Hi all, 115 pounds down and some pesky cholesterol stones have wreaked havoc in my life! There are many of you who have had your gallbladders removed due to gallstones. Please share your experience here! Background: I’m not getting a lot of clear information from my doctor about what to expect from removal, just assurances that it’s a very easy surgery. Given my last surgery (gastric sleeve) wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, I would love to hear your experiences with removal. Did you immediately choose for removal? Anyone here choose to control their stones through diet modifications or take a “wait and see” approach? After getting an attack during a work meeting in K…

I have my VSG on 8/24 and have been following my preop diet very strictly. The cravings and constant thinking of food is soooo annoying though. I’m even cravings things I don’t even like, like pies and other super sweet desserts; I prefer savory flavors and don’t crave sweets very often. I keep telling myself “8 more days....” but it’s just soooo hard. Good news though, I’ve lost almost 9lbs since last Monday, but what I wouldn’t do for a peanut butter sundae right about now, haha!

Hey guys today is my 3 year surgeversity and let me tell you it's been a crazy journey with many ups and downs!!! I'm 5'2" I had the sleeve done on aug 16 2017, at age 19. Surgery weight was 275 lbs. At 1 year post op I reached 168 lbs. After that began my struggling I would notice my weight start to go up and I would yoyo diet. I realized that being I was pretty young and naive I never listened to my surgeons instructions and advice. For the last 2 years my weight has been fluctuating between 165 and 185. Typically I'm in the 170's. Although I never even got to a bmi out of obese range when I get to 160's I'm pretty happy. If anyone feels like their surgery isn't a succ…

....As I am with how slowly the weight is coming off? I have been discouraged, but now I’m just getting downright disgusted. I am 10 1/2 weeks postop and have only lost 30 pounds. No, I do not think that is a lot. My surgeon told me that he expected me to be down 100 pounds by Thanksgiving. That is never going to happen. I have a coworker on weight watchers and she is losing weight faster than I am. I am doing everything right, so I know that is not the problem. I really don’t want to hear the speeches about how losing slower is better. This is just too slow. ? I would just like to hear from the folks that are also losing weight slowly and how you kept it going…

Hi there. Definitely new here. I got my sleeve done on Monday August 10th so only two days ago. In the hospital I felt fine i was moving around. Surgery day I got 10oz of water in after surgery and a few sips of broth they gave me. Second day I had 16oz of water and about 16oz of the crystal light they provided as well as a few sips of broth again. I felt pretty good and i didn't have a lot of pain only after walking a bit and getting up from peeing. They sent me home yesterday saying i was totally okay. Now my surgeon told me it wouldn't be much of a painful recovery. That after a day or two I would be totally pain free. Now its 2 days after surgery and I feel like my pa…

Hi All - This is my first post here. I'm scheduled for surgery on Weds. I recently relocated for work and so my surgery is in Atlanta where I used to live, even though I now live in Nashville. My plan was to have the surgery in the morning, work from home all day on surgery day, then the very next day (after surgery) to work from home all day, and then fly home back to nashville that night. So basically to get on a plane (it's only a 1 hour flight) about ~30-35 hours post surgery. How feasible is this? Will I be in too much pain or be too comfortbale? Will the airpressure cause issues? Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

Can someone please give me the lowdown on a couple of actual surgical questions? How many incisions are made? How big are they and where are they? Of the two surgical consultations, neither doctor really went over this with me (and truthfully, I didn't think to ask). How long do the external incisions take to heal? How long do you take to heal internally? Are you in a lot of pain on the inside or out (aside from gas pain or overeating, etc.)? I've read stories about some people being in pain for weeks and others "rollin' in the hay 3 days later", so I honestly don't know what to expect! I know I won't be doing the latter! LOL!!!

Hi everyone. I'm on pre-op and I bought enough protein to last into post-op. Stupidly. Isopure unflavored Isopure zero carb vanilla Nectar lemon ice tea Premier protein pack of 12 clear protein peach Reccomended by the clinic doing the surgery. Reccomended based on my issues - I'm lactose intolerant. I dislike milk in general. I don't enjoy milkshakes. The first clear protein peach was nice. The first nectar was ok, minis the off putting color that made me feel weird. Tasting a clear liquid liked iced tea, but brain saw a milky liquid in the glass. Day two, I try the vanilla from isopure. Smells makes me gag. Added m…

I saw my Doctor for my 2 year follow up today, on my actual 2 year anniversary, and it went great. I asked him if I should worry about year three. He smiled and said I don’t worry about you, you get this, and has every confidence that I will stay on track. I think the second year was easier for me than the first year, I feel like I know what I have to do, and what to avoid, to maintain a healthy weight. I lost weight so slowly the first year, I got very frustrated at times but I never lost hope, cheated or gave up. I WANTED And needed this, so quitting was never an option for me. Reading this board then participating A few months later really helped me reach my goa…

