Not to scare anyone, I just want to report on my recent complication from surgery. I am 7 months post op from duodenal switch. I've had no complications until two weeks ago. I felt a little ill one afternoon, minor stomach pain. I attributed it to acid or gas. I then ate dinner and immediately became violently ill. Severe abdominal pain and nausea. So bad my husband took me to the ER. I started vomiting and I needed pain medicine. A CT scan shoed some kind of blockage. They admitted me and my bariatric surgeon met with me in the morning. He said a had at least a partial blockage in the small intestine. He operated laproscopically that afternoon. I also needed an umbilic…

I am trying to determine which surgery would be the best for me specifically in terms of recovery, long term success and weight regain. Does anyone have any thoughts about the traditional DS with a longer common channel? I guess I'm the most concerned about malabsorption and its long term effects. I'm only 29 and I plan on having children one day so it's certainly something I worry about.

What does your daily Vitamin regimen consist of? I joined a few DS specific Facebook groups and according to the vets on there, my surgeon and NUT have set me up for failure and/or possible future death. I do the Bariatric Advantage multi ea adek 2x a day and upcal powder 3x a day. I'm also on extra vitamin d and Iron because that was low pre-surgery. Thanks in advance! Hi everyone! I'm about a month and a half out from surgery. I had a DS on 12/14/16 with a SW of 260. I'm currently sitting at 228. So, generally I feel like I've been successful thus far with my weight loss. However, sometimes I feel like it's very slow. I stalled for about 10 days, and am slowly climbing out of the hole. I find that I'm having a very hard time controlling cravings (particularly for sugar...) also find that I'm hungry really often some days, and not hungry at all on others. Does anyone have tips for craving control? Why am I so hungry sometimes, and not others? I expected to never be hungry, but I definitely am.

I'm a private person and have not told anyone at work about my surgery. Last Friday a co-worker, who is also obese, took the liberty to comment on my weight loss. " You're just wasting away! You look good. But you don't need to loose anymore weight." I was so shocked and really wasn't ready for a comment like that. All I could do was laugh it off. Fast forward to today. A different co-worker said the same thing to me. " You're wasting away" I just responded with "yeah your right." All of my co-workers are used to seeing me at 260 pounds . I am now 185. I'm still obese and have no intention to self sabotage my progress because of anyone's ideal of what "Looks good e…

I am 26 years old and about two weeks away from approval for surgery. I weigh 392 pounds and wonder which is the best surgery for me. I'm currently a law student, so recovery time is also important. And, as an attorney, I will always be on the go. If you could do it again would you still do the switch ( I'd be doing the single loop) or would a sleeve get the job done? My doctor doesn't have a specific opinion as a qualify for both. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Okay fellow dsers, vets, or anyone passed me two months out. Why does my food taste so different its nasty at first it was the chicken now that i was able to move up to ground beef that taste like shyte literally. Nothing tastes normal not coffee, not my Beans, not tea, or any of the allowed meats. All i taste is what i think the whey smells like after your body processes it. Somebody please tell me you know what im talking about its getting me down in the dumps. I know that food is fuel n…

Had my DS late on Tuesday. Still in the hospital due to nausea. Hoping to go home tomorrow. Definitely feeling a bit of "buyers remorse" mostly just due to feeling so poorly. I'll just walking and sipping and hopefully will feel more like myself tomorrow. Good luck to everyone on either side of the gate! Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

Hi all! So, I'm curious. Is the three week stall a real thing, or am I just doing something wrong? I just hit week four today, and the scale hasn't moved more than a pound (up and down) since last Tuesday. I'm kind of concerned, and wondering if other people have experienced this too.

Anyone had a DS in Louisiana or a PCP there that's familiar with the DS? I move to LA in a few days, but I'm only just over 2 months post-op. I'm terrified to leave my surgeon and his care, but this is happening! I need to find a new doc to monitor my bloodwork and make sure I don't get malnourished! Maybe this should be in Rants and Raves, and not here, but I really needed to vent a bit. I had duodenal switch surgery with gallbladder removal and a liver biopsy on October 24. I am seriously wondering what I've done to myself. Everyday is an adventure in weird and random pains, eating food and then feeling awful when I eat too fast, too much, or the wrong thing, going through a roll of TP a day in wiping my butt after the 8,000 times a day I "poop", going through recipes and wanting to cry because I can't eat ANY OF THEM. The list goes on. I was trying to make it to two weeks before having a pity party, but today was just over the top with being caused physical pain fr…

So I've been reading on the forum and have saw that the sleeve procedure can make GERD worse and bypass cures it. However, doesn't seem like there's many switch people, so I was wondering if SIPS makes GERD worse or does it clear it? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

