Hi I had my VS oct 2010. Yep. I loved it. Still do. Problem is I lost me way. I feel trapped in a forest of unhealthy foods. I can eat anything in small portions. I know my sleeve is stretched. Last dr visit he x rayed it said some expansion. That was 3 yrs ago. So now I feel like it would be Mount Everest. I started back on protein today. Has some water and my Vits. Started feeling hungry so I ate a small amount and stopped when full. Hoping I can recover over next few days and start the weight loss again. Sad to say when I started this process I was 257. Surgery day I was 247 with hypertension and boarder line type 2. Today I feel sluggish and fat all …

I was sleeved on April 23rd and have lost 45 pounds since surgery. Overall I've lost 70 pounds since I started my pre-op classes and dieting. I never thought it would be possible to lose this much weight, this fast. But it comes at a cost. I had thought I was totally prepared for this journey. That my mindset was in place. But I am still having to relearn my thinking and my actions. There have been few days when I haven't eaten too much. The first week being on the liquid diet was easy to not get a sore stomach. But starting the second week of full liquids it became harder. It's become downright impossible since I started soft foods last Thursday. I have excellent sup…

Hi, My name is Tenisha and I had the vsg on March 5th of this year. I've always been overweight but happy with me nonetheless. I decided to have the weight loss surgery after being diagnosed with diabetes and being placed on two blood pressure medicines! A friend of mine had the surgery a year prior and I saw her success. Going into the surgery I weighed 386lbs and now nearly eight weeks post surgery I am 349lbs. I see the weight is not dropping as fast but I'm trying to stay positive and hopeful more will fall. I'm excited to join this community and I look forward in learning and growing together. I keep telling myself that this process will be a long journey with grea…

Hello, I am 9 days post-op, and my first time posting...I have a Vitamin & Protein question...Does anyone else have problems taking Vitamins? I purchased Journey Bariatric and Opurity vitamins before surgery, both because they were manufactured for peeps like us. However, I am having a hard time getting them down...the Journey vits are six chewable multi and 4 Calcium (gag!) and the Opurity are 1 multi & 4 calcium (better but still a lot). There has got to be something better, HELP?! Also, being only 9 days out I am having a hard time getting 60 grams (surgeon recommendation) of protein...anyone else have this problem as well? I am trying...just need some words…

I've got my surgery date!!! I'm so ready to begin this journey! I am 5'7 and 282 pounds. How many others have started their journey like this and how did your weight drop off? What advice do you have? How much weight lost in first month, six months, year? Thanks for taking time to answer my 20 questions, lol. I know every body is different...but a general idea of what I "could" expect is wonderful.

I was blessed to have people who supported (and paided) for me to get this tool...gastric sleeve in August 2009. I want to say it here and now, do not step away from this forum when you are feeling good and that all is done. Do not let the embarrassment, shame or even despair keep you away AND if you are new to the forum, please be aware it can happen and always, ALWAYS come back. So here is my deal, I have gained 57 lb. back...totally walked away thinking I've got this and then life continues to happen. I would occasionally come back to the forum; however, was embarrassed because there were discussions about putting 5 or even 10 lbs. back on which made me feel that …

2 1/2 weeks post op I make 3 weeks on Thursday.. I attended the mandatory support group session yesterday .. And since the surgeons office is right next door, I got there early to stop by to get weighed. The nurses are always kind and took me back to weighin.. I'm still not able to weigh at home since my scale does not go to the 400's ..(I bought the wrong one and I refuse to take it back since I don't plan on being in the 400's for very long) anyway I was not really anticipating a big loss since my 1lb weigh in and too my surprise I lost 10lbs ????????I was so overjoyed. It was exactly the pick me up that I needed to go into this meeting. The meeting was great and I plan…

My surgeon signed me up for his support group... Attendance is mandatory, May 11. After surgery on the 23rd of April the nurse hands me an envelope ... I'm thinking it was a bill so I didn't open it until the next day... I blame it on the "pain button". It says Your Cordially invited .. Etc. so Its been 16 days since surgery I've been contemplating on attending.. My head says I need to go but I'm scared.. Especially after only losing 1lb this week ( btw, I think it had a lot to do with my menstrual cycle, it's been on hiatus for two months) anyway I don't want to be judged or embarrassed or feel like a bigger failure and I know it sounds crazy... My sane brain is saying "…

I have noticed that many use a butterfly as an avatar on this site. I chose a butterfly because (forgive my overgeneralization) most caterpillars eat and eat for their whole lives until they are ready to go into their chrysalis or cocoon. After their metamorphasis, they come out as a butterfly. I have spent my life eating and eating - eating to deal with my childhood trauma, eating to soothe, eating to Celebrate. Almost a month ago now I decided I have eaten enough, had VSG and went into my chrysalis. I spent the last three weeks since getting home from the hospital re-learning to take care of myself with Water, Vitamins and Protein and journaling to try and heal t…

