Hi all, I have been looking into the gastric sleeve and had my consultation an hour ago. The surgeon informed me of having to stop smoking forever. I have an addiction to food and also smoking and I am now debating wether or not gastric sleeve surgery is right for me. For health reasons I know I will be so much better off with the surgery but as I currently look at food as a comforting coping mechanism aswell as my smoking I can’t help but feel like will I think it’s the wrong decision if I do through with the surgery. Basically what I’m saying is any tips or advice if has anyone else been in the same situation where food is their addiction aswell as s…

I’m in my 5th week since my gastric sleeve, I’m the uk we have fluids for one day then puréed for 2 -3 weeks then soft foods. I was told it was my journey. I moved on early to soft foods as soup and purée was going straight through I’m finding it hard still learning a new way of eating. I can’t eat more than 2 -3 small spoon mouthfuls before i feel full and it feels almost stuck. I just wondered if it will get better that I don’t have to wait so long to eat in between mouthfuls I’m waiting 30 seconds, I think the most hardest thing to get used to is this new way of time it takes to eat a little food.

Hello! This is my first post on a weight loss surgery forum. Just seeking advice for some developed bad habits. I am officially one year post op from my gastric sleeve. I am 5'1 and 133 pounds now and 10 pounds away from my goal weight. At this point, I've found it very difficult to loose more weight. I'm looking for advice on how to get back in gear. I've found that I'm eating through the entire day, and I'm constantly thinking about food. I didn't even do that before surgery. After my operation, I wasn't getting enough calories, at max 300-500 a day, even 6 months out. I just couldn't eat a lot during meals and never felt hungry. My nutriti…

Anyone get married while still in the weight loss time frame and purchase a wedding dress? I'm getting married in May of next year, almost exactly one year after my sleeve surgery. I need to choose and order my dress as soon as possible and I'm not sure what to do about the size. I'm currently a standard size 12/14 and so far in the dress I like best a bridal size 18 fit almost perfectly. However, I have no idea how much more weight I may lose in the next six months. I know dresses are easier to size down than up in alterations so I'm afraid to order even a size down in the case that I don't lose any more weight. Anyone been through this? Or in general have thought…

I’ve been able to maintain at 203 lbs, after dipping as low as 190. Still to hold off 112 of the pounds, Metformin has been huge. It really stops the cravings and satiates me much faster. Just wanted to check in since it’s been a while. One more thing, I still listen to my sleeve and almost never stretch it, nor drink 30 mins before or after a meal. Cheers everyone. I hope your journeys are wonderful.

Hello, I’m scheduled for the gastric sleeve on December 10th in Mexico. My insurance does not cover this procedure and the only way that I am able to afford it is by going to Mexico. Has anyone had the surgery in Mexico? Did everything go well? Is anyone scheduled to have the sleeve done in Mexico?

As the title says, I had my VSG surgery about 3 months ago. I’m barely eating anything because when I eat it’s so uncomfortable. I chew my food extremely well, I don’t drink liquids 30 minutes before or after eating… I follow all the rules. But every time I eat I feel like I have to burp and I never can. It’s very uncomfortable. I do not over eat at all. In fact I’m eating less than I should just because I dread the discomfort. I’ve tried taking gas-x and it just makes me want to burp more but I still can’t.

I created a blog entry with the same content below here, but I feel like no one ever reads BP blogs, so am posting in the forums for good measure. Sorry for the dupes! Also sorry this is so long! ---------------------- It's been 3 years, y’all. I’m a 5’2” female and was 235 lbs & 45 yrs old at the start of the 2 wk liquid diet. Didn’t lose any weight prior. I was on high cholesterol and blood pressure meds, diagnosed with fatty liver, pre-diabetic, peed every 20-30 mins, and snored like a freight train (so said Mr.) Day of sleeve surgery: 223.2 lbs No recovery issues, but I became dumper on sugar (still am). I got off my meds, eliminated li…

I have my sleeve procedure next month in about 3 weeks. Getting nervous! I want to hear from others like me so I know what to expect, part of me is nervous I won’t lose any weight and the other part of me is scared of getting so skinny my husband or I won’t recognize myself. I have a BMI of 35.5 and qualified through insurance due to pre-existing conditions. I’m 5 foot 2 inches and weigh 199 and would consider myself as having a larger natural frame. When I diet hard, I can drop about 20-25 pounds in 3 months or so, but it always just shoots back up. I have read that I could get down into the 140s or 130s even and I can’t remember the last time I weighed th…

