So this is my first post! My surgery date for gastric bypass is aug 4 and i am extremely nervous. I have been doing the high protein liquid diet for 5 days and its so hard but gets easier by the day. "Take it a day at a time" like they say, right?! I cheated yesterday, and im not quite sure how bad that is. Should i tell my dr? Any suggestions on how to get through this diet for another 8 days? Im so excited for this life changing experience but im also scared as hell. I just keep thinking of everything that could possibly go wrong will with me and my luck!????

I am new to this forum and this is my first post! I had sleeve surgery on April 28, 2015 by Kaiser Permanente in Fremont, CA, so it's been 3 weeks and 4 days today. I was given a weight loss goal of 20 pounds on January 15th in order to receive a surgery date. On that date I weighed 247. I got down to 225 the day of my surgery and today weigh 208 - a loss of 17 pounds since the day of my surgery. I was hoping to have been down by 20 pounds at this 3 week mark, however am still thrilled with a 17 pound loss! My only complaints thus far have been that I have suffered from constipation and have swollen ankles and cold feet. Anyone else experiencing any or all of these sympto…

Greetings all. My name is Julia...I'm 34 years old and I had the sleeve surgery on 7/27/15. It's been emotional for me. You see, my initial consult was scheduled on 9/22/14. My husband of 16 years, Sam, had suddenly passed away the day before from congestive heart failure at the age of 48. As you can imagine, my WLS plans went to hell in a handbasket. I binged on comfort and junk foods as a way to cope and gained 20 pounds on top of where I was. I knew Sam wanted me to get better and he wanted for us to grow old together. I went through a lot of, "What's the point of going on?" feelings and wishing I could just go with him. I finally got past that stage and her…

So I am 6.5 weeks out from surgery. 8.5 weeks ago I weighed 245 and felt stressed out and terrible. 6.5 weeks ago I weighed 228 and the 24 hours after surgery was absolutely terrible Today I feel great. I am doing so well right now and I feel in control of my weight and eating more than I ever have. I did my old weightlifting routine for the first time in over a year today. My doctor told me yesterday I was good to begin again. I am doing so well I lowered my goal weight to 165 lbs because I dont know how I would eat enough to stop losing weight. food volume has been a problem for me since I was in 7th grade and I have gone through periods of extreme fitness and…

I recently changed jobs and my new firm requires a formal photo for the website. My photo shoot is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Even after losing 130 lbs, the thought of sitting for a photo is filling me with dread. It's so hard to wrap your head around the "new you" when old habits are so ingrained. I'm just hoping to get through the shoot with a descent photo and without a major anxiety attack. Wish me luck!

I went to the church to the walking track tonight and my daughter wanted to go, so I said whatever. When we got there she said she had to use the restroom and I went ahead and started walking. I was on Lap 4(16 laps is a mile) and she walked with me but kept telling me to slow down I was walking to fast. She finally gave up on lap 12 and started playing on her iPhone while I finished my three mile walk. That made me feel very good!!! I am 40, current weight 214.4, I have lost 46 lbs to date. I can not Believe that my 13 yo could not hang with me, kinda makes me laugh!!

Hello, I know this is probably a dumb question but how will I know when I'm full? I had my surgery exactly a week today and have basically just been sipping on Protein drinks. Well now I'm ready to start soft foods and don't want to overeat. Will I feel full by having a tight stomach feeling or is it best to just measure out my food? I don't want to stretch my sleeve. Please help.

I had my vsg on Friday last week so I am 6 days post op. I weighed in at 218 this morning. Highest weight was 245 around 30 days ago. 228 day of surgery. I'm clearly getting lighter, but I have just been so tired of the Protein shakes and lethargy. I took only 3 days after my surgery including the weekend. Until today I have been losing a lot of weight and eating under 500 calories. Today I probably ate 1500. I'm feeling very full but I ended up eating some of the Indian food at my office today (only liquid and pureed consistency), and last night had beef broth and Campbell's cheddar cheese Soup. For dinner tonight I had cheddar broccoli soup, and it had bigger ch…

I had my sleeve done on June 15, 2015, my high weight was: 260 before surgery, I currently weight 214.4, I am 5'2" and 40 years old. I meet my husband in high school and was over weight, when we got married I was 232lbs. We both went to the seminar on Jan 8, 2015. He was told his BMI was under the 40 that our insurance required to do the surgery but that I qualified. He was ok but didn't go to any of the appts. For the 4 month required time or my pre-op. Which was weird as he has always gone with me in the past of anything that required surgery. As my four month diet past and my two week pre-op diet past I never thought anything about it. We were changing the thing…

I want to thank everyone on this forum who've helped me mentally prepared for that day, my surgery was at 11 o'clock yesterday and besides a few discomfort I feel fantastic. I'm about to leave the hospital and go home. Before my 2 weeks liquid diet, I was 240 lbs, yesterday I weighed in at 229 lbs before surgery so I'll definitely keep you guys posted on my progress as I go along. Again thank you all for your kindness and support.

