It's been almost 4 months since my surgery and I am down 35 pounds. I am trying not to get too discouraged with the loss of weight at this point and continue to be patient as I know it will come off, eventually. However, I'm feeling some type of way about my hair starting to fall out. I take all my vitamins every day and I eat enough protein on most days. How long will this phase last? Can anyone offer insight?

I am a food addict. I am also depressed. Is it a terrible idea for a sugar addict to receive gastric sleeve surgery? I have done OA before and am considering that as a good support group. Can any other food addicts share their experience with post-op recovery and missing the feeling they had from their food items of choice? I am seeking therapy help and support groups for this.

Hi guys. My 2 month post op sleeve appointment was today. My NUT said that I should be consuming only 300 calories a day and no snacking (not even a high in protein snack). Can anyone share their daily calories at the 2 month mark?

  6. In recent years I’ve noticed a spike in the “Hiatal Hernia Surprise surgery” stories shared on the forums. That’s when you wake up to your surgeon telling you he fixed a “surprise hernia” while doing your sleeve. What gives? My 15 years of suffering with GERD after VGS, (I never ate a Tums before sleeve) has lead me to extensive research on this topic. I’ve read ever medical paper, report, blog I can get my hands on. I’ve met with and spoken to MANY surgeons on this subject. THEORY ABOUT “THE SURPRISE” I have a sneaking suspicion that the sleeve surgery itself leads to a hernia in many patients. (See stats about De Novo GERD and VGS). The new stomach i…

Anyone have tips on speeding up weight loss? I'm 4 months out and have only lost 2 pounds in last 2 months. I get my minimum protein and water in. I walk more than pre op, do YouTube exercise videos a few times per week. Calories are 600-800 per day. I don't get what I'm doing wrong. Help?

  9. I had a consultation and the doctor has availabilities in two weeks- much sooner than I'd thought. I'm depressed, largely in part due to body image issues. I'm worried I will want to eat solid food on my immediate post-op liquid diets. I am also concerned about the depression that I am experiencing now and how it will bare on my surgery. Experience and hope welcome.

I survived my first family event today. The nice thing about Covid is I haven't had to worry about gatherings. But today was a special birthday for a relative so we had a BBQ with about 20 people. I was asked to bring an Angel Food Cake, so I made that....and I didn't eat the part I cut off like I normally would. I had one small bite, the rest went in the compost. I'm only 3 months out. Not everyone there knows I had the surgery, but no one commented about the fact that all I ate was a chicken burger (that I brought) and some pickles. I used a dessert sized plate like I do at home. Timed my bites, and as expected could not eat it all. I didn't have any of the o…

Hi everyone, I'm from Birmingham UK. I haven't had any surgery yet, just thinking about it but I was wondering if anyone has a problem with excess skin after a huge weight loss? Is it very noticeable? Is it worse than being over weight? Also, I'm 70 in April 2022, am I too old or vain for such a procedure?

My doctor warned me about post surgery depression as I really like eating/tasting. I am having guests tomorrow and my mum îs cooking good food. I am not hungry but I have saliva into my mouth for craving what îs around me. Îs my second Day at home after surgery on Thursday. I did not think how much difference this surgery îs going to do in my life... So any tips for handling food dispar?

  14. I was steered from the sleeve to the mini bypass by my dr. After meeting with a nutritionist this week and saw what all I will be doing daily with vitamins, minerals, supplements, shakes, B12 shots, etc, along with the complicated lists of veggies and other foods I can’t eat, I’m turned off with the mini bypass. Is it just as complicated with the sleeve and are there future medical issues that are different than with the mini bypass?

Hi all Had my sleeve on 19th, all good so far, BUT, has anyone else noticed they have really gone off things ? I now can’t stand taste of vanilla, and can’t stand the smell of my favourite perfume and I was a Diet Coke addict and have not even wanted one, not a bad thing I know, but odd, especially the smell

This is the first period of stress that I faced since I had my sleeve surgery. I'm an English teacher and It is time to grade research papers. Normally in the past, I would turn to sugar and lots of snack to help me get through the many hours of long grading in the next few weeks. When I had the band, even though I couldn't eat a lot, I could still eat sugar and the other foods that make me feel better and help me focus more. Now I am struggling to get through this without turning to those old habits. After 6 weeks I have healed up great, and I have very little restriction and no food intolerances so far. Unfortunately in this case, it is making it easy for me …

