Just wanting to share my story and current status at 1 year in. I started the journey in June of 2020 after considering it for years. Having surgery was something that was in the back of my mind for years. I have a co-worker/friend who had gastric bypass about 3 years before me and quite honestly, she is the reason I ended up taking the plunge - Gastric Sleeve was the best choice for ME. Watching her journey and seeing her success motivated me. I appreciated the fact that she was willing to share her experiences both positive and negative. Prior to my meeting with the surgeon, she gave me a ton of insight on what to expect with both positives and negatives. Physica…

Hey guys! I'm scheduled for VSG on June 28th. What was the average everyone was out of work? I work in a very active healthcare clinic. I know of the 4 week weight restriction of 10 pounds, but that can just been job modifications.

Just had my annual Bariatric Team visit. At my clinic, we do this once a year for the rest of forever. Every year, we run a bunch of labs on vitamin and nutrient absorption to make sure everything is still good, have a consult, answer a million questions for research, discuss any health concerns, and get weighed. I was within half a pound of my weigh in last year. They were delighted. I was delighted. I don't mind doing this, and I think it's extremely helpful to keep tabs on folks so that assistance can be offered as needed. I think monitoring nutrient absorption is a really good idea, too, since it can take a couple years to develop issues. How do other…

I've had wicked reflux and vomiting over the past few months, down 13 pounds which I think is from vomiting dinner almost every night. Anyhow, I had my endoscopy today and it's as the bariatric surgeon suspected. I have a hiatal hernia (6cm, not sure what that means in relation to the hernia) and they stretched my esophagus starting with a 10mm balloon, up to a 16.5mm balloon. Endo-doc says the pylorus is definitely narrowed but he could get the scope in there. SO... I am scheduled for the hernia repair and "anchoring" my sleeve in place on 6/22/21 and then... I don't know. My surgeon said if the pyloric opening was too narrow I might need a revision but I don't know if s…

For the guys - How many calories a day do you consume? I'm in my late 50’s and about 5 weeks post surgery. I hit about 800-900 calories a day, heavy protein, low carb. The last few days, I seem to be able to eat a little more before satiety than I have in the last couple of weeks. I’m concerned about stretching my sleeve, over eating, etc. Probably not being logical, but still wondering. I know everybody is different, but is there a calorie range you try to stay within? Thx.

Hi, I have my gastric sleeve, hiatal hernia repair and gallbladder removal on 6/24. I've been so busy leaving everything at work ready for my absence, house, kids and pets ready that I haven't do any research on any tips you all might have for pre-op, post-op. I have the list of recommendations from my doctors but I would love your advice on better protein shakes, dos and don't dos that are not included in the doctors list. Thank you!!

My partner and I have been having some issues with my weight and how much I've gained in 8years we have been together. He knows I'm due to have a sleeve but is really against me having it and had even said he can't get his head round me having it and could effect our relationship. I really don't know what to do, I really want this to help me live a better life.

Guys, I need some encouragement here. I had my sleeve done on April 6, and everything went as planned. However, after losing 21 pounds in fourteen days, I have been stalled for a week! I'm seriously crashing here, because it's like all my failures in weight loss are coming back! I am following the dietician's recommendations to the letter, walking 2 miles each day. . .HELP!!!

Hey new on here but needed some support having a really bad day. I had my vsg done on the 10th May this year, stats HW:285 SW 279 CW 254. So here is my problem, I have done all sorts of diet and had no success and feel like I wouldn’t with this vsg also. I eat right portion and right food and I’m not having the same results as others that I have seen. I am eating little and listening to my pouch but the scale is not moving and I’m scared if this doesn’t work I would be seen as a failure by my loved ones. I don’t want to be a failure and I need help or pointers on how I can make this work. I meet my protein goals and my water 90% of the time. Please any advise would…

So the beginning of my 12th week I started having pain in my right side. It would not get better. Saturday morning I called my doctor and she said let's do a quick test and see what's going on. I show up at the hospital and they admitted me immediately. I was surprised by that. They did blood work a CAT scan and ultrasounds. The blood work came back immediately with my potassium at 3.0. I don't know a lot about that kind of stuff but I learned that anything 3.6 and under you are admitted for. Apparently you can have a heart attack. My kidneys were at stage 2 failure shutting down from dehydration low electrolytes and potassium. Hence the right side pain. So they started m…

