Hello everyone! I guess I'm supposed to introduce myself, so here I go! I am on my 17th month of being 29 years old, lol, and I am a stay at home mommy to my incredible 3.5 year old little man! I have been married since 05.03.08 to my super handsome and super supportive husband. I have struggled with my weight for my entire adult life which has also caused infertility. In December 2014 I found out that my husband's insurance covers WLS 100%, so I jumped right in and haven't turned back! My insurance required a 6 month diet, and I just had my last check in about 2 weeks ago. This morning I got my email with my surgery date, and I am beyond ecstatic to say that I will be sl…

I am a married, 49 year old new mom. To a 12 year old. I never had a weight problem until I was in my 20's. I got into an abusive marriage that lasted for 5 long agonizing years. I was told I was fat ( I weighed 150 when we married), I was worthless and nobody else would ever want me. I had black eyes, bruised ribs and had a gun held to my head on several occasions. When you go through that, daily, you start to believe it. I gave up on myself. In those 5 years, I turned to food. It never let me down or disappointed me. I had gained 60 lbs by the time I got out of that marriage. Then I met my current husband. He is everything my ex was not. He was a little overweight but,…

My story is I was over weight since I was little. I have lost and gained so many times. I finally found out our insurance paid for the surgery. I told my parents I was seeing a nutritionist, as I run a home daycare and my mom is my back up provider. I went to the seminar in January followed all the appts needed by my insurance and had surgery on June 15. I lost about 10 lbs before surgery and since I have lost 34 1/2 lbs. I am excited that I have so much energy. I walk 5-6 days a week about 3-4 miles. I am eating just about anything I want. But I can only eat about 3 ozs at a time. Drinking all the water I can. I can not stand protein shakes and have not drank …

Ok so I am 11 days out and discovered I have lactose sensitivity or intolerance, which sucks because I am on protein shakes and Greek yogurt and applesauce. I stocked up on rtd premier shakes which apparently have a milk base so of course it makes me nauseous. Then the yogurt turns my sleeve in all kind of ways then bam I'm making a mad dash to the bathroom not knowing which end it's gonna come out of. I'm so confused but I have an appointment with my doc tomorrow to discuss my options, but the good thing is I go to puree stage in 2 days. Fighting this head hunger and can only have sweet stuff like sf jello and sf popsicles an unsweetened applesauce is killing me. I also…

This weekend was really hard. The week seemed to fly by no problems with having my three supplements and 64oz of water. But boy if I don't keep busy, it's hard. Still on track just having a hard day today. Words of encouragement much needed. I see before and after pics of everyone and that helps.

My name is Tim and I just discovered this web site. I had gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Teresa LaMasters in West Des Moines, IA back on December 30, 2014. I have had serious weight problems most of my life with the exception of my time in the military where I just wasn't able to eat whatever I wanted. My issue was definitely portion control and now just the thought of how much I would once eat seems like an incredible amount of food. I am just over 6 months post-op now and I have lost 83 pounds from my heaviest weight. I started at 315 and dropped to 311 day of surgery; I am now 232. I had several other medical conditions related to weight including high blood pressure,…

I have been overweight all of my life. I was born at 10 LBS 8 OZS, and just kept going from there. In thinking back in trying to pin point everything I think the biggest influence on my life/size was many things. I was the product of divorced parents and neither of them wanted me so I was given (thankfully) to my very loving Paternal Grandparents at the age of 4 months old. My “mom” was 42 and my “dad” was 65, they were raised and carried forward that mentality of be grateful for what you have because others do not have all we do. So we were feed “stick-to-your-ribs” food, large portions, and you must clean your plate. Still to this day, I have that mentality of I must cl…

I've had several people mention they think I am getting too thin and need to stop losing. Especially my mom, who has taken it upon herself to make comments about my weight my entire life. I'm always either too fat or too thin for her. How do you deal with these reactions from people? I need some advice. I'm 5'6 and at 128. I'd like to maintain at 120-125. Yes I'm very thin but I like it. I feel beautiful.

