ISO success stories with Hashimoto's and Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am just starting the decision process. Like many of you I have tried everything and I do mean everything to try and lose weight. I have had Hashimoto's hypothyroid for over 20 years. I have required frequent medication adjustments even with diet restrictions. I have consulted with 2 surgeons, one recommended bypass since my loss has been so stubborn but the other thought I could reach my goals with the sleeve (as I prefer) but may need to consider a thyroidectomy due to the difficulty I have had stabilizing my thyroid function. I am just looking for any success stories of patients that have had either procedure who have also had trouble with hypothyroid.

I have hypothyroid and have had sleeve surgery. Had to revise to bypass because of severe GERD.

I have had much more success with the bypass although I did lose weight with the sleeve. If I had it to do all over again, I would go straight for bypass. Mostly because of the high rate of gerd among people that are sleeved. I also believe that the bypass is just a much better surgery as far as losing weight. It has been for me.

Good question! I all so suffer from. Hashimotoes . for 20 plus years. Its been a battle with weightloss all so..
I decided to have the sleeve done. May 26.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will help with weightloss. I'm sure it will. Taking our medication is vital to our life and our recovery.. Ps. I would not recommend a thyroidectomy ...leads to more issues..

Sweetsmith - Thanks for replying, let me know how the surgery works for you. I am in the approval process but due to insurance the earliest I can have the procedure is November 2020. I think I have ruled out the thyroidectomy based on my research that Hashimoto's is an immune response and your body will just move on to another auto-immune condition. Of course with my last ultrasound I didn't have much of a thyroid left and I have developed 2 additional auto-immune conditions so it may already be a mute point.

I’m only 4 days s/p, but I do have hashinotos and RA. I did fine with the preop liquid diet, losing 16lbs and another 2 since yesterday. I’m hoping to regain my energy after the soreness goes away. So far so good 😊

I’m only 3 weeks post op so I haven’t had my levels checked yet. But I was gaining weight no matter how much I dieted and exercised. My primary doc was the one who suggested weight loss surgery because she saw me struggling so much and my thyroid function was continuing to tank. I also have 2 other autoimmune diseases.

Including my 1 week pre-op diet I’m down 30 pounds.

hi there. i have been on hypothyroid meds for like at least 7 years. i too have struggled with weight and my primary recommended i look into vsg. i know some people develop GERD but as sleeve is the less invasive, that is the best option for many people, myself included. you can always revise if you have to, but many people seem to thrive after vsg though each case is unique in its own way. i've been back and forth but i think this is the best option for me and im sticking to my july 20 vsg date. good luck to you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
