I have found in previous diets and lifestyle changes that I do better if I have something else new to focus on as well that’s not stressful for me. For example, I was able to lose 50lbs and do a triathlon a year after I had my son because weight loss wasn’t my primary thought at that time, my new baby was. But things that are too stressful and occupy too much time sabotage me. For example, I gained back the 50lbs and then some after I started back to college full time. So I was thinking of adopting a puppy after my surgery (like 6 weeks after so I’ve healed) to keep me occupied but not stressed out. It’d also give me a reason to be more active. I think it’d also be good f…

Hi. I'm 9 weeks out of WLS now. Lost 15 kg since my highest weight. I have a question about apple cider vinegar post surgery.. was reading about all the benefits it has. Is it safe to take apple cider vinegar at this stage? What about the apple cider vinegar gunmies "Goli". Really hyping everywhere nowadays. Any experiences? Thanks in advance x

Hello, I have been a lurker here for awhile and appreciate everyone's insight. I had VSG surgery on 1-19-21, so 9 days ago. Things have been going really well for the most part. I'm getting over 100 ounces of hydration daily and 60-75 g of protein. Yesterday afternoon I started not feeling great. Run down, tired, a little light headed. Today I've felt bad pretty much all day, and I noticed that my left shoulder has started to hurt. I did not have any of that pain right after surgery, which I know is common. I do not have a fever, but my stomach feels sick. I have taken Zofran and it hasn't helped much. I'm curious on anyone's thoughts on my situation.

It’s been six weeks since I had my surgery and I went from 279 down to 250. For the past three days, I have not felt a “restriction” or that full feeling. What’s going on? I haven’t stretched my pouch have I? Should I do a pouch reset since I’m not feeling full?

Sorry, warning of embarrassment ahead. I am day 25 post surgery and all has gone pretty well. The only issue I have is a huge increase of wind, with no smell at all, but in large amounts at a time. I can rival hubby and win hands down!! Is this normal for anyone else? I don't have belly pain, and I eat very slowly and chew everything to a paste. The food consumed is on a teaspoon and I don't use a straw to drink. I've stayes away from wind causing foods, onions, cabbage, beans etc and eat a very rounded and healthy diet. The weight is coming off as expected, and everything else is good (with the exception of number twos, once a week only). Does anyone else suffe…

I’ve been thinking about having wls for years but only started pursuing it in the last few months. I was approved yesterday for a gastric sleeve! I’m paying out of pocket so it was easier for me to qualify but I didn’t expect this process to be so quick. I was originally hoping to get it done this summer but my doctor was shocked I wanted to wait so long and we decided to have it done spring break (I’m a teacher so I wanted a time I wouldn’t have to take any sick days). The nurse is supposed to call me this week for sure to book it and set up the payment plan. It’s kind of scary that it’s going so fast. I was expecting at least a 6 month process between asking my doctor a…

I had my sleeve done 8 months ago. Im maintaing weight now. I'm ok with it. I could go another 20. To be realistic, I understand the last few pounds are the hardest. But in my mind it's a protective fat layer in case i become sickly for some reason. I do not want to look anorexic. My appetit come back for about 2 months. I watched what I ate and excersized Daily. As of now im a bit concerned. I hope to get some in put on this matter.. My appetite in the past few weeks is gone! I have to force my self to eat and when I do. I'm very nauseous. What is going on??. Like I said hunger came on full force now all a sudden not hungrey and nausea when I do eat. What's your th…

Anyone have GERD before gastric sleeve that got better with the sleeve? Or reflux that got worse? My doctor said I’m a better fit for the sleeve despite my reflux problems and I’m more comfortable with it too, I’m just worried about having more reflux problems afterwards. I’d always read that you weren’t supposed to get a sleeve if you had preexisting reflux problems.

Gastric Sleeve on 2/5/2021. This decision has been a year in the making. I read that others have anxiety as they approach their date (not that there's anything wrong with that) but there are few other decisions I've made in my life that I have been more at peace with. I have looked at this experience as a second chance: a second chance to become the best version of myself; a 2nd chance to forever change my relationship with food; a 2nd chance to no longer sit on the sidelines but rather to get in the game and go on the adventures in which my obesity has prevented me from experiencing. This seems to be an amazing community and look forward to sharing more about my…

Hey Guys, I am newly posting but have been reading along since last year. I got sleeved on March 4th, 2020. The day I got the surgery the hospital I was in had 2 covid cases, and then the city shut down. I haven't been to a support group meeting (obviously because covid) but thank you all for your post they have been my support since. I just wanted to check in with anyone else that may have had the surgery in March to see how you are doing? I have been feeling a bit depressed lately. I don't know if it's from the pandemic or the slowing of my progress or a combination of all. I have lost a total of 70 lbs since March but I haven't lost anything for the past 2 mo…

  15. Just wondering: For those who had a sleeve done and have a physically demanding job that involves lifting/ patient care activities how long you were off after surgery?