This week is my 2 year anniversary. I am at 255lbs now which is down 110lbs from where I started my journey. Off my dead lows which was 243 but very stable 250-257 area. The 2nd year was very different from the first year. My portion sizing has stabilized. I generally eat what I want with the very firm reminder every time I forget about my surgery. I still get the most restriction from proteins and snacks offer little to no restriction. I never made it to my initial goal weight wise but my quality of life dramatically improved. I am able to move around and do things I wasnt before. I bought an ATV just before the pandemic hit and that kept me very busy last year…

Hi all i am five days post op and i was wondering if anyone has any guidelines regarding calorie intake? I've healed up great and i feel fine, eating does take time and i get a lot of chest gas but it's okay. I've had 600 calories so far today but i feel like i still have one more meal in me today and i realised my dietitian never talked about post op calories. Does anyone happen to know anything about what's recommended? I add nourishment powder to most of my food for extra vitamins and proteins.

I just got a voicemail from the surgical coordinator to schedule my surgery, so I'm assuming insurance has approved me! I'm looking at mid-July, and...I know in my head and heart that the sleeve is the right thing and I definitely want to move forward, but am also feeling super anxious about the pre-op diet (I have difficulty choking down Protein Shakes and get queasy without solid food), and even more so, about the recovery and all the long-term changes ahead of me, as well as the whether or not this will be sustainable over time. It's scary to read of stories of people's hunger coming back and regaining weight after all the effort. I just really want this to wor…

100lbs Gone since the beginning of this, and 62lbs down since the surgery. So far, so good. Wondering though if anyone else has issues with what I call vapor lock when drinking. It's where you take too big a sip on something and you end up with it sticking around in your chest for a bit.

I'm really discouraged [emoji20]. My SW was 255, after 2 week liquid diet I only lost 5 pounds to 250lbs. Right then I told myself that the surgery isn't going to work if 2 weeks of only liquids takes off 5 pounds. I decided that I tried everything else and might as well go through with it. Released from hospital at 247. Weighed myself at home next day and was 243lbs. My home scale has always been a bit lower than hospital scale by 3 or so pounds as I weigh nude. Today a week later weigh 241. Lose and gain like this is common for me with doing Keto. I can lose 14lbs in two weeks doing Keto, just couldn't commit and keep it off. All of this to say, I fear I've done this …

Good Morning!! I’m just figuring this whole forum thing. I had my surgery on 06/08/21. I was also menstrating when I had my surgery so not fun. Getting prepped for surgery was a little nerve- wracking. I was nervous of course and when then started trying to put my IV in wasn’t a fun time lol. I am left handed and wanted the IV to go in my right arm so I could have mobility. So the nurse warmed both my arms with warm blankets. She had found one in my right arm right in the fold of my arm (not ideal)... thought was all good but when she tried letting the fluids pass through nothing moved. She discovered she missed my vein. Such a bummer because then I starte…

My surgeon’s office mentioned that my insurance (Aetna) has started being very picky with VSG surgery approvals. The office had submitted for my surgery last week but then canceled, because they didn’t feel comfortable quite yet and want me to get a sleep apnea test done. I was at the required BMI 41 at my consult and started to lose weight right after to lose 15/20lbs required for surgery. They feel because I’ve lost weight so quickly in the past and now they may not approve, I don’t have any huge medical issues. I’ve battled with obesity my entire life and have lost and gained weight since I was in middle school. I’ve done every diet out there, but my body has started t…

Hello everyone! I'm new here....but so glad I found this forum! My date is May 31. I live in Virginia Beach but I'm having surgery about 45 minutes away from home. My surgeon only requires a 1 day liquid preop diet. Everyone seems to have 2 weeks so I'm wondering why he's different. I'm definitely going to ask him about this during my preop appointment on may 23. (The surgery coordinator said I will have a 2 week liquid diet AFTER the surgery.) my WLS instagram: beachgirllosingweight Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

I had my gastric sleeve 6/4/21. So far I don’t really feel different. I am pushing to get the protein shakes and 64 oz of liquid in a day just because that’s a lot for me even before surgery. But I don’t really feel any different. I have lost lbs, but I’m afraid when I can eat food again the lbs will come right back. I also haven’t had a BM (tmi) since the day before my surgery. Is this normal?

Hi everyone! Made it to the other side of this interesting journey! Just want to share a couple things for others waiting on surgeries! I have had an easier time so far then most which I am so thankful for. I’m basically pain free other then discomfort internally, but can’t even really call it pain. Walk as soon as you can in the hospital. It really helps. Drink super slow out of little 15ml medicine cups. Listen to your body and what it needs ( liquids, rest, walking etc.) In the hospital I felt bad because I could hear others struggling really bad! I was worried that it was just a matter of time before I had their issues, but luckily I didn’t. I’m still ve…
