Hello, all. Does anyone happen to know what CPT code is used for the loop ds (SADI-S)? From what I've found, it is still considered experimental by insurance companies and doesn't have a specific code.

I am scheduled to have the Duodenal Switchnon August 10, 2021. I'm a type 2 insulin dependent diabetic on lots of meds. Just want to know if anyone was type 2 diabetic before the DS and no longer have it? My surgeon and primary care doctor both said the DS gives me the best chance (90%) at the diabetes going into remission. If you were a diabetic before the DS, did the diabetes go away? Is it still there but off a lot of the meds? How long did it take? Please tell me your DS/Diabetic stories!

Hello, everyone! I had the Loop Duodenal Switch surgery 14 months ago on January 23, 2020. At my heaviest I was 389 pounds, but was 321 on the day of my surgery. I am currently 191 pounds and only 11 pounds away from my personal goal weight. When I was first looking into this surgery (which was the suggested surgery of my surgeon) I was wondering just how many vitamins I was going to have to take every day and just how much this was going to cost me. So I decided that since I just ordered a year's supply of vitamins I may as well share that for those of you who are looking into the surgery and want to know those things. And what exactly a years supply of vitamins looks li…

I am preparing to have the loop duodenal switch surgery. My doctor advised this for me. The sleeve didn't early work for me. Anyhow I have gone through the things I had to do like the dietician, the trainer and the psyche evaluation. Just waiting now to revisit my doctor now. I don't know what is expected of me now. But I will find out. I've been trying to follow the bariatric eating and getting in protein. Any advice that anyone can give me..I'm a little anxious about it..Surgery doesn't scare me, its the unknown I suppose, the expectations of after. Thanks to anyone...Donna in Maine

Not quite 2 months out. Down 35lbs the first month. Been at the same weight for almost all of the following 3 weeks now. So frustrating. I hope this changes soon. It's very discouraging when I'm following my instructions to a T. I see my surgeon and nutritionist on the 9th. Hopefully the scale will move or they will have some advice for me!

Hi everyone, Just curious to hear what you all think: I'm on track to have my surgery in November. My starting weight in July was 338. This morning I was 306 (yay!) So I've lost a significant amount of weight already. I'm 5'9", so I definitely need to lose weight, and a lot of it. But it does kind of seem like the place I chose is "selling" me on the duodenal switch a little bit hard. Maybe its because they know what I dont, but there's also part of me that thinks maybe it is too drastic and I'm being sold a more expensive procedure. I had never heard of the ds surgery before talking to the surgeon, so I was just thinking all wl surgery is the same. But…

So in a nutshell Before liquid diet 330 Day of surgery 319 09/19/11 CW 165 Plastics: brachio/fleur 5/21/2021 (weight after plastic, no idea lol) I am reaching my ten year mark in September! I just got rid of my excess tum and flying squirrels. I thought I'd stop here and see what's new and get some comfort and info. So DS is revised from the original, I have been doing fine with mine all this time but I wonder if I have to worry about anything now that I have the older procedure. How is everyone who had DS doing? Do I need to watch out for anything? Is there a plastic thread? I can't seem to find what I nee…

I have DS surgery scheduled for this Friday (4 days) and initially I was super excited. My main reason for doing this (besides weight loss) is to hopefully be off all diabetes meds including 2 types of insulin and 6 shots a day. My surgeon has said that he will discharge me from the hospital off all insulin, which I was ecstatic about. However during my pre-op visit with my PCP I was told that will definitely not be the case and if I follow that advice I will go into DKA and end up back in hospital. She went on to say I may never be off insulin despite the surgery and was generally kind but discouraging. I am now second guessing my decision to have surgery at all. D…

Between BILIOPANCREATIC DIVERSION WITH DUODENAL SWITCH VS SIPS... I have my consultation with my surgeon tomorrow and I really thought he performed SIPS but I just checked online and it doesn't specifically say SIPS or "loop" or anything. Just so I'm on the same page with him tomorrow, is one "better" than the other? I was sold on SIPS after my research. Thank you in advance.

