Morning everyone! Revised 5/27, feeling great, had post surgery visit yesterday - all is well, besides the hematoma - posted a topic the other day - but all is well .... surgeon isn't that concerned. Yesterday morning, I was woken up by this weird feeling in my chest, sat up fast and boom - acid vomit - light green bile looking. Didnt think anything of it till today --- same thing - this time I didn't vomit but the acid/bile or whatever it is - is horrendous. I thought, or I was hoping, that the revision would take care of this - and this is worse than before the surgery -- fluke? I'm on Prilosec, but normally that doesn't work for me, so the sur…

Hi everyone! Just had the sleeve done on 6/4. Quick question regarding fluid intake. Per my surgeon, the first two weeks goal is 64 ounces fluid and 45 G protein daily. Are you counting the protein shakes to your fluid intake, as well, or logging it separately? I’ll be on a full liquid diet for these next two weeks so I’m sticking to water, bone broth, Powerade zero. Made my first protein shake today and tolerated it okay. Still have trouble going from sitting to standing due to incision pain. Still feel pretty distended but no further gas pain today. Look forward to being on this journey with all of you!

Good evening, I haven't been here for quite a while. I thought I would ask you guys for advice or help. This morning I woke up and felt ok, until I dressed and left the house. That's where it hit, The sharp pain in my upper back, which I know to be gas. I've suffered with gas pain for years. The belching began and then I drank my protein shake and threw that up, it's now 5:30pm and im still belching, throwing up everything I drink, (not really eating today) and that horrible pain is still in my back. my question is, have anyone experienced this? I've drank tea, zero sparkling seltzer, took gas x, drank water, even tired ginger ale.. nothing is helping and I'm suffering. …

One of the main reasons I chose to have the sleeve was on recommendation from my OB-GYN. I have PCOS pretty bad, never wanted to do IVF because of $$ and also the hormones with PCOS are so bad I didn't know if I could stand more. My partner and I have not prevented pregnancy in over five years. I had an early miscarriage about 4 years ago, but nothing since then. I will be 40 when I hit one year post-sleeve and I'm a bit nervous that I'm too old. But at least I will (hopefully) be at a healthier weight by then and more able to have a healthy pregnancy. SO my question is , did the surgery help with fertility? Any older Mom's get pregnant after surgery? Was it …

Hey everyone. So I'm on day 11 post sleeving and I'm am always taking in more fluids than required, but no matter what ,when I eat anything other than clear liquids (protein pudding/etc) I feel like I'm dying of thirst. Its to the point where I don't even want to finish what I'm eating. I would gladly stay on liquids (really like the fruit punch crystal light protein drink), but I know I need to put thicker stuff in my stomach to prepare for puree thats coming soon. Has anyone one else had this happen to them? Is it just something I have to deal with? I know it probably sounds crazy, but crazy thirst is worse to me than anything thing else that I've felt…

Maybe a dumb question. I’m 3 days post op. I’ve been setting my 20 minute timer and pouring my 1/2 c. of protein shake to drink. So far I’ve only gotten down 1/4 c. at each meal before my timer runs out. The info from my nutritionist also says to stop when you’re full, don’t feel like you have to finish the whole thing. But EVERYTHING feels weird right now. It’s all so new and I don’t know what I’m feeling at any given point. Any advice?

Hello all. Just got my surgery date (6/22), and I'm excited/nervous. My main concern right now is how to tell my kids, specifically, my 11 year old, who is very sensitive, and tends to worry. Best to tell them now, so they can process, or tell them right before so they don't have much time to worry?

Hey everyone, My surgery is coming up in September! I just had my egd done on tuesday and they said everything looked good. I'm wondering how much weight you all lost after surgery and at what rate? Also one of my biggest fears is loose skin after the weight loss. Has anyone else struggled with this? I'm 5'7 and about 293 lbs.

Hi all I have booked my op for 18th April 2016 with Beautiful Beings in Czech Republic. Nervous, excited and scared are just some the feelings I'm getting. I've had relatively little information from BB, they've just said 'eat healthily' until I go and to take Omeprazole twice daily. There's loads of silly questions that keep popping up, like:- What should I pack? How will I get my bag in the storage unit above my head on the plane on my way home? Is there a shop in the hospital, how much Czech money will I need? Has anyone else been who can answer these for me, any help appreciated. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about the op but truthfully, I think i…

I was sleeved in May 2014. My top weight was 252 (the day of surgery) and I lost down to 165 in a little over a year’s time. I have since gained weight and am at 220. I’m extremely depressed about it, yet nothing I am doing is helping. I’ve read that some have undergone a re-sleeve after some weight gain and I’m interested in finding anyone who has had this done and if so, has it been successful a 2nd time and who has re-sleeved you? I moved to Iowa three years ago and can’t find anyone who does it. HELP!

