Hello, My name is Edwana. I am a 37-year-old African-American female. I have been struggling with my weight my whole life. You name it and I've tried it. I've been on a roller coaster ride and I desperately want to get off. I thought I had reached the departure point when I had the band surgery in 2010. Imagine how crushed I was when that tool never really worked for me from the start. I know that I am an emotional eater. .I work in the helping profession and I'm constantly bogged down by my own and others' emotional problems. My go to escape and happiness maker (for a moment) has been food. I definitely feel like I have matured over the last few years. I've le…

Hi, just thought I'd give a little introduction, as I've really enjoyed reading about everyone's successes here! My name is Josette, I'm 19 and from Oregon. I am set to have my sleeve done on the 23rd of June, 2015 in Coos Bay. I am on my second day of liquids! This won't be my first weight loss surgery, I had a band placed in 2013 in Mexico by Dr Ortiz, that had to be removed September 2014 in the states due to complications. Looking back I should have saved up and gotten the sleeve the first time, but I'm so excited to start my journey now; and I cannot wait to see all of your wonderful progress here! (: Here are my numbers: Hw: 350 Cw: 344 Sw: ? Gw: 160

Hi everyone! I am a 32 year old mom of 2. I started my bariatric surgery process on February 18th. I have completed all necessary requirements and now I'm waiting for approval and surgery date ????????????. I honestly cannot wait. I've been overweight since I was 5 with bouts of weight loss over the years, but nothing has stuck. This is my last resort. I'm so ready for this life change!!

I haven't posted much but had my daughter take pics and WOW is all I can say! At my top weight I was 210.....at 5'2" that is a lot. I got down to 196 on surgery day - 6/16/14. I had a pretty rough 6 weeks right after surgery but once I got on the proper medication the journey got pretty easy. Now 11 months post op and down to 129 it has been an awesome adventure. So pleased I had the sleeve done. I also show horses (and have for years), after I had lost about 75 pounds I was at a show, the judge was someone I showed with, she didn't recognize me and asked my trainer who that was riding my horse! Too funny. Thanks for letting me share!

I am beyond excited and nervous for this new journey in my life but boy am I ready. No one in my family understands how happy I was to get that phone call today, it's like I've won the lottery. I still have to work the time off with my job so I don't have the date yet but within the next 30 days I hope :-). Happy in Tennessee...

Hi all! I decided I want to document my journey for myself to keep track of how I do and what I run into as pros and cons. With this I hope I can help others with their anxiety pre and post surgery. Mine was off the charts and my guess is many of you are experiencing the same. So here we go...I was so very scared the day before and the day of that I almost cancelled. I literally almost bolted from the surgery center! HA! I kept telling all the staff how scared I was. I had never been put out before, and it is (was) literally one of my biggest fears (next to spiders, of course), so I was terrified something awful could happen. I kept informing all involved I ha…

My name is Anna, my stats are 5'5" Staring at 272, cl liq diet 246, 3 days post op. 238. I was sleeved on Tuesday June 16, 2015. I was able to discharge the next day and was happy to do so. (My surgeon said I could stay if I wanted too) I feel that I was able to go because I did a lot of work before my surgery. I had 4 months for my insurance so I started walking. I was up to about 2 miles every other day. This did get hard on the clear liq. I did for 2 weeks but for the most part it helped. The day of my surgery @ 10:00am I was walking at 3pm and did every hour. Belched a ton but really have not had to much shoulder pain from the gas. I have been nausea…

I had gastric sleeve on Monday and am still having a great deal of pain on my left side even with meds. Can anyone tell me what that might be? I am thinking it is where they cut the part of my stomach off. I also have a lot of bloating from the air but trying to walk to get rid of it. So excited to find this community to learn and share with.

7 weeks and 2 days post sleeve surgery. There's been tears of regret in the beginning, failure, starving, missing food but now I am out of that dark place and feeling so much better! Blood pressure is back down to normal levels, Cpap machine is being turned down, knee is feeling better and I am living a happier more active life already! Can't wait to continue to be even healthier. You can do this! Never give up!

