It’s going to be 2 years post op for me in Jan next year.. I’ve been doing good when it comes to my vitamins, nutrients, protein overall food intake. (or so I think) I have been dealing with dissociation and anxiety like crazy for a few months and have even gone to the hospital to see how I’m doing. All the tests i’ve gotten back have been nothing but positive and clear… yet I keep leaving my body with blank mind mumbling nonsense, constantly over emotional, and am tired of this feeling of regret. I would love to know if anyone else is dealing or has dealt with this before? before or after surgery. It’s only been extreme after my surgery.. thank you to whoever has s…

  3. As of this morning's weigh-in, I am officially halfway through my weight loss journey—started at 392, wanted to lose 152 lbs., have now lost 76 lbs. Here's hoping the second half is as smooth as the first half! Thank you all for your guidance and support. I couldn't be doing this without you.

Hello, I have my Sleeve surgery scheduled for December 22nd. A little worried since I'm older. Looking for advice.

  5. Started by Sharon B.,

Hi all, I had gastric sleeve on 23 September 2021. I have had stomach pain all day. It is a pretty sharp cramp. Called my doctor's office and they said just take the mylanta and famotadine and see if it settles. I had beans last night, mashed in the food processor. could this be just bad gas pain? Mind you, I had plenty of gas last night from the beans, does this mean no more beans for me? that my stomach is rejecting this particular food. I have had canned refried beans and no pain, but yesterday I made a pot myself and put them in the food processor.

This is going to sound strange but ever since the surgery I experience bad spams/pain in my left shoulder blade; happens mostly when I eat or drink; I talked to my surgeon about it & he said it's something to do with having to move my diaprahm during the surgery & a nerve? Anyway I was told to take the indigestiion meds prescribed; no nausea so far but this is driving me nuts!

Curious what you all have come up with for your mushy food phase? Looking for ideas so I don't get bored with tuna salad every day. Thanks!

  8. As the title says, I’ve developed pain that is not sharp, not dull, just nagging coming from under my left shoulder blade. It’s gotten worse in the past few days, I don’t have gas, I am bloated Because I’m about to start my period. I have just started a new birth control. I’m also well hydrated.

Hi everyone! I will hopefully be getting my sleeve early November, and I was wondering if any of you post-sleevers ever just do a bite here and there if your favorite junk foods (cookie dough, Publix’s sub, chips, sip of margarita…. You get it). Of course I’m planning on sticking to all the rules so I heal properly, but I’m thinking long term here. Do you feel satisfied with just a taste here and there of your old favorites?

  11. Hey all, Coming up on 5 weeks po and just started back exercising at F45. I definitely need a good protein shake post work out but I find EVERYTHING is disgustingly sweet now. Does anyone have any recommendations for less sweet flavoured or unsweetened high protein shakes? I have tried the atkins one ?, bodiez protein water ?, musashi ??, Coles perform whey and pea ?? and unflavoured wpc from Coles ?, as well as the boomers wpi (once I got used to it, was kind of the best but still fairly gross). I just don't want to buy a huge packet and not be able to stomach it!

  12. I am a person who always wants to know the "why" behind a rule (unfortunately!). So, as I've slowly been progressing through my surgeon's plan (still on pureeds for two more weeks, and I'm 7 weeks out), I've started wondering if we will always have to drink protein shakes. I hate them, they taste gross, and the ingredients list is like 5 paragraphs long full of things I can't even say - besides that, they're full of carbs and often high calorie. And if we do have to always drink them, why? Why can't we meet our protein goals through eating real food? For example, an egg and a morningstar breakfast sausage patty is 16 grams of protein and 150 calories. The protein sh…