I was 240 pounds and did the Gastric Sleeve with Dr Quinones in March 2013. Every thing seemed fine, until I felt like my stomach was turning from the inside. That was later on, I asked Melanie Hensen whom works with Quinones and she assured me it was normal and it would pass. More time went by and it got stuck where I had to go to the Emergency room at Ben Taub here in Houston. They took me in for surgery and removed some staples that weren't done correctly and weren't even staples for the Gastric sleeve surgery. So it was an emergency situation and seemed to temporarily fix the problem. I went for plastic surgery January 2014 had tummy tuck, lipo, and fat transfer to …

Hello everyone, This is my first post on here. I'm one year post-op and for the past month I've been dry heaving. It usually hits me in the middle of the night. I thought it would just go away... But it has not. Has anyone experienced this? I had my sleeve done in Mexico so my pcp in the states is helping me with recovery and things. I thought that maybe I was pregnant, but that came back negative. Any advice would be helpful. I also haven't lost any weight since December and my surgery date was 3/21/14. Thank you, Melissa

How's it going pre and post op sleevers I've been on here for a while now lurking reading and getting information when I needed it. From what I have read I am one of the heaviest on this forum (at least from what I've seen ) so I decided to share with everyone so I decided to take this step a long time ago but couldn't afford it, then last year I was blessed with a full time job with insurance that would cover some it so I went to a seminar in Dec. Started had to jump through all the hoops. Sleep study, nutrition visits ect. Finally may comes and everything is done they submit everything may 6 get a call may 7 I'm approved. So tomorrow i go and sign consent forms and I wan…

I talked to my pcp nurse and told her I am determined to have weight loss surgery, so she got the referral for me. The surgery center called today and told me paperwork is in the mail regarding a date and time for my first appointment. I'm also seeking out sleep apnea treatment as they won't do surgery if you have untreated sleep apnea. Our town is 2 hours (one way) north of the weight loss surgery center and 45 min (one way) south of the sleep doc. Easier to go 45 min for the sleep doc then have more 2 hour trips south. I have cut soda from my life. Drink a protein shake for breakfast (usually not hungry so this helps get the engine running and gives me protein)

I can't believe what an emotional roller coaster this past week has been . I am really excited about the thought of taking control back , having better mobility , being healthier living the life I want but I have to be honest and say I am also really quite frightened about the operation . I've been a nightmare I am sure to live with this past few days irrational to say the least and tearful for no apparent reason - is this normal ? I have chosen to only tell a few people about my surgery until it's over as I don't want to feel judged or worse for my family to try and talk me out of having the op. I know it would be solely out of their concern for me whilst I'm under a…

Just had my two month check in with my WL team. 297.5! Its been years since I've been under 300lbs! It feels so good that my hard work is paying off. I weighed 386lbs bf surgery and loss about 40lbs during my 6 month nut class. Then I loss the rest after surgery. February 23, 2015. Surgery Date.

Hi, I'm new to the group and I'm really upset right now. I received the call yesterday from my WLS and I'm being told that my insurance will not approve my surgery because I do have enough proof of my weight loss struggles. Right now my BMI is 36, back in 2013 my BMI was 33, still obese but not obese enough. I am diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. So I'm fat but I haven't been fat long enough. Isn't it important to get this under control before it gets way out of control? I don't understand the insurance factors. How do I go about getting approval? Thank you.

Hello All, My name is Ciara and I am getting sleeved on June 4, 2015. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I plan to start my liquid diet a week early which means I will be starting it this weekend! AHH ???? If you have any suggestions for me about what to buy, what to bring to the hospital that would be great. On my pre-op liquid diet I am allowed to have Protein shakes and one small meal with a cooked vegetable at dinner. The day before only Clear liquids. I am going to try my hardest to get through this phase with prayer..I need this second chance at life. If you are in Ohio feel free to message me! Maybe we can all have a meet up one day. Hi everyone! Thought I should log in an update. I am now 11 months post-op. I've gotten through all the challenging transitioning and healing which takes place for a good nine months or so after surgery. Before/After Stats: (Surgery was performed on June 9th, 2014) Height: 5'6 Before Weight: 210 lbs (highest weight was 240) Current Weight: 127 Before BMI: 34 Current BMI: 20 Surgery Day Pant Size: 16 Current Pant Size: 2 or 0 Things went like this: I had my surgery. I followed my doctors orders. I didn't pay attention to stalls. I focused on Protein and hydration. I weighted myself daily but honestly didn't pay too much attention to the number, just check…