So I didn’t have a good experience with communication with my surgical team. And I thought I was getting “resleeved” when I had my SIPs revision but my stomach wasn’t touched just the malabsorption piece was done. I’m kind of bummed because I really wanted a do-over and I’m not sure how successful just the malabsorption piece is. so back story I had sleeve done in 2014 day of surgery weight 265 I got down to 170 but it didn’t last long I started gaining weight and once covid hit I gained about 45lb in 2020 alone. I got up to 268 on the day of my revision (went all the way to 280 before I started liquid diet presurgery.) I’m about 2 weeks post and yes I’ve lost 11 lbs…

Hello everyone, After researching the various weight loss surgeries I have decided that the original duodenal switch operation is best in line with what I want in terms of weight loss. The problem is that I live in NY, and only the modified version is offered here. After doing research, I found Dr Keshishian in California, who seems to be very credible with alot of experience with the DS operation. However, I am trying to find a way to get insurance approval. I am currently on medicaid and it is highly unlikely that they would approve an out of state operation. I can afford private insurance, but am unsure of how I would go about getting the out of state approval tha…

Hey all, first time posting here and I've been dealing with this for months now. I got the duodenal switch about 7 or 8 years ago when I was about 16. Crazy young I know, and to this day I still question that decision and probably always will because of my age. I've had a great experience as far as weight loss goes, but as I've gotten older I've gotten increasingly worried about malnutrition/deficiencies developing over time. I'm religious about my supplements, and I literally got my bloodwork done earlier this week so I'm good about that. However, the anxiety about potential deficiencies that I feel like might go undetected in bloodwork (for instance I know B12 tests can…

Hi Everyone! I no longer will be able to run the DS Support group. If others want to do it as a group effort, we can definitely keep the meeting going. Otherwise, the meeting will no longer run, I just can't be there every Saturday and would need other people to help keep this going. Thanks all!

HW: 312 SW: 300 CW: 289 GW: 150 Hi Everyone! I had Gastric Sleeve back in 2014 then got pregnant almost a year later and here I am now getting the Traditional Duodenal Switch almost 7 years later. I am currently on the Pre-op diet and down 11lbs (11 days in) I have 3 more days to go I've been doing so good sticking to it. I'd love to hear your success stories of the Traditional Duodenal Switch. How much weight did you lose within the first 3 months? I have a friend that had it done over 4 years ago and she also got pregnant a few years later and has kept the weight off. Her start weight was very close to mine. Hope to hear some of your experiences.

Hi I have had DS REVISION surgery. I had a SADI which failed and i found i could literally eat whatever i want without any symptoms and weight rocketed. I visited my surgeon who understands that if all it took was a change of diet nobody would need WLS. I explained to him that I need something which, if i ate the wrong foods (either accidentally or by being gutty), something would give me a kick up the jacksy and remind me not to do it again. So he recommended the DS and advised, should I "test the waters" i will be on the loo within 30 mins and this will happen every time i do. Obviously im not planning to be naughty, but I was told the same thing with …

hi everyone the longer I wait for surgery the more odd questions keep coming up... so I’m hoping someone can be open with me and answer some or all of the questions ... If you didn’t know u had the surgery would you feel different to yourself physically? Meaning can you tell anything has been done. Do u feel weird? Once you’ve healed...does it feel like your missing part of your stomach and your intestines have been rearrange ? Either by comparing how you normally felt pre op or by if you touch your stomach does it feel weird? also any problems with sex or sleeping? I thought I read somewhere that to lay on your side you kind of had to scoop your side…

One month and one day since surgery and what a journey it has been. I hope this helps anyone that is or will go through this surgery. I also hope to be helped. my surgery went great, the issue was afterwards when I could not swallow liquids or medications. I was extremely nauseated. The doctor has to perform a EDG to place botox into my lower abdomen/ esophagus to relax the muscle. I had a balloon procedure years ago but that was short acting. The Botox worked almost instantly I was able to take my medication and sip liquids, while still on iv fluids. I was hospitalized for a week. Once I returned home I was in bed for another week. Still no real protein, m…

Hi all - I weigh 305lbs and my surgeon has recommended that I have either BPD/DS or SADI. I don’t have any comorbidities. It’s a center of excellence and he has extensive experience with both. I’m a physician, have read up extensively and feel like I have a good handle on the expected weight loss and complications. However I don’t have a good sense of the differences in lifestyle and food choices between the two procedures. Please, could those of you who have had these procedures help me understand: - What foods do you avoid? (Fatty foods? Carbs? Can you tolerate small amounts?) - Do you have diarrhea? - How many vitamins do you take? Have …