Hello All, I had my sleeve surgery exactly 7 months ago. Have done great with weight loss and no complications. I had my 6 month follow up last month, and surgeon said I was doing great. He asked if I was hungry, I said no. Fast forward just 2-3 days, and I started grazing. It has gone on for 3 weeks now and in scared. I'm not hungry. I can graze even after meals when I feel full. It's like a few bites of fruit or almonds or now its carrots. I weigh daily which isn't an emotional issue for me. It's just a check. I am at goal so I'm not trying to lose more, but I'm not wanting to use grazing to maintain weight either. I was going to ask at my 8 month follow up ap…

I am scheduled to get the gastric sleeve tomorrow morning and like the worry wart that I am, I am still doing research to prepare myself as much as possible. I have a few concerns/fears mostly related to recovery right out of the gate that I'm hoping I can find answers to. I know it will definitely vary person to person, but I'd still like to brace myself for what's to come.. or rather, what *could* come; Not so much rarer complications but the way your body actually feels. Here is the questions, thank you so much in advance to whoever takes the time to answer these! • My apologies if this is worded weirdly.. but, How did your tummy feel after the …

I am one week post opp, and the soreness/pulling/muscle catching pain is still very intense for me. I am walking multiple times a day to try and help, but everywhere i've read people seem to barley have any pain from the surgery. Can anyone shed light on their experience with the pain after surgery? (P.S. im NOT talking gas, shoulder, or back pain) Im referring to the pain from the healing of the surgery, (incisions, super sore). What did y'all's timeline of pain look like? or was there something yall did to help heal faster?

Hi everyone, I am getting closer to getting all the approvals in place for surgery. The approval I was most nervous about was the Psychological Evaluation but, it went quite well last week. Obviously, this is a big decision that I am not taking lightly so......Out of curiosity, do any of you have any regrets thus far? Are any post op issues you have encountered that have made you regret having surgery or have the benefits have really outweighed the issues? I am mainly worried about dehydration since today I do chug a lot of water. Thanks for your feedback!☺️

Hi everyone. This is my second day on full diet and I have been sick all day. I had Turkey sausage and boiled egg and the pepperidge farm oat light bread toasted. I tried to eat the protein first but I would take a small bite of the toast intermittently. Needless to say I could not finish it all. When I felt myself approaching full, I stopped. But shortly after, I started feeling a little nauseous and my stomach argued with me loudly. Was I doing to much with this attempt to eat a meal?

I had vsg surgery last November. I had the typical shedding of hair that happens with weight loss. I thought I was over the hump. But my hair feels even thinner now. I just bought bariatric fusion hair nails and skin vitamins as well as Olaplex. I haven’t been great with my vitamins, so I’m completely taking the blame. But I’m freaking out! Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I feel really defeated and upset. Sorry this is gonna be a negative post but I dont know what to do anymore. I had my surgery (vsg) September 28th (in another post I mixed up September and October) and recovered very well, very fast. Hardly any gas pain, no incisional pain and so far no vomiting. As thankful as I am about all that that pretty much sums up all the good things there are. First of I’m hungry ALL THE TIME!! In fact my cravings have never been this bad. I think about food 24/7!! Then the moment I smell food or prepare food my hunger vanishes and gets replaced by feeling incredibly nauseous. I can only eat something once then it gross…

Hello, Im completely new to all of this and i started the process to fill out all the requirements to have bariatric surgery approved by my insurance. in that time my company changed insurance providers and we were told the plans would not change much but when the time came to submit the request for approval they rejected my application because that type of surgery is not covered. So now i find myself desperately searching online for a private provider that does cover the surgery because i dont want to loose all the work i already put into this. Any info anyone has would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Alright, y'all, I'm 6 weeks post-op and feel great! I've had a very smooth recovery, and am truly grateful for that. Two weeks ago, I got an update from my dietician about week 4 & 5 phases, including suggested meal schedules and calorie intake. I was a little lower than her goals, but figured I was close enough that over the course of the 2 weeks I would get there. Today I got the week 6 & 7 guidelines and I'm realizing I'm further "behind" than I thought I was. Her guidelines include 3-4 meals a day, 3-4oz each, with an overall 1,200 a day caloric intake (70g protein goal). I'm still sitting at 800-900 calories with 2 meals a day and a protein shake or two, …

Just curious if anyone is taking a gummy vitamin after surgery?? If so, any side effects from it? Met with my dietitian and she said before my surgery I need to wean myself off vitamin gummies. Im guessing it must cause issues maybe? She also said ibuprofen is a no no after surgery. I take ibuprofen for knee pain when the weather changes or generalized knee pain. What is a good replacement

This might be such a silly thing to worry about so please forgive me. I'm 3 weeks post-op vsg, and on softfoods. I was so excited to eat something soft that yesterday, I tried a few things in my fridge. I guess my stomach didn't agree with the combination or amount, and it all came back up fiercly. It's now the next day and my stomach, which previously was feeling much better, now is very tender. I know this started because of the puking, I could feel the pain when my stomach would contract. I'm just worried about why it would STILL be so sore. Has this happened to anyone else? It's really worrying me. Can I do damage to my sleeve from just puking?

