Hello! I have a sleeve procedure scheduled in November and won’t be able to have anyone help with my littles, I know no heavy lifting is important after surgery and luckily my toddlers are very self sufficient in their large motor skills and moving around. I’m just wondering if anyone has any wisdom or stories about caring for children post op as I am having anxiety over if I will be able to do it!

Hello all, I am due for surgery in October but I finally finished out the program to be able to submit my paperwork to my insurance as of Thursday 9/17/20 now I'm just waiting on a call from my baratric team to choose what day in October. My program was technically supposed to end October 1st but I got done a little sooner ?✨ I'm in need of support other than my boyfriend and his family. I'm so scared. but sorta excited. I deal with anxiety and depression so it can be a bit of a struggle some days I think I got the whole WLS thing down and other days I'm just way too overwhelmed by it all! Encouraging words accepted* I'm in need of them. Much love ~ Rachael

I am curious if anyone else has experienced what I am going thru now. I had my Sleeve on 03/04/16 since than i have been unable to hold down any fluids. I was discharged Tuesday 03/08/16. Only to be readmitted for dehydration since I am throwing Everything up. My readmission date was Friday 03/11/16 and i am still here. While here i have had a egd with dilation with attempt to open up narrowing in stomach. However after this procedure still couldnt keep fluids down. Finally my surgical team state i need a NJ tube. This was placed this past friday. They also found a twist so they did another dilation. So now i am here depressed and uncomfortable with a feeding tube…

Hi everyone! I was sleeved 9/8 and I’ve had a painless recovery so I’m truly grateful for that. But I can’t drink barley anything. The only thing my body seems to tolerate is just plain warm decaf tea. No plain water, all the sugar free Welch’s and crystal lights are just too sweet now, apple juice, Gatorade, sugar free lemonades, nothing. Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on warm drinks that aren’t too sweet? Thanks I don’t want to end back in the hospital for being dehydrated.

Howdy - Knock on wood, so far no major problems at all. I've just noticed this week that when I drink water, I am SO FULL. Like I ate a full Thanksgiving Dinner kind of full. It doesn't seem to matter how long I take to drink a bottle of water. I've been very lucky to be able to drink normal size sips since a week or so post surgery, but now even taking tiny sips, I'm just miserably full. No acid reflux, no pain in chest or throat, just feeling severly bloated. It's really starting to affect the amount of food that I'm getting in and I find myself forcing myself to eat anything (cycle through that miserably stuffed feeling again...). Any ideas? Seems …

I have my 1st post op appt tomorrow and am curious to know what my surgeon will say. I would like to know what you all think.

I cannot recommend this cookbook enough! My husband bought it for me and it has been immensely helpful with recipes from the liquids to the regular food stage. It has a number of smoothie recipes that are tasty and get you plenty of protein. I'm moving to pureed soon and I'll use the recipes for the pureed stage as well. Totally worthwhile purchase!

I've read mixed reviews on eating Triscuits. Several people reported them getting "stuck" and causing serious vomiting issues, while others reported no problems. I'm about 5 weeks out and I'm dying for something crunchy that I can put hummus on. If Triscuits are a big no-no (even low fat, low sodium ones), what's a good replacement? Tired of eating hummus by the spoonful. ? P.S. I have a meeting with the dietician tomorrow and will bring this up as well.

Somehow in the last couple of days, I've GAINED 2lbs. Not sure how. My food log reflects that I'm getting in about 50oz - 60oz of liquids (between water, Gatorade & protein drink) and approx. 40g of protein daily for the last week-10 days. The dietician wants me to "up" my protein intake big time, but I just don't know how I can do it. She suggested different foods and adding another meal daily, but NO snacking - even on healthy, protein-rich foods. I still have very little appetite and when I do eat, I'm full almost instantly. How I'm going to get MORE food in is beyond me. She said if I don't do this, I will likely stall or even start gaining again. Ugh...this is ge…

