I'm 4 weeks post op. I feel like I'm failing. I'm having a hard time getting my water and protein in. When I eat it's a few times throughout the day and I haven't logged anything or measured it out like I should. I've been really struggling with the psychological aspect of it and I feel like I'm trying to work through that each day. I'm getting better and starting to do what I'm supposed to, but have I ruined anything yet? Im just scared I screwed up so early on and I'm doomed. I have no energy and feel like crap all the time. I'm over dramatic lol but I'm freaking out y'all. Help!

I start my pre op diet this Saturday the 12th. I get sleeved on the 25th excited but nervous too

  6. I had my VSG on 4/12, and I have to say, it’s been quite a rocky recovery so far. Lots of nausea, exhaustion, and a strange thing that happens almost every time I eat something. It kind of mimics heartburn, with hiccuping and a “stuck” feeling in my throat, but it almost feels like pressure from inside my stomach. Like my stomach is an inflating balloon. I’m following all the guidelines for puréed foods (taking pea-sized bites, eating over the span of about a half-hour, waiting an hour to drink anything, etc.), but it’s still happening. My doctor has not offered a lot of explanation, other than to say it’s probably just my stomach adjusting. Has anyone else experienc…

Can you drink coffee on pre op diet?

  8. I’m almost done with the dreaded 10 days of liquids and about to start the puréed phase. As others have said....surgery is a change to your body, not your mindset. I find myself dreaming about all the little cups of puréed foods I can make as others have suggested here: tuna salad, little taco/refried bean cups, Buffalo chicken dips (wout chips of course). A i’m just so scared that once I start eating real food and not just proteins shakes and yogurt I’m going to see the scale stall! I try not to weigh myself every day because obviously as I’m sure you guys can relate it becomes obsessive if it doesn’t go down! Any advice on how to overcome this and be able to e…

  9. Started by Dame21,

Any scale recommendations? My scale is giving me numbers all over the place. I started around 330 pre op. Now that I'm below 300, I can't get a good number on my digital scale. My weight ranged from 295 to 277 this morning. I usually try to get numbers twice so I can get consistency, but that would be 277. Yesterday it was 288. I doubt I had 11 pound drop in a day. Advice?

I have my consult on Friday, and also have done a ton of research. But I'd love inputs from others who have had it as well- what's your best advice, tips, and tricks for post op life?!

Since this surgery I have noticed that I have a lot of head hunger when anxious or stressed out but also when I am board. I do have an appointment scheduled with a therapist who specializes in disordered eating but It is not until the end of July. Just wondering if anyone has any tips or information about how to deal with this now.

Hey, guys well I am 10 1/2 years post-op. I've let myself go manage to lose 40 pounds again but I still have a good 65 to 70 minimum that I want to lose. I want to do a pouch reset but I'm not 100% sure how to go about doing it? I was just going to drink protein shakes and smoothies for a week or 2 but is there anything i really should do or know before i jump in head first? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi everyone! I was told that I can move past puree now, thank goodness. I am just nervous though because I feel like im just always stuck at the same weight. Does anyone have any websites or resources that help you come up with meal plans? I am going to try to make an appointment with a nutritionist next week but I just want like a solid plan for now. I guess they told me im in between phase 4-phase 5 which they mention is soft foods. I can have more food groups, including salad. But I am just feeling a little overwhelmed I guess. I am having a hard time knowing when im full and sometimes even when I feel full, I want to still eat everything thats on my plate. I am still…

  16. Hey y'all! I'm SO excited to go to my consult on Friday. They said I can get my surgery scheduled as quick as two weeks from now!! I'm so excited for amazing changes this will do for my health! I'm starting with a BMI of 32 (self pay), and curious what immediate results were like (1 month, 2 months, etc) for those who started with a BMI of about 30-35? I guess I'm afraid like everything else I've tried, this won't work as well for me (I know silly fear, but just being honest) and I'll just be stuck. Thank y'all!

Its not like its that difficult for me to drink water, my problem is that I have such a busy work life as most of us do im sure. Most of the time im working strictly from home but I am also a mental health case manager, so I do outreach clients out to their homes and sometimes a session can be like an hour long and I would literally forget to drink water when im with my clients. Today for instance, i went to visit eight clients and I didn't drink water at all while I was out I'm concern about my water intake, im hardly getting any in. Does anyone have any …

Hi all, while my surgery went great I don't really have much contact with my doctor so I have to ask all of you kind people here I had my surgery on 3/17 and started off at around 225-230. Right now I'm at 191 lbs - is this normal? I monitor my weight loss and between May 2 and June 2 (full month) I lost 9.2 lbs. I would love to reach 120lbs one day, do you think this is possible? Based on information I found online (such as gastric sleeve calculators) my goal weight seems almost impossible! What are your thoughts? Thank you all for answers in advance! ❤️

I had my VSG 5/17. To date I have had no nausea, no vomiting, no pain or discomfort aside from what I think of as normal healing pains. I was upgraded to puree a couple days ago, and am having no issues with anything i've tried. I don't need to drink any protein shakes to get enough in. I am following the dietician's guidelines with what to eat, and how much, and I can always eat my whole 2oz, although I do feel full by the end. I do feel some hunger and I'm still having wicked cravings for some of the foods I had before but have not caved in yet. My concern is that all this is just going too smoothly, I see all these posts about people not being able to finish me…

