Hey. I am low BMI and am worried about getting extremely thin. Any testimonies? How much did you lose?

  2. Started by Kimmy28,

I had surgery on October 28th. I have lost 9 lbs. is that typical? I guess I’m being impatient and expected weight to drop off quickly. I am having trouble meeting a daily calorie goal. Any suggestions, would be very helpful!

Hello! Newbie here! I received my insurance approval a week ago. My pre-op appointment is on the 21st and I'm scheduled for surgery on Nov 6th. I have read hours upon hours of people's experience. I have devoured this site and others as well. I want to believe that I'm mentally ready for what's to come, but the reality is that I won't know if I am until I'm fully into the process. Thanks to all of your contributions to this site, I have a clear picture of the many possibilities. The gas pain, the incision sites, the stalls, the liquid stage, the emotional roller coasters... the list goes on and on. I'm praying for the best, but preparing myself for anything. A…

  6. I am almost a month out from my surgery and my brain seems to have no clue that most of my stomach is gone. I measure all my portions but it still looks so unsatisfactory. Then I’m stuffed to death after eating half a cup. I can’t seem to find a middle ground. Does this ever change? Will eating ever feel normal again?

  7. Started by Holodisplay,

Hello, I had surgery August 27, and I didn’t tell anyone . I didn’t want to hear any negativity. So now 9 weeks later, I’m back to work. I take my vitamins and prescriptions. I don’t exercise as much as I should. I eat between 55 -60 grams of protein. And that is hard to do. I drink 60 ounces water. I wait 30-45 minutes between eating and drinking. I have at least one shakes a day, and the rest is proteins bars , or chicken or other healthy proteins. I started at 300 pounds and am down 64 pounds. I get compliments and I feel like a fraud, or like I could be doing more. Anyone else fee like this any advice.

There are some days when my tank runs completely out of gas. Most days actually. I am in the purée stage. I am thinking maybe I need to add the genepro protein to all of my foods. I am have the MOST difficultly getting lots of water in. It’s like by the time I drink, it’s time to eat, and my stomach doesn’t have enough space for the water 20 minute later. I used to try to drink most my fluids at night but sometimes I fall asleep. I am taking the multivitamin daily. I try to go on 20 minute walks 3 days a week because I certainly don’t want to lose my stamina for exercise later. I am 156lbs. And I have stalled there for 2 weeks. I am 4 weeks post op. Anyone else feel…

Hi all, My surgeon has said my weight loss is too fast & I should increase my calories or decrease my activity. My nutritionist disagrees & says i shouldn't be forcing calories if its making me uncomfortable (it is)! I was 128kg when I started the LRD on 12th oct, 125kg on surgery day on19th oct & I'm now 114kg. So 14 kg in 26 days. Height 175cm. Does this seem familiar/ok to anyone else. I'm managing my protein & water quantities most days but do feel a little weak & tired still. Any advice/opinions would be welcome

  10. Started by valiemet,

I recently have been diagnosed with LPR. I wake up all night choking on acid. During the day I’m coughing and regurgitate. I’ve done all the recommendations like head propped up, no food 3 hours before bed, 80mg of omeprazole a day. It helps very little. Gastric surgeon says hiatal repair will fix and GI surgeon disagrees. Says I should do the Linx (not fda approved). Anyone else have this issue? I have gained some weight back, is that why this reflux is happening? Would it help to lose weight? Id love to be able to sleep through the night.

I’m only about a week and a half out, but I am so craving being able to chew something crunchy, my team does not want patients to eat raw Veg or fruit for at least 3 months. Any suggestions of how to cope? I was assuming I would have way more sugar cravings (though I have those too) just curious if others have experienced this and how they got through it. Thank you.

  12. Started by Bobbifaces,

I had my surgery last Thursday and I am on my liquid diet. I am constantly questioning if my sleeve is small enough. I am basing my food intake on protein as much as possible, but is it normal to get cravings? I didn’t think it was. I also can eat 1/4 c of food already. Everyone else I have heard about has like two bites and is really full. I’m just worried and unsure. I need to get healthier. I have already lost 9.2 lbs, and that is great! I just would hate for my sleeve to be too big and it to not be the tool it’s supposed to be to help me. I am not giving in to cravings and am following my diet. Any advice/ input would be appreciated.

What are your recent NSVs? I'm 11 days post op. And I have a couple NSVs: 1. My sister had a pool yesterday and she ordered pizza, wings and fries and I was not tempted by any of it! I was so worried about the food temptation, I almost canceled. 2. I meal prepped (first time ever) and brought my lunch and snack to the party. 3. I was comfortably able to tie my shoes while sitting in a chair. (Heeeeyyy) 4. I ran after small kids at a pool party.