Hi I just wanted to introduce myself. I just created my profile and I must say this comunity is sooo great!! I have my first appointment with the surgeon in a couple of weeks! I am excited, confused, happy and freaking out at the same time. I'm not decided 100%, but I just know that I need to loose more than 80 pounds and I can't seem to think about anything else lately. I just hope that by reading your stories I get the motivation I need to go through what all of you have and are going though right now. It feels good knowing I am not alone, even if I have very little support from my family and friends regarding the WLS. I just bought myself the Big Book o Gastric S…

I am officially 51 pounds down and 3 months post op. I'm very happy with the results of my surgery, and surprisingly enough I'm excited about going on vacation on Thursday. I have been following my diet and exercise regime very strictly, and I'm very happy about it. I'll keep everyone updated about how my first vacation after surgery went . I feel excited and about this journey that I have taken and looking forward towards actually making healthier eating choices while on vacation like I have been doing for the the two months since I've been eating solid foods.

Hey everyone I just had my gastric sleeve surgery on Monday am still in the hospital. Surgery was scheduled for 1 PM however I walked into the operating room at 4:15 and was in recovery by 5:25 cording to the doctor and my family. after waking up in recovery the only pain I had was back pain from all the gas used in my body. On a pain scale 1 to 10 my pain level was a 8-9????, they quickly gave me something and I dozed back off????. I spend the next few hrs in recovery waiting on a empty room. I was in my room by 9:30pm and by then was in no pain at all. As a matter of fact I felt so good that I started walking at 10pm for about 20 mins Monday night doctors and nurse wa…

I was sleeved on May 25, 15 in Tijuana, Mexico by dr. Ponce de leon. I have to say that if was the most positive experience for me and my husband. I had the best of care from the nurses, doctors and especially our cooridinators, Little Robert & Carmen, Little Robert was at the hospital within the hour of our arrival and took my husband for something to eat (he is diabetic), that gesture alone eased my mind before going into surgery. They prepared me for surgery by doing blood work and EKG and gave me something to relax me. Surgery took about 45 minutes and I did not experience any pain or gas, I was up walking around about 3 hours after the anestitic wore off, I d…

I'm new to it all. Two weeks out today. I'm down 22lbs in those two weeks which is great. I feel like a teen again where I could just shed it off if it crept up on me. At 55 it wasn't moving off so well. I thought long and hard about what I was really expecting from this journey. I view the sleeve as a tool. It's only good if you use it properly the rest of your life. It's not a magical tool that solves all my problems. It's during this first year I must educate myself on how to use this tool for life long results. I taught for 25 years I know that there is no easy fix. It still is going to boil down to eating clean and healthy and exercise. I also have to come up with an…

Hello...I live in Baltimore, MD and I just had gastric bypass surgery Friday, July 17th. I did very well and was able to go home the next day. I am able to walk, go up and down stairs, and sit upright position in a chair. There is not a lot of pain, but I am uncomfortable from the gas. I have yet to make a bowel movement or burp. I have been practicing my breathing exercise with my pump. I have to remind myself to drink more frequently because I'm just not hungry or thirsty.

Hi everyone, I had to create a new account because I had phone troubles and forgot all my info. I am a 54-year-old woman, with 4 grown children, 11grandchildren, 1 living two-hour, 4 step-grandchildren, and, though my husband passed away before he even knew it was in the making, 1 beautiful step-great-grandchild. These are the reason that I, along with my youngest daughter, made the decision for WLS. My husband passed away in 2013, at the age of 61, due to COPD, caused by smoking. Life style changes made earlier in his life may have given us more time together, but he couldn't make them. He left behind some devastated children and grandchildren, and never knew he was t…

3 weeks out and my biggest obstacle is realizing my food isn't going to run away from me when I'm eating. It's not going anywhere and I can take my time. I also need to learn that I'm unable to eat near the amount I used to before. These changes are scary but so helpful. Who is with me?!

I was sleeved yesterday and came home today. The clear liquid diet has been brutal. I have Isopure protein drinks but have only been able to get about a quarter of one serving down today. I can eat Jello and take small sips of water, but I don't see how I'm going to get all the protein or hydration I need early on. Is this normal? I am supposed to transition to full liquids tomorrow.

