hello all, I am new to this forum and live in North Carolina . my first consultation was in November 2017 , I am in pre-op status now... I ahve finished all the stuff on the checklist...I just have the endoscopy to do and then we submit everything to BCBS of NC for approval ... hoping I do not have to wait 12 months ... I have been working with my primary doctor for 2 plus years, trying medical diets, etc... and she has vouched for me and has provided me with her letter of recommendations and all the documentation stating my attempts of dieting. I am wondering if this can count towards the 12 months so I don't have to wait.. Any input would be greatly appreciate…

Okay... need some guidance/confirmations here....I’m in full liquid /purée stage... Surgery was Tuesday, went home Friday, started purée Saturday, and it’s Sunday... Yesterday I had: Apple sauce for breky (i found it takes my blood thinner med and dissolves well, plus I can finish the whole little cup, so I can ensure I get all my med) About half an Atkins Protein Shake for lunch Some Campbell’s Tomato bisque for lunch (only had a few bites) More shake in the afternoon, Apple sauce for dinner (wasn’t really hungry) And some vanilla pudding with Protein powder mixed in for dessert. I had my EGD today. The doctor found that I have a hiatal hernia, GERD, gastritis and esophogitis. So he's going to fix my hernia during surgery. My insurance only requires an EGD and a psych evaluation. I did that yesterday, and saw my surgeon and nutritionist today after my EGD. And got the go ahead to send to insurance for approval! I would like to share my story, but not to scare anyone, its to see what can happen with the wrong surgeon. I'm not going to do it tonight because it is long and don't want to get into it tonight. Also not sure anyone would like to hear another horror story which is still going on 18 years later.

Hi Everyone, this is a little bit of a weird situation. My best friend and I both had the DS. Hers on 2/1/18 and mine on 2/2/18 both by the same surgeon. As of today she has lost 39lbs post op (76lbs total) and I have lost 32lbs post op (58lbs total). At first she was excelling much better then I in recovery. I was nauseous all the time if I stood for too long and she was feeling good, cooking for the family a week and a half out! She was a champ! Unfortunately about 3 weeks out things flipped Now at about 6wks out Im all good, eating solids and feeling great, for her she is opposite. I'm looking for a Duodenal Switch surgeon near Lexington KY. I found Dr. Weiss in Lexington but he only does SIPS as a revision to a past VSG surgery. Ok guys, what the heck am I doing wrong? I'm about 3 weeks post-op DS and, up until about 5 days ago, I was doing great. At my first check up I'd lost 30 lbs. Now the scale hasn't budged for five days and I can't see a reason. (Are you even supposed to reach "plateaus" at this point?) I haven't been overeating; I think I'm getting enough fluid and I'm walking up and down the halls of (snowbound) house. Has anyone else been through this kind of thing? thanks for listening

Hi everyone. I had my gallbladder out three years ago and since have been suffering with bile reflux. It's gradually gotten worse over the course of the three years. My life has almost come to a standstill due to the nausea, breathing problems, anxiety and general discomfort this condition brings. I am a 69 year old male, 5'7", weighing in at 325 lbs., and will soon be getting either a DS or a Loop DS. It is my hope to be able to eat 3,000 to 4,000 calories a day within a year or so of my surgery. I understand that the DS is a more complicated procedure than the Loop DS, and that operative and post-operative complications are a bit higher because of that. I know that with the DS there will be more malabsorption of nutrients and that I will have to be on a stricter nutrient regimen. Hey all, New to the forum, and have been struggling with this new opportunity. I had the sleeve done in 2013 and have been successful with nearly 150lbs lost. However, I gained a bit and am still at 364lbs. My sleeve surgeon has brought on a new partner who specializes in the DS and has called me to offer it up as I am a "prime" candidate with a successful sleeve and more to lose. While I am happy to have lost all the weight, I still struggle with being the "big guy", and I find it hard to say no to it when I could lose another 75-100lbs My wife is also totally against having another "elective" surgery. I've still got 28 pounds to lose, so this isn't currently an issue, but I'm wondering how people stop losing weight once they reach their goal. I don't feel like I'm depriving myself or hungry. I eat lots of lean protein and vegetables and snack on nuts, string cheese, and other high protein foods, something I didn't do before my surgery, but I feel like this is the new normal for me. I don't see myself changing this new way of eating once I get to a healthy BMI, so how does the body know to stop losing? I am just begining my second journey into surgical weight loss. I had a gastric bypass in 2009 and am planning a DS in April 2018.. Many things, I'm discovering have changed. Including the offering of the DS. I will admit I am still in the 'Scared to Death' phase, having only visited my doc last week. Fortunately, it will be the same doc that did my previous surgery. So apparently the stress of losing extreme amounts of weight can cause enough stress on the body that it might trigger shingles even in a younger demographic. I'm supposed to get the duodenal switch surgery soon, but I had a few questions. Is the surgery done in all at once or in steps? I also read online that those who get the surgery also have their gallbladder removed; is that true? The doctor that's doing the surgery didn't really say if he was doing the surgery in stages or all at once. I'm assuming that he is doing the surgery all at once. Little background, have the gastric sleeve almost 4 year ago have gained over 60 pounds back along with reflux and hiatal hernia has returned. Went to see my doctor and had recommended getting the SIPS procedure also called the loop duodenal switch. Would love to hear from anyone who has had this surgery and how successful it was. How much weight did you loss and at what rate?? Over all experience??