  14. Hello. I am about 2 months away from having gastric sleeve surgery but I'm real scared of having problems swallowing. I haven't been able to normally swallow food without taking big swigs of water after every bite for 6 years now, sometimes even protein shakes go down slow, and I can't swallow pills at all. My doctors tell me that I need to be practicing eating without drinking, but I physically can't. So far my doctor had me do a barium swallow and didn't find any problems. Next I will be doing a more in depth swallow study, and then maybe they will look with a camera. Has anybody on here already had these kind of problems before having surgery. I'm not sure I could hand…

I am 4 almost 5 weeks post-op and started having pain on the right side of my abdomen. I have an area that is tender to the touch. The pain gets sharp in certain positions especially ones that require use of abdominal muscles. And also pain when bearing down. No indication of infection. No bulging. Any opinions or any one else have this experience?

Hello everyone. I'm 2 weeks post op and feeling great! I'm having a hard time drinking more that 2 bottles of water a day and I'm a little dehydrated. Any tricks to getting more water down?

  17. So, I have been contemplating bariatric surgery for about 10 years. Kept putting it off, but now I have to have hernia surgery. Doc said he can do both the hernia and the sleeve at the same time, so I'm thinking two-fer sounds like a good idea. I'm not looking forward to worrying about what I eat the rest of my life, but I know that it will be good for me, and the fact that he is already going to be rooting around inside, makes this a little bit easier of a choice. Is there anyone else in here who had both done at once?

  18. After having some yucky symptoms the past few months, I had a gastroscopy done and the results have come back that I have a hiatus hernia and mid gastric body stenosis... no GERD like I thought I might have. My surgeon who did my sleeve can’t see me until January so I don’t know what the treatment for these are and won’t know until I see him so just curious if others have had anything like this and what did you need to do about it?

Truth be told I shouldn’t be eating the things I’m eating anyways. Is this a blessing in disguise? Are there veterans out there successfully living with strictures? my stats surgery weight 189 lowest weight 145 current weight 162

I have not lost any weight since October 14. My surgery was September 14 and I did lose over 30 lbs in the month after surgery. I am tracking my foods and exercising and I’m getting 500-700 calories a day. Trying to get 60 g of protein but not always getting there and the shakes are intolerable to me. This is very frustrating. Help!

I have this chronic skin condition called Hidradenitis also known as HS. I am 4 days away from being 2 months post op VSG and having the worst flare up i have ever had! I am in so much pain under my arms. Has anybody ever heard of the condition worsening after surgery? Is it because of the hormones? Change in diet? What have you done to treat it and any remedies would be helpful!

I started my diet yesterday 11-2 and woke up this morning with severe head aches. How long do these last for? I'm scheduled for my surgery on the 16th and hope these don't last too long! What do you take to help? I stopped drinking about 2 months ago, at the same time i stopped smoking marijuana, cut coffee and pretty much any caffeine in hopes to stop this from happening. Not sure what else could be causing these

Hi! My name is Hanne and I am from Norway. I have been considering the gastric sleeve. I am 34 y/o and weigh around 210 lbs /95 kg. I am overweight but not extremely fat/obese. My struggle is my pcos condition. It is making it so hard for me to lose weight, and even though I have managed to lose a lot of weight a few times, I've obviously never been able to keep it of. I had some issues with anorexia when I was a teenager. Even with an eating disorder I became normal weight, and not looking dangerously underweight as one might associate with anorexic patients. This has made me lose so much hope of ever living in a body that has a normal weight without starving…

Hi All So I'm contemplating VGS because I've dieted and failed over and over and over for years!! There are surgeons doing the surgery on patients with a BMI ov 30.0 or greater. I'm getting mixed reviews on doing such a drastic procedure with a BMI of less than 35. Has anyone else done it with a BMI of less than 35? Thoughts? Outcomes? TIA

Hi Everyone I'm new to the forum and was trying to search for previous information on here in relation to anyone who had it done in Istanbul but there seems to be very few reviews. I was just wondering if anyone could guide me. I did come across Dr HE Obesity Clinic which seemed to have a good rating on google reviews (however I now realise that these can be manipulated). I read a couple of reviews elsewhere of people in excruciating pain and they wouldn't give them morphine. The others I've looked at are Erdem Hospital and Irmet Hospital - which have mixed reviews on google but that doesn't necessarily mean it's related to gastric sleeve as they are obviously h…

I have been battling with eating, still barely sipping my liquid foods and protein shakes. But any time I eat or attempt to, I feel dizzy and can barely eat enough. No pre-conditions before surgery and I lost 20+ pounds in 9 days post surgery. After eating i have to lay down or I'd pass out or fall. I start panting, breathing fast and I have to lay down to catch my breath. Anyone has this....I'm just now 10days post surgery.

