I don't have any friends or know anybody else who has had Bariatric surgery before. I would love to add some people on here to connect with. I know a support group makes a big difference. Please add me and I will add you back if you see this. ? Even social media would be cool. I don't post much but I need accountability buddies.

Hi!! I will be having the SADI-S surgery, should be July 2023. I get my exact date next week! I am purchasing the items I will need for the 2 week liver shrinking diet pre-op, as well as the liquid 4 weeks post op. I would really appreciate it if you could list the clear liquids you drank that you loved!!! So far, I love Unjury chicken soup. But I can't stand anything in the liquid protein sampler. *Liquicel- maybe I don't know what to mix it with!! The grape and unflavored gagged me. *Nectar powder-crystal sky. *The little protein shots, pink lemonaMr. Please help!!! I can't waste any more money. Nicole

Hey fellow DSers... Just a little story from me, a DSer roughly 2 1/2 years out. I underwent the DS on 8/13/2018, and effortlessly lost over 100% of my excess weight. So during the 2020 lockdown I think a number of circumstances contributed to me gaining ~30 pounds of regain! I'm not sure when the regain precisely started, probably sometime in April 2020, since I wasn't logging my weight by that time. Now to the DS's credit, even with that 30 pounds I was still within the "normal" BMI for my height, at around 24 BMI. This regain wasn't disastrous, but I certainly didn't like the trend. Basically I believe I got overconfident in the DS, and what …

I'm 8 yrs post op on a gastric bypass and have now started regaining weight. I'm considering the bypass revision or what appears to be another name duodenal switch. Curious if anyone has done this and what are their results...Also this would be a self-paid surgery and I was looking for an estimated cost.

I am 19 years post op DS with DR Rabkin . I need help with issues I am having at present . Secondary Hyperparathyroidism. Do I need to have a endocrinologist to handle this? My hematologist suggested this since he follows my Iron and gives me the IV iron which works great. Also what is the best osteoporosis med to take?? I am on Prolia which is expensive and my primary care Dr ordered it. I was 264lbs pre DS and am 156 now. I do have dental issues, and autoimmunine issues (may not be DS related) Is there any other long term DS patients out there????

Hi everyone! I’m new here & wanted to see if anyone shares a surgery date with me. This upcoming Friday, November 18th, I’ll be having my sleeve to DS surgery & I’m so darn excited! I’ve been waiting almost 4 years for this surgery. I started in 2019 then Covid hit. Then life hit & everything was basically put on pause. I started the process again last year, but I was working so much that I didn’t take the time out to do what needed to be done for the surgery. Then I got Covid & lost 12lbs in a week. But, the weight came back once I was able to eat & taste good again. Lol…. So now, here I am with a surgery date. I think excited is an understatemen…

Hi, Everyone - I've seen a few posts about how many calories people have been eating to maintain their goal weight but none about how much they have to eat to lose weight and was curious, as my surgeon never gave me a target caloric intake (I had my procedure in 2014). He just told me to eat 80-100 grams of protein a day and to focus on avoiding refined carbs. I was also wondering if the target caloric intake people are talking about is total consumption or absorbed amount. (For example, they eat/consume 2000 calories a day but only absorb 1200 of those consumed calories so their target is 1200 absorbed calories?) Thanks in advance for the insight!!!

Hello fellow DSers I have recently gained a few lbs and I’m freaking out. About 10 since fall with about 5-6 in the past 2 weeks (due to a bed rest situation/no exercise situation from a non related medical procedure I think). I am normally very active. I also do intermittent fasting. I work out about 2 hours a day 7 days a week with few exceptions. But to be honest I’m a terrible eater. I’m a sugar and carb addict and live my life a slave to my upset stomach (ds related) Again to be honest that has worked for me 2 years out I’ve lost 100% of my excess weight but it’s not working anymore. I went from 283 to 138 and am now about 148. How have you all handled …