Hello everyone, This is my first time posting in a forum. After years of contemplating bariatric surgery and literally trying every diet and medication for weight loss, I had an appointment with a bariatric surgeon yesterday. I made no excuses, I thought of no what ifs, I just kept driving because if I started thinking twice, I was not going to make it. The surgeon was very nice and it seems (I researched him) that he got plenty of experience and operates at a center fort excellence designated hospital. I had already attended his seminar and now we were talking surgery. I am 5'3" and to my shame my weight went up to 279, the heaviest I have ever been in my …

Hello. I have read many threads with constipation being a problem after having wls. Many wls patients have stated they have been drinking plenty of water, taking fiber supplements and exercising and still have constipation. I am almost 2 months post op (DS) and been having constipation issues. Milk of magensia relieved my constipation but causes diarrhea. My nut suggested taking Miralax once a day with 1 Colace tablet. Is this safe? What are you guys doing to prevent constipation?

Im only day 5 post op from DS but I hate not knowing if what I'm feeling is normal or not. I get intense, often loud, rumbling of my stomach. Could this be gas still? Last night it was all night long, ever 10 minutes. I thought maybe it was hunger but so many people said they don't even feel hunger anymore. Should I just relax? Did others feel this? Thanks

Hey guys. I really need help. I am exactly one year post op. I haven’t been eating right at all since the surgery. I lost weight the first 9 months and have basically plateaued for the last three months. Abt 3-4 pounds down collectively. I lost 100 pounds and still have 35 to go to hit a normal bmi. I thought that I was just being lazy and that’s why I couldn’t get my eating habits under control. Since COVID-19 I’ve been home and paid all my attention to my health and eating habits. If I follow a strictly high Protein diet, I am so constipated I feel like I’m going to pass out from pain. If I do fruits and vegetables I get insanity gassy. I need to stay away from too muc…

When I had my duodenal switch on June 3 I was supposed to be in the hospital overnight and go home the next day. Well around 1am I started having horrible pains in my stomach. They rushed me to MRI and then to emergency surgery and had to have a section of my intestines removed. So I was in the hospital for 3 weeks with no visitors due to the covid19 numbers rising. Well now I am home and got all 50 of my staples out of my stomach. I got cut from my sternum to my belly button and on top of that I had 5 2 inch cuts from the laparoscopic surgery. It was all a me. Now to my paranoid questions. Do you poop alot when you poop? Seems like everytime I poop I go alot! I only take…

Hi there all, I was wondering about the extent of hair loss with the DS procedure as I have had a gastric bypass in the past that had to be reversed and with theBypass I lost a lot of hair although taking biotin and all vitamins. My assumption would be that since this is the surgery that seems to have the highest rate of malabsorption it will be worse.

I'd prefer answers from practicing post-op vegans or medical professionals and not conjecture and guesses, please. I am 17 years Post-Op and my family and I have started exploring moving to plant-based eating for overall health benefits. The question is: Can a DS patient successfully transition to plant-based eating or am I setting myself up for a lifetime of diarrhea, stomach issues, etc.? If I can go plant-based, what foods should I focus on/avoid? Thanks in advance.

So basically just the intestinal part of the DS surgery if that makes sense. I have my sleeve already in place since 2014 ? Curious about how recovery might go. My sleeve recovery was okay, nothing major but there were plenty of situations with the stomach that were challenging due to the extreme restriction at the beginning. Any thoughts, experiences, opinions?

Could use some insights from anyone who had a similar process/ experience: 6 years post VSG and 14 days post 2nd stage loop DS with a hiatal hernia repair. I’m currently on the soft food stage and have been eating on plan. Sometimes while eating I get an intense pressure behind my sternum- stops me dead in my tracks. It can be uncomfortable to very painful. It’s not like the restriction I felt following my original VSG. But it makes me not want to eat. Sometimes it occurs as a stand-alone, other times it is followed by a dull ache in my abdomen above my belly button. I’m not sure if it is just the healing process from the hernia repair (never had reflux or stricture/ pain…
