I’m curious to know from you guys what foods you have not been able to handle well since your surgery? I have discovered that my new stomach does not like meat of any kind. I love chicken and turkey and have eaten a lot of that my entire life, but now, my tummy does not like it. ☹️ I’m not referring to fried, because I do not eat fried foods. I’m referring to just baked or even chicken from the slow cooker. I chew it very well and take very small bites, so that is not the problem. It does not do it with any other food, just meat.

Hello, I’m brand new to this forum so forgive me if I post in the wrong place or anything. I got Lapband back in 2013, and due to some recent issues with the band and less-than-stellar results in general, I am looking into having a revision to the sleeve. Long story short, my band no longer holds fluid, so it’s essentially just a foreign object sitting in my body and providing no real use. However, I have some concerns when it comes to potentially switching to the sleeve... In all brutal honesty, I was/am guilty of “eating through” the band. At times, I would drink too much liquid during meals thus negating the point of the band (disclaimer: this is not w…

  3. I had vsg surgery a year ago April 20th. I am aware in the fluctuation of hormones due to surgery. What kinds of ways has this effected everyone's monthly? I'm experiencing a LOT more pain with cramping. So much so I almost went to the ER last month. I'm also noticing all pms symptoms seem to be a lot more severe. I'm a lot more tired, headaches, breast pain, etc. It's been a rough year lol. And it seems the more weight I lose the worse this all seems to get! Anyone else having similar issues? What has been your experience? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

I know this isn't directly related to wls, but this is my only "social media" outlet so i wanted to ask if anyone has had successful sessions of emdr while they have aphantasia-the inability to visualize mental imagery. I am considering emdr therapy for trauma and am afraid this would be a significant obstacle in my process. I have only recently begun researching emdr (like a week ago) and am reading some people's stories online that have had success but didn't know if anyone of u personally have experience with this? Thanks in advance and if posts like this aren't welcomed here I would happy to not post once aware of this expectation[emoji5]

  5. Hi guys. I'm over a month post op. I'm hating the sugary taste of protein shakes at this point but having trouble eating enough volumn of soft foods and when I do I get a weird tired yucky feel, not nausea but the only way I can think to describe it is GI and mental exhaustion. Anyone experience this? If so when does it get better and what helped you get through? I've started trying to notice my body signals and stop eating as soon as I feel the issues start and eating more frequently but it's harder to get my was fluids in in between. Andy advice from veterans appreciated.

  6. This is starting to get too real. Scheduled the surgery today for Jan 29th. Was told today he will be using the davinci robot!!!*(&($&%R% Little nervous to say the least. I'm having an umbilical hernia repaired and he is gonna do the sleeve while he is in there. Granted, if I didn't have the hernia, I probably wouldn't even entertain this sleeve idea, but I figure might as well take advantage of the two-fer. Has anyone else had the davinci robot for their sleeve, and had an umbilical hernia repaired at the same time?

Well here I am, sneaking around trying to hide from the stalls and #2 found me anyway. I am exercising my butt off (literally), and tracking my food, keeping my protein numbers high and calories around 750 tops, my water intake is around 90 ounces and stall number 2 found me and has kept me hostage for 7 days and counting. I intend on measuring myself this weekend in hopes of seeing inches be gone but holy hell that scale is about to go through the window. My husband thought he hid it from me (like I cannot open the bottom closet in the bathroom and move the towels around), but I still find it every morning and cuss it out under my breath. I am really bummed out …

Last week, I was so full of energy and pep and had so much energy that I couldn't sleep at night. This week, I am so very tired, even though I am sleeping at night. I don't know if it's because I walked two miles yesterday but today, I am so tired, taking a nap is all I can think of. I am hitting my protein and water goals (fully, 70+g of protein and around 78-80 oz of water) and am taking my vitamins. However, still tired. Also, everything, and I mean everything that I am eating is hitting wrong in my pouch and making me feel just blah. I am not sure what is going on. Has anyone else had "good" days and then a "bad" day with food before? I've not had anything sit wrong i…

I am 4 months post op and feel no restriction when I eat. Haven't felt any since surgery. I have only lost 35 pounds and I'm certain it's because of my eating habits. I feel like I have failed this surgery. I recognize I eat out of boredom. (I work from home and sit next to the kitchen) Is there anyone who is losing slow and also not making the best food choices? I need support and some advice. Maybe some encouragement. PLEASE!!!!!

Hi all, I'm new to this. My surgery date was 12/9, since then I have lost 45lbs, but feel nauseous all the time and dry heave all the time. I am now on nausea medication and the dr said if I can't get more liquid and nutrients in I could have to have a pic line put in and get an iv daily. I was getting around 40oz of liquid, but can only eat about a 1/2 cup total of cottage cheese, or soup a day. I also drink about half of a premier protein. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and if so any suggestions. The hardest part is to drink liquid while working.

  11. On Monday I get to start eating whole fruits, vegetables, and meats. I've already been eating chicken thighs that were not ground, but no other whole foods. I really despise protein drinks, but it's the only way I can get a good amount of protein in. How do y'all do it? I can't eat more than a half cup, and I feel uncomfortable when I eat that much, so I usually leave it at 1/4 to 1/3 cup. I want to eat veggies, a banana, an orange, but if I fill up on any one of those, there's no room for protein, and if I eat the protein first, there's no room for anything else. I'm seeing the dietician on Monday, and I hope she'll have some good suggestions, and I welcome any advice y…

I'm at the edge of depression. I had surgery at the end of 2018; my progress was slow, but steady. I even got brave and got new clothes to fit my smaller size. Cut to now... I've gained back a lot of the weight I've lost. I feel like a failure. I go from regretting having surgery (why did I mutilate myself if I just ended up here again?) to feeling powerless, angry, and depressed. Mostly, I feel lost. Just don't know what to do now. Or trust anything. :(

Will I be able to have a cocktail at a wedding or celebration? Will I be sick after surgery? Looking forward to meal prepping but scared I will mess up. My head is spinning! Fear and nervous, is it normal?