I had my revision DS surgery last June 3 20201. Had a blockage from surgery on June 4th stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks. Just had another blockage 2 months ago and had surgery again. This time he removed the blockage and a ton of scar tissue. Well, my big problem is I have lost 215lbs. I started at 565lbs and am down to 350lbs. I am going nuts, I can't loose another pound to save my life. I tried the whole Krispy Kreme thing it was a no go. I am doing premier protein shakes. They told me to do 80mg of protein a day, but I cut back. I don't feel like I have lost a thing. I had plans by now. Skin removal, boob job, and neck fixed. Now I am a failure. I feel like my fam…

Hi! I was banded back in 2008. I'm 5'4" and my weight before surgery was 290-something. I lost about 130 lbs in the first year, and maintained at around 165-175 (for me this weight equated to around a size 10, which I was fairly pleased with) for almost 10 years. I had a tummy tuck in 2016 and believe that my band was nicked when the plastic surgeon moved my port. In any case i suffered a 'slow leak' in the band that my surgeon Dr. Elariny could not pinpont, even under fluoroscopy, and have not really had any restriction for the last 5 years. I have sloooowwwwlly gained back up to 215 lbs during that time. Last month I had a consult with Dr Elariny to explore …

BPD-DS done in 2007 15 years post op. I have severe Osteoporosis due to malabsorption, mostly self inflicted by not being diligent with my vitamins and supplements. Stopped losing weight, eating a good healthy diet, assumed I was getting what I needed did not take supplements on a regular basis. Fast forward to today, I've been faithfully taking vitamins, calcium, iron for about 2 years now but I can't seem to slow the cycle of osteoporosis. I'm taking tymlos injections nightly, but my bone scans steadily decline. Any suggestions for Oral or patch Calcium that is extremely quickly absorbable please share info.

Hi all, I I have done some research and am considering this to be my best option. I am pre op and have my very first appointment with a Bariatric Surgeon on 4/25. I am currently 278 pounds and am 5 ft tall with a BMI over 50. I’m 31 and suffer from liver disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, gastroparesis, angina/chest pain, have had a TIA, limited mobility, sleep apnea, type II diabetes and most recently diagnosed with multiple pulmonary embolisms. I am slowly killing myself and I am done. I am considering other options, but feel with my BMI and myriad of co morbidities, that this is my best option.

Duodenal Switch Newly sleeved on 07/29/22. Had a three day hospital stay. I’m currently still on the full liquid diet. My post-op appointment is on 8/11/22. I am STRUGGLING with my water intake. I barely can get the protein shakes in now after surgery, before they tasted better. I find that no sugar applejuice does well with me though. But now zero sugar powerade tastes salty. Its alot of changes. Any ideas for how to get more water in? I feel a little dehydrated my lips are more dry now than before surgery. I hope At my appointment this week I can go to pureed foods. Luckily I havent had any vomit episodes except the day after surgery in the hospital. But any advice or t…

My surgery was Oct 2020. Started having elevated ALP, ALT, and AST levels 6months post op with enlarged liver. In the hospital for a week with no answers to the cause. It's been 3 months since the hospitalization and the ALP is elevated again. All other blood work and vitamins are excellent levels. Doctor ordered an Alkaline Phosphate Isoenzyme test to determine the source of the elevated ALP. The results shows both liver and bone as the source. Anyone else have this happen? What could possible be the issue?

Hi all. Just wondering about something. I'm 8 years out from surgery, almost to the day. I lost about 95-100 pounds depending on the day. For the last couple of years, I've gotten to the point where I *hate* eating. Nothing sounds good, nothing tastes good, most of the time I'm not even hungry. And when I do eat, it's the tiniest few bites. I haven't gained anything back, but I haven't lost either. I'm now engaged and my fiance is driving me crazy always trying to get me to eat, even when I absolutely insist I don't want to. I know he's just concerned but I don't know what to tell him. Has anyone else experienced this? Any input is greatly apprec…

