I would love to hear from some folks about your weight loss after surgery the first 60 or 90 days after your sleeve surgery. I need inspiration. I am on this liquid diet and surgery in 6 days!

Does anyone else feel ignored or isolated from people who don’t want to accept your choice to have WLS or don’t want to take the time to understand your reasonings? Do people feel ignored on here as well sometimes?

Any one have issues digesting lettuce? I am 9 months out and no matter what type of lettuce I try; it does not agree with me. Will I have to scratch lettuce off my menu forever?!

  4. Does anyone have tips on how to minimize the surgical scars after getting sleeved? How visible are the scars after they've healed?

  5. I got my surgery in December 2020, and even though I lost a lot of weight at the beginning, now it’s very, very slow. I am 151 now, but I’m scared I’ll stay there. I want to get to my goal of 135.

Has anyone gone with the Sleeve and experienced bad heartburn/GERD? Maybe you've wished you had gone with bypass instead? Tell me your sleeve/heartburn stories and what you've learned to avoid to calm the symptoms, or if you've had to switch to bypass... and are you glad you did?

Hi All, Didn't see an October Post Op thread so I figured I'd start one. I was sleeved on Oct. 17,2017. I had no complications, only pain I dealt with was the gas that was stuck in my rib/chest area for about 4 days. I didn't have any nausea or vomiting and have been doing great. Only frustrating thing is I hit a stall about 10 days ago and the scale hasn't moved yet. How's everyone doing?

  11. Hi y’all, I’m back for some support because I can feel mine waning so quickly it’s actually outpacing my weight loss. So today I got to see a friend for a second for the first time since November. (I’ve lost 48 lbs since then). She told me I looked “sickly” and “50 lbs is plenty” and that I was going to regret “butchering my body” in 10 years when I end up back where I started. She said all what I’ve done is undermined the hard work that people like her have put in to do it “the non cheaters way out.” I was actually stunned to hear those words uttered to me. I’m not trying to toot my own horn, but I’m nice to a fault, like I get told by people all the time I have no mean …

I met with my surgeon yesterday, went over everything, and we agreed on VGS. I was even able to do the pre-op chest XR while I was there at the hospital. Did two nutritional appointments today (I have to do 12). Feeling good! Luckily, I have had most of the other requirements, (the endoscopes, sleep study, bloodwork, elf, etc.) by coincidence done in the last few months. Psych eval is 4/16. The ball is rolling!! But......... I won’t be having my surgery until August-ish. I discussed with the surgeon my schedule (full time school, full time job, 3 kids, and hubby is in school also, planned vacation in July) and he said to wait, go on vacation, relax, get lots of sun, and t…

  13. I called the dr office to ask a question and when I told her dr cleared me to have non puréed food she was surprised and also I misunderstood and I was NOT supposed to have pasta or anything doughy and I had pasta and a burrito. She said this can cause a Bolis?? Now I am super nervous that I hurt myself. I don’t have any pain as of now but I am so anxious.

Hi folx, I am four months post-operation with gastric sleeve. Week before surgery, I was 383, today I am at 309. I have been hovering over 310 for about three weeks now. I started working with a trainer lifting about three weeks ago. I think I could do more cardio, but I probably get one or two days in a week walking. I consume about 1250-1500 calories a day...is that too much? I could really use your advice. Roy

You bet! At 7 years post op, it’s definitely harder. I’m up 35 pounds from my goal weight I maintained for quite a few years. But life happened, and I went back to old habits. As time goes on after surgery, the easier it is to overeat. I’m happy to say I’m back on track again! And let me tell you, eating less and eating protein and lots of fiber has really brought my sleeve restriction back! I’m down 5 pounds and am already feeling physically better. Guys, don’t ignore weight gain after maintenance. You’ll have some “bounce” weight where your body wants to be, and that’s completely normal. But any gain after that take seriously. I was doing the “It’s only 10 pound…

Hello, my name is Sabrena, I'm new here. I had the sleeve done on 2/25/21 so this coming thurs, I'll be 3 weeks post-op & down 29 pounds from date of surgery. The first two weeks used to hurt to sip on fluids especially if I sipped too much or just sipping on protein shakes which my nutritionist said was normal. Now, I'm able to take bigger sips (by accident) and noticed I have no pain at all doing so & able to chug down those 1oz cups without any problems in no time at all as well! Is that normal?? Also, I still cant get in the 800 calories they keep telling me I need to get in. I plate a half cup of pureed fish or chicken & 1/4 cup of puree veggies & can…

On my way to the hospital friends, looking forward to a successful surgery and recovery. I hope to talk to you guys sometime later. Thanks for all your support Mark

  21. Greetings everyone. I have had a long journey, I've been overweight and obese most of my life. I was 6ft1 and over 300lbs in my late teens and successfully dropped down into the 190's. Eventually I got older, got married and started working night shifts...here I am again! No health issues, but I want it to stay that way, the funny thing is, I look down and move around and still feel that I'm thin, opposite of most, pictures tell another story, haha! I joined a paid, doctor lead weight loss program in 2019 that went alright, I didn't lose much though and easily gained it back. One of the recommendations coming out of that was surgery. Where I live there is a long p…