  20. I have had constant soreness/pain right below my sternum (where the pouch should be) and it hurts when I move, sit, stand, walk - anything. It feels like someone kicked the crap out of me in that spot. I can get liquids down but I stopped foods (doctor cleared me for soft foods) because it hurts. I called the on call doctor and all he told me was to go to the ER if it worsens. If I do that I’ll probably be there all weekend and I’d like to avoid the covid stuff is possible. Is this normal? Will it go away? Has anyone experienced this? Please help me out!

  21. So, I posted previously that I was having a hard time getting all my protein and water in. That is still kind of true but at day 7, it's like I turned a corner. I can drink normally (not a gulp, but not a tiny sip like before) and I can get in 1.5 oz of food at a time (protein first, then fruit or veg, as per the diet) and an 8 oz shake so I can get closer to my protein goal. I am terrified of stretching my sleeve out because I can drink more and I can get more at day 10. I do 8 oz of protein shake before it gives me 42g of protein in one go. And NONE of my tastes have changed and nothing has "sat" wrong with me. I have tried pureed fruits (baby food), sugar free popsicle…

Hi everyone. Just reading through several posts how people struggle to eat after WLS whereas I'm absolutely fine with everything. I'm 6 weeks out now and lost almost 26lbs since my highest weight. Now to the main point.. I read people eating 500- 600 cal a day. I count each and every calorie I take in and land between 800-1000 cal a day with 1.5 ltr fluids. I take 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. Without them I can't manage my 90g of protein daily. This is the amount my program suggests. Even if I would take protein shake only as 3 meals it will still make 600cal. How does a 500-600 cal a day meal plan look like? It would be really helpful if someone could share their plan. I…

I had the sleeve 4.5 years ago. For the past couple of years my teeth have gone down hill DRASTICALLY. I have been in and out of the dentist chair more times than I care to count. I just went for my 6 month cleaning this morning and I have 14 cavities. I had 4 the last time they saw me and now another 10 are popping up. I've never had the best teeth around but before surgery I would get a clean bill of dentistry health at every cleaning. No cavities for YEARS. Anyhow, the dentist is suggesting using Xylitol products (as many as I can consume in the day she said lol) I have used Xylitol tablets that you stick between your gum/cheek. But she's telling me …

I think that might be too much weight to lose. I was more looking to lose about 20lbs. max. Just here for some advise on weather I should go forth with it or not? Cost is not an issue because my insurance will cover it. I would like advise on real people who has been through the experience. Tia.

Hi all! Looking for any good tips and tricks to start back losing pounds. My surgery date was 10/7/20. I am 143 and my goal is 128 by May 2021. I ate small amounts of about everything over the holidays and drank my fair share of wine/liquor. I was able to maintain my weight in December so I didn’t gain but no loss I am back to eating much fewer carbs and trying to get my water and protein in properly. Don’t scream at this part— I also take phentermine so it can take any hunger feelings away. I haven’t had any negative side effects from it before and none this time as well. I only plan to use it to help get to my goal.

  36. I an new to the forum and I have decided to have the gastric sleeve. My concern is that I originally had a lap band placed 14 years ago. I lost 80 pounds then I got pregnant with my third child. After his birth, the band never worked correctly again. I ended up having it surgically removed in 2011. I used Dr Nirmal Jayaseelan to remove my band but he is pretty far away from Nacogdoches, Tx. I am looking for someone closer to home to perform the procedure and am wondering if my failed band surgery will be a problem in regards to having this procedure. Any thoughts?

Like others, my protein goal is 60g. Today is only my second day of purées but I got in 24g. The nutritionist instructed me to try to eat “mini” meals every 3 hours, and a protein shake in between to help increase it. They are 30g but I don’t hardly drink the entire thing. I tried to eat the every 3 hours but I can’t really tolerate more than 1-1.5 oz. I made some refried bean purée and ricotta bake, added some Isopure unflavored protein powder to up the protein count. I tried to eat an egg today but only ate about 1/4 because it just felt weird and stuck in there. Though I had egg salad purée and did okay. Any suggestions? Am I missing something? I fe…

I am a teacher and wondering if I should try to squeeze the surgery into spring break and take that time to recover or wait until summer when I will have more than enough time to recover. Currently we are doing distance learning which isn't physically demanding, however, if we are to return to the classroom, I am worried that from so few calories, I might feel weak or tired. I know how hard it is to restrict calories with a normal sized stomach that I can't imagine functioning normally at work on so few calories. I could be totally wrong though. Any insight w…

Hello, I know I posted yesterday that I am going thru a MTF for my process. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and what I can expect. I do know that the Monthly Initial is limited to only 8 per due to Covid and we are not able to bring anyone with us. My Dr said that they get everything gathered up in a "nice package" that way when all done there is nothing holding back the surgery. What can I expect? I have other additional medical conditions that qualify me for the insurance coverage. Any information or insight is GREATLY appreciated. NOTE: ** Sorry...Military Treatment Facility...
