hey my fellow sleevers, how often do you eat? 4 meals a day, 6 meals a day?

  2. Started by emlynch01 ,

I’m 14 days post op from VSG and have only lost 7 pounds. Is this typical? I’m getting my protein, water & exercise requirements. Started soft foods today.

  3. Started by Chelsea0604,

I am 9 days away from surgery. Did anyone feel panicky? I’ve been pretty calm about the procedure up until now. Did this happen to everyone? Was anyone second guessing themselves? Help me ?

I am new here! 5 weeks post op and have only lost 26 lbs. Is that good or should I have lost more? I'm 39 years old 5'8" and start weight was 267

  5. Started by PolahBeou,

I'm a 38 year old male and I'm 4 years and 2 months post VSG. I weighed ~270 at my 1st consultation and 254 at surgery time. I'm 5'5" tall and my goal weight was set at 160 with the understanding that I'd likely lose the 1st 80lbs over about 18 month and it would take strict diet and exercise to get to, and maintain my goal. As I type this I weigh 114lbs. I'm literally skin and bones and I cannot figure out how to gain some weight back. I've tried just about every protein drink and shake combo imaginable, even though every one of them makes me nauseated to the point that it's not even funny. I try to eat more every day but I have very little capacity. I pretty much…

  6. Last Monday I had my final dietician appointment & my paperwork was submitted for insurance approval. I was told it would be 2 weeks before I knew anything. So, I wake up this morning in terrible pain with my back completely locked up. I have no choice but to call in to work. I end up leaving a voicemail so I’m waiting for my boss to call me back. That’s when I noticed the accident my pup had on the floor (stupid bladder cancer ?). I’m trying to gently get down on the floor but my slippers end up forcing me into a very awkward version of the splits. (ouch!) Now I’ve got my hand full of tinkle-soaked paper towel, while doing the splits, when my phon…

hi everyone. I'm beyond frustrated. I am just over 4 months post op with gastric sleeve. I have lost close to 60 lbs already so I can't really complain how ever, I have been doing everything right and have not lost ONE lb in over 10 days now. In fact, I gained 1 lb as of this morning. I am doing everything right. Has anyone gone through this? I thought a stall wasn't supposed to last this long??!! Thanks!

Hey Yall, Up until I spoke with my doctor a week ago about my post-medications, I had no idea about a blood thinner. He made a comment like, "the nurses will teach your husband how to inject you." I picked up my medication already and sure enough I saw syringes. So my question is, is this norm and required. He said it's to prevent blood clots. He said I will have to do it for a week. Is this negotiable, if i make sure to "move." and walk. Sleevers, were you asked to do this?

  11. I am still figuring out what kinds of foods I can eat and in what proportions, but sometimes when I eat certain foods I get very tired afterwards. Like I have to lay down and sometimes I fall asleep for hours. Half protein, half veggie meals seem to work the best. But all protein or all carb meals seem to be the worst. Other foods I have tried randomly caused this too. I am not really eating off my plan, which is fairly balanced but calls for protein-based meals. I am not sure if it is because I am eating too much or too fast or if I just need to avoid certain foods for now. Has anyone else experienced this?

  12. So I meant to post something like this at my 18 month surgiversary, but first I forgot, then I got lazy, lol. Finally finished putting this together tonight (about 2 weeks late, oopsies), and seeing it finished, I wish I was more consistent/regular with taking pictures of my progress during weight loss phase...but I think the end result collage is still pretty cool. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could please provide their feedback whether they feel it is easier to maintain their weight loss post-sleeve, or if it is just as difficult? In reading the posts from many different members, it is difficult to tell what to expect in terms of hunger and restriction 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5+ years out. Are you able to eat the same amount as before your sleeve? Do you experience the same level of ravenous hunger as before your sleeve? I would primarily be getting the sleeve as a tool to help me stay on a diet of 1000-1300 calories per day for the rest of my life, and just want to get clarity about this. Are my expectations reasonab…

Hi everyone, I hope it’s ok to post here. I just signed up to hopefully find some additional support in this journey. I finished my 6th dietician appointment June 29 and currently waiting on insurance approval (I have UHC and they require a 6 month process and a COE.... ugh). Anyway, my surgery is scheduled for August 24 as the soonest date, but I’m nervous it may be postponed due to COVID-19. Of course those folks are more important but I hope you understand where I’m coming from. I was due to get married in September, but for everyone’s safety, we cancelled the wedding and will elope somewhere instead. I’m relieved as wedding planning is stressful and I find mysel…

  18. Hi I am new here. I had Gastric sleeve surgery on June 18,2020. In December when I first started seeing the Dr. I weighed 340lbs. By my surgery date I was 327lbs. As of last Monday I weighed 301lbs. I am 6'1". I was told to have the surgery or become paralyzed from the weight collapsing my spine. I started soft foods this week but am struggling to get the 80grams of Protein a day. This is a picture of me when I was about 345lbs.

Hello! I’m currently waiting for insurance approval for gastric sleeve surgery. The dietician gave me the post surgery food guidelines from week 1 through 18 months+. Weeks 1-4 are listed as pureed foods. Almost every article & forum post I read about this topic says puréed foods don’t start until week 3 in order to let the sleeve heal. I’m really worried that my stomach is going to stretch out right away. Can anyone else who’s been told to immediately start puréed food tell me how your recovery went? Thank you!

