I am here in Tijuana and getting ready for my surgery this morning. I made the choice to go through BariatricPal with dr. Jesus Lopez Dominez. For anyone scheduled to do the same or thinking about it, I wanted to give an update on my experience so far. Just wanted to give everyone an update. First, my surgery is scheduled for noon your time (we are two hours earlier here). I will get to the hospital two hours earlier for some testing and prep for the surgery. Pat will have my phone and will up date everyone as he knows. The procedure should take about an hour. We arrived at San Diego yesterday morning. We were picked up at the airport by a super nice young ma…

Hello all!!! My name is Thomas, or Tom or Tommy! I am 34 year young and currently live in North NJ (Bergen County). I am married for just over 5 years. I have been obese my entire life, and late last year I decided I wanted to take the steps to a better life and a healthier life. I am going to be having the gastric sleeve procedure done, on July 22nd (just found out my date this morning). I am extremely excited!! I have done WW in the past, other diet fads, nothing really worked or stuck. My first time I did WW as an adult was about 8 years ago and the reason I started was prerequisite for gastric bypass surgery (had a date, but did not have the surgery). I never had th…

I am excited and nervous, but I am ready to get this started. I went to informational meeting on Jan 8, 2015. Started nutrition classes in Feb, had to go once a month for 4 months for insurance to cover the operation, had my pre-op appt on the 3 of June along with EKG, blood work and chest X Ray. I am on my pre-op diet now and doing good. I got to different kinds of protein shakes, tried chocolate (which is not my favor flavor) put ice in it and didn't do so well. So I tried vanilla last night and it made me physically sick. This morning tried the chocolate again, but put it in the freezer for a bit and did good. Going to Vitamin shoppe today to try and get some ot…

Yesterday I saw one of my sisters-in-law who I haven't seen for a couple months. She was going on and on about how awesome I look and how jealous she was. She asked me what I weigh now and when I told her she said that I was 10 lbs less than her. I could not believe it because I have always considered her to be slim. Sure she has some more padded areas, but that's not unusual for a 50 year old mother of two. To know that I weigh less than her is incredible to me. We are very close in height so that doesn't make a big difference. At 6 months out and feeling like the scale isn't moving fast enough this was a great NSV.

Almost two years ago I had my band taken out after having it for three years due to it slipping twice. I was able to get to my goal weight with it however, I've been struggling with weight gain. This morning I found out that my insurance approved my sleeve surgery. I feel so fortunate and grateful.

Hello all. I am thankful to finally be able to eat food but finding it hard to really eat well. I have eaten so much fish and I am just tired of it. What are your go to foods? How many calories are you able to get in during a day? I am eating about 400 to 500 a day right now.

I'm going to be honest, I hadn't any trouble with keeping food down until my first major fill 3 weeks ago. It took me back to my surgery basics--small bites, chew & chew & chew some more, stay hydrated & Protein first. I wasn't following the rules & was losing most everything I was eating. I was uncomfortable & burping a lot (apologies for being so blunt). After a call to the dr's office, had a 1:1 with the nutritionist who reminded me of the band basics. Things are much better & I'm actually down 16 pounds. I've noticed since my last fill (I've only had 2), I can no longer tolerate anything "bad" for me, so I'm not even tempted because I can't ke…

After a false start 3 years ago, when I thought i wanted to be banded...but couldn't find a surgeon who was 'pro-banding' in New Zealand - I went it alone for a further 3 years, yo-yo-ing, becoming fit, then getting injured - it was the typical weight roller coaster that I have endured since about the age of 8. I was very sporty as a kid and was even the sports prefect at high school. But alas as the years went on, my activity levels dropped and the weight piled on. The most success I have had is with low carb diets. I successfully lived low carb for 7 years....and maintained my weight during this time. But it was a struggle every day. The weight I maintained was …

About a week ago I started to do better and be able to eat more solid food. It's been three months since my surgery and this is the first time off liquids. I've been really struggling and throwing up a lot and it's been rough! Anyway I had a good week and ate some cheese and chips and guacamole and salads! These are all new for me. Then I started to worry- what if my sleeve is gone and now I can eat again? I still have 8 pounds to lose and what if I never get there and start to gain? What if my restriction is gone? I have been wanting to eat a sandwich for months. I crave them so badly. This morning I decided shoot I'm doing so good, let's try a subway turkey breas…

I had surgery on Tuesday June 2nd I am having more pain today than I have since the first day after surgery. I haven't been taking pain pills because I can't sleep and they make me itch. I can handle the pain I just want to make sure it's nothing serious. I have been walking a lot. I still feel bloated and haven't had a BM since before surgery. (Sorry TMI, I know). Anybody else have these issues?

So I have been told that after being sleeved, I must wait 15 minutes after drinking fluids to eat any food. Also must finish eating and wait 30 minutes before drinking anything or it will all come back up! How true is this for you?? I would love some input on how you handle this.