I am 13 weeks post op and have lost 68 pounds so far (started at 280). Yesterday was the FIRST day that anyone noticed (or actually said anything.) And in the past 24 hours it seems as though everyone is suddenly noticing the weight loss. Just curious as to others’ experiences with how much weight was lost before people began noticing and commenting. And wondering why with that last 2 pounds is it suddenly so much more evident to people????

Hi Friends! I rarely ever get on this anymore, but I know how pivotal these forums were to me at the beginning of my journey to have people alongside me going through similar experiences! I did this around this time last year and figured another post wouldn't hurt anyone. So, the facts! I'm currently 3.5 years out from VSG, down 140 pounds and kept off, and still living my best life! I have had two plastic surgeries, completed two degrees, and have never been happier in my life. For those just beginning, please do not get discouraged. I remember so vividly the nights I would cry with regret that I had made such a mistake, that my life was ruined, that I was upset I …

I had Gastric Sleeve surgery nearly 5 years ago. The sleeve was a conversion from a plication to a gastric sleeve. The doctor told me there wasnt anything surgically wrong with the stomach but I have crazy muscle spasms when I sit down that are really painfull. I take some pain medicine but it does nothing. Is this due to the GS or back pain? They found some herniated discs. If I get a gastric sleeve converted to a bypass would the pain be more or less? Any thoughts?

I had been warned that post weight loss surgery that some people have an increase in BO. I just left the gym and I reek of BO. I am not up to my old treadmill routine of hills and spead but I am working hard enough to raise my pulse. Thing is I barley sweated even though in the past this long of a work out with a pulse level I achieved I would of been soaked. So is the increased BO because My body is not letting go of its precious fluids and the sweat is concentrated stinky stuff?Does this stage last long? What has been your experience?

Hi everyone, New here.I had my sleeve on 10/5/21. I am just starting on mushy foods. I have a big concern with what I can eat after 4 months. I am going to Italy in may and I already pushed this vacation back. It was originally in January. My question is at what month did everyone start eating, pasta, bread, pizza, steak, sweet stuff and did you have to wait to get approval from your doctor for it? I am a little worried about what I can and can’t eat on this trip. Also has anyone traveled by cruise lately, Do they allow you to take powder for your shakes? Thank you :)

Hello! I was sleeved a month ago and have stayed on liquids because looking at real food sort of turns me off. No desire at all. I know i cant continue this way. For breakfast, i drink sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast with 1% skim milk. Lunch is soup. Etc I'd like to try real food for breakfast because I'm shaky/ hungry in the morning and would really appreciate your (light) breakfast suggestions. Thanks!

Had my post op yesterday and it went really well, the doctor said I’ve lost a good amount since the surgery and to prepare for my purée diet which was supposed to start Monday. I wanted to tell him I felt 100% ready to start the purée but didn’t mention it. I have not been physically hungry, but physically and mentally tired of drinking just liquid for almost 4 weeks. I truly felt ready to try and eat something and see how my stomach handles it. I ate less than an oz, I won’t start making 2-3 oz meals until Monday, but I did snack on very small amounts of puréed food. Part of me doesn’t feel guilty at all because my stomach has been fine and I’ve had no issues with vomiti…

So I've been feeling absolutely fantastic... plenty of energy, lots of exercise, weight loss kicked off again after the Dread Third-Week Stall... ...until today, when suddenly I'm just nauseated by everything. Finished half my usual morning shake... bleh. Waited a while to finish the rest... bleh. Ate some known-good stuff (deli turkey)... bleh. Sigh. Hopefully this is short-lived. And fortunately I still have a few pills of ondansetron left if it gets unbearable.

Hello, I am new to the group but I had gastric sleeve surgery on 9/30 and was told I could start soft foods 3 days ago and I did try to but I was afraid I would rip my staples so I sort of stopped and went back to doing shakes. I do try to eat a few bites of mash potatoes but get full instantly. I am so scared of causing a leak and not sure if the way I am feeling it normal. Im not in pain although I do get the occasional nerve pinches and twinge here and there. Anyone else like this?
