Tomorrow is my big day and oh lord is it all hitting me. My pre op diet I stuck to like glue and I feel ready. This is exciting to me and I feel the relief already. I know my journey is far from over. But the support has been amazing. I never thought my family and friends would ever be this supportive, but it's been amazing.

Just before my 10th birthday my stepfather began coming into my room at night while my mother was at work. This continued until I was 12 years old. I tried several times to tell my mother over those years what was happening to me but she didn't want to hear it and I didn't know what words to use. My grandmother stayed with me once and figured it out and also tried to stop it but again, her words fell on deaf ears. Her attempts caused a huge rift between her and my mother that was never repaired. I finally stopped it myself. Many ramifications. The most lasting one besides my view of the world was my view of myself. Somehow, I blamed the way I looked. If I didn't lo…

I guess I should share my story of why I've chosen to have the gastric sleeve surgery. Well, after being told that I developed high blood pressure, severe sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis (all a result of my weight gain) I thought it was time to deal with this weight problem. To be honest, if I had not acquired these conditions I would have never given bariatric surgery a thought. I felt I looked good and healthy, so end of story. Oh, but I was deceiving myself. Apparently my body is screaming for help and help is exactly what I need. I know that bariatric surgery isn't the cure all. Exercise and a healthy diet are just as important. I've embraced this wholeheartedly.…

I am having my sleeve on Monday. I have been over weight since high school. I have lost and gain over the years but can not ever keep the weight off. I am excited to be able to finally lose and show my extended family that you can do it. I have no support from my husbands side of the family (they think I am taking the easy way) and my hubby is trying to diet with me. I believe he is getting frustrated because I am currently on my pre-op and I am losing about 2 lbs a day, he has not lost but a few pounds total. I am excited to get this started and I started at 260ish lbs. I am down to 244. I am happy with the way things are progressing and look forward to getting d…

I've always been a bigger girl. But in 6th grade I got fat and went on my first diet ordered by my doctor. Ever since then I've had a negative look of myself. I was always in lot of athletics participating in every sport I could, I was still fat. I was a popular girl because I was in so many sports. Now I'm in college, still an athlete, and still obese. I have back problems, asthma, low self confidence. It's time for a change. I'm ready to lose the weight I've been trying to lose for 8 years now, and live the life I've been dreaming of.

Hello all! This is a wonderful forum. So many questions answered and others popping up for me. I have Cigna insurance and I am not sure if it will be three or six months of prep but I am willing to jump through the hoops as long as I can see a VSG at the end of the tunnel. I am 57 year old female. I have struggled with anorexia and binge eating, both ends of the spectrum. I have been able to lose weight in the past, but have never been able to keep my weight down. The last five years, what worked for me before is no longer working and I get nowhere. Last year I saw a dietician for four months and lost three pounds and I exercised like a fiend. 90 minutes, five…

I had gastric bypass on Dec.31st 2014 yes I'm a newbie still it's only been 6 months almost 7 and it hasn't been an easy road but so worth it I promise. My starting weight was 410 and night of surgery I was 347 today I am 269. It's a whole new world for me and so many doors have open. I feel more happier and I'm wearing jeans again which I haven't in years. There's still a long way to go but I'm so glad I decided to get control of my life back.

There was no obvious internal hernia but the dye was backing up into my liver which is no good so I ended up having emergency laparoscopic exploratory surgery. I am feeling pretty good just 1 day out other then the medical gas making my shoulders & neck sore. Anyone else have this happen to them? The surgeon said its common after losing 100 or so pounds which I have done. And he fixed what they call the "Peterson's Defect" a know defect after RNY however they can not fix it with th…

At my highest weight I was 247 at surgery I was 237 and I'm 5'1 I was always depressed and hated how I felt about myself. I always thought I was not a very smart person had no self esteem. I thought about having the surgery in 2013 but I felt I was not ready at the time. In 2014 I was tired of being sick and tired all the time. I felt so ready to have the surgery I committed to myself that I was going to get healthy. It was the best decision I ever made! I went from a size 22 to a 4. I am confident for the first in my life I also can think clear and made good decisions. I thank the good Lord ev…

I had surgery yesterday! I'm so excited to start my new life. At my heaviest I was 358 pounds and right now, due to the pre-op fasting I now weigh 340. I'm 34 years old, 6'1" tall, and have set my goal weight at 200. I'm very sore today as the doctor also repaired a hiatal hernia, but the pain medication is helping. I read another post on here that someone is able to eat fast-food chicken sandwiches and Pasta. My doctor told me to avoid those high starch foods. I'm looking at this as a tool for long-term weight loss and not something that will allow me to eat whatever I want in smaller portions. Am I wrong in my thinking process? :-)

I am an expert diet pro. I have gained/lossed 80%/40% of my body weight respectively. I have done this more than I can count. My husband of 10 years met me as I was hitting a low weight 152. We've been married 10 years and I have ballooned up to 227. He has never treated me any different. I fought the deadliest form of breast cancer and so far 5.5 years out and I'm still alive. PCOS, Hidradenitis Supportuvia, Cauda Equina Syndrome, Diabetes have reaked havoc on my body and mind. We discussed several options but decided on definitely going with the gastric sleeve. He feels like I am a great candidate for the surgery. Now the painstaking part slogging through insurance begins. Apparently my insurance will require six months of documented dieting to allow me to move forward (as if I haven't tried everything in the last 50 years) but ok....I will play. The insurance has assigned me a caseworker and I am going to be conferencing by phone with her on Thursday evening for her to lay out the program etc. I will also be meeting with…

This weeks marks five months since my lap-band surgery. After so many attempts to lose weight. So many yo-yo diets this has finally paid off into a road to better health and a longer life. In exactly, five months I have lost a total of 88 pounds and 12 inches on my waist. At first, I was truly skeptical on this working and being able to consume only 1200 calories a day and be full and stay healthy. All I can say is this had met all my expectations and it has worked above and beyond. I have about another 50 pounds to go and as many of the older posts that I have read. The remaining pounds are always the hardest. I say bring it on!!!! Wish me luck!!!!

Hi, my name is Amber. I had my gastric bypass on 6/10/2015. My starting weight was 266. The day I came home from the hospital I was up to 277. Thanks to the extra fluids I had to get to be able to urinate. I am now twelve days out and weigh 253. I have been doing pretty well with my fluids and protein. This is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I have to admit years ago I was one of those people who said it was the easy way out. Boy was I wrong. I know with each day that goes by this was the best decision I have ever made. Good luck to us all..... We deserve it.
