  2. Started by Zury G,

My hospital gave me a card stating that I had had gastric sleeve surgery and to allow me to order order reduced portions or from the kids menu. I'm curious if anyone else received something similar and if they have used it. Not that I'm thinking of eating out ANYTIME soon but I was just curious.

I am due for my second COVID vaccine tomorrow and have heard from a couple people that if not super hydrated it causes headaches and I’m a little concerned because it takes all my might to get in 64oz and I can’t get more than that. Anyone else have issues with not being hydrated enough post surgery and side effects?

I apologize if this post is in the wrong category. I'm new here! I'm in the pre-op phase, almost done with completing my requirements for VSG. I've previously been a big fan of caffeine tablets. Like Jet-Alert or No-Doz. Never been a big coffee drinker. I would have about 100mg a few times a day M-F and a couple on the weekends if we were going to be busy. My husband is a huge coffee drinker and it seems I have 100mgs about as often and in the same fashion as he has a cup of coffee. Just wondering how everyone has been able to handle caffeine after surgery and when it was allowed (if ever)? How much? Around meals? Not at all? I understand that each doctor has different …

  6. Hi friends, A bit upset and sad. I’m at day 20 since my VSG and have only lost two lbs since April 3rd. I’m eating the 800-1000 calories my doctor asked of me but I’m not losing any weight. I feel like I’m doing something wrong or made a mistake. I lost 20lbs in the first 9 days but now I’m at a standstill. I’ve heard of the 2nd or 3rd week stall but 10 days sounds a bit much. I’m starting to wonder if I made a mistake. It’s really getting to me. I hear of all these people getting full after three bites of food and I’m not one of them. I’m constantly hungry and snacking on the meals I’m allowed to have Please help I’m really going through it right now. Mark

My dad always told me that when you cant stop dwelling on what people say about you, you are letting them live rent free in your head. Well...there was a comment made on Sunday that I cant seem to evict! My husband and I were visiting my inlaws in another state. We attended the church where my FIL is a preacher. We always attend church with them when we visit. Last visit we made was 2 weeks post op, so I had not lost really anything at that point. This was the first time the people at the church have seen me since my extreme weight loss. A lot of people made comments about how great I looked, and that didnt bother me at all. However, two ladies came up to my husband …

  8. Has anybody tested how much you can eat in one sitting? A friend of mine who got the sleeve told me that once you’re on soft foods or beyond that I should push the limits, so to speak, so I can understand what being full is. I can’t bring myself to do this. I’m only 17 days post op and I haven’t had any issues so I’m in the soft food stage. It’s difficult because I’m not hungry at all and also I have a mental block around getting sick. Where do people stand on this?

Hello All, I would consider myself like anyone else when it comes to Anxiety and stress meaning various situations can spike anyone's anxiety or stress levels. For some reason since my surgery about 3-4 days after I started feeling anxiety at an entirely different level and can not put my finger on this as I am not someone that experience daily anxiety before. It is not happening all day but in varied times for what almost feels like no reason not necessarily being set off by anything at all. Is this something anyone else went through? If anyone is willing to share I would appreciate it.

Good Evening my fellow sleevers. I am 8 days post op. I feel great, almost no gas problems. I'm able to tolerate food a lot better. My problem though is consistency of the food. I'm a weird person and food are appeal if the consistency is right. Therefore as you guys would tell the puree is not going so well haha. Taste great, but the graininess and or chuckiness literally makes me want to throw up. Due to this I don't feel like I'm getting adequate amount of protein. All that I've been eating is hummus; which gets me and doesn't get me, eggs, fish, and today i was able to tolerate chicken breast baked and cubed. The protein shakes does a number to my stomach and sends me…

Hello all, I am considering gastric sleeve surgery after absolutely ballooning over the past 3 years. I had a consult phone call with a nurse from the clinic and she seemed confused by one of my questions. My question was is WLS contraindicated if there is a history of severe anorexia nervosa. Since she seemed a bit confused by this question (actually, she couldn't seem to comprehend this, which was a bit comical), I ended up doing some research and it does seem there can be concerns following surgery about relapsing into anorexia. I have a consult with the surgeon next week and hopefully I will be able to talk with him about this a bit more. But did anyon…

I have sized out of my original pants and shirt sizes and I only have a handful of clothing in the next size down and almost nothing that I could wear to work. I have been continuing to wear my old shirts (size 3x, 4x, 28) but they're super baggy and look ridiculous now. Eventually I will have to stop WFH and go back to work, but I don't want to spend a fortune on the next size down clothing. I know someone mentioned thrift stores to me, but I don't believe I'm going to find a ton of pants and shirts that I'd want to wear in the size 24-26, pants or 2x shirts. I'm not quite at a 24 since the 26s are fitting well for now and at 5lbs/10 days I'm not going to drop cloth…

  16. So I’m 3 days post op on full liquid diet. Nausea and gas pains are mostly gone and I am able to drink a good amount of water. I find myself hungry and full at the same time. It makes sense - my body is experiencing fullness in my stomach and hunger because I’m consuming less than 500 cals a day. my question is - do those feelings sync up? Or will I always be plagued by hunger while my stomach tells me no?

