I am week 18. Everything tastes different to me, I don’t care for what use to be my favorite foods. Most things seem to taste like pennies an too salty. Anyone noticing similar?

I had salmon last night and it was heavenly. Research shows me it's a great source of Protein and low in calories. Yay! What other fish do y'all enjoy? Also, are fish like shrimp and crab included on soft foods or is it more like the fillets?

I am about 6 weeks out, and had a rough time with nausea and vomiting until the past week. With doctor/dietician help, I finally got things set so that I have not vomited in 3 days. However, it seems I have a tight food/drink/med/supplements schedule, with a checklist and timers going off the entire day. It is almost a full-time job to get all of my goals met, and not vomit. Does the strict schedule get easier? I am nervous going back to work full-time because there is little schedule flexibility. Thanks for any advice and encouragement from veterans!

Hey everyone! I’m coming to ask out of desperation. I’m almost 3 years post op gastric sleeve (in July). I had my second child (the only post op child I have— my first was preop) in November 2020. Previous to pregnancy I had been maintaining a comfortable weight for myself and was so happy with where I was. I did great throughout the pregnancy and had only gained 25 pounds and then on week 37 my weight shot up SO fast.. to 44 pounds gained! Turns out I had to deliver immediately due to blood pressure (which I had never had an issue with in my entire life). fast forward to two weeks postpartum I had lost 22 pounds. Great.. so 22 pounds to get back to my comfort …

I wanted to preface this post with this optimistic fact. My husband had the surgery with amazing results and no problems whatsoever 15 years ago - it saved his life. He lost over 150 pounds and kept if off. He's gained and lost the same 25 pounds like your typical middle aged person, but it's been nothing but a blessing for him. We had different surgeons. My experience wasn't so awesome, and I feel it's so important to share a few facts so you choose the RIGHT surgeon and ask the RIGHT questions. I hope I can help people avoid the avoidable. I'm a big believer in the surgery - but I want you to not suffer. Let me help:) What's the problem? The sleeve has a…

I'm about 14 weeks post-op. I've been very slow on the weight loss front, so I'm trying some more rigorous exercise and joined a martial arts class for beginners. What I've noticed with the class as well as after I've gone for a long bike ride or done other strenuous exercise is that I'm way more hungry the next day or so. Is that normal for everyone or is it just another way that my body is trying to get me to increase calories against my better judgement? Am I prematurely adding too much of the wrong kind of exercise? I just get bored with walking and find that taekwondo gives me a physical and mental challenge and really gives me a good solid workout a couple days…

Hello, I am 5 weeks post op today and still have not lost any weight since my first week post op...I measure all of my food, even the bites I sneak from family members. I walk every day, work in my yard and play with my dogs. Has anyone had this problem and what worked to get things started? I feel very emotional and defeated to the point of feeling I went through all of this for nothing. thank you, v

Hi everyone. I had my vsg on April 7th. A few nights ago I felt really bad tingling in my left arm and left side of face. It went away after about an hour or so (not sure if it's related). I went to the beach last night, and you know how when you're sitting on the ground, you put your arms behind you and kind of relax on your arms? Well I was doing that and every time I moved from that position, when I'd move my arms back to normal, my fingers on both hands would be stiff and "locked" for a few seconds before I could move them. I ofcourse thought calcium, but I'm taking my vitamins, calcium chews, and still having one premier protein shake a day with 650mg of calcium in t…

Two weeks post op. 12 lbs net loss ( I have 180 lbs to approach a healthy weight). Yesterday I ate a small bag of chips at work. It took about an hour. Later, I had small pieces of chocolate. Altogether, probably 400 calories over what I should eat. I feel like such a failure. I didn't have any pain stopping me... My hunger was out of control. I don't know how to deal with it... Advice?

I've been thinking a lot lately about how it's already been 10 years since I got my sleeve. I've also been thinking about new people just starting on this journey and remembering how I felt about the whole process. I should mention I'm 5ft 2in and weighed 233 lbs and was 56 years old at the time I started my journey. I tried every diet, I mean every diet. Spent too much money on fads and diet supplements. In the beginning I was excited and worried about having the sleeve. You can't grow your stomach back! Not that I had an emotional attachment to my stomach and actually thought my stomach was my enemy. The thought of removing part of a perfectly good organ in my…

Greeting ? I am new to this forum and have alot of questions I suppose as many of you probably did when you were just starting out. I am morbidly obese (I hate that description even tho its true) it just sounds awful and degrading. Anyway, I have had a weight problem for years. I just never addressed it I guess, well now is the time to do that. My questions Id like to pose is: how many people who have had the gastric sleeve have experienced long term complications from it and how long has it been post op? And what were they? Did the benefits far outweigh the complications in your opinion? If you had it to do all over again would you elect to have the s…

I had VSG 12/07/20 and have no type of regrets!! However I am now 5 months post op and my stomach tolerates basically anything I give it. I recently have been over indulging in things I KNOW I shouldn't (cookies, chips, fast food). Just a couple of weeks ago I was soooo strict on what I ate and how much but ever since reaching ONDERLAND I just haven't been as strict. I could really use some advice and encouragement from those who have been where I am.. HOW DO I GET BACK ON TRACK?