So I’m just entering the liquid phase where there isn’t much food except for soup and yogurt. My doctor says 1 serving of Greek oikos which is 5.3 Oz. Has anybody been told what serving they are allowed in this phase such as the cream of wheat oatmeal or soups? I’m assuming the serving size we are allotted is not what is listed on the can otherwise we would be stuffed! I would also imagine when we get to the next phase the amount of cottage cheese, tunafish and eggs with vegetables etc... just not sure how much we are supposed to be eating of each or we just stop when we feel full? Any help would be amazing! ?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone in TX has been approved for the gastric sleeve with a BMI of 32? Since getting injured and being on depression & anxiety medication, I’ve gained 50 lbs in a year. I’ve always have difficulty losing weight, and I’m growing more concerned with the large weight gain + my families medical history of diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, etc. I don’t have an medical diagnosis other then endometriosis, pcos, & chronic depression so I can’t imagine insurance is going to cover me - which is okay I guess. I’m just looking for a way to get help because I feel like my health is spiraling.

Hello, I had my surgery on 12/8/2020. I am 67 years old, 5"6. I was unable to walk due to a broken ankle and surgery to reconstruct it in May 2020. I also have thyroid disease and osteoarthritis in both knees. So having a gastric sleeve was my last resort. I began to gain weight at 40 and became diabetic at 45. My highest weight was 310lbs. My surgery was without complications. But I am not losing weight as I thought I would. There was no support from my surgeon after the sleeve. I was just on my own. So I decided to get counselling for my eating disorder and depression. This is a slow process. I am hoping for the best. I am thankful for this site as I know…

I have been doing great since my surgery on New Years Eve. I was losing weight well and only weigh myself once a week. I never had a stall and that is probably because I had covid and it hit my whole gastro system so I lost weight there too. I was still losing weight well this last week. I have lost nothing. I was like well here is my first stall and now I am still the same weight. I have added a frozen yogurt Yasso at night after dinner because it has been hot and I have not added a snack to my diet yet. I am wondering if my weight stall is normal at 5 months or if it is because I added something new to my diet that I should not be having. I never let my car…

  38. Hi all, I am having my VSG on Monday and I am wondering if I will be able to swallow/take my daily antidepressant medication? It is not in a capsule form but the tablet is quite small. I cannot stop the medication or withdrawal symptoms will occur and in any case, I need it. I am sure this is a common issue and so I was wondering what other people do? Also, to keep the breath fresh, are you allowed to suck on sugar-free mints that dissolve in the mouth? As for vitamins straight after surgery, do most wait a bit until they are at the puree stage to start them? So I’m 5 weeks out of gastric sleeve surgery and I have been vomiting bitter bile about once a week or so at random times. Thought it was a food issue at first but now I’m starting to think it’s GERD. Mayo Clinic said more than twice a week may be GERD. For anyone who unfortunately has GERD do my symptoms match yours at all?

Hi there any surgery buddies? Having surgery on 6/2. I was super excited to do the classes, get approved right away, and finally get a date since I have been waiting since December. I got my self ready shakes, protein water, vitamins and broth. Took 3 weeks off work to recoup. Now I am super nervous and having anxiety. I read so many good post and some bad. I know I shouldn’t be doing that to myself, but like to know what to expect. How are you all coping and getting yourselves ready for surgery?

I just wanted to put this out into the ether because I wasn't prepared at all for the length my hospital stay ended up being -- vast majority of people seem to be in and out. My sleeve was Thursday 5/20 at around 11am and I was in the hospital for 4 nights and 4 solid days total. I had some irregular heart activity coming out of surgery I guess (still don't have much detail on what that was about -- previous EKG was normal, all pre-op testing was normal), so the first day and night, they only let me have ice chips. Then on the second day my potassium was really, really low -- don't know why that was. They had to try a few different things to get my potassium up. Fina…

So the psychologist I seen before my surgery didn’t ask any questions about my eating habits and seemed more like a rubber stamp sort of deal. There were four doctors on the list though and I am thinking about seeing one of the others because I am two months out and I am starting to be able to eat more and want to eat more times a day than I am supposed to. I basically always want to eat when I am board and sometimes when I am stressed or anxious. Is this an eating disorder? Can a therapist really help with this. I am still losing weight but I worry as I can eat more and more at a time and once the hunger hormones come back that I may not be in the best place to win this …

4 months post op as of May 20th. I have spoke with my doctor on calorie intake, but I’m curious what others are/where consuming at this time. Especially carbs, my doctor doesn’t like to give me a particular amounts because she says it depends are where they are coming from. For example she says I shouldn’t be too focused on the carbs that come from fruit which I understand but would still like to know a general amount. I also feel like my weight loss is starting to slow down. Lol I’m constantly stressing myself out about all of this.

On Sunday I started my diet (2days early) and I have to say I feel great so far almost 4 days in. I am allowed 600 calories, but can’t seem to get more then 430 calories in. I drink a protein shake in the Am, one for lunch with a sugar free apple sauce, dinner is 2oz of high protein meat and 1 cup of vegetables. I am allowed as much sugar free jello, popsicles and broth that I want, but I can’t seem to fit anymore after the water and Gatorade zero throughout the day. I walk about 4mi a da…
