I had my upgrade from ring to bypass last Saturday. It all went fine and I am somehow feeling ok yet I have no appetite to water or juices or anything yet. I have a problem with the belching and can't get myself to add milk or broth yet. I feel nausea just thinking of it. Due to this I feel some dizziness by 5 pm onwards till bed time every day. But as a whole it is ok.

I have been thinking and thinking about the surgery since 2013 but i never had the balls or courage to do it. After having my daughter on 2014 I really said this is it I need to be healthier and in shape for her. I have been overweight all my life and no matter how many diets I did none of them helped. On late December of 2014 I started doing my research and went to the dr. (Haven't told anyone only mom and husband) I just got approved for surgery and I'm nervous and insecure. I don't know what to do. Yesterday night I told my mother in law because I will need help with my daughter and she wasn't as supportive as I would of like her to be. Now I'm thinking again is this t…

Well, I'm 11 Days Post Op! I am much better than my last video post were I had an emotional breakdown moment. This road is not without challenges... But no success is birthed in failures and the refusal to give up. https://youtu.be/mk_cXZZPQN4

Hey everyone, I am new here. I turn 40 tomorrow (how did that happen?) and meet with the surgeon for the first time on Wednesday. I am currently 260isg, 5'2", mommie to two beautiful girls and wife to an amazing guy. The only health issue known is HBP but I am pretty sure we might find more in all this pre-op testing. Has that happened to anyone? I know my insurance requires a 6 month diet which I have already completed with my PCP. So here's hoping insurance approval doesn't drag on. I have a lot of life to live and don't want to waste any more time! Very few people know I am looking into this because I want to avoid the peanut gallery comments of "it's about t…

Hey everyone! So I just reached my 6 month/100lbs down mark this week and got a lot of really good feedback on the progress pictures I posted. Obviously 100lbs down is a significant difference but I still find it SO incredibly difficult to see myself 100lbs lighter (and only 25lbs from my ultimate goal weight). Maybe it's that I lost the weight so fast that my mind can't see myself at that weight. I'm down like 7 or 8 pant sizes and like 4 shift sizes so I know size wise and by the number on the scale that I'm smaller. But I can't convince my brain to see me that way. Do you struggle with this? What do/did you do to overcome it? I try creating side by sides to give …

I went to a wl seminar about 3 weeks ago. It is way early in the process as I don't have a consultation scheduled until later this month but I've been researching the sleeve and came across this forum and thought I'd join. I am 5 ft 4 1/2 in. tall and fluctuate between 225 and 235. I have lost up to 80 pounds on weight watchers. My last weight loss attempt was about 2 1/2 years ago. I lost about 60 pounds using Herbalife. It is so discouraging and don't think I can do it again if I can't keep it off. The seminar doctor explained how our bodies are programmed for a "set point" and during this process they will teach how to avoid that pitfall. The sleeve sounded like t…

I am 9 weeks out and have dropped 50 lbs and 2 pant sizes! I feel the difference and it is wonderful. I can see the difference in my face, but maybe not so much the rest of my body yet (at least in these photos). I picked up my 30 lb niece the other day and could not believe I used to have more than one and a half of her on me all the time. So excited that the numbers just keep going down. I am walking my first ever 5k next week and am so proud of myself so all I have achieved so far! Best decision ever! Before WLS (gray) & Today (pink)

Hello everyone I am new to the forum. My name is Crystal, I am 32. I have been married for over 12 and a half years, and we have 10 year old twins and a 5 year old (all boys!!) I have been overweight pretty much my whole life (or as far as I can remember). I've done dieting and medication, Herbalife and a couple other plans like that. June 18th I went and had my first appointment with the bariatric surgeon. I didn't have many prerequisites from our insurance (BCBS of IL). My BMI is 55.8. I finished everything very quickly but was diagnosed with Mild Obstructive sleep Apnea. I go on the 17th to get the CPAP machine. I'm currently waiting on the approval from our insuran…

Hey ya'll! I just joined this site and thought I'd introduce myself! Name is Danielle and I have my sleeve surgery scheduled for August 17th! I'm so excited to finally start this leg of my weight loss journey that started back in 2008! Since I haven't told many people besides a few choice friends and my immediate family, I've been blogging everything since I started this process back in February. If anyone is interested in checking it out, here's the url https://mynewbeginning81715.wordpress.com I guess I have one question for the veterans on this site if they're reading this, what have ya'll used to reduce the appearance of stretch marks? Hope everyone has a grea…

I'm getting sleeved in less than a month! I'm so excited and ready for a new beginning. I'm 5'4, 230 lbs. with HBP, high cholesterol, and 2 bad knees. I can't remember the last time I really felt good. I've done a lot of research and feel at peace with my decision. I have great family support. I'm just worried about old habits that are hard to break. I'm an emotional eater and am afraid of letting myself down again. Thanks for listening.