Good Morning All.... I had my bypass on May 5th, so tomorrow morning I will be exactly one week out. It has definitely been a week of ups and downs (although mainly ups). Surgery went better and quicker than expected as I also had a large hernia repaired at the same time. I also was released from the hospital a day earlier than I had expected. So things were looking great! Thursday was great but Friday was my day from hell. Everything hurt so bad, and I felt that I could barely move. By Sunday I felt like I was back on the upswing. I was able to walk my block outside without having to stop and catch my breath. I could stand up without feeling like my stomach wa…

Hi everyone! My name is Jenn and I am 21 years old living in Iowa! I am 6'2" tall and currently 317 pounds. My highest weight was 335. Two years ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure at the age of 21. I knew deep down it was weight related but tried to stay positive. I tried dieting and lost 30 pounds but soon my new hypertension meds made me unable to exercise like I was used to and I gained it all back. Last year my sister was talking of getting gastric bypass and actually went through with it! She had surgery in February and has dropped more than 70 pounds since then. I wanted to wait and see how she did before I asked about surgery and seeing how she did…

Hi Everybody! I had my surgery 5 days ago. All in all, recovery is going well. The pain is worst at night - I guess from rolling over in bed? It wakes me up sometimes, but I do fine during the day with just Tylenol. I have had some nausea, although that's improved, and I'm managing the clear/full liquid diet ok. Every once in a while I feel hungry, but then I drink something, or eat yogurt, and realize there is no chance I could eat real food at this point. I've lost 15 lbs. since starting the 2 week pre-op diet; I have about 65 to go. It's a giant leap of faith as I still don't really know what to expect, but, so far so good. Thanks!

Hi All, my name is Youma and I'm 39 y/o and mom of beautiful boys. My starting weigh was 263 and I'm 5"7 tall. I had my gastric sleeve on 05/01/15 and have lost only 18lbs from pre op diet to date. My goal is to loose 85lbs in a year. I have started feeling light but I know for sure that I have a long way to go. I'm one week post but haven't be able to drink 2 8oz protein shake. I was just able to finish one yesterday. I can eat pureed food it got stuck. I have been dring soup and I'll overcook my veggies and meat, smash them with a folk and eat it. Still I feel full just after 2 bites. I can tolerate soup very well and I can drink my water and other liquid fine.

Hi Everyone, I am an avid, habitual dancer (dance anytime that is possible). If I haven't danced in at least a day, I get super jittery. I am not a professional dancer, but I just love the movement. I am scheduled for the surgery on June 2 and I was wondering how soon were patients able to go back to such activity without the stomach pains? Your story does not have to be dance specific, but anything physical that you often do! Thanks for the feedback in advance!

I'm 23 years old and I've lost 23 pounds. I had my gastric sleeve on April 23, 2015 by Dr. Lord in Pensacola Florida. I have three kids from six and under and I'm married. So even though I don't eat they do I still have to cook that's been a challenge for me. I'm still tired I feel like I should have more energy by now. I went to the doctor on Friday because I've had this tingling in my hands and it's been really bothering me they told me it was because I've lost so much weight my nerves are freaking out, I don't like it it hurts to hold it hurts and sends chills all over my body. Friday when I went he cleared me for the stage three diet, so far I've eaten tuna and canned…

Hey there ...so here's my story! I have fought my weight since puberty. Growing up I was always overweight, but not obese. Obesity set in in my early 20's. By 25 I was about 260 lbs and hating the way I looked - so I looked into surgery. I had never had any kind of surgery at all before, so I was really nervous about it! After a lot of research, I decided to get the Lap Band done with Dr. Mark Watson at UTSW. He was great! I got the Band in November 2009 and lost about 60-70 lbs. The lowest I had gotten though was 175, but that was living, breathing, sleeping everything fitness and watching/counting every little thing that went in my mouth. My happy body weight stayed be…

Hi everyone, my names Kerry & I had my bypass 9th feb this year & lost 4 stone 5lb up to now. Can't believe how much my life's changed (food wise) I love food & always have, I do find it hard some days as I still have the cravings for food I should stay away from & if I'm honest I have had a taste of some things I shouldn't. I've found going on the solid stage hard, only this week I've been able to eat more solids, which I'm loving as I've lived on mushy food for so long. Can't wait to hear all your success stories.

Hi all, I'm so happy to have found this forum! It's a relief to find people with the same kind of journey full of trials and tribulations! Since my surgery I have only lost 9lbs. I have been very disappointed with the scale since the surgery. My surgeon has set a weight loss goal of 35lbs when I see him in June. I'm not even close to that! I'm hopeful that I can get some really good advise through these forums to help me get back into weight loss mode. I am logging in myfitnesspal everyday, I'm going to the gym everyday, most days I get at least 70 grams of Protein in, the only thing I do struggle with is my Water. I'm not sure how you all can get it in and not …