  31. Hi everyone, I'm 11 weeks out (this Wednesday) and still having discomfort when eating or drinking anything. The discomfort ranges from mild to moderate and sometimes, severe. It's never really "painful", just feels like I have to burp REALLY bad, even though I feel like I'm constantly burping the second I put food in my mouth, followed almost always by a stomachache within a half hour or so. My gut is always making a TON of noise too! I also feel like I'm getting conflicting info from my surgeon and his team (PA, nurse, dietician, etc.). I had a telemed visit with my surgeon about two weeks ago. He's the most laidback and easy-going of the bunch. He encouraged me to…

I am 4 days post op from the sleeve. I’m still in pain and having a hard time getting fluids in which is making me feel pretty lazy and not very mobile. How mobile were you 4 days out? Were you back to normal activities or just sitting around? I hate this feeling, I want to be up and getting back to a normal routine but I just don’t have the energy.

Hello, everyone! It is great to be back, I haven't seen you all in almost two years. I had the sleeve in 11/2015 and to date, I've gained 40 pounds. I'm not happy with the weight gain, but I'm thankful it isn't a huge amount to lose. I had one bite of cake and you know the story, I was back in that crap routine of eating, crap. I'm focused now!! Alright, the point of this post. I'll get to it. ☺️ Keto or no Keto. Last October, I had to get my gall bladder out and since then, whenever I go overboard on fats, I know about it within hours. Therefore, 100% Keto isn't for me. HOWEVER, I read about Dirty Keto. Have any of you t…

At the suggestion of my PCP, I am considering WLS. In 2005, I had lap band surgery. In 2015, I had a colectomy due to diverticulitis and bowel microperforations, and the lap band was removed when the colectomy was done. NOW, I have a very large incisional hernia in my abdomen from the colectomy surgery, and a hiatal hernia, both of which need to be repaired. The first surgeon I saw would not operate until I lost weight; my BMI is around 40-41. I am also older than many people posting here (68 on Medicare). So my PCP has referred me to a WLS surgeon. Has anyone here had gastric bypass or sleeve after having had a colectomy? I have only had my initial telemedicine app…

So I had surgery on Oct 26th, have been doing really well post OP so far, but I have really strange pains that feel like the center of my shoulder blades when I eat/drink sometimes? Not one specific food or drink that does it, and I cant imagine its restriction because it often comes on the first bite. Also I am taking like super tiny bites of whatever I'm eating, Jello, broth etc.. I also take very small drinks.. It usually passes pretty quickly, bit it's pretty painful..

Hey! Haven't been on here in QUITE some time, but figured the most impactful posts I saw as a newbie were the people who were 2-5 years in, checking back and encouraging new people. To give some detail, I'm 2.5 years in, over 140 pounds down (and kept off) 260 lbs start, currently 115, have had 2 plastic surgeries, and my life has literally never been better. If you're new and things are rough, it's okay! This journey has been long, rough, exhausted but SO worth it. Best decision I ever made, it gave me my life back. I'm happy to answer any questions if anyone has any or just wants encouraging words

Well I started my journey at 315 lbs pre surgery. I got to 275 on surgery day with 10 months of dietician. Today I am exactly two months post op. And it made my day this morning to weigh in at 239!!!!! I cant ever remember being this weight. Besides buying new clothes and having them not fit in a month this has been the most rewarding, hard, scary and fulfilling thing I have done in a very long time. I hope all of you are feeling fulfilled and proud too. Keep up the good work!

My surgery was scheduled for 10/27. The day before, I was notified that my pre-op physical disclosed a left bundle branch defect in my heart and, though I had an echocardiogram that seemed encouraging, they wanted to cancel until I complete a cardiac stress test. I was devastated as I was all ready to go within about 18 hours. I can't complete my stress test until 11/9 and now COVID-19 threatens to cancel elective surgeries again. I'm feeling pretty defeated. Anyone else have similar postponement or cancelations? Did it work out for you or are you still on the path? Did you give up?

  44. Hi! I’m 4 years out and am curious what others eat in a day who are around the same amount of time out from surgery? I still can only fit around a cup of food per meal and I eat every 2-4 hours otherwise I feel a bit off... I think calorie wise I’m around the 1400-1600 mark, I’m also trying to grow some muscles so I don’t want to eat much less then that but I definitely don’t hurt myself either and some days I find my sleeve is tighter and doesn’t fit a lot and some days I can go back for seconds lol

I need a little help from others that have been approved with CIGNA. THIS Is the most up to date policy (see below). They actually update their policy on the 15th of July so it was revised and updated today. No changes were really made. Anyways, I do meet the requirements but my question is regarding Cigna coverage. Most plans require a monitored 3, 6 or 12 month diet/nutrition/weight loss management through PCP or somewhere similar. Cigna's policy says NOTHING about this, only that "a statement from a physician other than the surgeon, that the individual has failed previous attempts to achieve and maintain weight loss by medical management" - it gives no other requireme…
