4 years ago I was diagnosed with a brain disorder, Chiari Malformation. Chairi Malformation is when the bottom of your brain descends from the skull and into the spinal canal. If you know anything about the human body, you understand that there isn't any room for the brain in the spinal canal. Needless to say, I had a serious issue on my hand which included symptoms such as terrible headaches, trouble swallowing, muscle fasciculation, numbness in my hands and feet, and a host of other issues. There isn' a cure for the disorder however; brain surgery in some patients is an option to help manage the condition. I had brain surgery in August of 2011. My symptoms improve…

Alot of us fear regain. My revision to the sleeve was Dec 2011, and I can tell you my personal experience matches the statistics, it gets harder to maintain the further out you go. I am maintaining within about 5# of my goal weight, but wishing i was UNDER my goal like I used to be... I am up around 20# from my lowest weight. anyway, I was thinking about all the doubts I had preop. I was suggested to get the sleeve by my sleep apnea doctor who correctly diagnosed that I was on a path to early death with a side trip through disability. I gave him all the arguments why WLS was a bad idea - all the risks etc but the main one being "doesn't everybody always regain?" He …

Hi everyone, I'm excited to be a part of this forum and am thrilled there is such a thing! I'm 53 years old and have been dieting my whole life it seems. I weigh 240lbs and I am 5'5". I have a gastric sleeve surgery scheduled for July 10th and am excited and scared to death at the same time. My doctor is Dr. Keith Boone of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Associates in Fresno, California. I have confidence in him and I hope to goodness my surgery goes as planned (laparoscopic). I look forward to posting and reading all of your posts regarding your journeys.

Soooo just curious for all those on the losers bench - did your feet shrink along with the rest of your body? I have my surgery on Monday ( emotions all over the place lol) and while talking to one of my girlfriends she asked if she could have all of my shoes (I'm a collector ) once I'm at my goal weight. I thought that was weird and asked her why would I give away my shoes - she said that her cousin had lost about 75 pounds and her shoe size went from an 8.5 to a 7. I was totally shocked! Has this happened to anyone else out there??? I knew that my clothes would no longer fit and I was prepared to make monthly donations to the Salvation Army or my local homeless s…

Hi everyone, my name is Jessica and I just had surgery on June 30th. I am 31 and have 4 children. I weighed 244.5 the day of surgery and am wanting to get down to a healthy weight. My father passed away last year at 57 from heart disease related to his diabetes and it scared me to think of my genetic risks. I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy and was able to get rid of it with a 40lb weight loss but haven't been able to lose more. I am hopeful that the surgery will help me live a longer happier life but I also have fears about it. I am hoping to gain a friend on here that has experienced surgery around the same time as me so that I have a supportive buddy to…

So I am hoping today was the last day ever that I had to ask for a seat belt extender in the airplane (with I swear everyone staring). It was like when I asked for it- the needle dragged across the record, the spot light was on me and everything else was dark, and I was speaking through a bullhorn. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating but that's what it felt like. Then everyone's eyes looking at mine like please don't sit next to me. Not drinking anything in plane in case I had to pee and jam into the tiny toilet. Taking up part of my sons seat with him throwing a fit mommy why can't I sit near the window. Couldn't really say because mommy is too fat and needs part of your seat. Ug…

Hi everyone! I'm a 35 year old mom of two wonderful boys (4 & 8). I'm 4 months into my 6 month process now. Hopeful surgery will be first week of October. I've been obese my entire life. (Aside from that 6lb birth weight that is). Currently I'm 286# and struggling mightily with that. My goal weight is 175. Stupid I know, but I want to shop at Gap again!!!! I have PCOS and weight does not come off no matter what, so I'm just praying this works. I'm even nervous writing this post!! In Maryland by the way. Really thankful I found this app to read all your stories!

Like many i to have struggled with my weight all my life. Year after year of fighting, struggling, giving up and going back at it again i met the love of my like and we now have two beautiful children. Now I'm back in the saddle and going strong because i want to be there for them. Right now though i wont deny that there are those days were it doesn't feel very successful. I started at 228 before surgery, 216 the day of the surgery and now I'm at 195. I just feel like i should have had more progress.

Finally. After many months, I started the initial process in February, today is surgery day. I'm scheduled for 11:30 but may be taken earlier. My best friend is also having it today, she's in surgery right now actually. I started at 226 and did South Beach pre op as per my surgeons instructions. I'm down to 204 as of this morning. I know it's not going to be an easy road ahead but I'm willing to do this for my health and to be a more active mom. Accepting any positive energy!