Below is an edited version from 3 weeks ago when I was conceivably talking about getting a bypass with the medical group. Now the Doctor Thinks a Sleeve Would be Better Then a Bypass. With battling weight most of my life 10 years ago I got a lap band put in. I am now 57 years old, 15 years ago I was diagnosed with type two diabetes At the time my Lap Band was put in my weight was 230 pounds. That might not sound like a lot of weight but for a male 5’8 it was a lot for me. In addition to having type two diabetes I have also had two neck surgeries and three back surgeries over the years. The Lap Band gave me significant weight loss. I got down from 230 to 160-165. …

Hi! I'm having a hard time with the protein shakes. I'm trying all kinds of flavors but I just don't like them. I know I may have to force them down & I will if it comes to that. My question is can I use protein water & unflavored protein powder to get my protein in every day after surgery and not drink shakes? I tried the unflavored protein in water and it tasted just fine so I know I can use that. I've got a case of protein water on the way too. Any advice would be helpful! Thank you! (I'm sure this question has been asked over & over but my search results were 17,000+ and nobody has time for that, ha!)

I've been reading on this website (as well as others), stories of people who have had various kinds of bariatric surgeries that have failed. Granted, I'm guessing some may have failed due to lack of commitment, exercise, etc., but what about the folks who have followed their post-op diets/instructions to a "T" and either lose significantly less than expected or permanently stall after a short time? I tend to be a person who loses weight more easily when I eat normal, healthy, balanced meals, as opposed to "starving" on super low cal, low carb, diets. Right now I'm six days into my pre-op diet and I'm only down 3lbs. According to my dietician, I should be down at least dou…

Hi everyone! I am newly sleeved (monday) and made it home yesterday, and I've made some serious improvements in the amount of liquid I am able to take in. Whilst in the hospital I was only really able to consume one yoghurt or soup a day, but being home today I've managed to have a protein shake, some sugar free juice (maybe 150ml) and I'm making my way steadily through a soup. The thing is, I'm quite unsure of what is to be expected. My surgeon said to sip every 3 to 5 minutes in the day if I can, but I wonder what sort of ballpark in calories should I be trying to get in me? Is 400-500 calories enough at the moment? And I'm sure this is quite stu…

Hey everyone, Newbie here. On Friday, I got a call saying that my surgery is scheduled for 8/19 - if I wanted it to be - so I booked it. Of course, that was actually perfect timing (workwise it fits great with my schedule), but I feel like I had NO notice. No time to prepare, no time to get a few things out of my system (like a trip to my favorite seafood restaurant, etc.). I'm not big on pigging out, so that wasn't my intention, but I had to start the pre-op diet immediately and did so on Saturday. Now, it's a GORGEOUS day here in Chicago and I'd love nothing more than to sit outside and enjoy a raspberry lemonade with a splash of vodka (I'm not a big drinker either…

So I've been going through the approval process for 5 months and last week I got my surgery date.... And it's only 11 days away (10 if you don't include today). And I am TERRIFIED. Disclosure: I have several anxiety disorders, and big BIG stuff like this freaks me out. I felt similar before (and actually for several months after) getting married even though I 100% love my husband and our relationship was and still is as solid as can be, and I felt the same,or even more scared, when we had our son. Like just utterly panicked thinking wtf am I doing my life was fine before (even if that's not even true). I have moments when I see more clearly, that really I only have 2…

Do any of y'all use a Yonanas dessert maker? I bought mine when I was doing Weight Watchers but never even opened the box. I thought it might be useful, especially during the puree & soft food stage after surgery. I know bananas tend to be high in natural sugars so that's why I'm wondering if I should use it. Thank you!

hey, i was wondering if there is anyone who has had a BMI over 40 that has had the gastric sleeve and been successful with keeping the weight off. The surgeon is suggesting the bypass because of the BMI being over 40. But im not a fan of the bypass because it bypasses part of the small intestines where the nutrients gets absorbed. I am currently 6'4 and 470lbs and I'm trying to choose between the sleeve or the bypass. Any input would be helpful.

Hey everyone, I had gastric sleeve surgery back in 2014. I did pretty well over the years coming from almost 240 all the way down to 140 but now about 165. I'm definitely a stress eater. This year has been a struggle & I'm not even talking about COVID. No point in sharing my reasons because they don't help. I'd like to get back on track but I don't even remember how to start. I'd like to ask what you guys are eating on a daily basis; a sample menu perhaps? I'd be so grateful if anyone could give me pointers on how to get back on the right path! Many thanks, Fran

Hey y’all! Still researching up to the time of my first scheduled consultation in March to make sure I choose the best option for me. I have settled on having the sleeve instead of the bypass, but came across Dr. Todd McCarty’s website and I’m intrigued! He technically does the VSG procedure, but it’s done in a different way. They either remove the excess stomach pouch through your esophagus or belly button. There are only 1 or 2 incisions, and it’s an outpatient surgery since they aren’t going through the abdominal wall. Much shorter recovery time, less invasive, and he doesn’t require a liquid diet prior to surgery! What’s not to love? I went ahead and made an appointme…

