Unfortunately I am NOT good at standing up for myself or disagreeing with doctors. When the surgeon asked what surgery I want, I said DS and he basically said that I do qualify at my BMI, but he would recommend I do the sleeve because…

I'm scheduled for my DS on 1/15, after a year long process. My surgeon recently told me he's limiting cc length to 150 to prevent serious malabsorption. Does that make sense to anyone ? My BMI is 50 and I don't agree with him and willing to put up a fight.

I just read in another post where someone's friend had major complications, following the DS procedure, which they discovered, "were caused by his lying about quitting smoking." Can someone explain this to me and give me an idea of how long a person will need to be free from smoking cigarettes until having this surgery is a "safe" option? I have just recently quit smoking and never considered that I may need to wait a certain amount of time after quitting to go through with surgery. Anyone have any advice?

Hello everyone! I've been reading this forum for a long time now but have never posted before. At my nutritional consult the psychologist really recommended I reach out to people who've had the surgery I am going to get (DS) to get some real life accounts of what life is like after surgery and to help me feel more prepared. I've had my initial consult, psych evaluation, nutrition consult, and am on month 2/3 of my doctor supervised weight loss program. I'm very excited that I'm getting close to (hopefully) being approved and getting my surgery date. I really feel like I'm ready (I've been reading everything I can on this particular surgery for over a year now, including…

Hello, all! My consult with my surgery center's DS specialist is this Thursday. I already know that my surgery center only performs the DS procedure on a case by case basis. I've already met the over 50 BMI requirement. I've put together a PROS/CONS list between the DS and RNY, but every Fiber of my being is telling me that DS is the one for me. I have put together a list for the doctor "proving" my case...with a list of legitimate reasons why he should agree to DS. I am a very organized and detail-oriented person, and so I really don't think that the strict Vitamin & Protein regimen will be an issue. Is there anything else that you can think of that might help "ple…

Hi everyone. I just joined the forum because I'm going out of my mind thinking about my upcoming surgery. I have been looking into weight loss surgery for the better part of eight years, with every issue life can throw at me popping up along the way. Then, all of a sudden, in the space of two or so months, every roadblock seems to fall away, and the team at the University of Chicago has offered me a date in less than two weeks for the DS procedure. I am such a combination of excited and scared, motivated and freaking out! It's hard to describe, but I know many of you have experienced the same thing. I am having weight loss surgery because I would like to avoid the many pr…

Can someone tell me what your diet was like the first two weeks after surgery? What did you eat/drink? Did you use nutrional supplements like Power Milk or Boost? What about Vitamins? I know that I am supposed to take them, but what kinds/brands did you take? Did you use the liquid ones, or were you able to take the pills? I have the information from the surgeon's office, but I keep hearing about "Real World" adaptaions of the program, and I would like to hear from some people that have had the surgery about what they did. Thank you!

I would like to meet more members that had the DS or revision from RNY to DS. I am in Arizona and my doctor has been outstanding from the beginning to the end. I had my revision 12/29 ; preoperative testing on 12/17 then postoperative testing 12/30 to check for leaks . The radiologist said he did a wonderful job on my surgery especially since I had a ton of scar tissue. I want to get meal ideas and chat with more people. Also they say there was no good Duodenal switch doctors in Arizona which wasn't true there was a lady the travel outside of AZ to come here for her surgery. Good luck to your weight loss journey and your decision

Hi All, Several months ago my gastroenterologist of 5 years whom I trust suggested bariatric surgery. I've spent the time since abusing my access to scholarly journals through work and had initially settled on the sleeve. I've got an initial consult with the local sleeve expert surgeon 1 week from today. It's all he does and all he's ever done, I was so excited! I wanted the sleeve! However, while continuing my obsessive research last night, I decided to look specifically at "super-obese" patients with a BMI between 50 and 60 (my BMI is 54.1) and what I found was devastating - according to the NIH, among the super-obese, the average EWL for VSG is 40-50% whereas the D…

From http://www.barkerbariatriccenter.com - The restrictive part of the duodenal switch procedure is achieved via partial gastrectomy (removal of part of the stomach), which reduces the size of the stomach. The distal or pouch-like portion of the stomach is removed. Some scientists think this helps reduce chemicals produced by the stomach that trigger hunger and eating. http://adjingo.2cimple.com/web/camp/publishpreview/2961

Nearly three weeks ago I woke one morning to find that I was having what I thought at the time was a very, very heavy period. I've had PCOS for years before I had WLS on July 8th, so I was somewhat familiar with this. But this was different. I was bleeding more than I had ever remembered before and to make things worse my body was expelling large baseball sized clots at first and reduced to the size of a ping pong ball every time I stood up. I was in the bathroom every hour on the hour or more and changing pads that frequently. I went through more than 22 pads in just 3 days. I went to two ERs, the first one was not staffed to handle Gyno issues, and the second one …

I am 1 yr 4 months post op from my ds. I once weighed 350lbs. Today I'm 165lbs. I still want to lose about 20-30lbs. But just curious if anyone who's post op at least as far as I am or even further out has had any issues with foods now that they didn't before. Such as hamburger. Starting about a month ago I started getting sick every time I'd eat hamburger meat. The next day bad stomach pains or in the toilet like crazy. Also throwing up right after eating hamburger meat and I don't over eat. Also anything dairy makes me sick now too and all this just started about a month ago. I thought it was from some new pills my Dr put me on. But I noticed it's just from the certain …

Hi, I am 36, 5'5", and weight 307. I just did my consult with my surgeon and psychologist. I was cleared by both, now just have the NUT. Luckily I have now other health issues so all I have to do is make it through the six months of meetings, and then my switch in May. Although he didn't say I had to lose any weight during that time I am going to try to lose at least 20 lbs. I just want to wish everyone going through this the best of luck, and to remember that you can do it. We have to so that we can live the life we deserve.
