Post op one week--protein problems

Recommended Posts

It's been a week since surgery. I am not getting enough Protein but I'm forcing down the protein I do get. Give me ideas for phase one and two protein consumption please! I can only intake 3-5 ounces of liquid in at a time.

But I have lost 25 pound total. 13 pre op and 12 so far post op.

When you get to the Puree stage. I cooked chicken and Beans together in order to get more Protein along with the shakes.

I am having very similar problems. I'm supposed to get in 80 grams a day and it's really hard for me to do. I've just ordered the muscle milk pro 50 Protein powder so I can get more Protein in one drink. I'm really sick of Protein drinks though.

You're still really early to worry too much about Protein. At the point you're currently at, you need to concentrate on liquids and calories - Protein is great, but just try to keep your fluids up right now.

Once you hit the puree stage, then you can start packing as much protein in as you can. I can't stand the protein powders (still make me throw up, and I'm just under 7 months out!) but if you can tolerate, get what you can.

Dairy can cause gastric upset/bowel issues, but if you find that you're able to drink milk or eat yogurt, look for high protein versions. I am lucky as I live in an area (Texas) which has HEB grocery, and they have a product called mootopia (love that name) with lower lactaid and twice the protein of regular milk, so it has become my go-to for getting fast protein in a small cup.

I found the flavorless Unjury to be good. I can put that in anything i eat or drink. Problem is when i put in broth it does not completely dissolve so i have Chunks of Protein in my broth. Its 21g a scoop. Out taste wonderful I lemon crystal light. I sometimes will juice oranges and add the protein to it... So far been able to get it down no worries..sorry you having a hard time.

Yes for adding most Protein to hot liquids such as broth or Soup, you need to use a food thermometer and make sure the liquid is under 130 degrees or it will clump and curdle. There are some special protein Soups you can buy that are specially formulated to mix with hot (not boiling but just under boiling is fine) liquid, Those might be a good option for you too.

I used the HealthSmart brand. I thought the ones with Pasta were disgusting but the other ones were good.

Another option for you might be the Unjury chicken soup protein -- it is good, but it is one of those that you have to watch the temperature, if it is too hot it will clump.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