  13. I will like to start of with saying Hi, I’m jazaysha. I’m a 19 year old that is 370 pound, and I’m tired of it. Ive been like this for too long every since the Risperdal lawsuit from j&j. Even though it’s been since 7th grad I was apart of that, I struggled with loosing weight. It just got worse and worse and im the biggest in my family!! I got approved and I’m excited but what makes me super nervous is that I’m afraid that my sleeve will make me sick all the time. I have a terrible phobia about throwing up, because in the past I had a eating disorder as I struggled with the weight in the past. Now I gained a fear of just vomiting or just nausea in general. Hi All - I am about 4.5 months out from VSG. Overall, I'm doing well and couldn't be happier. I am starting to hit a plateau but I know it happens and I'm ok with it. My question is.... What did 4-5 months out look like for you? What were you eating? Physical changes? Any foods you couldn't tolerate at this point, etc. There's a lot posts about what happens immediately after this surgery and what long term looks like, but I'm curious about other people's experiences at this point. Thanks for the feedback. Have a great day! Jenny

How do you deal with holidays that involve food traditions that are not healthy? This will be my first Halloween without eating any candy. Thanksgiving and the December holidays will follow shortly. It feels like I am being left out when my family eats treats and other unhealthy foods, that are part of our traditional celebrations. I won’t give in, but the mental part is hard!

Pre-Op? In the First Month Post-Op? One-Three Months Post-Op? Three-Six Months Post Op? Just curious. Many people lose quite a bit on the pre-op diet a month or two, or more, before surgery. I would assume that the pre-op clear liquid diet would yield more of a loss, but some people have just as much quick loss on the clear liquids post-op, leading up to solid foods. Please chime in - thanks!

Hi! I’m new here, and new to this lifestyle. I had surgery September 21, 2021 (Hiatal hernia repair, VSG, and gallbladder removed). I had moderate pain discomfort a few days after surgery but then felt great until 2 days ago. On Friday I started having diarrhea (more than 5 times a day). That continued through this morning. I know diarrhea is common after such surgeries, but is it normal to take so long and to last so long? It’s been hard but I feel like I’ve kept myself minimally hydrated to compete with the diarrhea. I have started to struggle getting in my protein shakes and puréed food literally is turning my stomach. Is this normal? I'm not in “pain”, my incisions…

I am currently 1/2 way through my first all- inclusive vacation in Punta Cana since surgery. We go every year as we have a membership at a resort. It s a challenge for sure. I am walking an hour every morning at sunrise so I get my 10K steps in before breakfast. I am having some mixed drinks and this is the first week I have gone since surgery in February not measuring food. I am curious to see if I lose, maintain or gain weight this week. I was on a long stall prior to vacation so maybe it will just shake up my system back into weight loss. It is wonderful being here 109 lbs lighter than last year at this time. I’m scared I’m developing bulimia. I’m 6 months out and down 87lbs. I’m so happy with my success and want to continue to lose (ideally I’d like to lose about 40 more). Lately I’ve become so scared of stretching my sleeve. It started with me eating past my point a little then throwing up because I was uncomfortable. Now I’m doing it daily if I eat more than I should. I know I need help but I don’t even know how to start finding the help. I’m scared I’m stretching my sleeve and scared of the consequences of throwing up so frequently but I can’t seem to stop. Please help or tell me how you got over this if it’s happened to you.

Hi All, Just a quick question - I'm 7 years post gastric sleeve. I've lost 70kg & kept it off. Recently, I've had some pain under my left rib sort of area & Dr Google tells me this is where my stomach is located [emoji854] Just wondering if anyone has had any complications so long after surgery? Chances are I'm just over reacting, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask!

Hello I had my surgery on 8/16 so far so going a little slower than I expected. Went back to work this week we are going two days a week at the moment. Struggling with trying to eat every 2.5 to 3 hours and taking enough food to make it happen. When warming up fish at work it just smells so loud. Looking for suggestions on what to take for lunch. I don't eat meat just fish/ seafood. Thanks for listening.

