I have been seeing that so many people have surgery on the same date as me, December 7th. I would love to connect with all of you who have surgery on that date so we can motivate, push, and even vent to each other about the process since we will all be going through it at the same time. I have been trying to find a community of people and feel as though this is the best way to do so. We can exchange recipes and give each other advice on what to eat or do. Please comment and let's connect!

My first 9 days post surgery were quite traumatising. I was not ready for the sleep depravation and symptoms of a swelling in my new stomach. I had constant foamies, all day and night for 9 days. I was honking foam like a over powdered washing machine. I have been unable to take my medicines and vitamins In a fashion all I have managed to eat/ drink is squash, broth and coffee [ I am allowed] Day 10 arrives and I feel better. I tried some well pureed ramen broth with chicken and vegetables and later that day a banana milkshake with peanut butter added. I am allowed to drink milk instead of protein shakes, just adding extra dried milk powder and to it. …

I am 2.5(ish) months out and on a "regular" diet per my programs plan. All is well, no issues with recovery or food so far. However, I went to a Mexican restaurant with the husband for date night a few nights ago and realized upon order my very favorite Albondigas... I don't know how to eat soup now?! Obviously, I ate more than my fair share pre- and post-op in the liquid/mushy phases, but I haven't had any since then. Given that we aren't to mix food & drink, how does that apply to broth based soups?? Do I drink the liquid, wait, then eat the "guts" and if so, how long do I wait? Do I skip the broth and just go for the good stuff? Do I ask for a blender and relive…

I know every time I post all I do is complain but I have no one who listens or understands. I regret this surgery so bad. My mom told me to eat too much and stretch my stomach out and go back to normal. Is she crazy or what? The other night my husband told me this wasn't his problem. And my mother in law who was a big support just doesn't get it. I went to the local hospital Monday evening. I was hoping their ER would give me a different idea what's going on. I had tried to call my surgeon again that day and never heard back so I just went in here. They said I had starvation ketosis and my body was eating itself and I had low potassium. I ended up staying in the hospita…

I’m just a little bored on this soft food/purée phase. I’m making ricotta bake tonight. I did a puréed chicken salad with Greek yogurt and some other seasonings to eat on this week for lunch. Lots of other recipes I’ve tried but guess I’m just bored now. All suggestions welcome !

I had gastric sleeve surgery and a hiatal hernia repaired on November 30th and cannot believe the pain that I am in. Everything hurts: my legs, my arms, and of course my stomach. Is this normal? Of course I also have gas pains. Just wondering if so much pain is normal.

So I'm kind of freaking out over the pre op diet, as a diabetic...I'm worried that by not getting as many calories, my blood sugars are going to be too low. Anyone know how to manage that? My doctor said we will dial back my insulin a lot but I'm still worried. I'm on insulin, Ozempic, Gliclizide and Jardiance for diabetes and my sugars are on the high normal side of things but I am worried about lows. They terrify me.

Today is day 1 for my liquid diet: protein shakes and clear fluids only (Plus sugar free popsicles, 0 calorie flavored waters, clear broths, sugar free jello) I have ~80-100 lbs to lose. Yesterday I cleaned out my fridge and freezer, and stocked it with just the shakes/foods/drinks I can have. It's nice to have a clean fridge, and 0 wrong choices available. Mentally, it will be much tougher. I've written down 3 motivator/values in my planner so daily I will be able to refocus and remind myself why I'm doing this and what the outcome can be. Carbs are a precursor to the production of serotonin in the brain, and I know for myself that low carb diets w…

hey bari-team! i'm about 8 months post-op (march 9, 2021) and i've run into a little problem the last couple of days. so i've completely regressed... essentially feeling about food/liquid like i did in the immediate post-op. all hunger is gone, and when i do eat i can't keep anything down. i'm trying a protein shake today, but even liquids are making me feel gross. before the last couple of days, i haven't had any issues with food/liquid intake, except for the occasional over-eating, so this is really unexpected. has anyone experienced something similar this long after surgery?