Hello, I was told, and read, that after the surgery I would not feel hunger pangs...oh my gosh they are stronger than they were pre operation! Is anyone having this same experience? I do know the difference between hunger and heartburn, but my physician assistant prescribed an ulcer pill. I have only been diagnosed with heartburn not GERD or acid reflux so I am seriously concerned she is prescribing just to prescribe. Any thoughts on that?

Is it normal to have trouble standing up straight right away? I feel like everything feels really tight and it takes me a minute or two before I can even really straighten up at all. I don’t know if it’s all the glue on the scars or some thing internal or what. My surgery was only a few days ago so I’m less than a week into this. Did anyone else have a real tightening feel on their stomach when they tried to stand straight up? I’m trying to keep in mind that I was pumped full of fluid and the organs may be pretty sore and swollen after the surgery. Grateful in advance for any feedback.

Hello everyone! I am two weeks post op. My doctor had me on a clear liquid diet one week after surgery, then clear liquid with protein for another week. I have just started soft foods. My doctor said I should only be doing about 6 small bites in 30 minutes. I'm doing more than that. I had about 8-10 bites of cottage cheese yesterday, then I had a piece of cheese with hummus, then about 4-5 oz of tuna tetrazzini for dinner. Then I had a small cup of sugar free pudding later for snack. I am having a hard time getting my water in. Could that have something to do with it? I don't want to go through this surgery for naught. Help!

So here it is the final step before the rest of my life begins So nervous but yet excited at the same time. Starting my liver shrinking diet now. Dr said only need to do it for 2 weeks prior, but want to make sure I am following it so I am starting early. I have so many thoughts and feelings right now..kinda overwhelming. Things seemed like they were dragging on and taking forever to get to this phase...but man when the team decided I was ready I feel like I was grabbed up and SPUN on an axis and just now catching myself. I do remember when the Nutritionist said I was ready & they have submitted my name to the team I immediately said " WAIT, WHAT? NO TAKE BACKS NOW"…

Ok so here is my situation: My daughter was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age 5 and is now 29 years old. She got married two years ago and has two adorable baby girls. She is in full renal failure and needs a kidney. I am a match. I have been through all medical and psych testing and I am a match. The U of M has given me until May 20th to lose 10 more pounds to become an "ideal match" to do surgery in June. As an ideal match we can blast through so much garbage and red tape and just do the transplant it would be a miracle. No exchange program or waiting, just straight up pick the date, go in and do the transplant. We did not know about the need f…

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing. HW 264 SW 235 CW 195 GW 130 Height 5’5” BMI 32.6 I was sleeved 2/24/21 and am down 40 lbs since surgery and 69 lbs overall. I recently made it to Onederland and am down 3 sizes- gave all my pre-surgery clothes to a friend! Finding this is very doable and sticking with program. Using Baritastic app to track macros/ meet protein and fluid goals. I am attending support group hosted by my surgeon’s practice and belong to a couple other online bariatric social groups/ recipe groups. I am so happy I did this and looking forward to meeting my goal weight sometime. I eat between 650-900 calories per day ( n…

I know it's no where near my goal and I've been losing pretty slowly compared to some but I'm finally consistently below 230! That's a big deal to me! Every time I try to lose weight, I always get stuck around 233 and eventually give up. I called it my "normal fat" weight where I don't hate myself. This feels like my first real milestone. 203 is next (my weight after my first year teaching). I've been discouraged since surgery because my weight loss pattern is stalling 80% of the time and losing a few pounds overnight every 2-3 weeks. I'm averaging about 7 pounds a month and I'm still pretty early out. But this is a WIN for me! I think this WILL work for me! It just …

I had my surgery on 4.29 and still have some pain. I think its from bruising, because I see a big bruise in the middle of my torso. Any recommendations? Ibuprofen doesn't work and I'm out of pain meds. Also, I'm able to get down 8 oz of fluid pretty easy, but see other people struggling with 2 oz. Am I stretching my sleeve already??

How moly, it’s almost hard to look at! I still have so much work to do but I cannot get over the changes in under 6 months! At times I really miss a cold beer (and I am not really a drinker) or a good old dish of homemade Mac and cheese but then I look at old photos and it quickly reminds me that I don’t need them that badly! What do you miss or what gives you that added incentive to shut the fridge door?

So just a little history: I am 42, , 5’11 and spent a good 10 years of life competing in women’s bodybuilding and also did trail running and half marathons before injuries, peri menopause, and a car accident caused me to gain a lot of weight over a few years. My surgeon is insisting that my goal weight be 150-155 lbs. I have not weighed this even when I was bodybuilding and completely shredded with a full 6 pack. He even tried to get me to switch from VSG to bypass because he felt it would help me lose more weight. I started out at 339 pre surgery and am down to 308 at 4 weeks post. There is no way that I feel I could ever weigh 150lbs as I would be skin and bones! Has a…