The protein shakes are making me gag! So nauseous when I try to drink protein shakes and protein powder. Anyone else have suggestions to get protein?? Also can I eat purée bananas? I had low potassium level and ended up staying in the hospital 2 extra days and got 7 iv doses of potassium.

  17. So this coming Friday is approaching, and started the 2 week preop diet last week to shrink my liver, AND ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL!!! Apparently when they say as much non-starchy vegies as you want, they dont mean a whole bowl of uncooked baby carrots as they partially obstructed my bowell. BIG TIME PAIN for two days. Not a good start to this for sure. Good thing was i got a good look at the hospital. :-) Has this happenned to anyone else? Also, would it kill me to have one piece of pizza this week?

So my surgery is next week. I have done a lot of research and watching vlogs.. EVERYONE drinks protein shakes post-op. So when I asked my nutritionist about what type of protein shake I should be having.. like what carb content, protein etc. She advised against it as it could cause complications such as heart palpitations. I think that's weird..... anyone heard about this? Should I just ignore?

Hi, I was sleeved on 12/22/20. I’m just now finishing up my soft food stage and will be slowly (and nervously) heading back into regular foods next week. Any tips? Also any thoughts on what kind of diet is best for early post-op sleeve patients (keto, paleo, normal low carb diet) Thanks!

This morning I was putting together my end of the month list of goodies I need to purchase. Normally it includes my supplements and Tylenol along with all the other crap that ends up costing an arm and a leg. I realized I haven't ordered Tylenol for a long time and I checked on my amazon list (I live in the middle of nowhere and they carry the powdered Tylenol and I found I really like that better than the capsules) and I have only ordered that one time since surgery! I used to take Tylenol around the clock for back aches, knee issues and headaches along with NSAISDS and other prescription meds and now I am only taking my thyroid med, my protonics, and vitamins!!! I had RNY 1/15. Everything is going great - it amazes me I have no pain whatsoever and am already exercising (walking) and basically getting the hang of the post op diet. I’m so confused though- I eat that soup or yogurt (4oz) and feel no significant fullness. I hear others can barely get through a few bites. Any thoughts? I am losing steadily so... something is working!

Hi. I'm one week out. Doing good hitting protein/hydration. I fell well and am in good spirits. I'm doing my sips. I'm allowed yogurt/pudding on my liquid diet right now but I seriously get pain from it. Even the smallest amounts liquified in my mouth cause pain almost right after swallowing. I've even tried watering down yogurt with almond milk. I also noticed that with the premier protein shakes I have to let the sips almost run down my throat rather than swallowing but not the fairlife, those I can actually swallow because the consistency is different. Really only water and Gatorade have been going down without much pain. Anyway, I am not sure if I had a hernia …

Greetings all, I have been off this board for some time now, but I have come back because I need support. I lost 110 lbs with the gastric sleeve surgery in March 2019 and was doing so great until the pandemic started last March. Before I was restricted to the home office I was doing so well, I was working out every day at the company gym during lunch and I was careful about what I ate. Since then, my workouts have all but ceased, I may squeeze in a cardio session about once a week now. My eating habits are still restricted by the sleeve, but I have been eating things that get through easily, many sweets, high fat and high salt foods have been making their way int…

sorry for the long thread. Hi all. I’m a newbie. Thought I share my story and hope to get some helpful ideas on pain management. I had the gastric sleeve done on 1/11/2021. So excited and everything seems to go smoothly. I have rheumatoid arthritis. So I was dealing with the gas pains and arthritis pains. Near the end of the week I started to notice pain in the major incision. It was red, warm, and tender, but I had no fever. My wife researched and she found a site said it could be just the healing process. The pain became more constant. No matter if I was moving or just laying down. I had a fallow up appointment on Tuesday so I figured I would bring up the issue…

