Recommended Posts

Hi every one !

I used to smoke befor surgery , but i quit 6 weeks befor surgery and im now 3 weeks post op .

I really want to smoke again beacuse i think smoking reduces my anxiety .

Does smoking would be harmful after one 1 month of surgery ( i mean things that are related to the surgery not the common effects of smokin cigarette )

Does anyone smoke after surgery ?

Whyyyyyyyyyyy?

The chemicals in nicotine will hurt your new stomach lining you are still healing for up to 3 months...

Smoking makes recovery harder by:

  • stressing your heart
  • affecting your blood pressure
  • reducing oxygen in your blood and body tissues
  • damaging your lungs.

By stopping smoking well before surgery you will be more likely to have a faster recovery, better wound healing, a shorter stay in hospital and be less likely to need further surgery

Why have an op to make yourself healthier and then wreck it by resuming the death sticks again? Stroke, heart disease, diabetes , cancer , is it worth it?

As a smoker, I must must must say DON'T DO IT!!! Also, it doesn't reduce anxiety even though it feels like it is, it actually increases your heart rate which is the opposite of anxiety-reducing.

Smoking at any time isn't safe. Get yourself the book Quit Smoking Now by Alan Carr. Also smokers are much more likely to get nasty ulcers around their surgery bits!!

You've come 9 weeks without smoking, you're through the worse of it, just keep NOT smoking!

The relief felt after having a smoke is the relief of feeding the very strong addiction, not a generalise anxiety relief.

I think you are insane! I quit for about 3 weeks before and 2 weeks after and this idiot started again! Sure you can smoke but why? I regret ever starting again, You have made the decision to get healthy and you want to kill yourself with the cigarettes? Makes no sense to me at all

Get a dog or play a game or get meds for your anxiety - But smoking would be the last decsion and this is coming from someone who F@#cked up big time and started again

Why on earth would you want to start smoking again? I thought patients had to quit smoking forever when they had bariatric surgery because it adversely affects your stomach lining. You were able to go 7 months without smoking, that should have ingrained the new habit for you. Please don't smoke again, it's so bad for you.

I am a former smoker and have quit and started so many times. The last time I started up again I was so angry at myself for two years. It didn't do a thing for my health! News Years day was one year stopped and I plan to never smoke again. I hope you can get through this spot with out starting again! Hugs!

Sure, and I think you can start heroin at 12 weeks, then shift right to crack to get rid of any of those stinking hunger pains. WTF?

white knuckle through this. It gets easier the farther out you go. Quitting smoking is tough (I've done it many times - and quit for the last time 25 years ago), but millions of people have done it. Smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your health.

Don't do it friend. Please. I used to be a smoker who loved to smoke. So I understand wanting to and thinking it does your nerves good. It does not. PLEASE DO NOT START BACK. It is so dangerous for you after surgery. You can do this hang in there. It sends people are fussing at you but we care about each other here. We want each other to do well. Good luck

Try exercising instead, to reduce your anxiety. It is the most underutilized antidepressant and helps calm bouts of anxiety.

DON'T DO IT !!!!! I quit six weeks before my surgery after 15 years . I really wanted the surgery and I also had tried so many times to quit and only started back again and hated myself.. I am not 8 weeks out from surgery so the 8 plus 6 makes 3 and a half months since I smoked and there is no devil in hell that would make me start back again . please don't do it .. you will be so proud of yourself.. just get past the moments any way you can... it's sooo not worth it. please keep me posted . gonna follow you …..

Cigarette smoke can cause ulcers in your stomach lining and cause you to have more surgeries, endoscopies, and other complications after surgery. Nicotine is not an appropriate treatment for anxiety. See your PCP or a therapist for actual treatment for your anxiety, don't self-medicate with dangerous chemicals.

      6 Weeks Post Op!

My world is drastically different! I now walk 3 to 4 miles a day and I’m constantly getting up to move my body! .

I close my Apple Watch rings daily and about 4 to 6 days a week I double or triple them!

I have been released to have all foods. When I reintroduce some I need to start at 1 ounce to see how “Tiny Tummy” likes it!

I am not reintroducing sugars, coffee or junk! I did not pay close to $13,000 to fail! .

I went to get follow up bloodwork done this week and my numbers are all in the perfect range! .

This is my new world and I am happy it!

I didn’t see it either but I wish I had now for both the battle on court & the ball tampering accusations flying around everywhere now.