Hi everyone, I was banded on 5-18-13 and converted to the VGS on 3-4-15 the band was removed and sleeved in the same day. I did not have much success with the band. My starting weight was 256 and when I was converted over I weight 226. The lowest weight I ever got down to was 199 but that was because the band was two tight and I could not even hold Water sometimes. I was a fight with the band. Since my conversion, ive lost 13 pounds which is not bad for almost 30 days post op. My doctor did state that since my body is already use to eating smaller meals the weight may come off slightly slower then for someone who never had a bariatric procedure. I'm still on soft foods …

Hello Everyone! Quick overview.... Started with my highest weight at 328, and was banded at 280 on March 30th 2010 in Mexico. I got all my fills and aftercare from Kaiser North Bay. Lowest weight was 190 in 2014 right after having my first baby. Now after my second baby I am up to 235. I am having problems with my band and finding a "sweet spot" for getting back on track. I am sure my pregnancies did a number on moving things around. I just went to a bariatric doctor yesterday in South San Francisco (my normal one is on vacation, so I saw his colleague) He was unable to fill be due to not finding the port and saying I was too heavy. I was very frustrated since I have…

Hi folks, My name is Kelly and I am so glad to find this site with all info I need. I've been obese all my life, but hey, isn't that everyone's story who is here. I've asked my doctor months in a row for a request to be put in for a gastric bypass. He finally had his receptionist put one in to a doctor in a different city and was told each time I asked that there is a five year waiting list. It's no longer about vanity, it's about being able to continue to walk and continue work for the next 10 -17yrs. I have no idea as to when I'll hear from Dr. Marc Savoie in Bathurst N.B. and I know it will come down to his decission as to if I get this proceedure done. I've ne…

This journey we travel on has so many stops and starts. Long layovers and a few bad airplane meals( make mine purée please mama) but as we reach our destination we as much excitement as a 5year old going to Disney along the way we realize we are on a full flight and the passengers are all warm and friendly. The hope is that during the journey everyone loses more than weight and gains more than a slimmer body. I hope you all make peace with what ever was driving you to try and eat away the problem. My dr suggested I Read Eat Move Sleep by Tom Rath. A good quick read to begin reshaping your mind. Everyone keep up the good work and make this journey a successful one.

There is more to this journey than just not being as hungry. There is a very mental side to re- understanding your body's signs for real hunger learning to chose healthy foods and breaking away from the things that got you here to start with. There are a few books that I've found or were suggested to my by my Bariatric psychologist. 1. Eat, Move,Sleep by Tom Rath 2. Lose Weight Easily by Loving Who You Are. Conquering the mental emotional side of losing weight. By S Wharton 3. The Body Book by Cameron Diaz

Well I am three days out, and am pretty excited about the new life ahead. I finally decided to go the surgeon when I was getting no where with my Primary Care Physician, I knew what I needed was for my blood work to be done on a constant basis for me to be able to control my diet. I felt like things would be in line and then get out of whack I could tell because how I felt. It all was centered around my period as well, so I could never get to a good place on eating. I was constantly feeling bloated and PMS(craving all the bad things). She finally agreed to do blood work one month two following, She was amazed at how drastically some of my numbers fluctuated, …

Oh My Goodness!!! My husband and I are both two days post-op. The gas pains are at times almost unbearable. That's the only problem we've had so far. I had walked 50 laps around our floor at hospital before we came home last night. This morning at 6am we were at the park walking again. Then I walked around Wal-Mart waiting for my prescriptions. I don't want to take pain meds for gas pain, but at this point I don't know what else to do.

I just got the call that my insurance approved today and my surgery is set for May 21. I just got finished with vacation so from here on my new life is about to begin. I kind of had my "fat funeral" on vacation. Didn't go crazy, just ate what ever I wanted knowing it would be the last time in a long time. I'm an emotional binge eater too so I'm most worried about that when stress becomes a factor. Looking for some other people going on this journey at the same time so we can support and encourage each other. My husband had the lap band in 2007, which hasn't worked for him long term. He is urging me to do this because he feels it will be better results than the band. He w…

Hello everyone! My name is Lolly and I'm a 44 years young single mom of 2 great kids, a girl and a boy, ages 21 and 16 respectively. I just found this app so this is my first post. I'm thrilled to say that I had my gastric bypass on July 10th and thankfully everything went very smoothly! So the past few months I've been absolutely confident that I'm doing the right thing, knowing full well it will change my life in so many ways. But as I wake up today, 24 hours before surgery all I can think of is the difficult moments ahead - not necessarily in the short term (next month) but in the long term. Yesterday I was at a wedding. It was so difficult to keep saying "no" to all the food I was offered, or that others were eating around me. I'm not a big drinker at all but I so badly wanted so badly to have a beer - just one- at a good brewery close to the wedding venue. But I refrained. Second thoughts are spiraling around in my head but yet I know what …