Banded on 9/5/14, down 84 pounds. I went to see my doctor on Monday (who is conservative with fills) he gave me a 1/2 cc, said I'm making excellent progress & go back to see him in TWO months & continue doing everything I've been doing. I now have 4ccs in a 12cc band. Since receiving the last fill, my throat makes crazy gurgling noises. Nothing hurts, it's just the most embarrassing sounds. I assure you I'm not over eating or consuming large bites. This happens even when I drink Water. Is this normal? Any best practices you can share so I may begin using immediately? I've had excellent restriction since my fill at the end May & it's just as well now. I g…

Just got the call from my surgeon's office-I got approved!!! They just received the fax from the insurance company giving approval. I will coordinate with the scheduling office within a week. I just got the butterflies in my stomach. I'm nervous as heck, excited, and terrified all at once. In the back of my mind, I was just waiting for the insurance company to deny, as I have a BMI of 38, but with comorbides(high blood pressure and type-1 diabetes). I am so happy that I get the opportunity to use this wonderful tool that will help my path to becoming healthy!!!!

As much as I looked forward to my sleeve, I am having serious bouts of regret. I had my surgery on June 01, and have lost 38lbs. Within that time I have become dehydrated, was hospitalized for 8-days for pancreatitis. I just got out but I cannot hold hardly anything down besides porridge, fruits and Popsicles. Every meat that I eat, I throw up, even pasta. I ate a little in the hospital but was given medicine to prevent nausea. I have pills for that but it seems like I am still vomiting at least once a day. I tried frozen foods, that didn't work. I bought food from restaurants and that didn't work. I'm regretting this because I am hungry every two hours but cannot seem to…

One year ago at this time I was on my way to the operating room to get my sleeve surgery. I was scared and happy at the same time. I knew that once the surgery was done, my life would change forever. I was ready for the change. It was a rocky first 3 weeks. I got dehydrated in the beginning, and had to sleep sitting up for the first 3 weeks. Once I got beyond the 3 week mark everything got so much better. I started my journey at 248 pounds and as of today I am 152. That is 2 pound below my goal and 6 pounds below my surgeons goal. I have maintained my weight between 152 and 154 since the end of April. I was in a size 24 and am now in a size 8/10 pant and medium shirt.

Hi, I have completed all my pre-requisites for my insurance and now I'm waiting for a surgery date from my insurance, BCBS Fed. I'm a principal's secretary at an elementary school so I have June and July off. When I called to set up my initial visit for WLS, I was told that my surgery would most likely be in July but now I'm being told they're now into August for surgery dates. I hate the thought of missing a week at the beginning of school. Has anyone been able to get back to work in less than a week with the sleeve?

I need help and ideas on what to eat?? Tomorrow will be my second out six nutrition class and I am already going crazy on what to eat.. I received paperwork listed with things I can have , but I can't buy them right now. For the past month I have been eating nothing but chicken, fish, oatmeal, boiled eggs, and light ant fit Greek yogurt. I find myself getting bored eating the same things over and over again. Oh I have had salad and salmon too! I lost 6lbs doing what I am doing and happy with the results, just that if I eat chicken for lunch I don't want it for dinner! My plan allows me to eat 3 out 5 food categories, with no fruit it carbs after lunch or dinner. I just h…

So I am new to this but here we go! I am 23 and extremely over weight. I decided to get wls because I can't get rid of the weight on my own. I have tried every option and nothing I have found has worked. If I keep up the way I am I will be gone before my 40s and that can't happen! My mom is the one who actually planted the idea of wls in my head. She has had the lap band for 9 or so years and has had amazing success. I have gotten a chance to see the good and the ugly of what could happen(and that is not an exaggeration). Because of having the chance to see this I was a bit more scepictical of having the surgery, but I have sat down and spoke to my pcp and the sergon and …

I'm so excited, I get to meet my surgeon for the first time next Friday. I'm so nervous, scared, hoping I'm making the right choice. I backed out of my surgery last year because my surgeon had just lost his wife to cancer and I did not feel comfortable with him working on me after that. Fast forward to now...we are living in a different state, I just turned 35, I am bigger than I have ever been. I am ready to make a change and get healthy!

Hi all! New to the forum. So excited that I'm getting sleeved in a week! Yay!

