My surgery is on Monday the 19th. Just have to follow a liquid diet day before and do a bowel prep. Suggestions for things on the liquid diet besides chicken broth? Thanks In Advance!

  2. Started by Hill_Billy,

Do you guys portion out your food with measuring cups or do you weigh it? Depending on the food, 2oz by weight can be a lot more or less than 1/4 cup, so I’m just wondering how you do it. I just want to do whichever is best for my long term success!

My surgery is in two days and I just received my negative covid test results which meant it’s officially feeling “real” to me. I’ve been on my liquid diet for two weeks and am getting so scared and nervous. Scared to death, actually. I’ve never had surgery before so that’s probably contributing to my nerves. Im sure surgery will go fine, but I’m most scared of the pain post-op and the recovery time/process. I’ve been reading everyone’s post-op stories and I hope I’m strong enough for this.

  4. I am 12 days post op and for the past 2 days, I haven't lost any weight. I am following the diet. 3 oz 3 times a day. I have been waking about 2 miles everyday. Also, I feel hungry more in the evening. Is this normal?

Hi All Did anyone who has had the sleeve struggle with sugar addiction before surgery? (Chocolate, ice cream, candy etc) If so- how did you manage post surgery? Did your cravings come back? Were you successful with the sleeve? I ask because I'm reading more things recently that the sleeve is good for folks who have trouble with portion control but not so much for those who have a sweet tooth. Any experiences would help. Also- I am aware that it's important to try and work on eating behaviors/emotional eating pre surgery and after- I'm just curious on the experience people have had. Does the sugar cravings/desire ever go away after time? Anyone successful kicking sweets fo…

Hello friends, I am in the process of svg surgery. I was ready until the day of pre op and bariatric class I had to sit through. I kind of felt that years down the line I might have issues and need additional surgery. Not to redo the sleeve because I’m not loosing weight or regaining but for scar tissue or Gerd or other reasons. If there is anyone that has had the sleeve for many years I would love to hear from you. I just want reassurance. I always wonder if 10,15,20 years from now there will be problems and what would happen if I don’t have half of my stomach... The thought of it scares me...it’s an important organ in our body... any information will help. Thank you!

In my most previous posts I've been lamenting on a weight gain three years post Weight Loss Surgery(WLS). No matter what I did the extra five pounds did not want to come off. It also lead to a spike in my A1c which put me back into the Type 2 category. I'm very fortunate to have friends and family that have had WLS after I had mine. We form an informal support group by calling each other up and helping to assist in times of need. Well, it was my time of need. Two of my fellow WLS pals directed me to a You Tube channel, Dr. Becky Gillaspy. They said her videos have helped them and it might spark an idea or two for me. I looked at her videos and two in particular ca…

I am just wondering if anyone had surgery alone with no family/friends there with you on surgery day? I am getting nervous about my upcoming surgery and won’t have anyone there at all. Is that really out of the ordinary? Will my surgeon and the nurses think it’s odd? Will I be okay without that moral support? Or am I worrying for nothing?

How much (amount wise, not calories) are you able to eat at 6 months? I’m able to eat about a cups worth of soup/softer foods at a time. I can eat about 2-4 oz of stuff like meats and veggies at a time. Is this too much? I’m afraid I’m eating too much and will stretch my sleeve.

Hi I'm a little over 6 months post op and my hair is shedding ALOT. My hair has never she'd so much and I fear I might go bald more than two handfuls of hair. I've heard this could be a side effect of surgery. Has anyone else experienced this? and does it ever stop?? Please help.

I’m almost 2 months post op and after surgery I was losing weight but now on my normal diet and even following my doctors instructions I’ve gained 8 pounds in a week and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I exercise 60 minutes a day and I’m eating what my doctor suggested. I don’t know if it’s stress because I am very much stressed out but I don’t feel the need to eat away my emotions anymore. I'm just discouraged and wasn’t expecting to gain 8 pounds in a week. I also was told I need to take a probiotic due to chronic constipation now. I’ve tried 2 different types so far. the first was a chewable but it tasted nasty and made me g…

Im new here...I'm 4 weeks post op VSG.Still on the soft food stage. My doc told me i should be consuming 5 small portion meals a day.Can anybody tell me how much time to give myself before having each meal? I should've asked. The only option they gave me was to schedule an appt with my nut. But, that appt is still 2 weeks away.