Just accomplished one of my major goals. When I began looking at having surgery, one of the things that was on my "bucket list" was to climb a mountain in Colorado. I made a pact with one of my buddies we would do it in 2015. At 305, that was a wish. Post surgery it was possible, and it was hard, and I'm still hurting (did you know you burn nearly 6000 calories when you climb and hike for 9 hours?). We could not make the summit because of the wind, but we got close. So, please share what was once a dream or wish, but now is possible and happening in your life...may it bless and inspire others.

Hello all!! My name is Katie and I have been waiting for insurance approved WLS for what seems like my whole life... I have been overweight and moved to morbidly obese in my teens (I started to binge after my dad died) bow topping the scales at 429lbs at 5'11, and while I don't eat my feelings anymore I do have a problem with food portions, well food in general. I have started my current push for WLS in April of '14 when i found out that I meet their criteria, and finally got the stage 2 approval letter pretty close to my 37th bday (which was the 14th) of this year.... And that makes me super happy (not gonna lie I broke down and cried like 2yr old when I got the …

I am 3 years post op. I was a slow loser. I lost 53lbs pre/post op from Oct 2012 until July 2013. We found out we were expecting a baby in Sept 2013.. My weight loss slowed between July and August of 2013 leading up to pregnancy. I had a difficult pregnancy but gained weight just like I did in my pre-sleeve pregnancy. After my delivery in 2014, I noticed an increase in reflux and my weightloss was nonexistent. I consulted with a new doctor. He ordered a barium swallow. That showed a hiatal hernia and confirmed gerd. Today, I had my follow up endoscopy which confirmed a nice size hiatal hernia and I have an angulated sleeve, meaning the sleeve is like a hook (I was sti…

So I just felt like I needed to acknowledge and celebrate that 1 year ago I made the best decision of my life! I chose to become a happier and healthier version of myself! Throughout my journey I have had ups and downs, looking back now it was completely worth it! For years I struggled going up and down on the scale, starving myself, binging, trying every pill and diet out there, working out and exercising like crazy, only to fall off the wagon and gain it all back along with a few extra pounds! I got to the point (336 lbs). That I knew I couldn't do it alone! And I made the chose to have the sleeve! Today I'm a whole new person and a whole 121lbs lighter!!!!! It's…

For anyone who has missed me on these forums the past month or so, I just wanted to let you know that I am alive and well. Real life has been very hectic for me, thus my not being around as much. I had a major deadline at work that had me working feverishly for several weeks, with no real time to keep up with forums and email. Plus, my sister and her four children moved in with us. The room that used to be my home office is now a bedroom for three boys, so I don't have much opportunity to get on my computer at home anymore either. However, things are getting settled down at work now, so I should have a little more time to check in at least once a day and see how everyone …

Hi! My name is Cindy. I'm a Maryland girl I'm 42, Wife of Dan (21 years) mom to Alex (she's 19) and Wyatt (he's 17). I have been over weight for 23 years and I finally feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am 5'2" (on a good day) and 215 lbs. I feel that my surgery is a shameful topic that no one wants to talk about. As if wanting to get healthy with help is a bad thing. I have a slew of medical issues that makes it hard to lose weight. Not just an excuse I use..I've tried many times. I can't use diet pills because of high blood pressure, so when I came to the conclusion that this is the route I wanted to take I have been met with resistance. …

Today after all the kiddos got picked up. Hello, everyone. I'm brand new here and in need of support from fellow sleevers. I'm five days post-op and starting to think that there is no way I can handle this new lifestyle. Will you indulge me as I just lay all my concerns on you? The fact that I can't freely drink as much Water as I'd like makes me so, so nervous. What if I get dehydrated? Will it take me four hours to drink four cups of water? Also, everyone said I wouldn't be hungry, but I am. This all clear liquid diet is kicking my behind. I know it's mostly mental, but I'm struggling the same. The prospect of another Protein drink, another half cup of broth... I've also become paranoid that I've stretch…

Just wondering if there are others out there who have gone through two bariatric surgeries to attain their goals, what the outcomes and differences have been thus far, and if you've had any complications along the way. In June of 2011 I weighed in at a stealthy 375lbs. at 38 years of age and my parents offered to provide LapBand surgery for myself and my Little Sister, who had the same surgery, same day. After the initial healing period, we began a strict regiment of eating right and working out. We made sure we got our daily intake of protien and worked out 50-80 minutes 5-6 days per week for over a year solid. We both saw great results and lost about 75lbs. Unfortunat…

I have been through a lot with my surgery. I've suffered complications and I haven't been able to eat a meal without pain in almost eight months. It's been an ordeal and its cost me time and money and pain upon pain and my family strife and embarrassment and you name it. But you know what? I would do it all again. Because I LOVE my body and I do feel ever so much better. So if your on the fence just know that even in my shoes, I would do this again. It's given me my life back.