  28. Hi! So I had my surgery august 20th- I’ve lost about 35 pounds. Down from 325 to 294.. yay! I was cleared to eat regular foods at my one month post op appointment. Typically I eat a banana and peanut butter in the morning and drink a protein coffee… eat some sort of small protein rich lunch and a very small dinner. Within the last few days my appetite has reduced to the point where I can barely get a protein drink down. I’m wondering if this is normal? Every time I go to eat something I immediately regret it. I get anxious and nervous. I cut out all added/ natural sugar and caffeine thinking it was maybe a symptom of dumping… but that does not seem to be what’s happening.…

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of my sleeve surgery. I am so glad I did this, and wish I'd done it years ago! It hasn't been without struggles, and I had hiatal hernia surgery in June 2021 because my sleeve had "slipped" up into my chest cavity. Still... all is good, I am SO MUCH BETTER since having the hernia repair, and I have kept all my weight off. I am just happy, and want to say to those with doubts... YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Way back in the Bad Old Days, I was on whopping doses of not one, but two blood pressure medications, one of which had a water pill (diuretic) baked into it... and still my blood pressure was usually about 140/85, so barely controlled at all. When I had my VSG, my primary care doctor told me to take one dose of the one with the water pill the day after surgery to help me pee out the surgery fluid and then leave off taking it. I continued on the amlodipine at 10 mg. A week and a half later I had my blood pressure taken in the office and it was a bit low, so my doctor started me on 5 mg a day, but told me to monitor my blood pressure each morning before taking it. If i…

  32. I have had zero pain. Up until today. I had surgery on the 8th so just over a week ago. I’ve lost zero weight. I’m following the diet perfectly. But today, I get a pain that’s just under my left side rib cage. Sometimes it’s on my left side where my ribs are but deeper. I heard leaks can be a complication. I’m terrified of that!

Hello all, I waited a while to post this and just left the doctors (and I’m a little frustrated) so I finally decided to reach out via the forums. I am eight weeks postop and I have been dealing with constant but random bouts of nausea for three weeks now. They do not coincide with eating. They happen before I’ve even eaten anything and sometimes even directly after eating things. The best I can describe it as is a hunger pang. I am on omeprazole and have been for the entire time and that fact alone made my doctor almost completely rule out an ulcer or anything like that in my actual stomach. They thought it was gall stones maybe, but the ultrasounds came back negati…

  34. So it’s been two weeks since I had my gastric sleeve. I have been feeling really sick and vomiting after each meal. Went to see a doctor and he said that I might be pregnant. I took a home test and it was positives took another the next day it was also positive. Thing is, I’m on my period. And bleeding heavy. Not to mention I had a major surgery, many X-rays and tons of tests. How could this be?!

Back in December of 2019, my wife (Girl friend at the time) decided to have sleeve surgery. I did the typical "You know this can kill you right?" and various other vocal concerns. But, knowing she is intelligent and having trust in her, I told her she has my 100% support. I got to see her go thru 6 month program, see all her paperwork and homework, and also learn while she learned. She had her surgery on Sept 20th of 2020. Since then I have been able to learnt he eat better myself since I did not want to eat terrible in front of her. As weeks went on after her surgery and I see her pain going away, and her smile getting bigger, I started thinking. Maybe I was all wro…

Today, I am officially one week and a day post-op. The first 2-3 days by far were the worse and even caused me to have “buyer’s remorse”. But for anyone thinking about surgery, do it! It gets a little easier each day. You do have to learn to be patient with how your body initially reacts to anything you ingest. Is the diet post-op boring? Absa-freaking-lutely! But I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thus far, I have lost 15 lbs, I am astonished. Those 15 lbs have allowed me to drop a size to a 16. I haven’t been able to get down to that size since 5 years ago, before I had my first child. Everyone has those shorts or clothes that you hang on to b…

I am a 50-year-old man who struggled with my weight most of my life, starting with being an overweight kid. No diet or exercise program produced tangible, good results. At my annual physical in March I weighed in at 405 pounds. I take no meds, and up to this point, my most serious health issue has been sleep apnea that I was trying to handle with CPAP (mostly unsuccessfully). Given my alarmingly high weight, my doctor recommended that I look into the bariatric surgery option. I eagerly started the process, looking at it as a once-in-a-lifetime chance for getting back to normal body weight and gaining a quality of life I have not enjoyed for a long time. The bari…