I'm one month out of surgery today. During my first 2 weeks out, I lost 15lbs. The doctor send I was doing great and that was higher than average. The next week since then I've only lost about 3-4 lbs. The last few days I haven't lost anything, but I've fluctuated up and down a few ounces. I've followed my eating plan, measuring and weighing my ally foos. I'm tracking using My Fitness Pal. I'm back at work so I'm walking 2-3 times per day. What am I doing wrong? Could it be that this is all the weight I'm going to lose? Did I cut up my body for 15 damn pounds? Leading up to the aurgwry I lost 30 lbs eatong 1200 calories and walking. As good as I was feeling a few weeks…

I completed all of my pre-op requirements and insurance approved in 24 hours! Cigna rocks! That was June 24. Today is July 6 and I have diligently followed my pre-op diet and have 2 pounds to go on my pre-op weight loss. The problem is I don't have a surgery date. The anxiety of not having a date is driving me crazy. Not to mention I have diligently followed the pre-op diet and am now only 12 pounds away from not qualifying. I am so scared full liquids for 2 weeks is going to take me too low (OMG, can't lose weight on my own and now am in danger of not getting help because I lost too much, this is a fat girl's hell!). Any advice? My surgeon's office is a 2 1/2 hr…

Hello all! I'm new to this so I thought I would join the forum and seek some sound advice from people who can relate. I am 34yrs old, 5'8", 274lbs. This is the biggest I have been in my entire life. I have always been overweight, but never morbidly obese, which I am now classified as. I am currently dealing hypertension, sleep apnea, and joint pain(knees). Things I had never experienced before. I've tried to lose weight in the past, diet, exercise, with some great success in 2006 with a whopping 83lbs loss. But that was a fluke I believe, because I gained it all back and them some. I have recently gone through all the steps necessary for my insurance company to pay in ful…

A couple of months ago I got really drunk after a competitive gorge at Outback Steakhouse. My girlfriend and I agreed we ought to consider losing weight. We googled weight loss online and came up with WLS in Columbia. Heard the doctors down there won't ask you to quit smoking. We just looked for the cheapest rate and made our appointments. Our doctor (?) suggested a two week liquid diet - the last 3 days - clear liquids only. We did 11 days without cheating, except for adding Butterfinger Candy Bars & Kahlua to our Premier shakes (yummy) & blending cheeseburgers into beef broth for a wonderful infused broth! We were required to only consume clear liquids the 3 day…

Hello, here to introduce myself! I was banded in 2009 and had a very successful few years. Weight loss was quick and first, then slower, but steady. I got within 20lbs of goal. I loved my band! But about 3 years ago, I suddenly developed really severe GERD out of nowhere. Then started vomiting everything. Sometimes even Water. I found myself in the ER more than once. Scary. I've had a million upper GIs but they don't show a slip or any obvious reason for the sudden pain and discomfort. I have had a complete unfill for 2 years, now, but still sometimes have these symptoms (not as severe, but still uncomfortable). I've tried to keep the weight off but I'm slowing g…

Glad I found you. It's nice to be here! I'm having gastric bypass surgery on July 13. I wanted to know how everyone's experience has been going. Lots of helpful information to be found here. My peak weight was 338 in April 2014. I started my 6-month PCP supervised diet in December 2014, when I weighed 326. At the end of the diet in June 2015, I weighed 265, so I've lost around 70 since my peak. I'm halfway through the 2-week liquid diet, and it's as miserable as everyone says it is, so I'm glad that we're all in agreement on that. The first two days were the worst, and I almost quit. I didn't quit, and now the diet sucks less. Still not great, but the Bariatric A…

My surgery was Tuesday. At my sis in law till yesterday morning and home yesterday. I feel really good. Still very tired and am feeling some gas pressure this morning around my chest. I guess that's what it is. Protein shakes, water, hot tea this morning. Lots of water. Crush some of my pills and mix with yogurt. So far my body is tolerating everything really well. I'm definitely not pushing it. Slow and easy. I'm really surprised at how good I feel.

Hi all, I'm just starting out in my gastric bypass journey. I have a series of 4 appointments over the next 3 months before I have surgery. I'm a 30 year old male, 5'9 and 270 lbs, I just made the 40 bmi mark. I've tried every diet and exercise plan in the past but my overeating always does me in. I'm really excited to get thin and healthy, I have a beautiful wife and two little girls I need to stick around for!