  25. Started by Mark P3,

Haven’t been able to eat much, not much of an appetite but I know I’ll eventually have one. My blood sugars slowly came down last night which is good. Still dealing with some gas discomfort but I’m going to walk it off. I did notice I had some swelling around the incisions and was wondering if anyone else had the same. Also if you guys can let me know what I’m looking for as far as weight loss in the first month. Currently 247 Thanks

So I have been trying to get approved for surgery for almost a year. I finally got clearance from insurance about a week ago and am scheduled for VSG 4/5. Preop starts on 3/29, in which its all liquid and one protein shake a day. I am excited but my anxiety is starting to skyrocket. I have bad discs in my back and am off all meds for it, so I feel terrible. Then about 2 weeks ago I was silly and had a "mini face lift" where they use threads to tighten and my mouth doesn't open very far. I hope that doesn't interfere with the scope and surgery. That combined with the preop and recovery time, has got me feeling all sorts of nervous! I also didn't take much time off work…

Hi friends I’m about 8 hours post op. My blood sugar was 126 right before surgery and now they have to give me insulin because my sugars are in the 160’s all day. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue and did it resolve? Makes me nervous because I was hoping the surgery will help improve my diabetes not hurt them. Thanks again PS gas pain is no joke.

How soon after getting the sleeve done is traveling safe? My surgery is scheduled in June (unless someone cancels and I can get in earlier!) and we have a graduation trip planned for my child in July which will require a 2 hour drive. We have rented a small house for four days in an area with lots of hiking. Based on what I have heard, I understand that long, strenuous hikes are likely not going to be a good idea. So, we are currently planning some short day trips to the surrounding trails with flat surfaces/terrain which will still allow us to see some of the beautiful sites in the area. I talked to my husband about postponing my surgery, but, he knows how long I have w…

It will be 4 weeks Friday that my niece had gastric sleeve in Tijuana Mexico. We watched the video and the surgery went well.. She has not been able to keep anything down. Throwing up black nasty stuff and poop is black as well...Been to the ER twice and they ran , all kinds of test on her, find nothing... She is weak and dizzy and not getting better. The doctor in Mexico keep saying your body has to adapt...I get that but not able to even keep water down...Anyone else experiencing these symptoms?

Hi Everyone I am one month post op today (3/23/21) from my laparoscopic VSG surgery. Everything is going fine. I was a low BMI patient and my weightloss seems to be in the normal range with a -19 lb loss in the month so far. I am eating soft foods now and getting my 64oz of liquid in. My incisions have healed fine. However, a few days ago i started having intense pain about 2 inches above my belly button. Its continuous and very tender to the touch. It feels like a very painful bruise or a sore muscle. Has anyone experienced this? Its hard for me to wear my usual leggings because it sits right where that pain is. I was able to sleep on my stomach soon after surgery b…

  33. Started by gabbyd,

Hey all. I had my sleeve 3/18. I am 3 days post op and in excruciating pain. Particularly one incision where they put the staple gun in me and pulled out my excess stomach. The doc said they put a suture in my abdomen so I don’t get a hernia and this seems to be the cause of my pain. It literally hurts to sit, stand, squat, wipe, etc. is anyone else experiencing this intense level of pain from their suture/incision site? It is almost debilitating and I am contemplating callin my dr first thing in the am or going to the Er.

  34. Sorry, just excited. Just finished two weeks post op and dr said I don’t have to do purée anymore as long as I take it super slow and easy. I am soooo glad cause I hated that stage worse than liquids. Anyone have any other super soft and moist recipes? I haven’t even checked my book yet I just came home and made a chicken breast In the instapot first thing. Lol

  35. My family went out to dinner the other night and I felt so jealous that they could. I still am eating the exact same meal every single time I eat. I've spent the last month or so like this because I just can't find meals that work for both my son and I together. So he eats what he eats, and I make my little meal in the microwave every day. I finally got up the courage to ask my family to go out to eat a couple weeks back with my son and I, and hated every minute of it. Felt like I wanted to cry the entire time because every meal I looked at was breaded chicken, burgers, pasta and seafood (of which I despise.) The only other thing that I could eat was…

Even though it seemed like forever I completed all of my requirements in 4 weeks. I had a huge list of things to do, but I got them done. Waiting on insurance approval. I am ready to get this process moving along! Was anyone else able to get the requirements done fairly quickly, but still have to wait weeks for insurance approval?

So, I had hernia repair with my sleeve. Today is about 12 days out lifted 45 pound son onto swing about 3 times today. Now I have a slight pain so I'm totally freaking out. It's subtle but how do I know if I did something bad????