Hi everyone! This is my first post, I've been creeping around on the boards for months now lol, but I finally got my date! August 19th 2020! I am so excited. This has been a long process, over a year, plus with this whole corona thing I was beginning to doubt it was ever going to happen. A little about me, I'm about 5ft 3 inches tall and my current weight is 235. Not too far from my highest which was 242. I'm getting the sleeve. I will be starting a full liquid diet on Aug 5th and going to a clear liquid diet on Aug 12th. Any tips/ tricks/advice/encouragement/etc. Is greatly appreciated ? i have been doing so much research that I am feeling super prepared for …

I would love to here some results of what kind of results you guys and girls had from your surgery date to end of 30 days,3 months, 6 months, a year and so on. Have you been able to keep it off. I like to have a cocktail or two but know that will need to change. I am a 62 year old male, former athlete, I weigh 303 and I am 6 feet and a half inch tall. I probably looked by best at around 210. I have got a larger frame and would be way to thin at 175 I believe. I am told that your body will settle in to a weight that it is comfortable with. I will be having a lap-band removed that I gave up on a long time ago. I know the lap-band works for some folks just not for me. My app…

I"m new to this so I think I posted this in the wrong place previously. Surgery was 6/8. I drink 2 premier protein shakes and 1 premier protein drink a day. When I try to eat it seems like it gets stuck and I've thrown up 2x. I'm not getting the 600 calories that they say I need but I am getting 80 grams of protein daily. I've only lost 20 lbs and I think it should be more with getting so little in calories. I can't get much water down because I cannot stand it. What are you guys eating /drink on a typical day? Any advice is welcome as I think I'm doing this all wrong...

I’m a year and a half out from surgery and my doctor and I are very happy with my weight loss. I am also very happily pregnant (in my first trimester) and so far have had great medical care. I spoke with my bariatric nutritionist today and she mentioned that I should absolutely not lose any more weight and should work on eating more, ideally seven eating moments per day, gaining 15-25 lbs over the course of my pregnancy. I’m running 5k 3-4 times per week and have been continually, slowly naturally losing weight. I told her this and she said to just eat more so I would gain more weight. In hindsight I feel a bit like I wasn’t totally done losing weight. The shift from …

Has any been experiencing being really hungry after sleeve and actually able to hold down jello and water?? I’m so hungry for some reason and I thought that I would feel full quickly. It’s making the whole process really difficult that I’m feeling this hungry the day after surgery.

  37. I had my surgery 6/18/20 and I do have the nexplanon birth control implant and my periods have been so out of control. I spotted before surgery and keep having it on and off coupled with cramps and nausea to the point I don’t even feel like eating. Has anyone else had issues with period after VSG?

  38. This is my second day on the Soft Diet and so far so good except I threw up yesterday because I did not listen to the signal my body was giving me regarding Breakfast, which is that I should have just stuck with just the 1 egg Scrambled egg and not try to eat some fruit (1/4 cup) afterward. I AM doing better today and everything is staying down. Before the surgery I was on the Liquid Diet for 1 week drinking Carnation Breakfast Essentials Light Start (5 packets, 5 cups 2% milk and 1 Tablespoon Whey Protein Powder) everyday getting 40 oz of that in and 24 oz from drinking either Water or Crystal Light. I had my surgery on June 17, it's been almost 3 weeks, I don't have pain, just soreness, no nausea, had a bad 1st bowel, but ok since, and have eaten a small amount of potato and beans. Looking at my list I should still be on liquids, I don't have my follow up for another 5 days. My question is, do I stay on liquid or should I start testing foods. I still eat very little, but I was nervous I might be doing something wrong. Any advice would help. I also have energy for exercise--i know the restrictions, are there any light workouts post op. Also aside from beans, potato, and applesauce, is there anything else you all recommend? Thanks Sorry for being a noob

  44. Hi I am so excited my insurance (US Family Health Plan subsidiary of Tricare) just approved my sleeve. My consult was 6/10 then had testing done. Insurance was submitted Fri 6/26 and approved today! I had a lapband in 2010 and due to complications has to have it removed less the 6 months after getting it. I was 430 ish pounds post band. I lost 60lbs before surgery and have kept off most of my weight from that time. Currently in the 285 ish lb range. Now I am just waiting on a surgery date and hoping for August!

  45. I had my sleeve surgery with hiatal hernia repair 12/17. I’ve lost around 40lbs since then. I’ve kind of just stalled for a couple months but that hasn’t bothered me much. Since mid March I’ve had some pretty severe reflux that’s caused worsening hiccups upon waking and throughout the day and chest pain when eating. Turns out have a new hiatal hernia, severe GERD and esophagitis. I talked with my surgeon today and he’s sending over the paperwork for insurance approval for the revision surgery. I knew it was a possibility to help with the GERD and I’ll actually be quite glad to rid myself of hiccups all the time.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but having a good relationship with my physicians is of extreme importance to me. I work in the OR at my local hospital and had contemplated VSG for quite some time. I just felt I needed more information on the procedure... I talked to a co-worker (my surgeon) one day and let him know my dilemma. I immediately felt at ease! He explained to me all the pros and cons of having a gastric sleeve. He showed me before and after photos of his previous patients (whom had given him permission to do so) and had also explained to me in depth what all bariatric surgery entails. I knew then and there that he was the perfect fit for me!! From my very …

  48. Hello! I had my surgery on 6/11. I'm not going to lie, so far I'm really regretting getting this surgery... My pain is fine. Walking fine. It's when I swallow anything is the problem. I have a lot of gas/bubbles in my whole esophagus that I can feel down to my stomach. EVERY time I sip something. And sometimes the pressure really bothers me. The pressure gets so strong like I need to burp and sometimes I do or it goes away slowly. The pressure ends up in my upper esophagus/throat area. I haven't been able to get in hardly any protein. I'm still trying to concentrate on getting fluids in... Last night/early this morning, I felt I found something th…
