After several financial setbacks and two years of researching gastric surgery I am a few days away from being scheduled, wish some had told me that a lot of insurances don't cover all the pre surgery procedures, I would say put some money aside early on to have the continuity, also make sure that before you even start that you are cool with knowing that you have to throw every single bad diet habit you were taught, and realize that there are too many things going on in life to even care about mealtime, also be willing to do some research, I have already saved a couple of hundred on my powders and vitamins just by going on the Internet and pricing similar products, remover…

  2. It just keeps getting more real with each passing day. Just this one last week of preop diet and then surgery day-4/27. I'm a little worried about just what it is going to feel like for me since the last surgery I had was when I was 6 yrs old- tonsillectomy! Best wishes to all those before me and best of luck to those who have theirs on the same day and those after!!! Anybody out there had the sleeve and gone home the same day? Mine is with Nicholson Clinic in Dallas and it's a day surgery. Would love to hear experiences of those who had the surgery and went home same day...

I'm currently going through this thing where I feel like I want to constantly chew on something! I'm full & I know I can't eat anything because it will come right back up & I'm not hungry. Have not had this feeling in months! I'm completely full & hydrated. Is this just an old habit wanting to rear its ugly head? You know the one I speak of--mindless eating!! Is this self sabotage? It's driving me nuts & I refuse to cater to this by eating a sugar free Popsicle or something similar because I don't need anything! Fellow banders, is this just me??? If not, what are your best practices?

Hello all! I'm new to the forums and have a few questions. I have been considering going through with the Gastric Sleeve surgery. I currently reside in Florida. I meet all the requirements for surgery. So I called my insurance company (Cigna, I pay for my own individual coverage) and was told that they don't cover it and that no insurance in Florida covers it. After I got off the phone I was devastated as I have tried everything from diets to a personal trainer for the last year and the comes off and then comes back on and wanted this surgery to help change my life. So I started researching and came across this page/forum and saw many women/men were getting their surgery …

Hello I had the Gastric Sleeve surgery exactly 7 weeks ago today. For the first 5 weeks I was on liquid protein shakes diet only with the occasional Apple sauce and sugar free jello. Now that I have introduced solid foods for my lunch and dinner still drinking the shakes for breakfast I have completely stopped losing weight . Then if I go back to liquids only for a day I start to lose again . I am TERRIFIED that I can only lose weight now on liquids since that is what my body is used to. Has anyone experienced this . It does not seem healthy to only drink my meals and people say that it will pass but in two weeks it has not . HELP!!

I am mentally prepared for this life changing surgery I am just emotionally feeling anxious, excited, scared, and everything at once! How did anyone prepare themselves emotionally for this roller coaster?

I have stayed positive, calm and faithful to my Higher Power in the knowledge that these will get me through anything and food won't!!! Of course, losing weight and being in less discomfort and pain has had a massive impact on my life; I have the energy to walk at least 10,000 steps every day, I Zumba, swim, use the gym and am starting to feel ready to start running. So I'm on day 5 of pre-op liquid diet (will be on it for two weeks total), and I'm wondering how do I get enough calories to function. I can only have 5 protein drinks a day plus some broth, sugar free jello, and sugar free Popsicles. I figure that is about 800 or so calories a day. How is that enough to function? Plus they want u to exercise. Right now I have no energy and usually try to take a nap during the day. Am I doing something wrong?

Good morning, This is my story of my life pre-op and post-op. In January of 2013 I weighed in at 397 pounds at 6feet 2inches and I was 26 years old. I had gained more than 160pounds in a 6 year period. I had finished school and got a job that was much less active and had easy access to fast food. Fast food became my best friend. It was quick, easy and cheap. It gave me that feeling of momentary happiness, allowing me to feel happy after eating too much. Skipping ahead to February 2014. I discovered through my family doctor that there is a program offered through my healthcare that offers WLS. Living in Alberta, Canada this surgery is elective and I was covered howe…

Hi, I am scheduled for surgery on 4/10 with a preoperative diet start on Monday, 3/31. My family is not very supportive and I am worried that this change will be too drastic. I have been doing my research and preop appointments since November. I have been overweight my whole life and with 2 kids I feel like this will give me a new and healthy beginning. I feel good about it, I just wish others in my family did. Anyone who is on the other side of the surgery have any words of wisdom?? I want to be a normal weight and feel healthy...on the same note, I don't want my life to be "too different". I don't want to have regrets.

I always dreaded Memorial Day weekend. The weather turned nice, I pulled out my summer clothes, they didn't fit, and I would kick myself for not having "done something about my weight" over the winter. Last year my size 20 capris didn't fit (went out and had to buy size 22s). Today I was at Kohls trying on a pair of size 10 shorts and they fit. Still in an XL in some things and a 12 in most of my clothes, but a 10 fit on my body!! I attended my first meeting for WLS in June last year and had my surgery a few months later. It has been an amazing year. I have lost a little over 100 pounds. I am run/walking my first 5K in a few weeks. Most of my old clothes are gone from m…