Tomorrow I will be 12 weeks post op gastric sleeve and I've only lost 40 lbs. I don't eat what I'm not supposed to, so I don't understand why I'm not loosing as fast. My appointment with Dr. is in April, and at the 2 week appointment he said I should be around 60lb loss by April. I will admit that exercising is my biggest struggle. I feel so frustrated [emoji24]

Hi all, Has anyone else experienced nausea while on liquid diet? I'm on day 12 of my liquid diet and suddenly feel very nauseated. I've been keeping up with my protein shakes, having broths, and SF jello/popcicles and at least 64 oz per day. Also, I've experienced the worst constipation I've ever experienced. I'm going to email my team but wondering if anyone else experienced any of this. Plus side, surgery is Monday! YAY

  40. I only lost 25lbs with the sleeve. Now because of problems with my sleeve my Dr is doing a bypass on the 6th of April. I have about 50lbs of extra weight.

  41. Hello all, I'm having surgery in early April. I'm on Amazon looking at food scales. Any tips for a good type of scale? I see some that have bowls attached. Not sure which kind is more helpful. Also. Were any other supplies helpful during the first few weeks of recovery? I don't want to spend money on a lot of stuff that I will only use a few times. But, I will be home alone recovering and do want supplies that will be worth the money. Thanks!

Hello, I am new to this site. I am 48 years old, female, 5'2 and current weight is 216. My official weight at doctor's office was 221, however I am ashamed to say that when I knew I was approved, I ate any/everything and my highest was 226. This crazy pre-op liquid diet helped me lose 10 lbs! Side note: Fairlife has the best testing shakes that fit into my pre-op criteria. They are so tasty and do not tasty "diet". My surgery is tomorrow 3/23 and I am a little nervous but I guess more excited. Tomorrow morning I will ask my daughter to take pictures of me from all angles so that I can compare as I lose weight.

  44. Tommorow will be my third week post op.I start soft foods tomorrow. The problem is I’ve been having trouble eating. Every time I stand up I get so dizzy, and I’m forgetting things a lot.I’ve been taking my vitamins; I don’t know what to eat because I have no appetite ( I know this is normal). Today I tried to heat up some canned chicken noodle soup ( without the noodles) and I was instantly repulsed by it . Even yogurt I have no interest in eating. I’m just sticking to 2 protein shakes a day and sometimes even less. I don’t even know what I’ll eat on soft foods because I don’t eat eggs or tuna. Any advice?

  46. Started by lunadreams,

Hi, I have PCOS (as well as Type II diabetes and hypertension), with a BMI of just over 35. The surgeon recommended the sleeve for me. I hear some say bypass is better for PCOS, but I don't really want to do that, because of the risks. My fear, though, is not losing weight with the sleeve because of my PCOS, or hunger coming back to the extent that I end up going through all of this, only to gain back whatever weight I lose. Also, I've heard that most people end up losing 50% of excess weight. Does that mean initially, or after the honeymoon period when many people gain some back?

  47. Started by 171MaxH,

I had my gastric sleeve surgery ten days ago. Was having difficulty tolerating water. Today was my first followup with my doctor. He gave me the greenlight to proceed with soft food phase (a week earlier than the expected date on the center's program). I managed to eat some of the food suggested (e.g. chicken salad for lunch, tuna salad and soft veggies for dinner) with absolutely no discomfort nor feeling of any restriction. I only had to stop to stay within 2 oz but I could probably eat twice of three times as much as that amount. I feel hunger pains and I can drink the 11 oz premier protein within a few minutes. I thought the whole point of the surgery is to feel …

  48. Started by Canrue,

Does this ever really happen? I'll be honest, I'm tired of the "restriction" 2+ yrs out. What I mean is I hate feeling full and I always have, even pre op. I didn't think this would affect me so much. Even when I eat til satisfaction only, it's like the food eventually stretches and fullness ensues and takes a long time to "digest." Now I just lean on things like shrimp, salad, eggs that don't cause much of the sensation. Sounds crazy but am I the only one that can't get used to the restriction. Will it ever go away? Has it ever gone away for anyone? Sure I can eat good amts of unhealthy foods but that's not even what I'm looking for. Is my health better? No. …

Holy cow. I cannot even believe how slow this has gotten to be. My first 65 pounds basically melted off, I did what the dr told me to do and the pounds just came off. I am no longer in a stall, I mean its coming off, but good lord is it ever slow! I am following my program to the letter. Water, protein, macros, exercise, sleep and patience but that last one is tough........we went to Arizona the beginning of March and I did not have a scale with me. I was so flipping proud of myself. No alcohol at all, I didn't cheat on garbage food, we hiked ALOT, we swam a lot, I was so excited to get home and get on the scale and I only lost 3 pounds I don't know how …

Has anyone tried the 10-day detox diet, the blood sugar solution by Dr. Mark Hyman? I am definitely addicted to sugar even after having gastric sleeve surgery (1 1/2yrs ago). I want to try this 10 day detox (no sugar, caffeine, dairy, grains) but want to make sure it's safe for me. It recommends taking some supplements- not sure about them as a person with the sleeve. Any thoughts or experiences?
