I decided when I started this journey that I was going to take before photos and progress photos. Here is one month into my new life! I started my pre-op diet 30 days ago, surgery was September 13th. I’m 5’4” and started at 242, I’m now 218. My biggest piece of advice (especially if you struggle to see your own progress in the mirror) is TAKE THE PICTURES.

Its hard to believe it’s been 6 months since I “went under the knife”. What a 6 months it has been. From nervousness to excitement, from regret to happiness. The emotions have been all over the board. It definitely hasn’t been easy and it’s really only just began. I wanted to share a little of my journey thus far for folks that are considering the surgery, just had the surgery or anybody else that can relate or possibly get/stay motivated. Like most, the beginning was very difficult. I did a ton of research before the surgery. I thought I was prepared. But as the old adage goes, “you don’t know until you do it”. I struggled with drinking enough water/fluids, no…

Hi. I am still in the post op liquid phase. Surgery was September 23. I keep hearing people talk about chest hurting. Is that a sign you've over filled your pouch or drank too fast? I'm still trying to understand what I am feeling and why.

Hi everyone! It's two weeks past my sleeve, and I thought I'd post some of my observations. THE GOOD - Down 27 lbs. from surgery weight (357 to 330) - Down 2" on my neck (!), 3" on my waist, 6" on my abdomen - Had to size down in shirts and do my first closet purge - One blood pressure medication cut completely, the other at half dosage - Able to meet protein target of 80-100 g per day and liquid goal of 64-96 oz per day THE BAD - Brain fog and fatigue (will discuss with my surgeon later, could be vitamin deficiency) - Sick to death of liquid diet but have another week of it left - Itchy dry legs THE UGLY - C O N…

Hi All, I have decided to get the sleeve, and am having it done privately as I can not bear the thought of attempting to diet for another 3 years for the NHS, I've already done 11 years! 2 slightly niche questions: Any info on how long it took from 1st consultation to surgery privately, either with or without insurance? Has anyone here used Nuffield, how was your experience (my consultation is in Tonbridge with Dr Hamouda)? Thanks

First and foremost I understand that stalls happen and patience is required. I'm only 4.5 months post so I know my journey is unlikely to have stopped this early. That being said I'm at a weight I've gotten to before when I've been successful with dieting. Twice prior to surgery I was able to lose 40-50lbs and get down to right around 200lbs and then that's typically when I started to regain. So I do think this is a bit of a set point for my body. Is there anything to do in a stall beyond waiting it out? Increasing protein, decreasing carbs? Or is it best to just stay the course and let my body do it's thing? I think it's extra frustrating being so close t…

This is for those who have lost more than the weight required to hit the top of the “normal” BMI (I know - BMI is awful - but it’s a measurement that everyone is aware of). I hit the top of my normal BMI by 6 months post-op and have lost more since then (which I wanted to). I did not have any stalls until I got down a few lbs below the top normal BMI. I had selected 145 as my original goal because that was the lowest weight I ever achieved as an adult (through weight watchers) but have since adjusted to 135 (and quite frankly, feel like with my belly I could even adjust lower, although I think plastic surgery will be needed to really get things where I want). However,…

My doc told me that I would not be able to have caffeine again. I'm okay with dropping soda but I had coffee the other day and I forgot how much life it gives me! Anyone know the reason we shouldn't have it? I'm wondering how hard and fast this rule is? I'm 7 months out of my surgery for reference. I'm thinking one cup in the morning can't be that bad?! Maybe?! My next appointment with my doc isn't for another 5 months.

Hello all I had the sleeve almost 2 years ago. About 6 months out I began having severe gas issues to the point that I simply cannot control it. It is severe and constant. I've been to 2 gastro doc specialists, one at UCLA. I have had every test under the sun, some twice. They can offer me no help. Nothing helps. I've quit my job and have virtually become a hermit. I feel like my life is over and greatly regret my decision. I'm trying to find anyone that has had this issue also. I'm desperate! As I said, I've been thoroughly tested and do not have any common gut issues out there.

Just had my Sleeve surgery today, got there at 7:10 am and was on the way home 11.30. I did not or have not had any nausea at all. my chest hurts, the walking every hour is tough , because i want to sleep. nothing to eat for two full days now, will try a protein shakes tomorrow, they wanted me to do liquids today. doing OK, but on the way home noticed all the fast food restaurants. and when i got home, everyone was eating in front of me, and there were some nice looking muffins on the table. I'm working on not letting that bother me, but I'm still not hungry , time to take some drugs and get some sleep.

Hello all. So I've gained a 6 lbs back. I'm not really doing anything different. No bad carbs, and at around 1500 calories a day 10 months out, after losing 120 lbs in 7 months. I feel like I've leveled out, but am worried about this sudden gain. Is this normal? Thanks, Joe

I went from 249 to 163, which was lowest probably for a day. I am 181.2 today, Sept 21. I can't get out of the 180's. I have my 2-yr checkup and I feel so embarrassed. I fear that breast reduction is the only thing that will get me to goal. I went from 48 to 40; I should be feeling good about that. BUT I'm a 40-I. I want reduced to a D. How can I get out of the 180's? My Dr wanted me at 150 at my 2-yr, and I failed.