  17. Curious... How long before you could eat your first piece of pizza? It seems as if each doctor has a different diet plan for before/after surgery. For instance, my surgery was 1/29/2021. I am on 2 weeks liquids to include Protein shakes, Protein Water, Water, Yogurt, Fat free/sugar free pudding and low fat ricotta. then i go to 1 to 6 months of soft foods, to include ground meat, deli slices, non-fat cheeses, etc then on to solids again. My main thing is pizza. I just want to know realistically when I will be able to eat it again. I don't want any lectures on how i shouldn't. I'm only wanting one slice vs the 4 or 5 I used to eat. So spare me…

I'm 34 years old and have been experiencing on and off issues with my low back for the last 12 years. I have some herniated discs and degenerative disc disease but it seems like most of my pain comes from inflammation and muscles as I don't experience a lot of nerve pain. For the most part I can treat with Motrin or Naproxen and relieve my pain to the point that it isn't a bother. Occasionally I have bad flare ups that require prescriptions. Part of the reason I wanted the sleeve surgery is the possibility of reducing this pain. I know it isn't a guarantee and some people have continued or even worse pain. But I'm hopeful that removing excess weight from my spine…

  21. Just finished final pre op appointment. Tomorrow is pre op labs then Wednesday is full liquids until midnight then clear liquids until arrival to hospital Thursday 7am for surgery at 9am. I have been looking for a thread from pre op to post op instead of having to jump around. So I am going to track my journey on this post and hopefully make it easier for the next person. I have stocked my frig and my pantry with clear liquids ready for week one. I am more excited than nervous. I have already purchased and received all of my vitamins which are a combination and are as follows based on content and what I personally need: BariMelts Calcium Citrate, Jarrow B12 sublingal 500…

Hello everyone! It's been a hot minute since I've posted or even visited this page. I need to rant about myself & I know this is a safe, non-judgemental place to do so. I had my surgery on 9/13/20. When I got home from the hospital after a 2 night stay, I was SO HUNGRY. I told myself I wouldn't be a casualty of going off the rails, especially right away but that's what happened. I hold myself fully accountable. I've most definitely stretched out my stomach although I know it's no where near what it was. My surgeon made my follow-ups for a month out then six months out. The surgeon's office had just switched from doing a month, three months, then six month follo…

  23. Hey all! Last Tuesday, I reached the beginning of the Phase 2 diet. I've been told that I can eat eggs (boiled, scrambled), non-fat yogurt, non-fat jello (I'm honestly not sure if that includes the gelatin and pudding...any suggestions?); cottage cheese; pureed Lentil soup; cooked and canned vegetables and fruit; applesauce; mashed avocado; squash soup; and mashed bananas. I don't eat Squash and Bananas as I've always hated the taste. Did anyone else find this phase a bit, well, confusing? I legitimately can only eat a few spoonfuls of any of this at any one time. For instance today, I have had about 3 or 4 mini-spoonfuls of yogurt, a cup of mandarin oranges in …

I am approximately two and a half years out from vsg surgery. I've noticed I still have a lot of restriction in the morning and early afternoon - one egg fills me. But in the evening it seems like I can just continually eat without getting the full feeling or restriction. I still follow the same nutritional plan - mainly protein with small amounts of vegetables. Anyone else experience this?

Has anyone else read this book by Dr Matthew Weiner? It seems like a really good plan once we can eat normal food again. (The book is not just for WLS patients). He may lean a little closer to vegan than I prefer but adding in more plant proteins wouldn’t kill me. Just curious about others takes on his plan.

  26. I am having my Sleeve surgery tomorrow and wanted to know what the length of your hospital stay was following surgery? I was told by the Surgical Nurse that called me today that some people go home the same day. The Medical doctor that did my clearance two weeks ago stated one night and my surgeon said one to two nights. Obviously its based on any complications that may arise but just curious if you don't mind sharing. Thank you!

  27. 10 days Post-Op and still on liquid. I notice if I drink more than three swallows of my protein shake or creamy soup I get a discomfort as it goes down or rather settles into my stomach like a sensation that feels like gas build up and the soup or drink is trying to get through and then creates a pressure that pushes it up so I feel this constriction and then need to burp to relieve the pressure is the best way to describe it. I swallow two or three spoonful's of soup as an example then wait about 20 minutes before attempting more. Am I eating too many bites at once? Has anyone else had this feeling and or is it normal and passes with continued healing? Just thinkin…

  29. Short version: I'm 45 yo, 6'3", 275. Pre-surgery eight years ago, I was about 440. Weight has plateaued for the last 15 months, whether I eat well or carelessly. A dietitian has recommended that I need significantly more calories and protein than I've been getting, but I'm having a very difficult time getting close to her recommendations though I'm constantly eating throughout the day, while still stopping when I start to get full. Having a very hard time exercising because of debilitating back pain. My questions: 1) What's your opinion on the dietitian's recommendations of 2,700 cal and 220g of protein per day? 2) How do you all (especially guys) get …

I do eat yogurt but man I just ate 4 oz of tuna salad and could’ve eaten more. I’m getting worried has anyone else felt like this? Thanks Mark

so i've beating myself up for a month for not being where my dietitian had indicated where i should be. as per her advice i should have been back on solid food this week + i just haven't been able to stomach it, so feeling defeated and like something is wrong with me. met with my surgeon this morning and he immediately shut down what my dietitian had told me, and clarified that he wanted me back on soft foods for at least another week. so i've gotta know, what's the worst thing a medical professional has had you do through your WLS journey?

