Hello all! I’m Emily, and this is my very first post on this forum. My mom introduced the site to me last month after she had her gastric sleeve, and I just recently had mine; 2 days ago to be exact. I’m still in a massive amount of shock that I actually did this for myself. I’m adjusting pretty well, and thankfully I haven’t had protein shakes taste too funky yet. I just wanted to introduce myself. I hope all of you have a wonderful day! :)

Hi everybody! First, I want to introduce myself. My name is Ammaris, I live in beautiful southwest Florida, and I'm having the sleeve gastrectomy on March 31st. I'm nervous and excited! So I'm in a predicament. Back in September, I scheduled a camping trip to Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park for April 16-18. The biggest thing for me is that it's an International Dark Association park and I want to get some beautiful starry sky pictures. I invited my parents and the plans were for my parents to come with their RV. Then I decided that I wanted to bring my pup, but I'd have to sleep in a tent or on a bed in my Jeep since my parents don't want any dogs in their RV. Now t…

One week from today I will continue on my phase 5 journey with food but adding another ounce to my intake making it 4oz. So after eating real protein for a few weeks now I wonder if anyone else is dealing with the mindfulness issue of chewing, and choosing and thinking so much about food. I’m allowed 3oz. Per meal 3x a day. No breads, pasta, rice basically no carbs and some fresh veggies. No fruits, sugars, juices. And then I have to chew my protein til it’s the consistency of applesauce and taking about a half hour to eat it. I’m still supplementing protein, taking vitamins 3x a day etc etc you get the picture. I feel so overwhelmed with all the thinking I have to do ab…

Hi everyone! I’m getting sleeved on the 22nd of March and I’m getting so excited! I have a question though: has anyone done heavy weightlifting (Olympic) or powerlifting after they’ve had a VSG? I’m keen to know when you were able to train with reasonable weights and if you did any light bodyweight training earlier during recovery? cheers!

My abdomen area seems swollen(Could be from trauma).I don't think I have anymore gas right now. I have no pain or desire to eat at this point. If this is as bad as it gets I am amazed! Did anyone else have swelling or bloating in the abdomen area? I haven't weighed yet but feel I am retaining water. Any advice is appreciated. I have follow up with my surgeon on Tuesday. Thanks for any input.

I have been attempting to get gastric sleeve surgery since last year. I was approved and due to have it December 14th....I received a call on December 11 stating my surgery was canceled due to the Covid surge here in Los Angeles (after doing EVERYTHING including liquid diet ? and paid for my surgery as well). I ended up finding a surgeon in Las Vegas who would do it and I WAS scheduled for next week (the 24th) HOWEVER Los Angeles hospitals just open back up so I’m opting to have it here with my team as originally planned! (CRAZINESS) Surgery date is now March 22nd 2021!! I can’t wait! SW/CW: 260 GW: 190 I’m 5’9

Hello all, I am scheduled for the sleeve surgery in April. I live alone and my family is in another state. Due to COVID, I will most likely be home alone recovering from surgery starting the day after I'm released from the hospital. (My brother will be with me on surgery day and the next day whn I should be released from the hospital. The following day he returns to work.) Were any of you recovering home alone? What was that experience like for you? What did you need help with? Is this a crazy plan? Thanks!

Good morning everyone! I think everyone would agree, the two week pre-op diet and post-op diet requirements are TOUGH! Especially if you haven’t found a protein shake that you actually like. I want to share info about a company I found that has great options! Ideal Fit ( idealfit.com ) offers many options of whey protein isolate shakes and clear fruity drinks. I have tried several flavors and LOVE having a choice! Protein shake burn-out can happen so easily! They ship quickly and have 50% off sales all the time. Check out these flavors: caramel mocha birthday cake vanilla) chocolate brownie cookies and cream cold brew coffee wh…

My surgery was on the 23rd and I just got home, so I only needed one night in the hospital. As of today my pain and nausea have been well controlled and I have been able to get in 4 ounces of liquid about every 30 minutes. my cute little banana tummy is being a total champ! this is probably helped by my surgeon's aggressive anti-inflammation protocol, so thank you Dr.! The most annoying thing right now is that when the tube down my throat during surgery it scrapped my uvula (the dangling thing at the back of the throat) so it's now all swollen and bruised and it feels like I have a big skin flap in my throat. Could be worse, so I'm not complaining. How about the re…

I purchased a multivitamin off the recommended vitamins list provided by my program; I went with Bariatric Advantage Chewable Advanced Multi EA™ (Strawberry). I am having a hard time imagining chewing and getting them down post-surgery because the vitamin smell they have already yucks me out a bit. When did others start taking their bariatric vitamins and how did it go for you? Did you have more success with chewable, or pill form? Was it trial and error to find a vitamin that worked for you?

I’m scheduled for the sleeve on March 12th. Woohoo ?. But my most recent weight loss attempt, I lost about 60 lbs from eating less than 1200 calories. One day I just gave in to everything in my freezer/pantry and ended up consuming over 4,000 calories in a night. I just couldn’t bring myself to stop since I had dieted for the prior 6 months strictly. The big question: is that possible after let’s say a year or two after the sleeve? How difficult is maintenance after a year or more with the sleeve? Have you been able to eat as much since before the sleeve?

Hello everyone! I’m glad to be a part of this group and look forward to sharing and hearing about everyone’s journey, whether it’s contemplating weight loss surgery, newly post op like myself, or those with years of experience. I feel there is value in learning from everyone. so for me, I have struggled my whole life with my weight. I have been up....and I’ve been down, but for me the weight always finds it’s way back to me. I know everyone has their own personal reason for having this procedure. My reason is more than just to lose weight. I have very significant spinal degeneration and have already had three spinal fusions on my low to middle back. Every surg…

I'm 6 days post op. I started the full liquid diet today. Had a keto fudgsicle was okay'd by my surgeon. About 10 min after, I started to feel light headed, flushed and heart racing. Yep.. dumping syndrome hit. Guess that's out. I'm struggling not to eat reg food. I want corn chips and cheese. 35 years of over eating, and eating junk when ever I wanted.. hard to adjust too. Anyone flub up and eat solids on the full fluid post op diet? And what happened??