I had a sleeve done about 10 years ago when I was 40. I went from about 280 to 160 and have put the weight back on. I have seen two surgeons in my area in the last couple of months. One does DS and says I am kinda halfway through a DS procedure. The other surgeon does not do DS so she is recommending bypass. If I really want, she can refer me to a surgeon in the hospital system who does DS but that is 3 hours away. I've had some friends use the DS surgeon and recommend her but her office staff is a hot mess. An overall lack of organization and I send info to the person I am told to but then someone else calls and says I wasn't supposed to send to that person. The …

Hi everyone, I am 20 days from surgery (4/18) and I am nervous and excited. I feel prepared but at the same time I feel like I don't know what I am doing. My hospital hasn't been the easiest to work with as far as providing information on what to expect so I have been doing a lot of my own research. It almost feels like my doctors put everyone in the same camp and don't take each person as an individual which is highly annoying for a "Type A"/Planner like myself. I start a full pre-op liquid diet on 4/4 to help shrink my liver and jump-start weight loss before surgery. I am fully stocked up on Fairlife protein shakes (every flavor except coffee) and have unflavored p…

Hi everyone, I am so excited and grateful that I am going to join the DS family soon. Dr. Kini is my Surgeon. He performs TDS as well as the modified version of the DS. The way my luck and body is set up, the traditional DS is the best tool for me. So far so good, Dr. Kini and his entire Staff have been Professional and helpful. I am loving the team. I would love to speak to other people that had surgery with him or heard of him. Thank you in advance.

I am 4 years old and strict with getting in my protein first and foremost. Im having monthly period cravings. I can’t stop obsessing about weight and cravings and thoughts of food. Im not sure what’s going on with me but I have this instaiable hunger. I feel like my hunger is returning and its really terifying me. Im petrified of weight regain. I was in the hospital 4 times since my July tummy tuck with lower body lift. I went septic and required ICU blood transfusions. I was at my lowest weight of 190. I couldn’t eat when I was weak and sick. Now my body is healing a dehissed wound on my hip (from that surgery) its like my body is craving things it did pre surgery. Im te…

Hi - I am new here, but I am wondering if anyone can speak to their success having the SADI-S procedure after an unsuccessful VGS. I had a VGS done in 2015 and lost some weight but quickly gained it back after healing b/c I felt little to no restriction. My surgeon has suggested revising that to add the malabsorptive portion of the SADI-S. I am just curious if anyone here has had experience with this type of revision and what success you had following the DS portion. Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone, This may seem like a stupid question but for those of you in maintenance, what foods and how many calories do you consume each day to maintain? I’m asking because my doctor told me to stop losing and go into maintenance a few kilos ago but I’m finding that I can’t eat enough at the moment to get to maintenance. If I try eating foods that are too high in calories and fat, it seems to flush out even more and more quickly. I don’t digest breads and pasta well so just cranking up on those carbs won’t work. I would love to hear about your tips and tricks or meal plans to stay healthy and maintain your weight. Any help would be appreciated a…

I'm scheduled for surgery December 16th and I'm having second thoughts. I had a traumatic childhood (I am in weekly therapy) so control over food is important to me. I'm not a binger not do I necessarily eat too much, I gain weight because of what I eat. Will I be able to eat any foods I like after I'm through the post-op liquid/puree stages? I can't handle eating only low fat protein and veggies now and that seems to be what others are eating on chat groups. Should I not have the surgery or have others with emotional eating issues been ok? I really appreciate hearing from anyone willing to answer, especially those with psychological food reliance issues. Also, I'm told n…

Hi all, How did everyone feel their 3rd week post op? How soon did people get back to work, part time or full time? I tried going back to work this wee after 2 weeks off. I could barely last half a day and one day was very ill and didn't clock in at all. I don't know if I caught a stomach bug from one of my family members or if I tried something that triggered it. Also, all week my mouth tastes metallic. I thought maybe it was ketosis until I was sick for a day. I had a LOT of acid. I was really surprised at what I had to come up for the low amount of liquid and food I'm getting. My water intake this week has been terrible and I think it's the taste…

My surgeon recommended the Loop DS for me. He raved about it, saying it would eventually overtake the bypass. He's writing a paper on this method and I believe that he believes in the results. I'm just nervous going with a procedure that "nobody" seems to get or has even heard of. Why do you think more people aren't going this route? Why did you choose the Loop DS?

