I'm not losing any weight and trying so hard!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on March 2...I lost 28lbs pre surgery diet and since then I am down a total of 40lbs with one fill (which I didn't feel any change from)...I am eating so healthy, small portions, following all the rules and I can't break the 40lb mark....I'm getting discouraged because i haven't tried so hard to change my life style ever before and I feel like I'm at a standstill like every other diet and then shortly after I give up....what can I do differently?!?

Sounds like something everybody goes through when they are just starting out....I know I did, and was very frustrated to say the least....felt like it was a waste of time.....

Look at it this way, in the 7 weeks or so since your surgery, you've lost 12 lbs which is about 1 lb and a little more each week. My Dr. said 1-2 lbs per week is a healthy average. So it sounds like you're right on target. Congratulations ! Sounds like you're making good progress, keep it up !!!

Change your mindset. This is not a diet to bring about fast weight loss. It is a new way of eating. 12lbs since surgery may feel slow but it is not! Imagine 12lbs as a pile of sticks of butter! That's a LOT of fat.

As we don't have malabsorption and the band does not physically prevent us eating, we don't lose fast. Oh, a lucky few do! But a loss of between one me two pounds a week is within the expected range.

Previous diets probably failed because you got bored, discouraged etc. so you have to stop thinking of this as a diet. This is your life. eventually, you will eat more than you do now. So the current limitations are short term. But you must not get hung up on numbers- that LEDs you to feel a failure and that makes it so very hard to carry on.

Hey, you're doing great -- going to sail right by that forty pound mark. It is all happening. For me, that's when I really noticed the dramatic change. Pay attention to your pants size and don't worry about the numbers game. Maybe increase your walking and focus on fitness. And pat yourself on the back. You are losing weight. You are doing it! I gave myself a year then after the first year I gave myself another because I still want to lose another chunk. But I'm happy, happy to have the appetite dimmed and to not be on a diet.

I quit weighing on a daily basis..... Weighed once a month or even once every six weeks. Have lost anywhere from 3 pounds to 11 pounds each time I got on the scale. I just couldn't handle seeing the daily fluctuations. It was a hard habit to break, but I'm glad I did. Best wishes on your continued success.

Who cares what the number on the scale says its just a number and over time as long as the motivation is there you will keep losing weight. As they say with love you can't hurry it same with long term weight loss you might have to wait as it does not come easy ops now I'm sounding like a song.

Just continue to do what you are doing. The weight will come off. If you need more fills go for it. Your body will adjust to the weight loss, Lap band is a wonderful tool.

same here...I had a stall around 40lbs...then lost 12 in one month....stalled again at 80..that lasted about 2/3 months and then I lost 8 when I was positive that I had gained...so much so I was afraid to weigh myself...I about passed out when I got on their scales and they told me how much I had lost :) Hang in there - it will pass and the scales will move again. Don't know if you are able to add some exercise to your process yet, if so - start walking...that helped me too....

Don't give up!!!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
