I am just wondering how long everyone took off from work. I am an RN and so I am on my feet the entire time basically. Heavy lifting. I work 12 hour shifts. So I'm trying to gage how long to expect to need off. Thank you!

I sit at a desk all day. I was back to work 15 days after surgery. I had a better than text book recovery. I had a 20 pound weight lifting restriction at that point. I was at 40 pounds by 4 weeks and unrestricted if it felt comfortable at 6 weeks. At 6 weeks I was pretty comfortable carrying 50 pound horse feed bags. I don't routinely carry more than that.

I did have a hiatal hernia repair at the same time but I don't think that would have changed the weight limits.

I am an RN too but my job is a desk job....still my PCP ordered 4 weeks post op recovery. I was sleeved 5/26/15 and won't be released to return to work until 6/23/15. Your doctor should tell you as being a floor nurse is much more demanding with 12 hour shifts.

Hey there! I'm am RT and i was wondering the same thing! I was sleeved June 1 and my doctor will not even consider me going back to work until the 24th. And even at that I will not be fully released to lift more than 20 lbs until 6 weeks. I also had a hernia repair so that plays a factor as well. My advice is if you have the time take it!

I was back at work in 6 days. I only took 3 days off. I sit at a desk mostly. I had a 20lb weight restriction for 6 weeks. I thought recovery wasn't bad at all. The first 48 hrs were rough but after that I was good. My doctor told me prior to my c section that walking is best as soon as possible after surgery. I used that advise for my sleeve surgery also. I think that was a big reason for my quick recovery.

Oh good to know, I'm planning on going back to work 6 days after my June 30th surgery. I really need to get back to work ASAP since it's a fairly new job. I also sit most of the day, I just have to make sure to get up and walk a lot.

Also an RN, but in orthopedic surgery. I am taking 28 days, but, hopefully, will work on my policy/procedure manual updates when I go back. Guess that will depend on how crazy it is between now and then. Have to admit I am kinda worried about scrubbing a hip replacement.

My surgery is scheduled for July 2nd, the 4th will be fun this year, and i am planning to go back to work on July 13th. I work in IT and have a desk job so hopefully that will be enough time.

Which procedure are you having? I am assuming sleeve, but just making sure.

I took ten days off. I am a regional office manager and I oversee 3 offices. I have to travel 2 hours one way for one office so that's the only thing that worried my surgeon. He told me to stop after an hour and walk for 5 min. Anyone else have to travel for work?

I am also an RN, I am taking my time to take care of me and getting to know my sleeve. Not being at work, struggling with adequate food and water intake while expected to be on the go taking care of everybody else's need. So I decided and my doc agreed that if I have the time take my six weeks to heal and adjust. And I did. Best decision ever. I was sleeved May 14th 2015.

I am also a RN and work in the ER. I took ten days off. The only thing is having a lift restrictions so any patient lifting I have other staff members do it for me. I have had tons of energy and probably would be bored staying home 6 weeks.

I was given 3 weeks by my doctor. He is so wonderful he would have given me more but I don't want to abuse the work leave. I have a desk job too so it really has nothing to do with heavy lifting but working and dealing with the low energy and graduation into liquids to puréed to mushy food takes some getting used to. He really felt that someone needs to time to get their eating on track... No rushing, no mindless eating ... Stick to sipping and chewing. I'm all for it. My energy level is terrible as well so it's nice to have the time to work on that while I start up my work out programs again. After 3 weeks I will be absolutely ready.

Yes I'm having the Sleeve & so excited!

It hard to get bored with a husband, and two teenage boys 15 and 17 years old. Lmbo. I simply catch up with my family needs. Funny how I learned that they also needed time adjusting to my needs. ( like please stop using up my protein powder).
