I had my vertical gastric sleeve surgery on 3/31 at about 12:30pm. Everything went well. I was in surgery for a little over an hour. I also had a pretty good-sized hiatus hernia that they repaired. The first time that they got me up to walk and go to the bathroom was at 6pm. We walked about 100 feet, then back to the room. Going to the bathroom to go #1 was extremely difficult the next three or four times I had to go. I had to go, but nothing would come out for a while, and then only very slowly. It took a good 5 minutes to go each time. Once the anesthetic was fully out of my system, it got easier. And with the IV in you, you can expect to go every couple of hours. …

I'm post op, 9 years out from RNY Gastric Bypass surgery. Maintaining pretty well. My husband and I had surgery on the same day. April 26, 2006. I believe our choice to have this surgery saved our lives. We have our daily struggles but nothing like we battled pre surgery. My highest weight was close to 300 lbs. I was 281 lbs the day of surgery. My lowest weight was 140. But I'm happy floating around 160-170. We both had skin removal surgery after a year and a half.

Hi, I am Lisa in Dallas, I had the lapland in 4.2006. I went from 220 down to 140...it took about a year. I then went in for a EGD as I had been vomiting and the dr. removed my fill. I slowly gained the weight back and am now at 230 or so, I can't bear to get on the scale. Thinking of getting it removed and doing the gastric sleeve. Any suggestions?

I came home just yesterday from the hospital. I had RNY on Wednesday 5/29/15. I felt very good when I was discharged and made the three hour trip home without problems. After not sleeping in the hospital I was looking forward to sleeping good in my own bed. It was not to be. I had to get up to use the bathroom and then again to take pain medicine. I was up at 2 for an hour and then back up from 5 to 10 and then back up at 12:30 thinking it was much later in the afternoon. Now it is just 2:30 and I feel like I have been up forever. I have some abdominal pain but the worst pain is in my left shoulder. I am wondering if anyone else has had the same kind of pain and what di…

Hello everyone! I am introducing myself to this forum for the very first time as a member; I have been a lurker for over a year, and I have to say that many of you have been so inspiring and helpful in my decision to get my surgery, and have been a helping hand (without knowing it!) through all of my pre-and-post op trials and tribulations. So, for that I am 100% grateful for your honesty about your stories and how supportive you are to one another. I am not much of a social person in my real life, so joining this forum is just another one of the lifestyle changes I am making to continue on a path to success. My name is Amy, a 28 year old student nurse from CT. I am hap…

I'm on Day 4 of a very strict Fluid only, 3 week diet outlined by my surgeon prior to my sleeve surgery on April 20th. It's been an extremely difficult transition from eating actual food to only taking in 1 cup of skim milk and 5 bottles of Ensure HP per day. I'm allowed to drink Water, plain tea, and non-carbonated, sugar-free drinks like Brisk diet Ice Tea and Crystal Lite flavoured waters, but my mouth misses the texture and taste of real food. So tonight I cheated at dinner. It wasn't by accident or by mistake, I consciously cheated. I felt like I was crawling walls with this pre-op diet. I understand the reasons behind it, but I just felt I needed the cheat. …

What a great journey. I've dropped 84 pounds since late January. My surgery was on March 9th. I've worked my way up to >250 miles per week on my bike. I rode 81 miles last Saturday. Tomorrow will be the first day to ride on the road bike that I rode 6 years ago when I regularly rode 300 miles each week. I still have about 120 lbs to goal, but this feels good! Cloths are interesting. I've taken the last few months off work, which for me is a suit and tie gig. I'm looking at going back to work in June, and now have the issue of buying new suits. We went to dinner at a friends house tonight - most of my cloths just fall off and are useless to me. Thanks to ev…

I had my gastric sleeve done on 4/21. Had a lot of nausea in hospital and when I went home but that is much better now. No pain meds since hospital. But several thing have happened since I got home. I hurt my back and can't do much walking. I feel so depressed and am not getting enough protein and water. Not even worried about weight loss at this point. Just want out of this funk. Am still at my parents house as I'm a little afraid to be by myself. I guess my main concern is am I going to be totally messed up with my protein and water intake and hurt myself physically? And I'm supposed to be walking, walking, walking and I can't even get up because of my back. Also my d…