  35. Disclaimer: this is a long-winded post and could possibly be triggering for some ppl. As i watched tons..and i means TONS..of youtube videos during my "research" period pre op I heard lots of ppl mention the emotional and mental part of this journey post op. I gathered from those videos that i would probably be dealing with past trauma that needs healing as I lose the weight..uhhh i had no clue though to expect THIS! Does anyone else feel like as the pounds fall off, emotional scars are uncovered and smack u in the face randomly? I'm all about healing and psychology so I'm down for the ride but whew! I had a panic attack today and have cried all damn day, not knowing…

  37. Hello! How did you prepare for life after surgery? Do you meal prep? What were your workouts like before surgery and what are they like after? Do you do a combination of strength and cardio or do you focus on one? I’m trying to find my footing and I’m curious what your experiences have been.

Hi all! 26yr old male here. I was sleeved 01/07/2021. Pre op diet weight was 296lbs, surgery day weight was 282 lbs, and I’m currently at 262 lbs. I knew this would be hard but I didn’t know it would be THIS hard...I am struggling so bad emotionally - I never realized what a terrible relationship I had with food. I miss stuffing my face so much - and feel so lost without a constant supply of food to stuff in my face. I feel like I’m in a phase right now of “what have I done???”...I weigh myself and I’m happy with the results but then the day goes along and I find myself getting depressed that I can’t eat as I want...then I have to remind myself why I did this and that eat…

Hey all, so I've been lurking for about a year, off and on and finally made an account once I received a surgery date. Backstory in a nutshell: This is not my first rodeo. Been on a bajillion diets and yo-yo'ed for too long. Had some success, some lasting years, but my Achilles heel is keeping it off. I like to exercise so mostly that part of the equation has not been a sticking point for me. I started my journey to WLS on Oct 2019. I wrapped up my insurance-required steps by April 2020 BUT initially had been doing so well on my own with losing that I thought perhaps I wouldn't even go the WLS route. Then covid happened and threw me off balance a bit, but I kept…

Hello, I’m a 30-something-year-old woman with a complicated health history. I have PCOS, Hashimoto’s disease and a few other problems. I decided last year to get gastric sleeve as I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. I have Anthem BCBS PPO and they say WLS is supported by my plan thankfully. I’ve started my 12-week behavioral group therapy course and I have my 3rd meeting in a few days. I fought having this kind of surgery as I thought I was cheating and honestly I was afraid of being judged. I needed to grow up it seems and see this for the helpful tool it is. I’m afraid but excited because I’m ready to live the life of my dreams. I have lofty hiking plans…

  43. Started by KellyMarie8288,

Hello. I'm getting sleeved tomorrow. I've read about body dysmorphia post-op, but wondering if anyone has had this before surgery. I wasn't always heavy, but put on about 100lbs over the last 15 years. However in my head I'm still the 120lb person I was. Don't get me wrong, I am aware of health issues, emotional stress, and physical and mental limitations that my larger size has imposed on me, but in my skin I think I am still the same. I occasionally will catch a view of myself in a mirror and be shocked by what I see and my denial kicks into overdrive. Is this a thing with anyone else? What happened to your self image post-op? Thank you all!

  44. Hi, my sleeve was going to happen 6 days ago but I had to reschedule as I was unsure if going under the knife during Covid was a good decision. I have postponed it to 21 Jan. However I am still in two minds. Any advice? I would love to hear from someone who has had it recently. The reason for my hesitation is when I spoke to the nurse for pre op, I asked her if this is good time(considering the pandemic), she said and I quote " after general anaesthesia, the body and organs will not work full on for a little while, and if I was to catch Covid on the ward (its a secure hospital but still there is a chance ) that my lungs won't be able to fight it as it would us…

Well, i am 6 weeks post op on Monday coming, I've noticed old habits are creeping back in and i find myself munching on slider foods, I can't seem to get all my fluids in or don't kniw what i can cook for myself that would be easy. Im eating slider foods such as crisps, chocos, cake and custards etc only because it's easier to grab and easy to eat. I really need to get back into it. 2 weeks and I've stayed the same weight :'(

  49. I had my sleeve surgery on 7/17 and since then my head just hasn't felt "right". It's hard to describe, I can still remember things & do crossword puzzles etc, I just feel a lot slower. I also get lightheaded if I turn my head too quickly. I know this is more common in those of us over 60 (I'm 65) so I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this?