I had my revision surgery on 6/30 from band to RNY. I was banded in 2005. I lost 100 lbs and kept off about 85. Then started having reflux, ulcers, and gastritis. Through an EGD the doctor found the band was partially obstructed. Before band, I was 450lbs so I was no where near goal. Finally made the decision and found the right doctor for revision. So here I am, 8 days post op. I feel so different this time! So motivated and following all instructions to a "t". Just looking for support to stay that way. I'm determined not to hide this time. Anxiety kept me from going groups last time or even looking for support. I still felt I was not "good" enough or didn't "fit." …

Hey, my name is Jasmine and I'm so excited to have found such a great group of people willing to share their stories. Well my journey began 1 1/2 years ago when I was approved for the rny. I was devastated when I was told I had to drop 85 lbs before my surgeon would even consider operating. I threw up my hands and gave up. Within a month I had packed on another 27 lbs, tipping the scale at 519. I was embarrassed, depressed and only had one option, LOSE THE WEIGHT!!! In February I dedicated myself to eating healthy and exercising faithfully. And by June I was down 90lbs pounds. So, here I go I'm ready for surgery. But here comes another road block. There's a glitch…

Hi there. I'm Beck. I'm 24 and from a tiny town in Illinois. I enjoy lots of hobbies especially arts, baking, researching medical things, and reading & writing. I love writing so much that I hope my final career can be as a historical fiction & fantasy author. I have a sweet pup named Riff who is a year old and whom I show in dog shows. I've struggled immensely with my weight since I was young. I'm fortunate that despite both of my parents being snackers, comfort eaters, stress eater etc. I don't have this problem! I really only eat when I'm hungry. But... I really really don't like most of the foods that are "good for you foods" I'm so finicky about veggies an…

Hey everyone! So I haven't posted much recently. Mostly because things have been going amazing!! Aug 19th will mark six months since my surgery and I am down 95lbs as of today!! I could not be happier. With that said though I have noticed a few things in the last month that I was not prepared to feel. Sure I was prepared for the loose skin, and sadness over no soda, and no sweets ect. I was even prepared for the what if complications.... What I did not see coming that has started hitting me like a Mach truck is the emotional issues. I know I have lost almost 100lbs, my new clothing I have recently bought no longer fit, but... I don't feel that different. I never did feel …

Hello all Today was my first visit with my surgeon . So I'm at the beginning stage of my journey. I'm excited and nervous at the same time . I have battled with my weight for the last 10 years and beginning to get progressively worst . As a mother of five I want be around for my children . Aside from being morbidly obese I really don't have any other health issues. I joking call myself the healthiest fat chick I know. I researched this for over a year . I have decided on going with the sleeve as it's better for me and my lifestyle. I am comfortable with my surgeon and his stats. The office staff was very friendly. The host of other doctors is going to be a killer …

I'm 15 days post op I went into surfer at 292 lbs and I'm now 264. Good progress, I'm sticking to the required eating and letting my stomach heel but what I am finding to be difficult is the head hunger. I really miss the couch of a chip or really anything I can chew at this point and I'm still 4 1/2 weeks away before I can eat something I can legitimately chew. I know it's just in my head but it's really starting to get to me. Anyway I'm very happy with the way everything is progressing but I would love if anyone has some tips for the head hunger. Thanks

Hello! My name is Gloria Olander. I'm from Pittsburgh pa and I had my gastric bypass surgery on June 8th,2015. I did very well with everything so far, just a couple things that I would like some advice on. My pre-op weight was 247lbs and I am now down to 223lbs, but than the weight stopped. I've been this weight for almost 2 weeks. I go to the gym every other day for 2 hrs and I'm basically living off of salads, cereal, and baked potatos. I don't know what to do. I'm worried that no matter what I do I will not get over this hump. This is the main reason why I got the surgery in the first place is because I could only lose 20-30lbs than I couldn't lose any more. Any pointe…

I'm new here and wanted to express how I am feeling with what seems to be a great support group!!! I am only 23 years old and meeting with my surgeon on August 6th for a 4 hour long appointment. Meeting with him, behavioral analyst, program coordinator, dietician, and an exercise specialist. I am ready for this! Being overweight my entire life, and coming from a huge Italian family where food is everything, I have never been able to lose weight and keep it off. I have tried different programs (WW, Jenny Craig, Omnitrition) as well as attending a weight loss clinic and wasting thousands of dollars. The breaking point for me was going to the gym, everyday for 2 hours wit…