In December 2009 I received my lap band..it was the best thing i ever did! I lost 170 lbs within a few years time and managed to maintain it up until a year and a half ago...my lap band slipped and i started to gain my weight back. ...Unfortunately I waited over a year to get my lap band revision Which i received late February 2015....since then i have had 4 fills and I have absolutely no restriction..im getting frustrated. .my doctor says be patient. .that he doesn't want to fill it to fast and cause complications. .but with my last lapband i had restriction immediately with no fill at all! Im thinking possible leak but idk!

I'm excited today because I attended my first information meeting about bariatric surgery at Kiaser. It was informative however I must say a lot of the information I knew because I been researching on this every time a question pops up in my mind. I go tomorrow to my body analysis appointment where they take a picture and weight you prior to beginning the 12 week options program. I can't believe this is all about to get in motion. As a requirement I have to loose 10% of body weight prior to surgery (29lbs) I actually think that will be the most weight I ever lost. Well just wanted to share my journey so far.

i WENT to my Primary Care Doctor on Tuesday, and he was disappointed that i gained the seven pounds I lost at the previous appointment. He asked me what I want to do about this weight gain since my weight keeps going up and the health problems keep going up (headaches, sleep apnea, etc) This is not the recent time he has been upset about the weight gain. I always been a big girl, I tried hiding it behind clothes, and of course humor. So now at 41 and to avoid having my life end early like my dad (he died of heart disease at 58)and having knee problems like my mom. At first I was all excited now I am scared about gastric sleeve surgery, (I never had surgery before ) Doe…

Hello everyone. I've joined this site about 2 days ago and its been a blessing to me. I'm very new to the bariatric surgery journey. I had my physical exam a couple of weeks ago and then my PCP referred me to the Bariatric program here at Kiaser in southern California. I've done researching since the referral on what type of surgery l would benefit most from because I was originally gonna do the band and I decided that without knowing little about it. However upon joining this site and reading others experience and did research on my own I feel I would benefit most from the sleeve. I'm pre diabetic and pre high cholesterol with a BMI OF 41 my mother recently died from …

Hi I had gastric bypass surgery on Monday. I had a hernia and some scar tissue from a previous surgery that was corrected. Today is my third day in the hospital and I am so ready to go home. I can actually drink plenty of liquid in regular sips. Not sure if that will change because I can't tell if I'm full or not. I'm burping a lot and feeling the gas move around inside my tummy. So weird. Bye for now.

I had surgery on March 2...I lost 28lbs pre surgery diet and since then I am down a total of 40lbs with one fill (which I didn't feel any change from)...I am eating so healthy, small portions, following all the rules and I can't break the 40lb mark....I'm getting discouraged because i haven't tried so hard to change my life style ever before and I feel like I'm at a standstill like every other diet and then shortly after I give up....what can I do differently?!?

Hello all! My name is Hillary and I am 23. When I started my process I was tired of struggling with my weight. So I went to see what all the surgery was about. I had my surgery 4-24-2012. I am 3 years out and have only lost 80 pounds. I've had a hard time losing the weight bcuz I went back to some old habits. I was an emotional eater. I'm not that anymore but I eat more than I should; snacking a lot! So I need some advise.

How have your legs changed since getting surgery? I have pretty thick legs and I've always hidden them behind pants or capris. I also have thick ankles and it kills me. Believe it or not I run but my legs just aren't shapely. Has anybody gone from thick legs to shapely somewhat athletic legs?