My surgery is scheduled June 17th. I started my pre op surgery diet on the June 3rd. I have lost 40 lbs since my journey started in Aug 2019. I heard about people grieving food and I am starting to feel sad about the some of the food (maybe the amount) I can not have after surgery. What are your thoughts? Did you experience a food funeral?

Hi Guys, I'm booked to have my sleeve done in Istanbul at Turkiye Hastanesi hospital from Dr Erol Vural. Just wondered if anyone has been here before? I stumbled across an article about a 25 year old guy from England who died last December after having a sleeve in Turkey and now I'm nervous as hell ? Any success stories about surgery in Turkey would be most welcome. Thanks in advance

I am 23 days post op and on soft foods now per my doc. Ever since surgery, when I eat, my stomach never feels settled or “normal”. I wouldn’t say I’m nauseous, but it’s close to it. I can only eat very little. A few ounces at most so I’m not over eating. I’m waiting 30-1 hour before drinking fluids again. I thought eating soft foods might make my stomach feel “normal” again but it hasn’t. Is this just because my stomach is still healing you think? I force myself to eat because I know I need to, but my stomach feels the same before I eat and after I eat. It’s hard to explain. I can only say that it does not feel like a normal stomach feels if that makes sense? Most people …

I had VSG on 5/18. My insurance required a 6 month program prior to surgery, then I was delayed 2 more months with COVID-19. I lost quite a bit -73 lbs- pre-op (48y male, 6' 2", HW 382, SW 309, CW 301). Surgery went well. Surgery day was rough with gas pain, but discharged by 2pm day after surgery and feeling good now. I walked about a mile a day from day 2-5. Since day 5, I have walked 2 miles per day and do some resistance band training every other day. I lost about 8 lbs in the first week, but have been stalled for the last 4 days. Since day 4, I have been averaging 400-500 calories daily with 70-80g protein, ~30g carbs, almost no fat. Most carbs are fr…

Had VSG 4 years ago. SW 285. Got down to 215 within 4 months and never lost another pound. My weight would go down 3 lbs and up 2, then stall and restart. My surgeon acted like I was crazy when I talked to him about why I couldn’t lose consistently. Started regain 7 months post-op and now I’m back up to 250. My hunger never left, I was hungry day after surgery. I vomit still when I eat dense or dry foods and therefore sometimes avoid proteins for carbs to avoid discomfort and vomiting. Acid reflux is awful too. I wish I had bypass instead as I’m nauseous and uncomfortable every day either hungry, heartburn or uncomfortable. Thoughts?

It just isn't moving like I thought. Surgery weight 266, current weight 237, almost 30lbs, about a week out from 3 months. It's going so slow ?. So I've recently upped my water and my cardio (doing 40 min a day 5 times a week) eating less than 800 a day, usually around 700, sometimes give or take. Always less than 25 net carbs for the day. I've only lost 3 lbs this month. Any advice? I'm really eating pretty right, 90% protein the rest veggies, yogurt, string cheese, making good choices. Maybe calories need to go back to 500?

Hi Guys, I'm a 37 year old guy from Scotland and am seriously considering gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey through a company called Mcan Health. I have been overweight my entire life but am currently the heaviest I've ever been weighing in at around 275lbs. I'm only 168cm tall so am now classed as morbidly obese. I have issues with my joints due to being so overweight and am extremely depressed and thoroughly hate the way I look. I am just trying to find out if gastric sleeve surgery is right for me? I have tried every diet under the sun and while I do tend to.loseva little weight initially I always pile it back on and more! I would love to hear…

Hi all - I just found this forum and am trying to make a decision and thought it would be good to get insight from those who have actually gone through this. I have been researching surgery for quite some time and am ready to do it. I have it narrowed down to two options. My insurance excludes anything weight related so i am strictly self pay and thus limited financially. Here are my two options: Angeles Hospital Tijuana - Approved and preliminarily scheduled for July 10. Hospital reviews are primarily great from what i have seen. Slight language barrier. Surgeon Juan Corvala seems to have a lot of clout in the industry and rave reviews. Downsides are lack of f…