  33. I am taking two calcium citrate chews a day as suggested by my dr but using the Baritastic app I realized that the protein shake has a lot of calcium and I am getting 6-800 of the 1200/ day without supplements. Should I be taking less or does that calcium not all absorb because of surgery??

I’m on my second day of the mush phase. For two morning now I have felt overwhelmingly stuffed from less than one scrambled egg- I hadn’t felt stuffed at anytime in the first phase so when stuffed hits, it hits! Now I get it! Today stuffed moved on to basically feeling sick all day. Then I had smashed blacks beans with melted mozz and avocado for dinner and was able to eat all 6oz without any problem nor did I feel stuffed. So... why do scrambled eggs affect me the way they did and not something that seems like it would be more filling? I’m 16 days post op!

  37. I was sleeved the last week of February and am now on the soft foods diet for the next few weeks. I’ve lost 28lbs in 4 weeks (am in a little of a stall currently). I’ve found that I can eat and drink more than I expected at this stage (approx 4 - 6 oz per “soft” meal). I spoke with my doctor’s office and they said it can vary for everyone depending on swelling, and that I should go by my feeling of fullness as the indicator. Basically, my body will let me know when I’ve exceeded my limit. I’ve read countless posts about people who can only eat 2 - 4 oz of food at this stage (or even as little as 3 bites) and I’m getting paranoid that I’m overeating and don’t want t…

I am post op 5 weeks and am having a lot of nausea problems. I can’t really eat anything and can’t drink those shakes not even close to getting 60-70 grams of protein. I have a Dr appointment tomorrow, sure hope they can help me. Also I don’t want to be near anyone when I am trying to eat as I have nonstop burping. The smell of most things also turns my stomach, I know some of this can be attributed to burning mouth syndrome but was wondering if anyone else was having these issues.

So can I please get some advise so I can make up my mind on what to choose?! I have PCOS and I want to lose about 100 pounds for my PCOS related side effects to come to a good halt. So maximum weight loss or as much as I can is definitely a key for me. Hence I was thinking *Bypass*, but then I have also followed some posters here and they h…

My scales had gone up on me a couple of pounds. I didn't think I was eating too much but dialed it back anyway.Hell I am not hungry, just eating because that is what we do! You "know" when you have lost weight but the scales are not moving? I knew I had to be losing but some how the scales were not moving. I have been lifting and may have put on some muscle weight. I decided this week I would go back to liquid. I did eat a scoop of chicken salad. I believe this forum helps you stay on track. ONWARD!!!......YEEEHAA!!!!

I keep hearing about food funerals and I know before I start my 2 week liquid diet I will indulge in at least one of my favorite foods, but I’m thinking about trying a self care binge instead of food! I think I’m going to get my hair colored, toes done, get a little sun, and maybe a massage. Whatever makes me feel good. I have always had food in my life, but not enough focus on me! I think it would be good to start the journey in a positive way rather then think of it as an ending when it comes to the food aspect. Replace food with self care!?!?! Has anyone else done this or had this kind of mind set before getting ready for surgery?

My surgeon hasn't been very responsive to my questions, just saying we'll get to this later, but I'm anxious because I can't miss a single day. I have bipolar disorder and missing any medication, especially when I have a major stressor in my life, could be a huge issue. None of my pills are extended release so I could crush them, but I've heard this can be really painful or unpleasant tasting. I take about 20 pills a day mostly right before bed. 46. Hi All, Anyone using a C-Pap following your sleeve surgery? I assume it is safe and my doctor said okay to resume use I am 6 days Post-Op. I have read a lot of conflicting intel on the web about using after surgery. My doctor specifically said that long ago the medical community felt it may be unsafe and cause leaks but he says he never recommends discontinuing until you can do so naturally. My doctors diet post-op for the first 5 weeks is a bit extreme compared to others on liquid diet only. I figured maybe everyone's surgeons have a different take on the C-PAP as well. Would love to hear from you on the matter if you would not mind sharing. …

The thing I have been dealing with the last few days is diarrhea though. The day after surgery, I actually pooped myself thinking it was just gas. At that time is was watery. It was incredibly embarrassing and I'm so thankful my nurse and CNA were more than understanding. Saturday (3 days post-op) it was very soft. Sunday it was starting to get more loose again.
