Having a crummy day and it's becoming a ritual: I do well until about 2 PM (I'm entering week 7), which at this point, besides having plenty of fluid intake (I'm talking 30-40 oz by this time) and eating the designated foods, I get the *worst* headaches. It's debilitating and often comes along with dizziness and body pain. I remember this feeling from back in the day when I used to try and cut calories and would be depriving my body. The only thing that helps remotely is for me to take a bite of some kind of carb-a piece of fruit, a bite of whole wheat pasta, etc. My body is obviously having an issue with the drastic sugar/carb cut, and I'm wondering if this is …

I had VSG on 8/19. Everything had been going well until I started my latest "phase" of food intake. As of Thursday, I'm in the "soft" phase and can eat ground/shredded meat and other things. Friday night, I had about 2 tablespoons - if that - of very moist shredded chicken and about 1 tablespoon of refried beans - I felt comfortably full. Since I had leftovers, I had about the same amount for lunch yesterday (in addition to a few teaspoons of cottage cheese for dinner, a protein shake, and lots of water throughout the day). When I weighed myself Wednesday (as required prior to my first post-op dr. visit that afternoon) I was 211. Last night, I literally felt heavier, so …

Hiya Can I ask how long the wait was between your initial consultation and actual surgery with the Nuffield? I have an appointment booked next week with the Nuffield and I'm hoping to get a gastric sleeve and I am seeing Mr Vinod Menon Also for the UK members, what did you do about informing your employers ? Do I have to tell them why I am absent and can I claim CSP ? Thanks

Today I start my week 2 diet which is my "puree" stage. I can have things like egg salad, some beans, cottage cheese. I dont think I have ever been so happy to try new food. I guess being on a liquid diet for 2 weeks pre and 1 week post is really starting to get to me....

I had surgery on 12/12/19 and I dropped 20lbs right away, then another 3 over the 3rd week. But I've been stalled for over a week and a half. I decided to stay consistent with my protein, meet my water goals and stay on top of my vitamins. After a couple days of this, I dropped 3lbs over night!! I know it's a small victory but after having surgery being stalled so long is worrisome. Anyone else go through this?

I’m still dealing with A LOT of pain at the big incision site. Every time I move, it feels like my stomach is going to rip open. Honestly, it doesn’t feel any better, whatsoever, than it did day one (surgery was Wednesday morning). Also, I’m having a lot of pain/pressure when eating & drinking. I realize this is normal, but I guess I didn’t expect it to be this bad or for the gas/air pain to last this long. It’s in my ribs, shoulders, back, etc. Plus, I’m achy from sleeping on the couch. I get comfy there, but end up pretty much in the same position all night, so I’m super stiff in the morning. I’m making myself move around & walk, but even standing for more than a minute…

Hello everyone. My date is September 28th for sleeve surgery, but I have an issue. I had a telehealth appointment 2 weeks ago and lied about my weigh in to my dietician for her to clear me. I am really 375 pounds And I told her that I weight 365 ! Insurance approved me and everything and I am trying so hard to lose weight by the 10th of September before I am busted and I am just scared that the surgeon will cancel my date. My question is ... If they see that my weight is 375 and not 365, will the surgeon cancel my surgery or still perform surgery due to the fact that insurance has approved me? I am hoping that this is a safe space and that there won’t be anything too har…

  16. ...with smaller clothing and other victories. I am struggling this month and being hard on myself because my weight loss slowed. Yesterday I spilled a glass of water on the floor and cleaned the mess without assistance. I stopped for a moment and thought about how difficult (impossible) that was a few months ago. I am not always happy with the numbers on the scale, but I am happy with the changes in my body and non-scale victories. The crazy thing for me is as much as I wanted to change, I realize I never planned for succeeding. I now weigh less than I have in 25 years and barely recognize the difference. In my head, I am still almost 400 lbs, which is where I …