So last night after I ate (a little chicken & a Aldi's carb conscious meal bar) - I started feeling REALLY bad soon after. (It was not the Aldis Meal Bar - I eat those all the time)... Nauseous but could not throw up (I never can actually throw up after surgery -- I just get severely nauseous periodically). I was dry heaving. I have promethazine but I was so nauseous - I could not even make myself take it. So I decided to just sleep it off. I woke up at 4am with a KILLER migraine, so I took 100mg of Imitrex (migraine med) and 50mg of promethazine... My back was also KILLING me... worse than I've ever had back pain. There was NO position I could get in th…

I’m basically at my goal weight. 1. I haven’t been under 200lbs since 1993. 2. Food cravings and mood swings the first 60 days are miserable! 3. The pain the first 30 days was morphine in pill form hydromorphine. I lived on it. 4. Drink something before 30 mins after eating a year later and I still get massive pain cramps. 5. Most of my sugar cravings have disappeared. 6. I dreamt about food for 6 months. Lol. 7. I used to have friends who would go to dinner with me and have 4 drinks before my 30 minutes are up. I’m not friends with them anymore. My biggest complaint is why can’t people enjoy one alcoholic drink over 25 minutes while I’m waiting to have my …

This is almost 14 months after surgery. I am 74, and happier than I've ever been. Walking daily only 30 minutes, but loving it. With work and determination, this is life-changing surgery. You are never too old either. I even had a glass of wine and a piece of cake for my birthday and didn't gain anything. Feeling blessed.

Hi Everyone, I was here years ago, after I had lap band surgery which was a total waste of time. Had that redone a year after on the advice of my surgeon. Still didn't lose any weight and gave up for years. Recently had a revision to sleeve done with a different surgeon, they took out the band, waited 3 months and then did the sleeve 9/9. What interested me in the sleeve was the reduction of ghrelin. Not being hungry. Well I've been hungry since it was done. I'm following all the protocols but am really worried. Doctor said I can do the purees early, started that today. Can sense a tiny difference because I ate something warm - a little better than brot…

Oh my gosh! I'm not kidding. I've read it a 100x the pain you will be in if you eat too fast or too much. I'm extremely positive and have been so blessed with zero complications. So understand me when I say DO NOT EAT TOO FAST and STOP EATING NO MATTER WHAT if you are full. I In my case, I'm in Phase 3 which for me is soft foods. I can barely get through my two ounces of protein. And forget about the 1/4 cup of veggies. I'm thrilled. I'm NOT complaining because this is good and what I want (duh). I'm just warning [emoji3544] you if you're even thinking about pushing yourself to eat what you're supposed to eat a certain amount, but can't just STOP. Just keep your …

I had surgery on Sept 10, 2020. When I woke up, I expected to be in a lot of pain, but there was minimum pain! Yay! However, I am seriously exhausted! Now we wait and see what the weight does. I am at 251 this morning (9/18/2020).

I got a call from the bariatric nurse today. “We can schedule your surgery for October 2nd.” That’s two weeks away! And granted, that’s pending insurance approval, but holy cow! I’ve been in the program since March and everything has taken so long due to COVID. I just had my EGD last week, I guess I was just expecting a lot more waiting before getting a surgery date. I’m excited, but at the same time, I kind of wanted to have one last food (and drink) hurrah with friends before surgery. But not going to complain... the wait is almost over!