HI, I'm new here. I had VSG on 10/28 and so I'm just over two weeks post op. I still have incisional pain, but I am having very little restriction. So far, nothing at all has made me sick, I have no food aversions whatsoever, and I have been hungry since day 1. I was allowed to transition from liquid diet to soft foods ONLY FOUR DAYS AGO. Today I was trying to follow the meal plans laid out in my resources which basically was 1 cup of soft food and two protein shakes. I did that, and I had a snack in the afternoon of about 3oz hummus and olives. I had ricotta bake, an egg, a protein shake, and that's about it. Maybe a sup and a half fo soft food all day, but I tracke…

I'm on day 4.5 of the liquid pre-op diet (I am fortunate that I only had to do a week) and I am so hungry and low on energy (to make matters worse, I received my COVID booster the night of my first day of this diet). I am eating cottage cheese, drinking warm broth with Unjury Chicken Soup flavored protein powder, having protein drinks made with Fairlife milk, and I am nervous. Will I feel this rundown on so little calories post surgery? Currently I couldn't survive like this long term. How and why will it improve after surgery? How will my body feel OK on so few calories? Surgery is on Tuesday the 30th and I have to teach my 6th graders the day before! My thinking right n…

Hey so I had surgery august 5th this year and I lost about 50 pounds but I can’t get under 200 pounds. I know it may not be a big deal as I know and have mentioned this to people who are trying to get to 200 but I was 250 and counting and now that I’m at 200 I feel like I’m at a stand still and can’t go under 200. I work out, I opt to take the stairs instead of my elevator if I’m not carrying anything heavy, I drink maybe one protein shake a day instead of two now because I’ve been trying to eat actual food (for a while I wouldn’t eat more than a few bites) and it’s like nothing is working. Any tips?

Today is a year since my sleeve surgery. I started at 294 lbs and this morning I am 175. I bounce around the low 170s. I feel good and would do it again in a heart beat. My aches and pains are mostly gone and so is my severe sleep apnea. At 53, I weigh less than I did in high school. Lol

It took almost two years, but rice did me in. My friend, who had gastric sleeve two years before me, said I would throw up in six months. It took a year and a half, but it was rice. I had a great time at a sushi place and paid the price dearly. Rice expands. I should have know this, but I threw caution to the wind. Fair warning to those who eat something that is a carb. Lesson learned!

I was wondering if the VSG veterans who were in the purée stage for Thanksgiving have any food recommendations for the big day. Looks like I’ll be able to taste mashed potatoes and plain sweet potatoes. Would deviled egg filling be too rich? I hit purée stage this Tuesday and cannot wait! Any purée advice is appreciated. Congratulations to everyone!

Stepped on the scale this morning and was under 300 pounds for the first time in almost twelve years… not gonna lie, I cried happy tears Once I’m a bit more comfortably under, I’m going to schedule a DXA scan, since my ultimate goal is 15% body fat, and it’ll help to recalibrate where that number lies on the scale.

As the title says.... Do/have any of you used the herbalife shake powders? If so did your dietician say they were ok? My wife and I are 10 days post op and cant stand all the premade protein shakes we bought but we have been able to get the herbalife ones to go down very smoothly and are getting the amount of protein we need.

I was sleeved on 5/24/21 and have lost 70 lbs. I still have at least 70 more to lose. The past two weeks I haven’t lost anything and my appetite has been ferocious! I’m meeting my protein goals of 80+grams, but find myself creeping up toward 1200+ calories a day, even when my surgeon and nutritionist recommended 800-1000. I’m not feeling as much restriction and find myself getting hungrier, especially as the day progresses and in the evening. I’m terrified that my body had met its “set point” or my sleeve has stopped working or stretched out. What gives? Please help this newbie out and tell me it will get better!

I am 6 months post op from sleeve surgery. I've lost 73 pounds from my highest weight, but only 58 pounds since surgery. I'm eating 800-1000 calories a day, getting my protein and liquids, taking all my vitamins and exercising 5 or 6 days a week. The weight loss has stalled over the last 2 months, and I am so frustrated. I feel great physically, but am discouraged and disappointed. My primary care doctor spoke to me yesterday about trying Contrave. Have any of you tried it after surgery? What was your experience?

Hey everyone! Just had sleeve yesterday morning. I was a self pay. first day was the worse than today. I’ve been nauseous ever since I woke from surgery. it’s hard for me to distinguish from gas pain and nausea. I managed to get 8 oz down yesterday. I threw up the gabapentin immediately. Feeling scared to try anything. My nurse said he’ll have me try the Tylenol at some point. belly just feel like I worked out my abs, and getting up takes some work. I’ve walked until I get tired, which a about 5 laps around my room. today is better than yesterday, but boy does this suck!!!! And my room freezing. nothing good today yet, j…

Hi all! So I’m in need of some info.. are we low cal, low fat or low carb? See the reason I ask is because low carb is high fat, high protein.. but I thought fat was not good for us… now that I am almost 6 weeks out (Friday makes exactly 6 weeks) I’m feeling hungrier. I eat 5 small meals, but if I actually eat I’m looking at more calories. I’ve been creeping upwards around 950 calories a day. When I used to do keto, I never looked at calories. Help!