  17. Those who have gone through the surgery did you deal with a lot of pain? I know a few folks and they said no.

  18. Is it possible? I'm not starving but I'm sure I could eat more i just dont! I must admit I am curious if I will get sick or feel really full if I eat a bit more. Drinking i can chugga chug! 19. I was looking into weight loss surgery a couple years ago and that is when I discovered that at 38-39 BMI I wasn’t fat enough and I didn’t have any co-morbidities. So they set me up on a diet program through my health insurance and told me I had to do that program for 6 months. I can’t remember the name of the program, but it was a diet similar to the food guide pyramid but eating a lot less. I was hungry all the time. Seriously, who do they think we are? We have a quart to gallon sized stomach and they want us to eat as if it is pint sized or even smaller. A set up for failure. I didn’t last but a couple months, barely lost any weight and was even more depressed. …

A like bit of history:. Procedure: ESG on June 19th Ht: 5 ft 7 in Age: 54 (female) HW: 194 SW:191 CW: 159 BMI: 24.8 Weight loss has been steady at 2 - 2.5 pounds/week (no stalls yet) but has started to slow. How did your trip go, procedure, and return flight/trip home? Any suggestions, ideas, after thoughts that would be worth sharing to help those of us (and loved ones) making this life changing cross country trip? Any one else scheduled for surgery at Blossom during week of Sept. 7th? would love to connect with others that are in same stage of the journey and process to a "healthier me"

Hi - I hope it’s ok to ask but I would like to see what kind of excess skin people have after the sleeve? I have 70 lbs to loose (haven’t had the surgery yet) and I’m curious what others have gone through. Did you have it removed? Did it eventually sort of get better? I know it doesn’t go away but I’m curious to know other people’s experiences. Thanks!

My surgery is tomorrow at 4 pm. I am a little nervous mostly excited. I think this is the first thing I have done for MYSELF in the last 20 or so years. Im 37, Started this process at 315, been working really hard and I am at 275. Not much support from my family except for a few of them. I really am just excited, and am not much of a sharer, so I felt this was a good step to share this with everyone. I hope everyone else finds themselves well in their journey!

  30. Hi Everyone! I had the sleeve done last Thursday, 8/27/20. Prior to the surgery, I was on the two-week liquid diet, with the exception being that I could eat 3 egg whites per day. I barely lost any weight on the pre-OP diet despite essentially not eating anything for two weeks; I lost maybe 5 lbs total. My surgeon told me that I did a great job on the liquid diet as my liver was very shrunken for my surgery. Since surgery, I have lost one pound, so I’ve lost 7 lbs total since starting the liquid diet. I know it hasn’t been long, but I am concerned at this slow weight loss. Should I be concerned, or will things fall into place? It just seems odd not to lose weigh…

I am two days out from my surgery right now. My doctor has me on a clear liquid diet for two more days, then full liquid diet. Question is this, I really haven't been able to get much down by now. Is that normal based on your experience? Yesterday, my first day home, I had about 6 oz of premiere protein clear. And some water. Thats really all I could manage. I am having 4oz of the premier protein clear for breakfast this morning, and will try to do 4oz at lunch and dinner time too. Is this normal?

I want to preface this with this: I do not feel that just one of these instances has me worried, it's the accumulation of all them all. So please bear with me while I try to explain and thanks in advance for listening. My surgeon I have chosen has excellent reviews. His office staff is so kind when I speak to them, but honestly I had to call them and remind them of things almost every step of the way. I shouldn't just say today-in general I dislike this train of thought: I'd be lying if I said that years and years, the better part of a lifetime, of social constructs has affected both how I feel about myself and the way people have treated me. I sometimes have the train of thought, that I shouldn't lose weight because I'd just be giving in to "societal pressures". That if I lose the weight, I'm not going to be able to tell who my real friends are, what someone's inner soul is like, or if men are really interested in me, or would have been if I was heavier. The last time I was involved with someone, I weighed 150 lbs. (I got REALLY sick for about 6 months,…