I'm 2 weeks post op and 28 lbs down from my HW and I am delighted! I still feel like this was the best decision I have ever made for myself. However, I am having a little buyer's remorse maybe. For some reason it is just dawning on me (although I have known this for a year) that I will never be able to have ice cream or chocolate or cake on my birthday (or any one else's) ever again. Suddenly the finality of it is hitting me and I feel like I will be missing out on things. But then I tell myself that is ridiculous, because those are some of the things that got me to almost 300 lbs to begin with and by losing the weight I will actually be able to enjoy WAY more things in l…

Well, Here we go! Gonna start this thing and use it as sort of a blog for my journey, which I have dubbed Allen's Magical Mystery Tour. I guess Ill start off telling you guys what Ive already done and what is coming up. First, the stats - I am 5-6, 327.5 pounds as of today (6-18-15). This is my all time highest weight. I am 49 years old and always have been a big boy. I started this journey about a month ago at my PCP's office. We had mentioned before, in passing, about me doing the surgery, but she looked at me and asked me if I thought it was time, I thought about it a few days and asked her what I needed to do. Called insurance company to see if I was covered - …

I had my gastric bypass on March 12,2015 and it's been good but it wasn't easy because of the new change, new eating habits and trying to stay hydrated! I tried having the protein shake and it made me nauseous, they're days when I'm good and days when I feel weak but lately I have gotten a lot of energy and I exercise frequently now but I know God is helping me and he guides me threw this

Hello! I've been approved for surgery and I'm scheduled for surgery in Houston on June 19th. I haven't told anyone about this surgery. I've kept it private, which I'm sure I'll be happy abut in the long run,but for now that means I don't have a sounding board. I Also need a hernia repaired, which makes for a good cover. I'm ready to get this over with. I know it's what I need to do, but I feel nervous and a little alone. I have 2 kids and I'm divorced. I don't want them to worry about me. Well, thanks for reading this

Hello All. I had RNY on 5/4/15 with a weight of 245 so I'm exactly 3 weeks post - OP. And including the 3 day liquid diet, I have lost 25lbs. Admittedly the first couple of days were rough. A bit painful and I was prefer grumpy for a bout a week with nothing but water and protein shakes. ( God bless my poor family) I was a GROUCH ???? When I was able to wear some soft food and exercise, my mood changed. I noticed though that old habits called to me .... Like watching TV and naturally wanting to snack and commercials with food of any kind made me long to put real food in my mouth. All of the things that got me here were still in my mind trying to convince my stomach tha…

I had my 2nd of 4 Nut visits yesterday. On my 1st visit I was told I needed to lose at least 10 lbs for liver shrinkage. So.... I switched myself to a low carb, high protein diet. (Well mostly). I weighed yesterday and I lost 3.4 lbs in the last month!!! I'm thrilled with this! With my thyroid issues I hadn't lost weight in quite some time. I have until September to lose the rest and I'm looking forward to doing it. Baby steps, right?!?! No more 280's. I'm down to 278.8 and hopefully that's short lived too. Stay focused everyone!

Hello fellow Losers! I'm feeling very happy I have lost 7 pounds in two weeks as part of Stephh's 4th of July Challenge: thank you Stephh! It's helping me stay focused because I realise in the 'middle-earth' part of this weight loss journey, it could be very easy to get lost and find myself in trouble! One thing I still find challenging is dealing with tiredness. I woke at 5am today in order to be at work early and as it's my busiest time of the year so many days will be like this. Previously at this time, I pile on the pounds because I'd be too tired to cook and therefore eat sugar-laden, salt-infused, fat-heavy foods. Now, in order to maintain my better eating…

I'm new to this journey and preparing to get the sleeve surgery. Yesterday was my first consultation and luckily my insurance and doctor doesn't require much. I've already been on an supervised diet plan and I was able to get my psych, nutrition, and educational class all scheduled the same date one after another. As well as my upper GI & UGI is scheduled. Feeling great because everything is scheduled in the next two weeks and then they can submit everything to my insurance for approval. ????

I was just looking for some ideas for a post surgery wardrobe. I am guessing consignment shops and thrift stores? Also, do you get rid of the old clothes that are too big? I don't want to get into the mentality of "well I do have a bigger size here if I need it"!