I love this site, I had no question to ask The surgeon up until I joined this forum. Today I was able to put them questions to work and I was very impressed with what I had learned. Well it has been 1 week since my surgery and I have lost 16 lbs! I am over the moon! I know that rate won't keep up so I am relishing the moment. I have had terrible abdominal pain for the last week. It began to subside yesterday which is great, but now I am really tired. I can barely keep my eyes open right now. And I have experienced my first bout of head hunger. I have not been hungry at all since my surgery. And I haven't had any cravings until today. Now I really want Peanut Butter and chocolate but not a Reeses, just mountains of peanut butter and chocolate. Lol. I know this is completely in my head and I am trying to get it out by having a chocolate Protein s…

Hi all, I can't tell you how much this forum has helped answer my questions, calm my nerves, and encouraged me to pursue WLS. I've been lurking for several months as I jump through all the pre-surgery hoops, but just found out yesterday that my insurance approved the surgery and I'm scheduled for 6/23/15! My stats: Age: 35 Gender: Female Height: 5'6" HW: 256 CW: 242 (BMI 39) GW: 145 I'm ecstatic, but suddenly it's all getting real and I'm a little overwhelmed. I think that, because my BMI is on the low-end of the scale (wavering between 39 and 40), I'm now questioning if I should take such a drastic step to lose weight. I mean, I have a boyfriend w…

Hello all, First off congrats to all those who have decided to take a step towards WLS and bettering themselves. I am a 21 year old recent college graduate and I HAD decided to do the gastric sleeve surgery. I actually enjoying exercising and its never really been an issue for me except the fact that when I stop going to the gym, ill gain back x2 the weight loss I had in the beginning. Nonetheless, WLS seems like a tool I can use to maintain my goal weight which is 150lbs (I'm currently at 241). I had 6 months preparing for this surgery and my scheduled date is June 15. Now here's where things get a bit more complicated, I have lately been a bit anxious and scared becau…

I had my gastric bypass surgery on July 22nd. I decided to have the surgery due to multiple medical reasons and of course wanting to loose the weight. I got pregnant when I was 18 and have been overweight since. I am now 33 and have 2 wonderful kids. I am married to the most wonderful man in the world and he is the most awesome step father to my kids. They all encouraged me and supported me throughout this process. At 5 months out from surgery I have gone from 280 lbs at my heaviest to 186.2 as of this morning!! I feel like a new person. Just like most everyone I have had some ups and downs but I would make the same decision to have this done if I had to do it all over a…

So I have never posted in the forum before. I want to thank everyone who has posted however, as I have found a ton of great information in here on a number of subjects. I had my 6 month post op visit today. My starting weight was 377 lbs on December 15th. As of today, I am down to 229 pounds. I've lost 148 pounds in 6 months!! It's really kind of like a dream most days, it just doesn't seem real. I have definitely put in the work between what I eat and when/how I exercise. I am very proud of that. I still feel like I have another 30-50 pounds to lose, but I also know my body will stop when it is ready. Anyway, I just wanted to share my success with you all. Ke…

Hi. I had the GS on July 31, 2014. I'm six weeks pregnant. I have a daughter (3yr old). We were wanting to have a baby for near 7 years and I was able to conceive on 2011 due to a fertility treatment. So, this is huge news for us. In my first pregnancy I was overweight (270lbs) and I only gained 14lbs. I have heard stories of women that had become pregnant after the surgery and they still loose weight. Well, that's not my case and I'm worried. I have gained 4 pounds already. As I told my nutritionist, I feel I have gained 20 pounds. I feel so bloated, I look like a 3 month pregnant! I still on my diet, I eat well and as healthy as possible. Rapid gain weig…

Hello Everyone!! I am new to bariatricpal.com, I joined a few months ago, but really wasn't sure what I was doing. I went to get my pre-op blood work done this morning and the phlebotomist that was drawing my blood told me great things about this site, as she had the band done several years prior. I am glad that I am getting the chance to sit back and go through all of this. I am going to start with telling everyone a little about myself. My name is Tracy, I am 33 years old, I am married to the love of my life Marc. He has a daughter (Olivia) from a previous marriage that was adopted from China, so I became an instant step-mom, she can be a handful at times but I lov…

Excited to share that my insurance approved me today and my gastric bypass surgery is scheduled for April 6! Feeling a range of emotions but mostly I'm feeling really motivated. Both my surgeon and my PCP think I'm going to do really well with the surgery and I've been doing really well with the liver shrinking diet. I'm excited about this new chapter of my life and using my new tool to lead a long and healthy life!

Hey guys, I know I post on here a lot, but this is my community of support. Adjusting to life after the sleeve has not been easy psychologically for me. Going through the daily routine of taking my Vitamins and eating Protein is taxing. Knowing that my health depends on me taking vitamins everyday sucks. Before surgery, I would take vitamins but there were season were I wouldn't take anything for a couple months at times and I start back up sporadically. Now that I'm sleeved not taking my vitamins will result in my going bald and possibly in the hospital. I feel like I added a handicap for myself. Going to dinner functions is depressing, because I can't eat. 3 bites an…

Hi everyone! This is my 9 day of my preop diet and I have already lost 10 lbs! My surgery is not until June 18 so I am excited to continue to lose more - hopefully 15 to 25 lbs. Anyways, I am having horrible constipation that is causing me pain. It's bothered me the past couple of days and so last night I took some stool softener and laxative, bug it's still not working. It says it might take 2 to 3 days to work which seems like a long time. I'm calling the doctor today. Has anyone else have this problem? What happened? Any solutions?
