I am strongly considering having my surgical procedure done without anesthetic. Since cleaning myself up, I've been very cautious about taking any sort of drug or using any substance that alters my perception. I have a high tolerance for pain and I'm refusing all pain medication. I made the same choice a couple years back when they had to remove a foreign object from my rectum. Lots of pain at first, but after about 30 minutes it was tolerable. Has anyone else done this?

  4. Hello, I got my surgery back in Dec 2017. Starting from 96Kg, going down to 76 going back to 90 I am 3 years out and despite I gain back most of the weight I still thinking that without the surgery my situation could be much worst. Till 3 months ago I did get any type of downside from my surgery, but starting from March I started to get a lot of problems with my stomach. I need your help to figure what's going on. 1) Despite I am obliged to eat a very small portion and small bites, after every meal (does not matter the type of food, dry or wet) I feel like I have a huge block over my stomach. Take up to 2 hours before I start to get better. Neve…

I’m a year post surgery & this idea just occurred to me. I was feeling like my protein bars were piling up because at this stage I’m not eating them as often & there’s so many times I want just a couple bites. Finally it occurred to me to chop a few up into 12 cubes & dump them together into a stay fresh container. If I grab 3 pieces that’s 5G of protein & about 45 calories.

Hello all! So my surgery date is quickly approaching. I haven’t really told many people that I’m having it mostly because some of my friends reactions have been rather discouraging. They almost have a tone like I’m being frivolous or ridiculous for having the sleeve, when I believe I’m doing something to prolong my life. I mean even if everyone I knew disagreed I know this is what I’ll need to get back to a normal BMI. I just wasn’t expecting certain people to react so negatively towards it.

  7. Hi! I am just starting the decision process. Like many of you I have tried everything and I do mean everything to try and lose weight. I have had Hashimoto's hypothyroid for over 20 years. I have required frequent medication adjustments even with diet restrictions. I have consulted with 2 surgeons, one recommended bypass since my loss has been so stubborn but the other thought I could reach my goals with the sleeve (as I prefer) but may need to consider a thyroidectomy due to the difficulty I have had stabilizing my thyroid function. I am just looking for any success stories of patients that have had either procedure who have also had trouble with hypothyroid.

First time post, I am scheduled for surgery on June 25(this upcoming Thursday) I am currently on the 3 day liquid diet. Today was my first day and I did t have any problems at all throughout the day, but tonight I feel like I NEED something besides liquid. My question to all of y’all is..... would a thumbnail size piece of chocolate (just to let it melt in my mouth) be okay or not. I not usually a candy eater, I love my carbs. I’m just thinking that it may help me out. The reason I chose chocolate is because it would melt and then become a liquid of some sort.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to know if there’s any 30-somethings out there who have had the vsg surgery on here:) If so, how was your surgical experience? How did you do in terms of excess skin? How has it effected your social lives? I’m scheduled for surgery in June and just wanna get an idea of what post-op life is like through my age group’s perspective:)

I am a 62 year old male. I had lap band surgery about 12 years ago. I lost some weight but would find myself drowning in my own Saliva every night with a very minimal restriction in the band. I still have the band but had the saline taken out. I started at 6 ft tall and 320 and got down to about 250. My weight has crept back up to 300. I have sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. I would like to lose around 100 pounds. The Sleeve looks like the best option for me.I have tried every diet and failed. I read on Blue Cross Blue Shield this morning that the surgery was covered for people 18-60 years old. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Surely if my GP and Bariatric do…

Question: I am over a year out from my sleeve surgery. Woke up this morning with chest pain. Thought it was gas and took gas ex. Also took my Prilosec. I noticed it hurts when I swallow. When I had the band, I had esophagus spasms. Kinda feels like that but without the spasms. Has anyone had this. No pain down my arm or anything

I am posting this in the hopes that it may help someone.... Onederland. I have read other people post about onederland for years now, and never thought it would one day be me. It just seemed so far out of reach. During my years of trying all different diet fads, I got close, but never hit the magic number (only to gain back everything, plus). Yesterday, was my first memory of ever seeing a 1 as the first digit on the scale. Less than 8 months ago, I weighed 316 pounds, scared out of my mind about surgery, and wondering if I would even lose 100 pounds in the end. The road hasn’t always been easy, but the results are so worth it. For those on the fence (as I…

I am almost 12 weeks out and although I know I can't chug water, I will take several sips at a time, then several more. I think I did this too many times today because I think it made me nauseous? Anyone else drink too much water and have similar issues?