I had gastric sleeve surgery last Tuesday the 9th and have only lost about 2.5 pounds since then--I managed to lose about 13 pounds on the pre-op diet and am hoping to lose around 115 the first year to get to my goal weight (but of course the timing isn't as important as eventually reaching that milestone). I am trying not to get discouraged by my modest weight loss since the day of surgery, so I'm mostly just looking for some reassurance that weight loss in the first few weeks after surgery isn't a predictor of how much you'll end up losing overall and how quickly. How much weight did you lose the first month, and how did that taper off (if it did at all) in months two a…

I am 3 years out, VGS Dec 2018, and have been maintaining my weight until last month and have gained 10 lbs. it’s not the exercise part that is an issue. It is definitely the less restriction related to food intake.Looking for support to get these 10 lbs off and keep them off.

7 days post OP from the sleeve. Had shoulder pain on day 1, then not again until yesterday- it came one time. Gas x helped yesterday but today it hasn't helped at all. I have had this shoulder pain most of the day. It goes away briefly but that's all. Up until yesterday, I was still getting sternum discomfort but that's gone. Is it really normal to have left shoulder pain show up on day 7 and not leave with gas x???? PLEASE ANSWER, as my mind is going to the worst. I DID NOT HAVE A HERNIA REPAIR. I can kind of feel it in my neck too right above shoulder

Thought I would give an update here. VSG was done 9/14/2021, today is 11/14/2021. THE GOOD: Down 55 lbs from surgery, 64 lbs from the start of the pre-op diet, and 94 lbs from my heaviest weight. Hypertension and asthma diagnoses were officially withdrawn. Hypogonadism is under review. CPAP average setting went from 16 cm H2O to about 7 cm. Have an appointment soon to see if I need it any more. Depression has almost completely been put in remission. Went from 52/34 to 36/34 in the same cut of jeans, and actually need to go see if they have 34/34 at the outlet. Went from 4XL or even 5XL shirts to L or XL (mostly XL). Went fr…

So... what happens when you stop checking out the forums every day and quit tracking? Well, for me it means weight gain. Hit my low of about 165 and then... well... then, essentially have been on a bender since then. It's been about a month. I know what I have to do, I just have to actually DO IT. I'm up 4lbs and can't seem to shake it. I'm NOT going over 170 again, but I have to find that happy medium between starving myself and gorging myself. My solution: start holding myself accountable. I'm starting over today. Tracking, posting, and weighing daily. For others out there in the same boat, don't give up or give in. Take it one day at a time and don't…

I have to hype myself up to swallow my vitamins. I use a pill cutter for the big boy because I loath throwing up, and if that beast gets stuck, I know I will. I have to take an additional 265mg of thiamine because I was deficient prior to surgery. My urine smells like vitamins. It is gross. And I can only assume my sweat will to when I get the go ahead to exercise. Yesterday I think I experienced “the foamies” people talk about on here after I took my vitamins. It lasted like an hour. I finally ate a sugar free pudding in an attempt to weigh down the foamies. It either worked or enough time had passed.

Scheduled for a mini gastric bypass this Friday, the 19th. Trying today to get a list together of everything I need as far as new foods and drinks so I can have it all in house by then. Confusing with so many different sites saying different things or mentioning different products. I'm a single man and have to handle this alone and would really appreciate any help or sites that kind of lay it out in simple terms. I've been given alot of paprerwork from the doctor and hospital and met with the hospital's bariatric person. Guess how I feel afterwards will dictate what I drink the 1st few days or week, but still unsure of how often and what is allowed or suggested as …

I was sleeved 11/5/21 & I'm feeling great! I had no major gas pains & just tender where incisions were glued. My nurse said my doc does a really good job of expelling gas at end of surgery. I didn't know this was an option? My pain from gallbladder lapro was way worse. So my question is-how can I tell if I'm full? My stomach feels the same soreness after eating as it does all day...even before drinking/eating. I am able to get a little more than 64oz of water per day & 3 shakes. I have even added 1 Liquacel protein goo per day. When I take too big of a sip- it feels like my esophagus closes off. *feels like filling a tank of gas too far** I ha…