Hello all, I was sleeved 09/30 and the first two days while in the hospital sucked for a better term, for a short time I had serious regret. I decided just like when I had a total thyroidectomy several years ago that it would be the new me not a reflection of what I used to be. Fast forward six days and I am doing great. Moving and feeling better than before the surgery. Walking everyday doing normal things, even bowled league with my doctors approval. Down 14 pounds since surgery and only problem is gas x became my closest friend. In addition the dumping when I drink certain things to fast is an eye opener, self correcting mistake. Thank you to everyone for the informa…

I have been diagmosed Hashimotos since approximately 1999 and on levothyroxine. It has bee a gradual gain of weight over the last 25 years but I went from 115 pounds my senior year in high school to 266 pounds at my first appointment with my surgeon. At the beginning of last year I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had a total Thyroidectomy with ablation. In August I had had enough ! After begging different doctors for help and being given diet pills that made me hypertensive, I did my own research and went to see my doctor for the first time. I asked for Lap Band but after my consultation the doctor recommended gastric sleeve and told me to let him know my decision a…

Hi there! I'm new to this site, but I am looking for some support and am excited to join the community!! I had my lapband surgury in October of 2009 with Dr. John Webber at DMC in Detroit...having no clue what I was getting myself into. I was young and healthy (besides, you know, the morbid obesity) so I went to a seminar, got an appointment with the surgeon, and it was scheduled for 2 weeks later. I lost 20lbs with the pre-op diet and another 25 after....and then I stalled out. I started to get back on the wagon at almost a year post-op, and that's when I found out I was pregnant! The surgeon emptied my band, I gained about 50lbs during my pregnancy and it's been prett…

Hi, I had my bypass surgery yesterday. My HW was 338, SW was 315. Surgery went well, doc even thanked me for helping him do a good surgery by losing weight pre op. There was a 'slight' hernia repair done as well. When I woke in recovery my pain was at 6.6, that's what I recall telling the nurse. Only pain I felt was in my abdomen, and it was a tightness more than pain. Honestly, it felt like I had a tummy tuck. Apparently it's the gas thats giving that feeling, I realize now is bloating. I have walked a few times, it's hard because I don't feel like I have the lung capacity. I'm using my spirometer faithfully though. I'm off the morphine drip and am taking Tylenol 3…

Hi my name is Brent and I had the VSG WLS on 4/21/15. My surgery was done in New Iberia, Louisiana by Dr. Thomas Boreland. He has been fantastic and very helpful along the way. I have struggled with weight since I was a very young age. My heaviest was 305lbs and my surgery weight was 294lbs. My current weight as of 4/28/15 is 286. That's 19lbs between my preop diet and the first week post op. I look forward to meeting other people that have had the VSG and look forward to building a great support group. I just started my thickened liquids yesterday and it was a little tough trying to get the protein shakes. Anyone recommend a good way to get protein in? My new sleeve does…

seems funny now that I think of how scared I was of the actual surgery. Once that mask goes over your face....you wake up and it's over. I woke up with gas pains and nausea. All I can remember saying is "pain, nausea," over and over. I think my issue Was the anaesthesia. I had to throw up so much. But it's a weird throw up. You're just throwing up a foamy blood like thing. So it's not Too bad. Once they gave me the nausea meds I was out and sleeping. I have some soreness today but it's not too crazy. That first shower felt amazing. When I got my bandages changed everything felt nice too. Now I just have to sit and wait and try to get as much sleep as possible. Had my firs…

So was 249 on March 13th 2015, when I had my surgery. Went well, no pain afterwards, had problems with isopure, but switched to Baritric advantage and was fine. End of week 1, was weighed 241! So happy. Continued with things, even got back to swimming laps...slowly 2 times a week, but doing my walking daily. So had an appointment today, 5 weeks out. Weight 239! Wtf! So I lost only 2 lbs after 4 weeks. I have only been on solid foods for a week and even then can't get to 700 calories barely. So frustrated! Getting enough protein and water. I got the surgery to help with my poor metabolism. (I am not an emotional, binge or anything like that eater.) I was…

Goodbye Taco Tuesday.... Hello tighter tummy! (Hopefully!) hello all, my name is Cassandra... I'm 9 days from my gastric sleeve surgery and getting very excited! I have always been the girl with the "pretty face" and always have been big! I think the last time I remember not being the biggest girl in class or the biggest girl on my softball team was probably when I was 8-10 years old! People always referred to me as "curvy" or "thick" growing up but in my head I always knew they were just being nice! I played college softball and have always been very athletic... But as I get older I just have continued to get bigger. I have tried all the yo-yo diets and that's exactly wh…