I am 25 years old 5’ 4’’ 240 ish lbs (~41 BMI) and I have been struggling with uncontrollable weight gain due to Hashimotos and PCOS for the last 7 years. I haven’t been told by any doctors that I should get a sleeve done and it won’t be covered by my insurance but I am willing to do financing. I will be talking to my endocrinologist tomorrow but I am afraid they aren’t going to want me to do it (Idk why I think I’m just nervous). I have already found a surgeon and location to do it Ive just got to make a final decision. Just looking for opinions!

Is it normal to have diarrhea during this liquid phase post op? I’ve had it for about 3 days now, all day long everyday. Just wondering if it’s normal because I’m not eating anything, just liquids. One protein shake a day.

  18. Hey all, It's my first time posting here! I really love how everyone here is so supportive of one another! I am having my surgery done on October 6th. Luckily for me the nerves haven't kicked in yet but I do think about my post-op results a lot. I am a male and I think my biggest worry with this surgery is that I will lose too much muscle and appear very weak after surgery. I haven't really done much work out since I assume I would just be wasting my time and energy only to lose all that I gained. I am thinking about getting a 10/15lb dumbbell and working my arms out with that over the 6 week period where no more than 15lb lifting is allowed. I know …

I want to back out I’m so scared of having my SVG surgery in 2 days. My doctor is going to be upset at me. I have Gerd now and I’m afraid to have it later. I don’t want to go through another surgery afterwards. If I were to do the sleeve would I need another surgery 10 to 20 years down the line?

Hi all, I've gotten insurance approval for my sleeve (no date yet) and have my endoscopy next week. I'm terrified!! I decided to have the surgery to help control my PCOS, diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. I think I feel a mix of normal fear but also embarrassment, I'm definitely obese (5'4, 206 lbs) but because I'm not morbidly obese some people that I've mistakenly told say that I should just 'cut out soda', or am taking the easy way out and I'm not. I have struggled with my weight for over a decade and my health is getting increasingly worse. I'm 42 and want to take control of my health and life before it further deteriorates. I guess I am just venting.…

Hi Folks, new to the forum, but have been on the journey for many years. I live on the Gold Coast, Qld Australia J and am considering the Sleeve. I was one of the first is Aust to have a Band back in 2000 so over 20 years ago !! Was placed by Dr Les Nathenson out of the Wesley in Brisbane, whilst I had great success with the band (just over 50Kg) I had to have the band removed after 12-14 months as a result of a Staf Infection, from the day of surgery I struggled with wound issues not healing properly and pain as a result of the infection. Underwent an ‘explority’ look and see surgery to wake and find that Les had removed the band altogether as there was a serious infecti…

Right after surgery I was able to lose weight faster than a speeding bullet, my restriction was more powerful than a locomotive and my metabolism could easily leap a tall building with a single bound. Today, my kryptonite is time. Time has made me once again a weight loss mortal. I am able to gain weigh even though my diet has remained healthy. I don't lose the weight gained as fast and I am able to eat more. What to do? I actually fore saw this problem. The first year of my WLS journey when I was researching and going through the process to be approved I went to as many group meetings that I was allowed to attend. I always picked the brain of the people in attendan…

  30. Hello, I'm quite new to this site, but thought that I'd try and find some Gold Coast girls/guys who have been sleeved or who are getting sleeved. I Would love to try and organise some group get togethers so we can support each other and share ideas. I get sleeved July 2nd by Dr Nolan at Southport. I'm getting very excited now and would love to hear other people's stories. Hoping to hear from others in the same boat in the same area. Lily

I am a seasoned sleeve patient. Yesterday I had a endoscopy because of pain in my stomach and uncontrollable reflux/gerd. Doctor told me I have a hiatal hernia with a twisted stomach. We did not have time to discuss this and I have a follow up appointment in a few days. Has anyone here experienced this?? I'm not sure how this happens? I'm not sure how you fix it, again I'm going to talk with my doctor in a few days, but I want to hear if others have had this experience. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am 2 weeks post- op. Stage 2- I have been getting liquids and foods in quickly and it isn't taking 30-45mins. Is this a bad sign?