Most things I've read here say that people were not hungry at all after WLS... I was hungry from about the second day. All the time, except right after a protein shake. Then people said it would get better with solid food. I started soft foods a few days ago, but although I feel tightness in my chest and back, I feel hungry right away after eating. I was not given an amount to eat ("no one can tell you how much to eat") but we were told not to eat for more than 30 minutes. This morning for breakfast I ate 1 scrambled egg with 4g of cheese and 1/2 oz (14g) of deli turkey. Last night for dinner I ate about 1/3 cup of refried beans with a bit of cheese. How do I know i…

I swear I had a near death experience this afternoon with two small pieces of Brisket. Just whining, but oh damn, I won’t be having that again for awhile. What the heck? I’ve had it since sleeve, but WHEW, this time the new stomach said “oh hell no” and my entire digestive system began its revolt. It’s best I don’t go into details. just for those of you new to the tool. It’s great, works like a champ if you work the program. But whew, every once in a while you get a harsh reminder that sometimes foods you used to love will bite you back!

  41. I am scheduled for surgery September 25th (original date was July 3rd). What are your dates and stories or concerns? Mine is so overwhelming, I felt the need share the happiness, blessings and fears. ?Pre-op labs, upper GI, and stress test start September 23. My biggest fear is not passing one of the tests to be cleared for surgery. I had to reschedule once already due to newly revealed diabetes and liver disease that showed in my PC doctors labs (the rule is only one time 2 weeks prior to pre-op date to reschedule or I loose my deposit). 42. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on December 29, 2020. I had been consistently losing weight until about 3 months ago. I have been at a 3 month stall and even gained about 3 pounds. I saw my surgeon yesterday and was a bit ashamed because I had gained. It was totally my own fault. I had stopped drinking my protein shakes and my appetite seemed to ha e picked up as well. I had began to eat more foods and I believe that has had a huge impact. From there, I began some unhealthy snacking and craving foods that I used to eat and gave in to the temptation. I had been stressed from life and work. Been having back spasms and unmotivated to workout. Today, I will begin my protein s…

  43. Hi Everyone, My name is Emma, I'm new to the forums and I'm hoping to find some answers. I'm 7 weeks post op and have never had a pain free day since my surgery. Any time I eat anything at all I have debilitating abdominal pain after around 5 minutes, and often times I vomit all of what I consume. When I say consume, I'm not talking a vast amount of food, I mean around 2-3 spoonfuls of mashed food. I do manage to drink water (I don't drink much else, I never really have) and that stays down, but 9 times out of 10 I get a very painful and bloated abdomen once I have drank. 45. So I ended up back in the hospital last night... nothing to do with my bariatric surgery. A ?spider bit me and caused a huge flare of cellulitis. (I'm home now and now just on oral antibiotics rather than "nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure" IV antibiotics.) But while I was there I mentioned I was on a liquid diet due to bariatric surgery. I should have been more specific... a tray showed up with sugary Jell-O, clear broth (which I did drink), and regular ol' apple juice. My dismay must have been obvious because My Super Awesome Nurse frowned a bit and said, "Didn't you say you were on liquids because of BARIATRIC surgery?" loud enough for the nutr…

We have a huge thread about NSVs (non-scale victories) but I wanted to share a scale-related one. As I posted in another thread, I had to go to the emergency room. Once I was in intake and triage, of course the first thing they said was "hop up on the scale please." And for the first time in my adult life, I didn't dread it. I didn't dread a nasty "guess what we found those 8 pounds you lost and they brought their cousins" number. I didn't even empty my pockets. It felt so liberating.

I still have issues keeping certain foods down, though, and I need to figure out what I can eat without them coming back up. I can go and get 4 pieces of fatty tuna sushi on rice and be perfectly fine but have a bite or 2 of pasta, and I am in the toilet a few minutes later. Any tips on trying to incorporate more food into my diet? To be totally honest, I am afraid of getting too much of the carbs and gaining weight back. I know everyone says plateaus are common, but finding myself getting disappointed. I am following my plan, eating enough protein, watching calories. Maybe not enough water? trying though...