Hi everyone. I'm 22 years old and having surgery on Thursday. I am 185 pounds and I couldn't be more nervous. I am having the mini gastric bypass surgery and really really don't know what to expect. I'm having the surgery for 2 reasons. One- my mother and father have always disapproved of my weight and this was a college graduation gift. The other is that I've had major surgery on my femurs and knees when I was younger, so this extra weight is no good for my bones. Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm worried about post op. The foods you can eat and the portions sizes. I've never had an issue with over eating. I gained roughly 50 pounds in college between the lat…

Hey all, this has been a very long journey for me. I completed all of my classes successfully, went in for surgery in November and the day of the surgery it was cancelled. WHY? Lol, another story for another day. Either way u did not give up and a rebegan my commitment this February. On May 9th I went under and I am four days post opt. Excited is not the word. I never cared about my size because I feel big is beautiful....I have always been gorgeous. In fact I have a tattoo that says ms. Big and beautiful. However there is nothing sexy about unhealthy and with my weight climbing, the complications were crazy. I've been obese my entire life..I wore a womans 14 when I was…

Hi all! My name is Brenda, I'm 5'2", 37 yo and had my sleeve done on July 15th. My highest weight was 240 in January and I was 213 day of surgery. I'm at 3 weeks post op and am down to 200! Yay! Of course I have now been at 200 for almost a week, kind of frustrating, especially when I want to hit that major milestone I guess I wasn't expecting to plateau so soon. I gather from the other posts I've read that it is not uncommon and I'll get through it. The other thing I wasn't expecting was to be so hungry! My stomach was growling within hours of surgery. Fortunately my stomach is small. I do worry about what will happen in a few months when I am able to tolerate mor…

I had the surgery for my lapband Sept 2011. I lost 20lbs pretty quick and then it came to a crawl. They kept adding more and more Fluid to my band. From the 1st day I was able to eat soft food the Diarrhea started. I could be half way through a container of yogurt and I had to run to the bathroom. I called the nurse and they said, cant be from the band, that doesn't happen to banded patients only gastric bypass patients. ok so I thought its just my stomach getting used to the band. Two months go past and I have the same issue with solid foods. Again I tell my doctor and she insisted it was NOT the band. So now its been 4 years of not going anywhere because what if i…

I'm really struggling right now. For the past five months I've been dealing with a really severe stricture. I had it dialated last month and it helped a little bit now the doctor wants to dialate it again. This stricture is in part responsible for how much weight I've lost. I've never not had it from day one so I don't know what normal sleeve restriction feels like. I've surpassed my goal weight and keep losing. I can't seem to want to stop losing. And I'm terrified if I have my stricture fixed I might begin to gain weight back. It gives me such a limit on how much I can eat and I like having that control. I'm afraid I won't have it once it's gone!!! I'm so scare…

Hello, I just got home from my evaluation appointment today and am now waiting to hear back about my pre-op. It was the first time in a long time that I didn't feel like a freak after leaving the doctors office. I am scared and nervous, but I know this is something I must do. My journey down this road started in 1995. That is when I got my first hernia. It was small and appeared 6 months after I had my gall bladder removed. I didn't even know what it was but it hurt very badly and when I went to the ER they rushed me in to operate on it. I thought that was the end of it, little did I know it was only the beginning. 6 months later I had to have another emergency…

Hi Everyone, I am new to the forum and have been enjoying reading post about a whole variety of topics! I am currently on day 13 post op sleeve and have lost about 17 pounds so far. My recovery has been pretty easy so far (I think); I've not had any pain, and aside from the desire to chew, I haven't felt deprived. The incisions pull a bit but no biggie and they removed my drain before I left the hospital so I never really had to deal with that. All in all, I'm feeling good and glad I went through with the surgery. Thanks to all of you who have answered questions I didn't even know I had yet!

Take this for what it is, just my personal thoughts and experiences but that being said, I had a lapband for 6 years, Iv had the sleeve for a year and a half and I worked for a bariatric surgeon for almost 7 years. I LOVED my band, I went from 223 to 139 lbs and I maintained around 145 for years ! However, in order to do that I had to keep the band very tight. I couldn't eat anything before noon or after 6 without pain and suffering. When my body had enough I had shoulder pain and chest pain and never just felt full. I was always dehydrated and ended up with kidney stones twice but i was happy to sacrifice because I was a size 6/8 for the first time in my life ! But l…

About 8 1/2 years ago, I finally got to the point where I was tired of being fat and started looking into having bariatric surgery. I researched everything I could find, and I thought that the Lap-Band was the best fit for me. At the time, the only options available to me were Lap-Band and RNY bypass. VSG was not very common in the United States at the time, and was not covered by most insurance plans. As a comparative light-weight (I was in the high 30s BMI, and just barely had a BMI of 40 the day of surgery), I thought that the lap-band was the perfect solution. At the time, it was being heavily advertised as "the next big thing" in bariatrics, with a projected suc…