  34. Early last week I was given the green light to move onto the "general" phase of the post-op diet. I've been extremely cautious and still mostly eating softish foods, but introducing more things slowly. The problem is that even though I'm over 6 weeks out, I still get pain every single time I eat or drink anything. It doesn't matter if it's plain water or a small piece of beef tenderloin - it hurts. I'm feeling under the weather today (allergies, achy, headache, etc.) so I wanted some chicken noodle soup. I removed most of the noodles and the dogs had a nice treat with their dinner, LOL! Even just the broth and soft veggies (VERY well-cooked carrots, celery, and onions) we…

For anyone having a gastric sleeve done outpatient - how painful was the ride home? I’m schedule 11/13 for outpatient gastric sleeve, but have a two hour drive home. Would it be better to drive home day of surgery while still somewhat under the effects of pain meds or get a hotel and go home the day after surgery? Opinions?

Today is my first day on the forum. My surgery is scheduled for Nov 3 2020 and I am looking for my surgery squad. Who out there has similar surgery dates and wants to support each other?

  38. So before I get started, here are my stats... Surgery Date: June 12, 2017 Surgery Type / Cost: VSG - Self Pay (~$19,000) High Weight: 216 Low Weight: 125 Current Weight: 150 Goal Weight: 116 Between relationship stress, COVID stress, and just life I am now up to 150. I need help to get back into the "sleeve" mind set. I REALLY want to avoid revision surgery. Any suggestions? My pouch has definitely stretched. I can eat a lot more than initially after surgery (not like right after obviously, but the first year or 2 after). Help!!

I had gastric sleeve Monday 9/28, stay ed the night in the hospital and flew home Saturday night. I'm absolutely miserable. Every sip of water, 10ml at a time, had me crying out. The pain almost feels like muscle spasms. Is this normal?

  40. Hello all. I was sleeved on 12/17 and, for the first time, I think I over-filled my sleeve. Not with food but with medication. I take several pills in the middle of the day. I took them one at a time but I think too close together. I'm in such pain. It's like waves of pain through my chest and radiating to the back. Any way to ease the pain??

One of the first questions that family and friends ask me now that I'm over 7 months' post-surgery is "How much have you lost?" I used to respond by giving them a number, but realized that the number didn't really didn't give them the whole picture. Instead, I now respond by telling them what I've lost...and what I've gained. I've lost my high blood pressure. I've lost my diabetes medication. I've lost my high risk of stroke. I've lost my high risk of heart disease. I've lost the pain in my knees, my legs, my ankles. But I've also gained a lot. I've gained new self-confidence. I've gained the ability to play tennis, ride a bike, ride a horse, go hiking…

During the time that I planned my meals post Gastric Sleeve I never ventured off the "reservation" so to speak. My diet has consisted of dense proteins as these things gave me nutrition and filled me up. The added benefit was, they also helped maintain my weight goal. In my last post I described a slight weight gain that I'm having difficulty taking off. I recently visited my surgeon for my regular six month check up and while all of my blood tests were good my A1c went from 5.6 to 6.5. Diabetes that I have lowered with WLS has come back. I realized that I changed my diet from all dense proteins to a mixture of dense proteins and fruits. Post surgery I did not eat f…

(sleeved 11/15/2019) TMI I know ... But does anyone have dumping syndrome with anything they eat ?! Anything I eat, my body is like NOPE and dumping happens.. I eat only certain foods because most things make me nauseous so I'm only eating like grilled chicken and some veggies (ones I can handle ) and my body still dumps everything... I've told my surgeon and the nurse said to just keep track of what I eat. I have. And I do. They also don't know why a lot of foods make me extremely sick.. anyone else have this issue ?! [emoji30]