I'm 2 weeks postop right now but was wondering if I could drink by the end of July? I want to be able to celebrate graduations and birthdays with my friends again ):

Okay so I’m transitioning to regular diet in about three weeks and I was wondering if anyone has tried foods they would normally eat? Like pasta , pizza, salads, etc. my nurse said I should be fine to eat it but I’m the booklet my nutritionist gave me it said to avoid these things. I’m just nervous, I’m eating soft food and my stomach already doesn’t like much so I don’t wanna try anything I shouldn’t have but I have been craving pizza lmfao

I am curious how those who have had the VSG surgery lost weight on the pre op diet vs what they are losing after the surgery. Is the rate of loss the same? Faster? Slower? Easier? Harder? I have lost 21 pounds in a little over 2 weeks pre surgery and if this continues I will meet my goal really quickly.

  26. Hello Everyone! I am 4 weeks post op and was curious for those of you that are having an amazing experience on the losers bench, what is a day like in your shoes food wise? What's your breakfast, lunch, dinner routine? Favorite meals? watching carbs? Or just focused on trying to eat? I am just curious and would love to know your experience!

Hi friends! I am 3 mos out from sleeve surgery and found out I am pregnant! My partner and I are so excited. I am nervous about being a first time mom! . I have been a VERY slow loser, getting about 1200-1500 calories a day! Nothing like the “I can only eat 500 calories a day” stories I see on here - so I’m not as worried about food intake and neither are my doctors. I’ve never been this healthy! just wondering if anyone else got pregnant this quickly and how it went for you! Would love to hear stories. Did you continue to lose slowly? One big concern I have with surgery is the possible damage it could do to my metabolism. I had a decent metabolism before, but I just ate too much and it couldn't keep up with me lol. I have been looking at calorie cycling as a way to maximize loss while best preserving my metabolism. Has anyone tried it with the sleeve? If so, what pattern do you follow?

Hello everyone. I'm new till this app but so far love what I'm seeing! I had gastric sleeve surgery on July 17th, just 1 month 3 days ago. My 1st two weeks was amazing regarding my weight loss! I lost 20 lbs! But after that I hit a platue that has lasted 2 weeks and I'd actually gained 2 lbs during that time. I got very discouraged because I was sticking to the recommended diet but couldn't get past the thought that maybe I was just someone who wasn't going to lose the weight. This past week though I began losing again, although it's been extremely slow and nothing compared to the 1st two weeks. I've lost 3 lbs in a week and a half. Although I'm eating right, I'll admit I…

Hey I made this account bevause I been snooping around to see if anyone has been experiencing what I’m experiencing. I since decided to make an account because I am about 2 weeks post op and today I noticed that the largest incision looks a little open. Idk if I moved to much and broke it or if it was scabbed and pealed off in my sleep. I panicked and put a bandaid over that piece and contacted my home nurse but I doubt I’ll get a response on the weekend. It’s not leaky or anything but the bandaid did have a little bit of blood not like a lot but enough to leave a dot on the bandaid. Should I be worried?

Hi there Has anyone been diagnosed with eosophageal dysmotility post VSG?

  33. Ok ready to post my final before and after photos. Before is around 350lbs, 3 or 4xl shirt. My highest ever confirmed weight was 356 and this was very close to that date in 2014. The other is today, wearing a size medium shirt. Surgery was June 12, 2020, weight 334lbs, 6’4” BMI 40. I hit this weight (193) about 10 months post op and have been maintaining fairly evenly since (up a couple down a couple etc). For anyone on the fence about surgery, do your research but don’t let the scary stories you read here overwhelm you or give you a false sense of their frequency. Yes, bad things can and do happen in any endeavor. No one has a crystal ball, but the statistics of healt…

Hi there I am 8 months PO sleeve and I seem to experience sometimes what I would think is dumping - diarrhoea, upset stomach, feeling like I have a rapid heart rate, but it only seems to occur the following morning after I have eaten. Would this be dumping syndrome or something else? I am finding I’m getting a run of upset stomachs (3-4 days in a row) sometimes without having eaten anything I think would be a trigger. Any insight Is appreciated :)

So today, for the first time in over 20 years, I am below 200 pounds. I am still astonished at my results in such a short amount of time. In mid-April, I weighed 285 pounds. Every joint in my body hurt and I had high blood pressure and slept with a C-pap machine. I had surgery on 5/18/21, and today, almost 3 full months later, I weigh 198.6 pounds. I haven't used or needed my C-pap for the past several weeks, my blood pressure and heart rate readings are on the low side and I have so much energy. I really wish the best for everyone on this forum and hope you're all one day as satisfied as I am with your results. This has been a total life-changer. God Bless all!