I had lad-band Surgery about 12 years ago. I went from 320 down to about 250 at my lowest weight, I am a 6 ft tall 62 year old male. I am back up to 300 and just not going to be fat anymore. I finally had all of the saline removed from the lap-band because I would wake up every night drowning in my saliva...it would not go down at night. I have been on several calls with the insurance company and the doctors office and have an appointment for late July to discuss removal and Gastric Sleeve the same day as I understand it. I am really excited about this! I would like to lose about 100 pounds. The nurse said she didn't think I would have to do the 6-7 month diet required b…

If you use popsicle molds, what are your favorite ones? I'm overwhelmed by the choices on Amazon! I was hoping to find one that will make the typical Popsicle brand popsicle shape but I'm not having much luck so far. so, i am one week out. and my doc calls for a 2 week liquid diet of protein shakes, broth, sugar free jello and juice. I am having trouble taking in more than 400 calories a day. 2 of the premier protein shakes has 320 calories, and between 10 calorie broth and 5 calorie juice, i end up around 400 calories a day. that just seems like too little. my understanding is that if you dont eat enough calories, you body will reject losing weight because it thinks you are starving. i can drink a couple more protein shakes, but that would be way too much protein. would appreciate your thoughts.

My sleeve is scheduled for this month. I'm self paid, doing it in Mexico, 5ft 1, 174lbs, bmi 32.9. I am prediabetes, high blood pressure and painful joints. I have a very small frame. I took a lot of prescribed steroids for medical conditions and antidepressants for many years and even with exercise and calorie control, could not lose on healthy diet. So I decided to get surgery. As an Asian, the cut off for health bmi is 22.9 so my goal is get a bmi of 21 or 22. So my goal is 111-117lbs. Im 32, never had child, and my doctors back home agree it's a good goal weight. I have therapist and nutritionist lined up for post surgery help, however I feel like after rea…

Hi all, I have my gastric sleeve surgery in one week and my nerves and anxiety are really kicking in now. I am looking to hear experiences from those who have had the surgery. Was it worth it? How bad/long was the recovery? Will I be able to return to work in a week? How often did you undergo nausea/vomiting? What was the worst part for you? Any horrible side effects? Whoop! Hope I can keep this pace going. I’m sure it’ll slow, my initial rolling seven day average was around 10-12 for the first couple weeks and it’s been hovering right around 4lbs a week since. Once I got past the low energy stage I feel like hyper-mode has been activated. No food issues. I’m capable of eating anything it seems nothing disagrees with me, just making good choices every day, and the restriction is still very high, an ounce or two depending on what it is. Ate some raw jalapeños even. I haven’t been this light since college (in the 90s). Doesn’t seem possible... wish I did this years ago.

Hi. I am wondering if anyone is able to get enough protein, per day, by food. I am 10 weeks post op and have been on “normal” food for over a month. I absolutely detest protein powder, protein shakes, protein drink and any form or protein supplement. Not only do I detest, but it doesn’t sit well inside my stomach. I try to eat protein throughout the day (eggs, chicken, turkey, Greek yogurt, tuna, some cheeses) but I feel like I am no where near my protein gram goal. Wondering if anyone is hitting their protein goal with actual and food and what you are eating. Thanks.

Yesterday I had my post surgery 2 week checkup. All is well. The nurse told me I should begin taking my bariatric vitamins the next day and then she said something that kind of shocked me. She said I no longer need to eat vegetables or fruit because this vitamin will give me everything that vegetables and fruit can give me. I find this horrifying because I love vegetables, and can't imagine never eating them again. Have others been told this?

Hello All, Hoping someone who has gone through a gastric band revision to a gastric sleeve can help me. I got the band 10 years ago and for awhile it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I lost 100 pounds and I was working out every day and life was good. Then the reflux started. So bad I spent months sleeping in a chair because lying in bed made me choke with all the stomach acid coming up. They took all the fluid out of my band and now I'm on track to get the band removed and get a gastric sleeve. Very worried about going to a hospital in the middle of the pandemic, but I'm going to be 60 soon and they're telling me that it's pretty much now or never. I'm h…

Hello all! Fairly new to the posting community. But during quarantine I found this app and I’ve been reading all the love and support that you all give one another!! I’m joining the bandwagon! I got my surgery date as of about a month ago! I’m going under the knife on August 10th. So I’m less than two weeks away! Does anyone have any tips for the pre-op liquid diet? I started two days ago and I’ve most been drinking tomato soup, broth, protein shakes, juice and water. It’s started to get old, an I’ll be in this stage for about another month! TL;DR: I’m in my 2 week liquid diet and I’m looking for some tips.

I had my pre-surgery blood work & tests at the hospital this morning. I also received the 2 week pre-surgery diet I will need to follow. Of course, it follows a very low carb path. I was diagnosed w/diabetes in January & I feel very nauseous if I don’t eat enough carbs so I’m not sure how this is going to work for me. I plan to ask my nutritionist about this but I was also hoping other diabetics could weigh in with what they did. My diabetes is controlled with Metformin. Thank you!