Hello, My name is Martha and I had Ds surgery back in 2012, I am really disappointed myself as i was close to 400(362 lbs) . I went all the way down to 240 I started jogging, exercising life was amazing, I ended up with an emergency hysterectomy that had to be done via c section which put me on my back for over 2 months then it got infected etc... jogging was out habits came back. I am now at a high 177 and super depressed. How to deal with it is really hard, any suggestions??

I had the sleeve done five years ago. I got pregnant eight months after. I lost 88 pounds from the sleeve and gain to 60 back. November 14, 2017 I had the single anastomoses duodenal switch. I lost 14 pounds the first two weeks and have not lost but have gained 1 pound in the last two weeks. For those of you out there that I’ve had this done has it been successful for you? Hello all!!! I am currently working on completing all the requirements for BCBS DS weight loss surgery. I've completed 5/6 monthly dietician visits, the psych consult and so far have lost 23 pounds. I started at 433lbs. I'm nervous about the insurance process. What if they don't approve the DS and I've gone through all of this for nothing? When does it get easier to get up out of bed or a chair? Once I’m walking around I’m better but getting out of bed or a chair is pulling so much. So I'm 1 week post-op (tmi) I had my first BM yesterday and I've noticed that my right side has been in pain every since... Being that I am in my 3rd week post op from a sleeve with a DS, and into the mushy foods stage - I wanted to post a couple of things that I found to be very useful with pre-surgery and post. If you go on the liver reduction diet like I did pre-op, then do yourself a favor and go to the vitamin store that sells your stuff well before your start date, and get the single serving samples of ALL of the BA shakes, and also buy one of each of the snacks. My wife had me do this and it was a life saver! I found some of the "recommended" flavors were really not tolerable for me. Public service announcement: if you don’t like talking about bowel movements, please don’t read any further. So 6 months after my DS I had to have my gallbladder removed laparoscopically. Well I thought all my problems were solved. Not! [emoji19]. So I’m right at 10 months post op DS and I am was us to have 4-5 five soft brown bowel movements daily. Post gallbladder movement especially within the last 3 months I have noticed I’m having 6-7 dark green pain bowel movement that wake me up at night at least 3 times and they are loose and grainy. Has anyone else's sense of smell changed? Does it come back? I really find myself hypersensitive to smells ever since my surgery. It's easy for me to not overeat, because nothing actually smells very good to me...it's my biggest hurdle in eating any kind of meat right now...I just kind of force it... I know, I know, the sizes shouldn't matter, really. But I'm curious where everyone who has gotten to goal has rounded out, size-wise, compared to where you started. I started at a size 28 and am 3 months post-op. I've lost around 78 lbs. and am down to a size 18; these size 18s are starting to get loose. I am astounded constantly by this turn of events because I was definitely not a size 18 at 240 lbs. on the way up! It's so interesting how bariatric bodies are different from normal ones! So where did you finish up in sizes? At this rate, I may blow my dream 'size 10' out of the water!