Good afternoon! Had VSG December 2, 2019 - have since lost a total of 140 lbs. - with another 5lbs to goal weight - thankfully! In the last 5 months I’ve been experiencing ongoing back pain - especially when I’ve been on my feet a good amount throughout the day. I think my back doesn’t know how to adjust with all this weight loss? Have you noticed back pain since losing weight? If so, how are you finding relief?

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to all of this, and had my initial consult on February 5th. Obviously things were online because of covid, and I hadn't weighed myself in a long time because I used to do that at the gym. In my paperwork I wrote 340 (estimated) but when my home scale arrived I found out I was 370, considerably heavier than I used to be. My problem with weight loss has usually been keeping it off, not getting it off - I've gained and lost 50-65 pounds more than once. Since I weighed in then I'm now at 356. In my head I think well, gastric sleeve patients will lose up to 70% EBW on average, and if I can get down to 300ish by August, that 70% EBW loss will be…

FINALLY! Onederland! I can't remember the last time I didn't see a "2" as the first number on the scale. Seeing the "1" this weekend was just surreal. I think I must have stepped on and off the scale at least 10 times. What a motivator! I feel like I've accomplished the impossible and now ANYTHING is possible!! ~40 to go (I'd like to hit 50 just to have some wiggle room). For those who might be struggling after the first couple of months - Months 1-3 were EASY - weight just fell off. Month 4+, slowed A LOT (as in less than 8 a month) - Being able to eat pretty much anything I wanted without having an upset stomach didn't help. I was hoping to be under …

Well today is day 6 of the liquid diet and I have to say after the first couple of days it hasn't been that bad. My pre op diet was liquid only. I could have strained Cream of whatever soup. I didn't eat one of the SF popsicles until about day 4...WOW! Those are a game changer. I love those things! I have not had any kind of popsicle in over 30 years or more. On Monday I am going to drink water and eat popsicles and Jello, I am over the broth. I am also having the lap band taken out that has been in there for 15 years or so and thankful to get rid of that thing. Anyway less than 48 hours until surgery. I have stocked up on everything I can think of. I got some dry mouth…

Newbie here, booked for VSG on March 22nd. Just wondering if anyone has some success stories with the VSG while taking antidepressants/ antipsychotics/ lithium? Ive had extremely severe treatment resistant depression and gained over 30kg thanks to one particular medication. Fortunately we found an alternative option for that med but I’m still left on several meds that can affect my weight. I’ve now stabilised but the weight won’t budge no matter what I try at the moment so I’m a little nervous that I’ll go through this major operation with no good outcome. I’d love to hear from anyone else who struggles with their mental health- it can be such a lonely jour…

Soooo I kinda have flabby arms; had them before my surgery. I'm wondering if anyone lost that as they lost weight?? Did you do something to help with toning that area?? I will begin my soft food stage in a few days and have my first appt at that time. I was trying to wait before adding in workouts. I've just been walking for now. For me it's a big insecurity for me. I feel like it not something you can hide like loss skin on your tummy and legs. What are some things you guys did??

I have read so many different things about pre op diets. Mine was 7 days liquid with the last day being clear liquid. I am ok with it but seems a bit more than others have done and again less than some others. As long as you clean your belly out for the surgery . I get it and will follow my surgeons guidelines but I was just wondering why the big variances from doc to doc.

So, for the last few days I have been FREEZING. ⛄ I have never been cold ever. I wear shorts all winter, never wear a jacket unless it gets below 20 degrees out. Now I find myself sitting on the couch, and instead of tshirt and shorts like usual, i'm wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt, and i'm still cold! Is this normal? Does it ever go away? Does it get worse the more weight I lose? Just curious.

Well I was doing good there for awhile by getting down to 170.0 pounds when I weighed myself on December 16, 2020. Then I got all the way up to 175.4 on February 10, 2021, when I weighed myself that day. Today, I weighed myself and am now at 172.2 pounds. All I can say that COVID, regular work stress and work stress related to COVID did NOT help matters. Hoping with the warmer weather coming that I can shake some more weight off before I see the surgery team for 1 Year Appointment and Surgery Anniversary.

I had the sleeve and took omeprazole for about a year post op. I went off and had a great 3 years. This last year the pain of reflux and spasm has gone from mild to moderate to I am crying at 1 am unable to sleep. I kept my weight off (125 pounds) for 4 years but this last year I have regained about 15 or so. Is my weight gain the cause? I admit I was religiously off diet soda the first year or so but have slowly started drinking them again. Is it the soda? This last week has been unbearable. Should I try gaviscon or nexium? I have maintained my small meal small portion control. I blame weight gain to Covid, isolation, no gym and a sudden love of sandwiches (bread…

I am a bit more than 3 months post VSG and I just hit a total of 100 pounds lost! 42.4 lbs lost after surgery. I feel so fortunate to have had this surgery. I feel better in every way and am finally able to get control of my weight, which has plagued me my whole life. I still have 73.8 lbs to go to goal, but who is counting. ?

I had surgery Feb 29th. I think I am allergic to something. I Have two red stripes going down my stomach (one on the right and one on the left). Getting small red bumps around them as well. Very itchy. Anyone else have this happen? Post op is Thursday, unless it gets worse I am just waiting to see Dr then. Any insight is welcome. Just using cortisone cream to control itching for now.