Hello everyone. I'm Cryss and I'm new to the site. I'm in the beginning stages of WLS and I've chosen the VSG. I've done the initial seminar, consultation, initial dietician visit, I've been told how much to lose and now I'm on the diet plan that my dietician gave me. I made this decision at the suggestion of my endocrinologist. After getting some blood work done...he didn't like what he saw. I'm overweight, duh lol. My BMI is really high. I started thinking about how I've been struggling with my weight pretty much my whole life but DEFINITELY after the birth of my daughter. That was 15 years ago. I thought about not being around for my daughter. So I made the ch…

So I'm 5 days post op. Still sore when I move, can bend down and it's hard to sleep on my side. But that's not the problems. I'm having a hard time getting protein in. EVERY time I take a sip of water or shake I get gassy and bloated. Water makes me have gas. It's so uncomfortable. I take 2. 20 min walks min a day. And I walk up and down the driveway in between that and I still have gas. Any suggestions?

Hi all! Need some of your wonderful support and advice. I was sleeved on June 8 in TJ, Mexico and had a wonderful experience. Can't say enough good things about A Lighter You and Dr. Ortiz and staff. I drove 6 hours home yesterday with no problem. I stopped for walks and stayed hydrated and full of protein. When I weighed this morning I weighed exactly what I weighed on Sun before I left. I can't believe afer 3 days of clear liquids, the surgery and very little to drink after that the scale has not moved. I really do feel like a freak! I have 5 holes in my belly and I really think I was sleeved but what the hey...! Has anyone else had this experience. I do feel like I am …

I've had my first follow up visit and happy to know I've lost exactly 40 lbs since having my surgery on May 29. I must say I was skeptical on eating puréed food but thankfully I been able to season my chicken and beans and other food choices the saw way I would cook them. I've enjoyed the food taste.

I'm 2 months post op. I'm losing weight as I should, right on schedule, 34 lbs. I'm working out and drinking my water. That said, I feel amazing and have started to eat like I used to in social situations (not nearly as much or as often). A chip or two here, a bite of dessert there, and this past weekend was my 30th birthday so I had a few drinks, chips and dessert. The nurse practitioner told me everyday is a new day and to start over but I've been doing this, snacking a bit and what not for a few weeks and it's become a habit. I will not regain this weight and I want to have healthy life long habits but I'm falling hard into old habits. Advice? Help? Please!

Well I'm two weeks out after my gastric sleeve. I finally came to the conclusion that I needed surgery because my niece just couldn't take the extra weight. Now my insurance covered it, so it was time to go. at two weeks out I'm down 7 pounds. 35 pounds from the beginning of the monitor process. So far the most difficult thing is the figuring out when I'm truly truly hungry and not just had a hungry or stomach pain. My surgeon just advanced my diet to mushy foods. Which means anything I can chew or squish down to a mushy consistency:)))) Life moves ahead:)

I have amazing friends and we love to go out and party quite often. There's only one thing.. I miss out on so much because I hate my body. Its kills my self esteem every time I'm out and I can't even get a guys head to turn because I'm constantly surrounded by my beautiful tiny friends. Hello I had my sleeve done on May 4th, 2015. From the time I awoke in the hospital I have felt sick. They sent me home on Tuesday with only pain meds, a breathing thing (to aspirate my lungs-so no clots) and instructions on to 'SIP' my drinks. Well three days in and I was gagging a lot, throwing up and have had constant diarehha. I recently discovered something else I didn't have before Surgery...a hemroid! And I wasn't pushing anything out. Anyways I finally called the Dr's office and the nurse on duty said, "have you been taking your anti spasm and anti nausea meds? I said, "I wasn't sent home with any scripts but the one for pain" She was surprised and called me in th…

Still waiting for the rest of the glue to fall off. I had found out after surgery I was allergic to the glue. Benadryl and cortisone cream have been my friends. It is still a battle everyday to get in all my protein and liquid and pills. Overall, I loved my surgeon, hospital, and nurses. I haven't had any pain or nausea...just itching which is much better. This Wednesday will mark one month since my two week liquid diet and two weeks after surgery. I have gone from 366 to 328, so I am happy.