I had VSG 8/31/21. So far so good, except I started feeling hunger yesterday. The surgeons said that VSG surgery removes the portion of the stomach that triggers hunger, so I’m very disappointed/worried. I’m hoping this “hunger” is actually just recovery pain that my brain is misreading as hunger. Anyone else feeling hungry one week post-VSG?

I had my VSG on 5/10/21. In my first few months, I had the rapid weight loss that is pretty typical, but in the last month or so, I have lost very little. I know that stalls are normal so I am not really stressed about that, but I have noticed some old habits starting to creep back in as my weight loss has slowed. I am doing less tracking, more grazing, eating bigger portions than I should, and making worse choices in general than I was a few months ago. So, I am here now looking for someone that is in a similar stage in their journey to connect with and possibly help me get back on track and keep me accountable. As I am sure many of you experience, my family i…

Had VSG 5/5. I was losing really easily and fast until about a month ago. Stopped at 229 pounds…. eating 1,000-1,200 cal per day plus some exercise. Maybe I am eating too many carbs? Nutritionist said limit to 70 grams of carbs per day, 100 protein, 26 gms fat, 25 gms sugar. So multiplying out. that is 70x4 plus 100x4 plus 26x9 plus 25x4….. 280 plus 400 plus 234 plus 100. That equals 1,014 cal total per day. I have a lot of injuries but I think I really need to add strength training. Plus I agree with another post; I do need to get a food scale and weigh everything I eat. Looking back at MyPlate where i record my food intake, I can honestly see that i am ea…

I was wondering if anyone here takes methotrexate pills for RA and if you have any trouble with them after surgery. Did you need to stop methotrexate prior to your surgery? Were any vitamin adjustments needed since you probably already take extra folic acid? I take prescription folic acid twice a day to help offset the side effects from the methotrexate. I am checking with my doctors, but I’m wondering what others’ experience has been.

I’m more than 2 months out. I was doing very well keeping everything down and eating all my proteins and staying healthy. But recently I traveled with a group of friends and we partied for 3 days (I’m not usually a drinker but I had a couple of drinks from wine to shots) Since then I can’t keep most of the food down and I feel very nauseous. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is my stomach swollen or something? I’m very worried. Should I go back to liquids?

I'm four years into my surgery this month and here are the things that I've learned. At the beginning most will feel mixed emotions. Euphoric due to rapid weight loss, concern due to stalls and minor setbacks and trepidation due to looking at how others are doing and you feeling you're not doing enough. The one feeling we all have will be a renewed confidence in ourselves due to the fastest weight reduction you might have ever experienced. We attain our goal weight. We then transition into making wise food and lifestyle choices. No longer are we to eat the things that made us obese and unhealthy such as the three C's, Cookies, Cake and Candy. We will get more e…

I've been with my partner for 10 years. It's been a hard 3 months so far. I've lost a total of 43 lbs since surgery and I want to lose another 60 or so. But my partner keeps on telling me that I shouldn't lose thatch weight that I already look horrible, that the back of me already looks flabby and it I keep losing weight I'm going to look like s#$%. It can get sad talking to him. I've been overweight my whole life so hearing him say these things can get depressing. I don't know why see the positive in this process.

Hello great people I hope you all are well...I'm in need of some serious help...I joined this site in May of 2018 before having gastric sleeve surgery in August 2018....I was doing great feeling really good for a long time but the past year I have been having some serious tummy issues. First I would like to tell you all that I am seeing my doctor that did my surgery but he sends me to my gastroenterologist to have certain test done plus i also see my primary care at least every 5-6 months so I'm definitely on top of that, So my problem is several issues, I have chronic gastritis, low magnesium which can be fatal, I've been in the hospital at least (4) times already this y…

Working in project management for a global company, I create and manage project schedules with major and minor milestones. While going thru this process, I wanted to create a milestone schedule for my "project", Me! I am coming up on my first major milestone, that I set for the first 30 days since surgery. BMI under 30. As of today, my BMI is 30.3 and I am 3 days from 1 month post op. I may not meet the 30 day milestone date, but only two more pounds and I will reach my 1st BMI milestone. This is a big deal for me, as I have not been under 30 BMI in over 15 years. What is/was your 1st major milestone? ?

Hey Everyone, I hope you're doing well. Here's a bit of background on me before I get into my current dilemma, if you don't care about that, skip to the TLDR at the end. I'm a 27 year old man and I got my surgery last year. I've always been heavy (the last time I was less than 300 lbs was in elementary school) and I wanted to live a longer, happier life. I talked with my doctor and she said that Bariatric surgery was the best option for me. I went to one Bariatric clinic and was basically treated as a number, so after six months of prep and almost $1k, I left them and went to a Bariatric clinic that a family friend had had good luck with. I had better luck …