I'm scheduled to have surgery on the 24th, and only have enough sick/PTO for 1 week after surgery. How long did you all take off? My manager knows about the surgery and is very accommodating, I will mostly be sitting at my desk all shift when I return. My surgeon said I should be fine to go back at 1 week but I'm just afraid that I'm going back too soon. I know everyone heals differently, but I'm just wondering what you all experienced 1 week post op. Thanks! :)

Maybe this info will be helpful to someone: So I was stuck at a plateau weight for a couple of weeks, and I was okay with it b/c I know it happens. But then I actually GAINED weight. In fact, I was feeling overall lousy, bloated and sluggish, with headaches and stomach discomfort. Frustrated, I called my bariatric team and they asked me to give them a run-down of what I was eating. I was drinking a protein shake every day for breakfast, sometimes another protein shake for lunch, and sugar-free pudding was my go-to snack. Long story short, turns out I am lactose intolerant, and the protein shakes I was drinking are made with milk protein, a/k/a lactose. What …

I have not drunk milk in years. Besides just not being into drinking what animals use to increase their babies’ fat, it makes my throat gummy. I just can’t stand to drink milk. So I’m on my pre-op diet and a lot of it is drinking these Protein Shakes. All milk. My throat is back to being all Gummy. I can’t stand it. I can’t clear my throat. Should I just focus on Protein waters? Anyone else with the same issue? Anyone with some suggestions?

I was so excited to get to the puréed stage of the diet, but it has not been as wonderful as I imagined. Today is day two on purées, and my taste buds are all over the place. So far I’ve tried scrambled eggs, which I loved prior to surgery, now they’re gross. Next up was one of my favorite soups prior to being sleeved, Panera’s Chicken Tortilla Soup. Yuck! My standouts in terms of taste have been guacamole, hummus, and baked sweet potato with sour cream, but everything including the foods I liked has made me feel terrible; belching, burping, tightness in chest area, stomach pain, and more noise and gurgling then usual. Tomorrow I will try oatmeal and the f…

Hi All, Being nearly 40 and fed up of being a fat bloke I’ve decided to get myself some WLS. Thinking sleeve as don’t like the re-plumbing idea! My GP has referred me to the NHS bariatric service but I can’t face the wait so am looking at private options. Curently thinking of traveling to Belgium using either Prof Dillemans or Chris De Bruyne. Does anyone have any experiences of these guys and of getting aftercare back home in the UK?

I’m wondering what causes weight loss stalls for everybody at any stage of this journey. I’m just in my pre-op phase and am trying to drop lbs. prior to surgery. For example, if I drink protein shakes and have that “healthy snack” in between meals, I will not lose any weight!

Yesterday I had my first post-op dr. visit (surgery was 8/19). When asked what protein shake I was drinking, I told the PA "Premier Protein". She nearly had a heart attack. While she was never rude or nasty, she was very firm and clear that I should NEVER drink that "junk" and I should ONLY be drinking Unjury Unflavored powder - which she made me order during our visit! I thought this was so odd. I went thru the bariatric program at another hospital before changing at the last minute, and PP shakes were not only acceptable with that program, they were encouraged, so I bought two cases of it at Costco pre-surgery. I didn't want to waste it, so that's why I'm trying to use …

I hate to ask this question but I am month 4/6 in pre-approval process. My whole life I have tried anything you can think of and I have been so very sure each one was the answer. I usually lose between 8-12 pounds each attempt and then stall. It's been the same thing pre-op. I did intermittent fasting with being gluten free since 7/31/19, no problem fasting 20-22 hours but when I would try to do alternate day fasting or 24 hour fasting I would gain with the lower calories. I have researched starvation mode and most experts agree it does not exist. I ended up averaging 19 hours and plateaued at 12 pounds after 3 months and then started gaining again even with the fasting. …

So. Starting over in the AM. Going back to basics. (Or at least this is my plan, I struggle with follow-thru, ain't even gonna lie!) I'm sitting at 141 lbs currently & I'd be happy to stay there for the rest of my life, but lately I can feel myself slipping. I'm getting softer in the middle and thighs and lil love handles...and not feeling the muffin-ier muffin top I've got going on. I've been snacking more, and way over-indulging in the iced coffees. Not working out like I should. SO. Trying a pouch reset tomorrow. I need a jump start to get myself back on track. I'm also dealing with some real life issues. Navigating a divorce and feeling down and simply not g…