Hi - I’m very new. I have my first weight loss management session tomorrow (need 3 months doctor assisted weight loss meetings for insurance purposes). I’ve researched so much online. Two of my family members have had the vsg and it changed their lives. So I feel like I have a good grasp on what to expect realistically. I’m 4’9” and 190 lbs. Before I had my kids I was always 118-125 lbs. I’m not expecting to be that thin again and I’m ok with that. I’d actually prefer to loose slowly. What I’m scared of the excess skin. We won’t have the money to have it removed so I’m stuck with it, lol. I’m also terrified of going under anesthesia. I’ve done it so many times and…

I had vertical sleeve in 2014. I can't believe its been 6 years. I have kept off the weight of 105 pounds for that 6 years bringing back the help of a dietician when I felt I needed it. I have been on PPI's for longer to reduce acid reflux. I am just recently experiencing low white blood cell count. I have heard PPI's can suppress the immune system causing this issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Are there other medications not in the PPI family that were effective for your GERD issues? Any info appreciated...

Well....the title says it all really. I was wondering what the first signs of gallstones were for those of you who suffered from them after being sleeved. I've had a couple of episodes lasting a few days (a couple of months apart) of severe abdominal pain after eating anything containing even a little fat. I wasn't sick or nauseous and didn't have diarrhoea (though my stools weren't right). It didn't feel like dumping syndrome. I've tested my urine with a dipstick and there's elevated levels of urobilinogen in it. I've got a doctor's appointment, but there's quite a long wait for it, and the pain seems to have passed. I've had recent blood tests that show I've been g…

So last night I sneezed and it hurt like hell! I immediately knew something was wrong. The big incision instantly hurt terribly and has only gotten worse since then. Today I could hardly walk or even stand up straight. I called the Dr. and they put me on another round of Rx pain meds and an antibiotic (she think thinks it could even turn into a hernia ?‍♀️.) Dammit! I was doing so well for the last several days, and now a setback. Anyone else have this happen? How long did it take to heal? I'm also down 3# since yesterday as I know I'm not getting in nearly enough fluids or "food". I have ZERO appetite and every time I try to force myself to drink or eat, I get nauseous. …

Mornin'! Are there any actual recipes for the "soft foods" phase besides ricotta bake (which Pandemonium so kindly passed along)? I start the next phase on Wednesday and although I've had almost no appetite, I'm hoping that with making something a little more appetizing, I'll be able to get more calories & nutrients in. Currently, I'm only taking in about 300 calories/day - if that. Thanks!

So. I had my first appointment with the surgeon this past week. We have agreed on a sleeve gastrectomy. He said the surgery would happen in about 1 month since I'm self-pay. I have an appointment with the dietician next week and with the psychologist the week after. I'm nervous and excited. It's all I can think about. It's all I want to talk about but I'm trying not to drive my husband crazy. I thought this might be the place to talk. Anyone else out there in the same boat that wants to gab it up. I keep perusing these forums and reading all of the posts. I want to engage.

  46. I’m almost 8 months post op and to this point I have no issues at all. However, starting today any time I eat or drink ANYTHING I get horrendous air bubbles. I spend the next couple hours burping or trying to burp to release the air. I don’t have any feeling of acid but the “bubbles” are very uncomfortable and I have nearly thrown up from the pressure when I burp. Any ideas what this could possibly be? I haven’t changed anything. Eating slow. Chewing slow. Not drinking while eating. Literally nothing has changed.

I am so worried about being approved because the said gout and bleeding ulcers don't count for co-morbidity. So i put weight on to get to a higher BMI. I call my doctor about help because this extra weight feels awful and they told me to just deal with the weight loss surgeon that they can not help. Why did everyone i know need help from their doctors to get is passed but mine says i don't need it? Has everyone here who has had it have help from their docs? Thanks for any help!

I am only 3 weeks out and not drinking any soda at this time. But I have read conflicting thoughts on drinking soda. I'm wondering if it's possible that people who have the sleeve can drink soda, but with other bariatric surgeries you cannot. It seems that bypass, duodenal, and lap band, which are more involved surgeries which have stricter limitations on what you can eat and drink. I feel like these limitation get applied to sleeve patients as well, even when there's a little more flexibility with the sleeve. Then again, that could just be wishful thinking on my part because I really, really miss diet coke. Curious what others think. Thank you!