DS scheduled for January 17th. Started my liquid diet yesterday. Had my preop testing done Monday. Saw today that my WBC is slightly elevated, my Vitamin D and Iron are low. I'm not feeling sick at all. My allergies have been super bad though. I am hoping this doesn't cost me my surgery date. Any one else have any blood work issues???? Hi All, I am asking all the DS/MDS/SIPS folk who have video blogs or vlogs to post a link here. There are a lot of vertical sleeves coming up on youtube, but as you know, we have slightly different issues, smells, Vitamins, etc, to deal with. I would think, if you have a favorite vloger already, who isn't on this forum, you could link their page, too. Please only do Duodenal Switches, Modified DS or the SIPS on this thread. follow this format, if you don't mind, so people can be picky, if they want, and watch the vlogs with the same procedures, but I would recommend watching everyones. Name: DuodenalSwitchMan Procedure: Duodenal Switch, but with 3 meter common c…

I have been approved for DS surgery that is currently scheduled for January 17th. I have my preop class this Tuesday and my preop testing on January 3rd. I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I am new here. I thought I would share a little about my experience and see if anyone else had a similar situation. First let me say, I really was dragging my feet about having a Duodenal Switch as it seemed to so severe, but my doctor insisted it was the best procedure for me. The first week, I was hating life, but it gets a little better each day. I was told when I woke up from surgery that my appendix had been removed as well. I just figured that it was inflamed or something. I hadn't had any symptoms of appendicitis. . . . As it turns out, I had a non-malignant tumor in my appendix. It was a type that can become maligna…

Hi everyone! I am in the process of having DS surgery. I still have a few months to go before the big day but I have some major concerns about my medication. I take Paxil and I have been taking it for years. I had agoraphobia really bad for like 10 years. I saw a new doctor and he raised my Paxil and since then I have been 100 times better. Now I heard that having DS or the gastric bypass can effect your medications because of how your body absorbs it.Have any of you had a problem with you meds??? Thanks!

July 7th two days before my birthday I am at work having a pretty ok day. Then out of no where it hit me I could not breathe I was on the phone with a customer and could barely talk. I really thought I was going to die. Thank God it was not a heart attack it was an anxiety attack it was God getting my attention to stop talking about change and make it happen. So here I am tomorrow makes exactly two weeks until surgery. I start my pre op diet on thankgiving and Ibe never been so happy to not be eatting I am so excited to join the WLS community. Has anyone ever been awaken in the middle of your sleep by your shivering body. It felt like my insides were frozen. Yet once i woke up it did not take much to warm back up. I was under the covers so that was not the problem. If i had to describe it i would say that i had died and then came back to life when i woke. A little dramatic i know but thats how it feels. I will be talking to the doctor about it just wondering if anyone has had experience with this. Ds or other all thoughts welcomed. Had surgery dec 5 Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

Tomorrow will be one week since my Loop DS with Dr. Cottom. The drain they left in is driving me crazy. How long did your doctors leave the drain in? They will be removing my staples tomorrow and I hope that they will also take my drain out. I am worried that it is going to hurt. Oh and how long did you wear your binder? I would love to hear others experiences. Thanks!

I was originally sleeved 9/2010 and lost 105. The past 2 years I regained about 40 of those pounds and was just not okay with it. On 8/11/2016 I had the intestinal portion of the SADI-S completed- my sleeve was still in good shape and needed no revision. I'm now 8 days post-op from my SADI-S Revision and down 12 pounds (I know, holy crap). Because previously I had the sleeve, that is the only reference I have to go on in terms of what to expect post-op. However, it's become clear to me that this "intestinal" revision is NOTHING like getting sleeved. I have NO issues with drinking, swallowing, topping off, or stomach restriction associated pains. I do seem sensitive to…

So i went and pre registered for surgery on monday found out that i had met most of my out of pocket. Had to pay about 900.00 which is why i was pushing for surgery this year next year i probably could not afford it. Did blood and x ray and did a final weigh in before surgery. I was only required two days of a preop diet before surgery however i took all the info given to me in our meetings and put my self on a high Protein low carb diet happy to say i lost 11 pounds on my own Now i know that is not much but let me tell you for someone who started at 391 that means the world to me. It gives me the i can do this feeling. The one major issue i am facing is the exercise whi…

Well, I finally made stupid choices and ended up with stupid results. Just an FYI, I am officially cleared to eat all the foods. I went to an Asian restaurant yesterday and ordered my favorite shrimp fish to split with my friend. I managed to forget it was breaded in rice flour, and I didn't even consider that it was deep fried. I also ordered Chinese greens. I ate two shrimp and a few bites of greens. I was feeling panicked and full and like I couldn't breathe. I took 3 sips of Water (something I've absolutely not done since surgery) and immediately headed to the restroom. I threw up before I could even get the door locked. Uuuuugh. I went back to the table, but I h…

My insurance company just called and approved my DS surgery. I should have it before the end of December!! So I have a few questions - *How much help and for how many days should I expect to need from others (if any)? My mom offered to come and help me, but if I won't "need" it, I might would rather be peacefully alone lol. *What are some "must haves" that I should purchase to have on hand before surgery? *What are things you wished you would have done differently before surgery or while recovering? *Any other help or advice?
