scheduled for surgery soon, the person who was going to stay with me a few days has been exposed to someone with covid, so i better stay away from them. if someone drives me home, and just checks in on me periodically, am i ok to be left alone? what are the chances that something would happen (dizzy, fall, illness) and need immediate assistance? Damn Covid.

Yes you should be fine. I only had someone to stay to take care of my handicap daughter for a few days. Still take it easy up to go to bathroom and back to bed and rest

I had someone drive me home and then I was alone through recovery and it was fine. Just make sure your house is set up with easy access to your diet and fluids and that you don't need to lift anything and you should be fine.

I too was alone after my daughter got me home and settled. I had set up everything so I didn't have to do anything but sleep and sit on the couch. She checked on me several times a day and came over on the third day to scoop litter.

You won't be able to lift anything heavier than 15 pounds for the six weeks so if you don't have children or pets that need to be lifted, I think you'll be fine. Good luck!

You should be fine. I live alone so I spent my first few days drinking my fluids and protein, peeing, and taking a short walk each afternoon. I'm 2 weeks post-op RNY tomorrow and feeling much stronger, did light loads of laundry yesterday and went grocery shopping today.

My surgeon kept me an extra day in the hospital because I would be alone at home. I didn’t have any issues but did take things easy & rested on the coach quite a bit. I had friends who checked on me & my neighbour knew I had surgery (not what) & was a shout away. Have everything you’ll need (foods, drinks, meds, etc.) for the first two weeks on hand. Besides the limitations in lifting/carrying things, I wasn’t allowed to drive for two weeks either.

Definitely. I had someone stay with me the first night home, even though I told her I was fine. But I didn't need her.

Just make sure to get all your RX meds filled before the surgery and you should be good to go!

You should be ok just make sure you have enough pain meds in case you start to feel bad. Make sure and keep a lot of antacids in case you start to get heartburn.

Barring any medical complications or issues you should be fine. I live by myself and travelled by myself for surgery, was in hospital for two nights, one night in hotel accommodation and flew home (flight was about 1hr45mins). I was in covid self isolation for 14 days on my return home due to my state border restrictions. Thankfully no issues and was able to manage quite easily.

As long as you have help, if you need it, and you are stocked with fluids, nutrition, meds & supplies, I think you should be fine. My family was around, but I preferred to be left alone.

I would have been fine alone, however my wife was with me. Just don't over due it the first couple of days.

Thank you everyone for your honest and positive responses! I've been wondering The same thing about being home alone. I don't want to impose on my daughters to come and take care of me. They are willing to but I hate to have them travel 400 miles with Covid and all. I'm looking forward to August 14 and my new life.

It's only 2 weeks out!!!!! I'm so excited for you! I am still waiting for my surgery date.

i had no problems being home alone, it was fine.

By the time you come home, you should be ok to take care of yourself, but if you have to care for others that will be difficult. I just had my gastric sleeve on the 28th and I have been just resting. I did an hour walk today but I think that was a little to much for my body to soon.