Sleeved on 12/16/14. 348lbs. 5'11". Male. 44 years old. Doctor told me that a realistic expectation for me, if I did well, was loss of 60lbs after 6 months, and 110lbs after one year. I have SHATTERED that. Where I was told that 240 would likely be my final goal weight, I am down 121 lbs after 7 months, and only 3lbs away from my "dream" goal of 225lbs. Here's the deal: I will be at that weight in a week or so, but I look at my body now, and I still see a mess. I feel like if I lost 50 more pounds, I MIGHT be in a comfortable place, but I don't know. Am I struggling with dysmorphia? Something else? I should be THRILLED that I am so far ahead of schedule. Last week…

I started this journey about the middle of 2014. My insurance required that I have a 6 month doctor supervised diet. I was able to go to the dietician and she reported to my PCP. I saw the actual surgeon for the first time in January. I had a attended an informational meeting back before I started the 6 month wait that the doctor spoke at. So I was familiar with him. The staff at the weight loss center was very good and informative. I had my lap band surgery Feb. 20, 2015. I went in on a Friday for the procedure and was home by noon that day. I had very little pain and did not use any pain medication. I did have the referred pain in my Left shoulder that lasted about a we…

I had my sleeve surgery on 7/23. I was nervous of course, but after they put that mask on my face in the OR, I don't remember anything until I woke up. I was in pain , in my abdomen and was in recovery for 6.5 hrs. I couldn't keep my eyes open. They took me to my room and it was a struggle to keep my eyes open even though I wasn't sleeping. They switched me from morphine to diloudid (sp?) and then my pain went down. However your stomach cramps like you haven't eaten in a week and I felt that regardless of pain med. The pain med made me nauseous and I threw up once with no effort. They gave me meds for nausea. It was tough the day of and the day after surgery. Even with na…

I have been "heavy" my entire life, but I started getting morbidly obese about 15 yeas ago after a back injury. I had two back surgeries, first one 8/2007, second one in 11/2009. I also broke my left ankle (for the 5th time) in 10/2010. After a major foot surgery in 3/2011, I decided to go for the sleeve. About a month out from surgery, I got pregnant and abandoned my WLS plans for the time being. I had the baby (best thing ever!!) and got back on track for surgery in October of 2013. I then caught the NORO virus from my kid and spend two days sitting on the toilet and vomiting into the waste basket. That freaked me out so much that I backed off from the surgery. M…

I finally did it !! Thursday 23/07/15 at 5pm, I headed down to surgery, nervous and anxious but the staff were fantastic and kept me laughing by cracking jokes and chatting about holidays etc. I can't thank them enough for that as I had told the anesthetist how nervous I would be in the pre op room and she'd obviously told the team. "Have a couple of deep breaths and", next thing I know, I wake up in recovery. Well I say wake up, I tried hard but was very sleepy so stayed in there a while and couldn't have morphine for 24 hours because of it I felt really dreadful for the first few hours but managed 2 walks and some fluids, a trip to the loo and finally some sleep.…

Hi, I'm a newbie here from the other land Down Under (New Zealand). I had roux en y gastric bypass two years ago and while the lead-up to my surgery wasn't without its hassles, my recovery and life since has been almost boringly easy. Touch wood! I've been overweight nearly all my life: I arrived kicking and screaming into this world weighing a healthy 9 pounds and was pretty much "normal" weight until I hit my early teen years. It was then the weight just piled on, and stayed there. I managed to lose a decent chunk of weight a couple of times through old-fashioned healthy eating and exercise, once in my late teens and then again in my mid-30s. But as we all know, l…

Hello everyone, I had my surgery in March (Gastric Bypass). I was diabetic with thyroid issues like a lot of people in my family. I just turned 37 and before my surgery I was in constant pain. I would come home from work limping and in tears. I was also taking so much insulin I was having chest pains and it still wasn't enough to control my glucose levels. Since surgery my glucose levels are stable without insulin. I come home from work happy and in a lot less pain. There's always a little pain after standing for 10 hours, but it's tolerable. I joined these forums because I have questions, and even though I know a lot of people who have had this procedure I am a very pr…