So I am scheduled for bypass in December. Recently I’ve read several things about the switch. Wondering why one opts for that or what makes you more suited for that vs the bypass. It comes down to the end of the line before final decision from my surgeon and I, but looks like my office isn’t a big pusher of the switch due to more risks and complications. Would just like to hear from real people here who have had it.

The 1st of September was my 6 month surgiversary and what a journey it has been!! I have lost 88 pounds in total, 75 pounds post surgery. Gone from a size 22 (18 US) to a 12/14 (8/10 US), which I have never been as an adult. I feel amazing, so much more energy and excited about fashion and all the non scale victories. The only real downside has been some serious hair loss but it seems to be slightly slowing down now, fingers crossed!! I have about 20 pounds to go to hit goal, and will then see what that looks like and if I want to lose more. I hated taking pictures of me before but I included one a friend snuck in a bit before I started my pre-surgery …

I had a gastric bypass 10 plus years ago and had a DS on June 3rd of last year and now if I eat or drink a protein shake, not all at once, I can eat alot more. My surgeon said he made my pouch the size of a golf ball, but it is way larger than that now I think. So would I need to go back into surgery for a pouch reconstruction or could I do something else. I can't go back to my first surgeon, because my husband is a truck driver and we up and moved states. I know bad idea, but I was happy I could take care of myself. So any ideas?

I had my DS on July 12 but, one of my intestines was being cagey during laparoscopic which forced my surgeon to finish the surgery open. This has caused a three day stay in the hospital and obviously a much much larger scar. I’m stapled from my boobs to my belly button. So it goes. On the flip side, I can stomach anything so far with no nausea. Ice chips, cold water, four different protein shakes, broth, SF Jello and SF popsicles. Just waiting to poop. Otherwise, I’m healing well and on schedule.

Hello all. I am awaiting a Surgery date for the Duodenal Switch Loop surgery. I was just approved by my insurance. My doctors appt. Is Sept 15th maybe sooner (I'm on Cancelation list). When I see my dr. He will give me date for my surgery. I'm not sure what to expect pre surgery..I've been delayed for a long time due to the Pandemic. So the sooner the better..trying to be really conscious of my eating before I go for appt. Any advice would be helpful.

Hi everyone, just thought to share my journey so far for those thinking of the Sadi procedure. I’ll be 6 weeks post op on Monday and have lost 38 pounds so far, 25 of those were lost post op. The first 9 day post op were pretty painful for me but after that I couldn’t believe how much difference 24 hours made and everything started to shift and get better each day. I was on liquids for the first two weeks post op, then purées for two weeks and now on softish foods for two weeks. After the first two weeks my weight loss slowed down and I can have half a week of no movement on the scales so I stopped weighing myself every day and only weigh weekly now. For th…

I am 19 months post op from DS surgery. I’m SO happy with my weight loss. I’ve been fluctuating between 140-144 for a while now (months) this week out of the blue with no change in my diet (which could definitely be better) or exercise (which is always good) I’m up to 145 146 148. Should I be worried this is a wall I’m hitting? Wil I be 175 by the end of the year? Not that I’m emotionally scared from my pre surgey life or anything ha! Or is this just normal and keep on truckin’ and expect to be back in the 140-144 zone in a week or so. Argh so nerve wracking!

Hey y'all my first post but I'm just over a week out and I'm having issues keeping down protein shakes. I've tried both Premier Protein, that I used pre-op and had no problems, and one of the muscle milks. But I'm feeling gassy and Nauseous almost immediately after sipping either one for a few minutes. Anyone have any advice. I'm struggling to get really any protein at this point.