  15. This show played a part in my decision to have WLS. Seeing the struggles and the victories helped me to better understand my relationship with food. But now that I’ve had my VSG, I’m paying attention through a more watchful eye and I’m beginning to wonder how realistic some of these things are, specifically the weight loss goals that the patients are given. On the most recent show, there was a lady who was 1 year out and the doctor told her she should still be losing 15 pounds a month but the more I read here and other places that seems like a tall order for someone who is even 4 months out. I was never given specific weight loss goals after surgery but I know every pr…

Okay, so over the past month or so my belly button seems to have a constant pink tone around the inside and rim of it, like a mild rash color. I thought it WAS a rash, and have been treating it accordingly, but it occurred to me today that it might actually be the long-term inside skin of the belly button becoming more the outside, now that I'm over 80 lbs down? I do have some excess skin folding and such, particularly at the bikini line, and above the belly button, but my shape is sort of hourglass and always was, so my belly button being covered is nothing new. Is my innie slowly becoming an outie? Has anyone else got any insight on this? Very confused.

Hello all! So I had VSG surgery June 2nd and so far all has been going well with my recovery! No pain, tolerating my soft diet, and I’m losing weight which is amazing! But I’m starting to freak out because I’m starting to notice my skin is loosening. I knew it was going to happen, but I’m thinking if I’m already getting loosening then my skin is going to look crazy by the time I reach goal. I started at 281, lost 20 lbs before surgery, and so far have lost and additional 15 lbs. my goal is to get to 150-160 lbs. I’m currently 36 years old. Is there anything at all that I can do to minimize loose skin? Has anyone tried anything that they find works?

Hi. Having a sleeve in a couple of weeks. I have read a lot in the past year. I live alone and am interested if you can help me out with any thoughts you have on your favourite post surgery foods that would be good. Also your thoughts on when you can start a fairly vigorous walking regime. Thanks All.

I'm a month out and have developed gastritis. Went to the hospital 2 nights ago because the pain is UNBEARABLE. After 10 hours and a CAT scan later. They came up with gastritis. Scan showed everything internally healing as it should, no leaks...sleeve is perfect. I woke up last night and snatched my mask off because I could FEEL. A gigantic gas bubble develop in my chest. For the past few nights I've only worn my CPAP about 3-4 hours because it feels like I'm suffocating after a year of having it. Anyone else experienced or heard of this? It's MY time!

So I finally made the decision...I had been contemplating surgery for years. I am 34 years old and have struggled with weight since I was about 10 years old. Up and down...up and down...then regain of more than I lost each time. Every diet you can think of. You all know the list! In 2011 I started going through the insurance process for weight loss surgery. I had lost 95 lbs on my own (with phentermine help) and started going to support groups and such. I had gotten down to about 290 from 380-385. However, while I was in the process (before being approved) - my insurance stopped covering weight loss surgeries. They have not covered it since. Well, you guys know the r…

  26. I wanted to share a "time lapse" of pictures of my transformation over the past 3 years 7/2017 - 5/2020. I have lost weight, exercised and I have my life back and I am living it again. All of us are here to fight this demon and I wanted to show my pictures as encouragement to show it can happen. Will I be a size 2? Probably not, but I am happier than ever with my life and myself. I am currently pursuing removing my stomach skin with my original surgeon due to recurrent abdominal and navel infections. We shall see what the insurance says about it all. ?