Y'all I am stalled! I had surgery July 26th. 24 days PO and I have been stalled since about Sunday the 8th of Aug. What can I do to get past this? It is driving me insane!!! I almost at 2 weeks of no change.

  37. So, I have gained 40 lbs back since my surgery five years ago. I find myself eating for comfort again and have basically forgotten (and broken) ALL the rules of the bariatric diet! I welcome any encouragement, tips, and advice. I remember the keys to early success were: protein shakes, water, extremely small portions, balanced healthy diet, walking, and taking supplements. I quit taking the bariatric supplements after a couple years and uh... well the small portions have gotten bigger (I no longer vomit). I crave sweets and I allow myself to eat them! Ugh... I still take regular multiple vitamin but nothing else other than prescriptions for depression, thyroid …

I'm 2 1/2 month post op. I've lost a total of 36lbs since surgery day. I get frustrated and even little sad when I get on the scale and it's saying I just gained almost 5lbs in 3 days. How does that happen?

  40. Finally broke the 300 mark, and now weighing in at 296 as of today. First time in the 200's in 20+ years. Never thought i could do it, the sleeve is the ticket. I have started walking in the last two months, and i'm up to 3.5-6 miles a day walks. When did everyone else start lifting weights? A friend of mine told me she thought my face lost a lot of weight. Until i saw the pic on the left in my facebook memories, i didn't believe it. Now i do.

So, 9 months out and in maintenance. I thought I would have ham and eggs this morning on an English muffin. Looked great. First one in since before surgery. I love them. My new stomach does not. Two bites and I was immediately nauseous. Weird. Ate the ham and eggs and was good. Not ready for carbs I guess? I eat very few, and never bread, pasta or other bad ones. Thoughts?

Just wondering what y'alls experience has been like with weight loss after gastric sleeve surgery. My surgeon said to expect a 50% weight loss of excess weight. My excess weight started at about 120lbs, which means i can only expect to lose 60 lbs of I trust what my surgeon said. That's disappointing. I'm curious as to what some of you have lost, that have had surgery 6 months ago or longer? Respectfully, Renee Z [emoji304][emoji160]

Hey December surgery people! Our group hasn't posted much lately, I'm hoping it's because of all the success and lifestyle changes. I've made a few friends and one that I text with regularly that we continue to push each other and to hold ourselves accountable. My story has been met with highs, lows, weight loss walls and amazing success. I'm -122.2 lbs since I started the journey 1/1/20 and -73.1 lbs since surgery 12/2/20. My weight loss has certainly slowed in the recent month or 2, but overall it's trending in the right direction. I'm still not able to eat solid red meat (steak) and regular milk without severe stomach aches, but overall the experience has been life cha…

7 months and 6 days post-op, and I’ve hit my goal! I lost around 70 lbs pre-op (and over 50 of that before surgery consult in late October of last year - COVID scared me into finally getting motivated to really do something about the weight). Pictures are from fall of 2019, second is about 2 weeks post op, and then the last is from early this week. Thinking of adjusting my goal down another 10 lbs or so as I still want to lose some more, but this is the lowest adult weight I have been. Need to start saving for plastics. I will say, the changes are more noticeable now - even 5 lbs can make a difference. I also started doing strength training about 10 weeks post-op (o…

For those who are comfortable talking about it, my dr said statistically because of my bipolar I will not lose as much weight as those who have the same surgery and do not have bipolar. I honestly thought he was wrong but my weight loss seems to be slowing to a crawl and I am still 16 pounds from the top of normal BMI range. I know that some people never reach a normal BMI but I had hoped to get there plus a little cushion for the bounce back weight. I was always thin until I was 25 so I hoped I’d be one of the lucky ones. I am just curious to hear others stories firsthand.