Hi All! I'm excited to say this is my first post. After a lifetime struggle of being overweight, I made the decision to have VSG. I'll be having surgery in Mexico this July. I've been doing my research and am motivated to keep myself accountable throughout my VSG journey. I have very little support in my personal life and understand it's an important resource to have throughout the journey. I am very happy to come across this ultra supportive site and thank you all that have contributed to the plethora of information available here. I was wondering if anyone could share advice/their story regarding their struggle with emotional eating and/or food addiction?…

It has been a journey, the last several months the hardest! The down 2 up 1 is driving me crazy after the dropping easier for the first 6 months. Now I struggle for 5 pounds a month. But today I'm going to sit back and enjoy the loss and feel very proud of myself. I never thought I'd be here a year ago. I was still trying to qualify for the surgery and gaining weight each day. Today is the start of my new me and new life. I can walk every day without knee pain and look forward to it too. For those of you thinking about it just do it. For those who think you are too old, I'm 73 and did it. Good luck to everyone out there and please stay healthy!

I am wondering about how long food stays in our stomach once we can eat real foods, not liquids and sliders, compared to a normal stomach. I read a normal stomach takes 4-5 hours to fully empty. I asked my surgeon’s nurse this and she had no answer. Also, can someone describe what their digestion felt like in the first 2 weeks. Should I feel lots of gas and acid with things like yogurt or cottage cheese?

I can not be the only out here who still has no clue how to cook small! I swear I am either dumber then a bag of hammers or just can not contemplate portion. Every time i Prep or cook for myself I end up throwing out over half. I just cleaned the fridge and there were so much wasted food. I Prep for two teenagers separate cooking and nothing ever left. I prep for myself and way over cook. You would think at about a year I would figure this stuff out? Nope So the lesson to all you about to do this, Shock and awe is coming on how much you can consume and how little you need to survive!

I had the sleeve nov 1,2019. 6 months and i have only lost 60 pounds. Is this typical? I was expecting a lot more by now. I was also wondering, when will i be able to eat solid food without throwing up? Just like i was warned, the chips and junk food goes down no problem, but I'm still having a problem at dinner. And i still have the acid reflux issue, does this ever go away?

I was banded in March 2011, lost about 70 pounds and over the past few years I've regained it all. I went back to my surgeon who advised that the band slipped and I had all CCs removed. I've been overall disappointed with the side effects of the band and know that I want, at minimum, to get the band removed. I've been considering doing the sleeve since my insurance will cover it. Does anyone have similar experience?

Ugh, I fainted this morning on my way out of bed. This happens about every six months. I had low blood pressure 82/49 and my pulse was 64. I have half the symptoms of hypotension: dizziness, fainting, fatigue, and problems concentrating. From the studies I read Gastric Sleeve can cause low blood pressure and it's really not an issue UNLESS you have issues like fainting. My blood pressure has always been on the low side, but not this low. A normal pulse range is 60 to 100 beats per minute. If you're sedentary most of the day, like me during the pandemic, your RHR likely approaches or exceeds the top end of this range. Well, mine's at rock bottom. My PCP and …

I'm 6 months post-op. I'm miserable and depressed, because I've been nauseous or throw up at least once every couple days. I don't have sugar in my diet, or carbs, and I take my vitamins daily , I drink water.. I had to start drinking protein shakes again because I'm not hungry for actual food, and yet I'm still sick 98% of the time... I have an appointment with my surgeon next week but they've done blood work twice and it was normal ... [emoji24] This isn't normal and I'm miserable. I cut out everything I thought was making me sick.. and yet I'm still getting sick.. am the only one ?!?! Ugh

Hello all! So my surgery is in two weeks and I’ve been very diligent with diet and exercise (lost 16 lbs already! Woo hoo!!). So I haven’t really had a food funeral, but just now at work I did a mini-food funeral and had about 15 Hersey’s kisses, a mini bag of peanuts and a bag of guacamole-flavored chips lol. None of the three are my absolute faves, but I just wanted one last time of eating whatever before embarking on this journey. I start the pre-op liquid diet next week, so I couldn’t do it then ya know. Has anyone else had a food funeral? If so, what did your “last meal” consist of?