I'm 3 weeks post op, gastric sleeve. The diet my doctor gave me was on the more restrictive side at the beginning - clear fluids for a whole week and full fluids for another week, whereas I've seen other diets that have you on fluids for only 7 days. But it seems less restrictive at the end - graduate to a full diet after 4 weeks. It says nothing about raw vegetables after this point, while I notice that other diets may have restrictions on raw vegetables for 2-6 months. (By the way, I had my surgery in Mexico, so there will be no followup appointments with my surgeon, nor do I have appointments with a nutritionist to ask questions.) I really, really love ra…

Its been a year, I talked to the doctor about my progress on May 21. Since I'm 6'0 she recommended I drink a 128 oz and half Water, Protein Shakes to maintain muscle, my calorie intake 1600 and carb intake no more than 20g. I've still been trying to get to 1600 calories. Before I had the talk with the doctor, I was consuming 1200 calories which seems to be easier to maintain 20g carbs with that calorie intake. I was also still losing weight even though I went beyond 20g of carbs. I think I might do my own thing.

  36. i bought that chocolate and vanilla powder and find the taste ?. Any recommendations for comparable shakes that you like? Also, where you ordered them from? Thanks!!!

Help guys! I have a swollen lymph node on the back of my neck just below the skull. It’s been inflamed since yesterday and is causing a massive headache as well as sharp pain running down my shoulder and arm. I’ve been alternating heat and cold compresses and just about maxed out the Tylenol you can take in a day. I even took a Lortab leftover from my surgery two years ago. I need to hit this with an anti inflammatory. What’s the best way to take an NSAID to reduce risk of ulcers? Take Pepcid with it? Maybe children’s ibuprofen in liquid form so it’s not sitting in my sleeve? Any advice would be welcome!

Hi everyone, I wanted to reach and out and see if anyone has experienced neck pain after eating. I had VSG Dec 16, 2019. By the time I was cleared to everything, I started noticing that I would get pretty sharp neck pain if I ate too much or too fast. This is really starting to get bothersome as now I notice it at every meal (which I can assure you I do not over eat)... and the pain is quite unsettling. I am hoping to do a virtual chat with my surgeon but it’s very difficult to get a hold of him. any one else experience this type of pain? Would love your feedback. thanks! Neda

I came out of surgery able to take in an ounce of protein drink and an ounce of water (at the same time) every 15 minutes. I did need to mix up my protein intake from room temp clear protein, to cold shakes, to warmed tomato soup with added protein powder per my nausea tolerance the first 5 days due to nausea with the pain meds but once off those I'm good with any. I drink 50-70 ounces of water a day, (preop I was 80 to 120 minimum) with electrolyte drop ins. That puts me at 80 to 90 ounces "intake" a day. I meet and exceed the fluid and protein goals. My 2nd week post-surgery I began to get a painful empty feeling several times a day. Its pissing me off. Its not ac…

I came on very strong based on perceived perception from threads on various forums from a decade ago and that wasn't far to you all. The responses were pretty awesome! I am one week away from my 6 month mark since surgery. My surgery wounds have healed tremendously on my stomach and my IV marks are also almost completely dissolved. Throughout the months, I've tried small bits of things such as a burrito, a slice of pizza, and bread (for a hamburger). My body would immediately react and I would need to find somewhere to vomit even after one bite. Since then, I avoided them completely. I recently c…

After seeing my physician at 11 months out I was about to start Trulicity to hopefully jumpstart my weight loss since exercise was not working. This all came to a halt when I thought well I have not had my menstrual cycle in months. Let’s just be sure and since I had a an extra pregnancy test in cabinet I took it. Let me say my cycle has always been irregular and I’ve had an IUD in place the last 2 years. So really thought I was humoring myself my taking the test. I am 38 and had no plans to add t…

  48. Have been visiting my Bariatric clinic initially for undergoing the Sleeve procedure, however with my last surgeon visit, he said he recommends that I get the Bypass. With the increase of GERD after Sleeve, and the numerous revisions from Sleeve to Bypass...he says if you'd like to avoid this in the future and save a surgery then it would be better just to do Bypass. WHOAH! Bypass seems to me like the most drastic procedure for the most severe cases (IDK, I get that sensation). My question to Sleevers: If you could do it again, would you choose Bypass? Does GERD really get that bad?
